Bernadett Adamek

Bernadett F. Vacek-Adamek, 64, joined the Lord on the 16th of October, 2006, in East Bernard while at her residence. Her younger years, including her school years, were spent in New Taiton.

She wed Innocence F. Vacek in 1961 and moved to East Bernard, where they chose to call home. Members of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, parents of two children, Bernadett and Innocence were married 23 years until his death in 1986.

She then wed Marvin E. Adamek in 1993. They too chose to call East Bernard home, as well as being members of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Mrs. Adamek was a very active dedicated volunteer in her church and within her community. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the ladies American Legion Auxiliary.
She had a long career of being an accounting clerk, retiring from Lamar Consolidated ISD earlier this year.

Mrs. Adamek was also very dedicated to her family and believed in close family values. She played very active rolls in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Her passion was dancing. She has left many memories for her husband, children, grandchildren, relatives and friends when it comes to her desire to dance.

Preceding Mrs. Adamek in death is her first husband, Innocence F. Vacek; her father, Felix Hermis; her two brothers, Johnny and Jerome Hermis; and her sister, Mary Ann Hermis.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin E. Adamek; her mother, Albina Hermis; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph F. Sr. and Linda Vacek of East Bernard; and her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Vacek and Joe Petrenella of East Bernard; grandchildren, Jenise and husband Daniel Moszkowicz, Fara Vacek, Danielle Vacek, Joseph Vacek Jr., Joe Luke Petrenella and Brooke Petrenella; step-children, Glenn Adamek of Houston, Christian Adamek of Richmond, Va., Rebecca and husband Greg Carson of Houston, Margaret Adamek of Austin and Catherine Adamek of Fort Worth; step-grandchildren, Ryan Adamek, Nonnie Arriola, Brandy Carson, Jason Carson and Amberlie Carson; step-great-grandchildren, Brianna and Cody Arriola; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mary Hermis; sister and brother-in-law, Emilia and Robert Kolacny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Many thanks and gratitude goes out to the family and friends who have stood besides Mrs. Adamek and her family during her time of illness. Special thanks goes out to the ladies who would pray the rosary with her each morning and many thanks go out to all for the care given her, the meals brought to her home, the house cleaning, the clothes washing and everything else that might not have been noted.

Visitations will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 17 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial services following at noon at St. John’s Catholic Church in New Taiton.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to be made to any cancer funding organization of one’s choice.

William Berry

William “W.C” Berry, age 78, of Cape Carancahua, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, in Victoria. He was born on April 17, 1928, in Success, Ark., son of the late William Cort Berry Sr. and Geraldine McEntire Berry.

Mr. Berry was reared in the Success, Ark., area and attended school there. He was a longtime resident of East Bernard where he worked for Hudson Products as an assistant superintendent. Mr. Berry married Dorothy Ann Harvey and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1981. He later married Velma Jean Venglar on May 29, 1982, in East Bernard, they made their home in Cape Carancahua since 1986. Mr. Berry was a member of Masonic Lodge in Spring. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and woodworking. He also loved the History Channel.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home with The Reverend Duane Mayberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard under the auspices of Masonic Lodge of Spring.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Free, Albert Horelica, Bill Stroud, Robert Taylor, Darrell Zahn and Harold Wilcox.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Berry of Cape Carancahua; daughters, Cherie Overfield and husband, Jack, of Cypress, Candace Morris and husband, Todd, of Corsicana, Anne Graves of Richmond, and Shelley Cardwell and husband, Ronnie, of Angleton; sons, David Berry and wife, Cassie, of Jacksonville, Fla., Matthew Berry and wife, Kelly, of East Bernard, Patrick Kurtz and wife, Pam, of Lake Jackson, Darrell Kurtz and wife, Cindy ,of East Bernard and Andy Kurtz of East Bernard; brother, Thural Berry and wife, Barbara, of California; and step-sister, Helen Cali and husband, Frank, of Missouri; 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

If desiring, memorials may be made to Cape Carancahua Volunteer Fire Department, 4581 State Highway 35, Palacios, TX 77465; or to a charity of personal choice.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Mittie Biggs

Funeral services for Mittie D. Biggs, 90, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Abell Street Church of Christ with Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Biggs died Oct. 15, 2006, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. She was born April 5, 1916, in Campbell County the daughter of the late Medford G. Pugh and Maye Sanders Pugh.

