Sheree Key

Sheree Reynolds Key, age 45, of Sugar Land and formerly of Wharton, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in Sugar Land following a brief illness. She was born on Feb. 7, 1961, in Wharton, daughter of Carl Nettles Reynolds Jr. and Rowena Maree Smith Reynolds.

Mrs. Key was reared in Wharton but had lived in Sugar Land since 1995. She was a 1979 graduate of Wharton High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and was a State 4A State Doubles Tennis Champion. She attended Tyler Junior College on a tennis scholarship and was a Junior College National Tennis Championship participant.

She transferred to Southwestern University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and received her bachelor of arts in education. She married Gary Key on Feb. 18, 1995, in Wharton.

Mrs. Key worked for Shell Oil Company in Houston as an accounts payable supervisor for the past 19 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wharton and a former member of the Houston Junior League. Mrs. Key was an avid golfer and a member of the Wharton Country Club.

She was a very compassionate person who touched people in a special way. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister who will be greatly missed.

Funeral services 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at First United Methodist Church of Wharton with The Reverend Richard Burnham officiating.

Interment will follow in Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Key and son, Hayde Reynolds Key, both of Sugar Land; parents, Carl and Rowena Reynolds Jr. of Wharton; sister, Julie Reynolds of Wharton; brother, Neil Reynolds and wife, Kathy of Wharton; nieces, Heather and Holli Reynolds, both of Wharton; father-in-law, Curtis Key of San Antonio; mother-in-law, Doris Key of Houston; sister-in-law, Stephanie Key of Houston. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl N. and Ruth Reynolds Sr. and Weldon H. and Madora Smith.

Pallbearers are Randy Strnadel, Daniel Coronado, Ryan Walsh, Brian Pflug, Paul Quinn and Jonathan Nash.

Honorary pallbearers are Ken Freese, Doug Moses, Clem “Buck” Boettcher, Gary Obenhaus, Bruce Quick, Benjamin Bartlett and Ray Massey.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1717 Pioneer, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Melvin Peoples

Funeral services for Melvin Doyle Peoples, 59, of Warrington, were held Monday at Layne Renaissance Chapel. Interment followed in the National Cemetery.

Mr. Peoples died Jan. 20, 2007. He was born Dec. 29, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., to Theopolis and Inez Alexander Peoples.
He attended St. Louis public schools and Florissant Valley College. On June 29, 1969, he married Iris Pamela Houston Peoples. Mr. Peoples was a decorated Vietname War veteran.

Survivors include his children Carmencita Maria and Fletcher Stewart, Melvin Doyle and Terri Peoples Jr., Maurice Antonio and Michelle Peoples, Abdul Lateaf Peoples, Preashion Inez Peoples and Alia Aisha Peoples; siblings, Rev. Theopolis “Theo” and Ann Peoples Jr., General “Bones” and Jeanette Peoples, Barbara “Babs” and Raymond Shields, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Peoples, Ali-Hsan “Arthur” and Khadija, Iesha, Shnhia and Merium Peoples, Kenneth “Khalid” and Sophia Peoples, Undray and Earline Peoples, Carolyn and Prince Fletcher; sister-in-law, Jean Peoples; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert “Ty” Peoples.

Kenneth Whitbey

Kenneth Randell “Randy” Whitbey, age 68 of Boling, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born on Aug. 15, 1938, in Commerce, a son of the late J.L. Whitbey and Francis Donathan Whitbey.

Mr. Whitbey was reared in the Houston area and attended school there. He served his country in the United States Army from November of 1958 until May of 1962, when he received his honorable discharge. On July 25, 1959, he married LeNell “Bobby” Hudson in Houston. Mr. Whitbey worked for Hudson Products as an assistant supervisor for many years.

He enjoyed fishing and coaching Little League Baseball both in Houston and New Gulf.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters; Helen Whitbey and Dorothy Terrell and brothers; Jay, James, Donald Ray, Robert Leon and Billy Whitbey.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, from the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Johnson officiating.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, LeNell “Bobby” Whitbey of Boling, sons; Larry Keith Whitbey and wife Keisha of Sugar Land and Gary Kenneth Whitbey of Beaumont, grandchildren; Dustin, Chad, Sierra, Molly and Garrett, with one great grandchild “on the way,” and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were friends and co-workers at Hudson Products.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Houston Hospice % Hospice Support Inc. PO Box 1417, El Campo, TX 77437.

Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Teddy Zuber

Teddy Zuber, age 72, of Wharton died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. He was born on March 26, 1934, in Yorktown, the son of the late Paul Zuber and Annie Henkes Zuber.

Mr. Zuber was a resident of Wharton since 1953 and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. He married Pauline Matejek on April 18, 1953 in Yorktown.

Mr. Zuber worked as a salesman for Sunbeam Bakery for 34 years before his retirement. He enjoyed raising cattle and dancing. Mr. Zuber was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Zuber and Edwin Zuber.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2007, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Zuber of Wharton; sons, David Zuber of Iago and Jerry Zuber of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Bill Pullin of Cuero and Rose and Walter DeDear of Victoria; two grandchildren , Tommy Mason and wife Shawn and Christi Chumchal; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Phillip Kleas, Wade Zahn, Jeremy DeDear, Jason DeDear, Tim Pullin, Ken Zuber and Carlton West.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Hospice Support Inc., P.O. Box 1417, El Campo, TX 77437.
Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Polly Dalton

Memorial services for Pauline Mae “Polly” Whiddon Dalton, 77, were held Thursday at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Hurley officiating.
Mrs. Dalton died April 2, 2007, at Gulf Coast Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Smiley to the late Albert Hale and Etta Mae Murphree Whiddon.

Her family moved to Wharton in 1932 when she was three years old. She worked at Duke & Ayers and the Rio Theater as a teenager. Mrs. Dalton was a housewife for many years after the married Burlon Levon Parsons Sr. on Sept. 9, 1946.

Later, as a single parent, she worked at various jobs including the Mail Room at Wharton County Junior College and doing private duty nursing. She retired in 2004.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands, Burlon Parsons, T.J. Matthews and Bob Dalton; brothers, Edwin Whiddon and Alvin Walter Whiddon; sister, Yvonne Morrison; son, Edward Lynn Parsons; and daughter, Bonnie Lavonne Krenek.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Burlon and Betsy Parsons of Wharton and Pat and Terri Parsons of Weimar; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Whaley of Bay City, Melanie and Chris Krenek of Hungerford and Angel and Paul Dirba of Midland; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A special thanks is sent to Dr. Schauer and the nurses at Gulf Coast Medical Center who cared for her in her last days.

If desiring, memorials may be made to College Heights Baptist Church, 1515 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488; or a charity of personal choice.

David Fry

Funeral services for David Fry Sr., 80, of Matthews, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at Greater Union Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Mr. Fry died April 4, 2007, at Wharton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Egypt to John and Maggie Lee Fry Sr.

Survivors include son, Franlk Fry Sr. of Wharton; daughters, Vickie Fry of Hungerford, Evelyn Seabolt of Dahlongeria, Ga., and Deborah Axel of Altair; brother, John Fry Jr. of Matthews; sisters, Louisa Coleman of La Marque and Gladys Jones of Sugar Land; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Rachel Ephram
Funeral services for Rachel Allen Ephram, 74, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Saturday, at Holy Trinity Baptist Church, 1400616 South Post Oak Boulevard in Houston. Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery in Boling,.
Mrs. Ephram died May 13, 2002. She was born April 13, 1938, in Boling to Will Allen and Gertrude Henry-Allen.

Rachel leaves to cherish her memories sons and daughter-in-law, William and Veronica Wilkins Jr. and Roy Ephram Jr.; daughter; Shirley Ephram-Neal; sisters, Gertrude Ford, Annie Pegh, Ruth Oliver, Hazel Shanklin, Parline Allen and a host of relatives and friends.

Manuel Pena
Manuel R. Pena Jr., age 72, of Boling, died Sunday evening, May 12, 2002, in a Houston hospital following a sudden illness. He was born on June 27, 1929, in Raymondville, the son of Manuel R. and Hotencia Rodriguez Pena Sr.
Mr. Pena had been a resident of Boling for the past 33 years and was a former resident of Newgulf. He married Rebecca Robles on Sept. 17, 1949, in Wharton.
Mr. Pena worked as an operator for Texasgulf Sulphur for 31 years until his retirement.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling with Father Raymond Jackson officiating.
Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton and military graveside honors were provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton. Mr. Pena was preceded in death by one son, Manuel Pena III in 1981.
Survivors Include: wife; Rebecca Pena of Boling; daughters and spouses, Rebecca and Richard Gonzales of Pasadena, Hortencia Pena and Julian Reyna of Lockhart, Juanita and John Becerra of Boling, Sandra and Celio Chapa of Houston, Cleo Pena and Salvador Solorzano and Maria and Bill York, all of Boling; sisters, Elena Ortiz of Edinburg and Josephina Rodriguez of Lufkin; brothers, Conrad Pena of Minnesota and Lupe Pena of Dallas; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers were Richard Gonzales Jr., Edward Pena Jr., Rudy Becerra, Celio Chapa Jr., Marcos Campos III and Arturo Perez Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his former co-workers at Texasgulf Sulphur and his many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Theodore Rucker
Theodore Pierre “Ted” Rucker, 79, of Louisburg, Kan., died Saturday, May 4, 2002.Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the Drexel United Methodist Church in Drexel, Mo. Burial followed in Rockville Cemetery, Miami County, Kan., with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Mr. Rucker was in the Army during World War II, serving three years in North Africa.
On May 18, 1951, he was married to Dorothy Jean Stowe in Kansas City, Mo. They have made their home in the Drexel, Mo., area since 1953.
He was an active member of the Drexel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rucker is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. Rucker of the home; a son, Navy Commander Terry Rucker of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Lee Lemson of Wharton, Diane and Lane Cornelius of Raytown, Mo., and Sharon and Bill Oakes residing in Germany; five grandchildren; two half-brothers, David and Joe Rucker of West Virginia; and a half-sister, Barbara Gillespie of Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Drexel United Methodist Church in Drexel, Mo.

Ynez Barron
Graveside services and burial for Maria Ynez Barron, 71, of Lane City, were held Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. David Chavez officiating.
Mrs. Barron died July 1, 2002 at Gulf Coast Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Kennedy, the daughter of the late Eduardo and Natalie Silgero Munoz.
She had been a lifelong resident of Lane City and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene United Methodist Church in Bay City.
She married Sipriano Barron on July 2, 1949, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1990. Mrs. Barron worked as a cook prior to her retirement.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Juan Chavez of College Station; Martha Garza of Boling, Dale and Damus Garza of Hungerford and Theresa Ann Barron of Wharton; sons, Raymond Barron of Houston, Israel Barron of Wharton, Sipriano Barron Jr. and Robert Barron, both of Lane City; sister, Eulalia Ontirvios of Houston; brother, Angel Munoz of Chula Vista, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