She had been a resident of Wharton County since 1922 and was a 64-year member of Abell Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Biggs graduated from Boling High School in 1934. She married Robert Oscar Biggs on Dec. 17, 1938, in Luling and he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1993. Mrs. Biggs was a Crescent Band Parent, volunteer at SHARE, member of the WCJC Friends, an officer with AARP and member of the 100 Club of Wharton County.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Smithey of Sugar Land; son, Robert Earl Biggs of Missouri City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to a charity of personal choice.

Annie Davis

Memorial services for Annie Ruth Davis, 66, of Wharton, will be held at noon Saturday at Martin Luther King Church of Christ with Bro. Eddie Brinkley officiating.

Mrs. Davis died Oct. 15, 2006, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born May 3, 1940, in Wharton to Irvin and Marie Owens Bryant.
She worked as a counselor/director for Upward Bound at Texas Southern University in Houston.

Survivors include mother, Marie Bryant of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Matthew Titus of Houston; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren; sisters and son-in-law, Ernestine Nelson of Wharton and Linda and Sam Duncan of Houston.

She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Larry.

Jackie McCoy

Funeral services for Jackie Wayne McCoy, 66, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. McCoy died Oct. 18, 2006, in a Houston hospital.

Roma Savage

Funeral services for Roma Banyansco Savage, 95, of Wharton, were held today, Friday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Storey officiating.

Graveside services followed at Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.

Mrs. Savage died Oct. 16, 2006, in Wharton after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Matagorda to the late Pietre Banyansco and Carrie Clay Banyansco.

She had been a resident of Wharton since 2001. Mrs. Savage was reared and lived most of her life in Matagorda before moving to Bay City. She married Norman D. Savage and he preceded her in death in 1968. Mrs. Savage was a homemaker and was Methodist by faith. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include sister, November Jaynes of Wharton; five nieces and two nephews.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Matagorda, TX 77457.

Consuelo Sosa

Following cremation, memorial services for Consuelo Sosa, 56, of Wharton, will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Richard Smith officiating.

Miss Sosa died Oct. 16, 2006, in a Wharton hospital following a sudden illness. She was born on May 23, 1950 in Los Fresnos,the daughter of the late Ricardo Sosa and Teodora Torres Sosa.

She had been a resident of Wharton for the past 17 years and was a member of Abundant Life Church in Wharton.

Survivors include her sisters Dolores Munoz and Maria Izaguirre, both of Wharton; and a brother, Richard Sosa of Wharton.

Martha Bowers
Funeral services for Martha Ann Bowers Pleasant, 63, of Wharton, are pending at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home.

Maxine Davis

Maxine Craddock Davis, beloved wife, mother, and sister passed away on Oct. 11, 2006. Born in Wharton to Robert Craddock Sr. and Vivian Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sandra; and brother, Robert Jr.
The Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Center Union Baptist Church, 139 Ponderosa Rd. in Wharton.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Henry Davis Jr.; son, Jerome Keith; granddaughter Vivian Ashley; and many other dear relatives and friends.

Consuelo Sosa

Chester Holmes

Funeral services for Chester Lee Holmes Sr., 83, of Wharton, will be at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. L.C. Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery.

Mr. Holmes died Dec. 30, 2006, at Triumph Hospital of Southwest Houston. He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Ganado to Randle and Mattie Williams Holmes.

Survivors include wife, Dorothy Palmer Holmes of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Reginald Prawl of Missouri City, Veronica Holmes and Sharon Holmes Patterson, both of Wharton, and Theresa Holmes and husband Bill of Edna; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Holmes of Missouri City, Randle and Janice Holmes of Rosenberg, and Chester Lee and Roberta Holmes of Stafford; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Louella Roecker

Louella Aderlee Roecker, age 91, of Wharton, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Czech Catholic Home for The Aged in Hillje following an extended illness.

She was born on Oct. 27, 1915, in Houston, the daughter of the late Louis Sherrouse and Lydia Wittig Sherrouse.
Mrs. Roecker had been a resident of Wharton since 1950 and was a former resident of Newgulf. She married A. W. McMicken on Dec. 22, 1931, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1949. She later married W. B. Terrell on Aug. 28, 1953, in Kemah and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1974. She married Raymond Roecker on Nov. 6, 1982, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1989.

Besides her three husbands, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jerry Ann Bellows in 1981; a son, Robert Charles McMicken in 1986; and sisters, Arlene Urbanovsky and Mabel Allison; and grandson Robert McMicken Jr. in 2006.
She worked as a lab technician for Dr. L. B. Outlar Sr. and later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Wharton Independent School District until her retirement. Mrs. Roecker was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wharton where she was a former member of the Joybelles Choir and The Word of Life Sunday School Class.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Wharton City Cemetery with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating.

Survivors include a son, A. L. McMicken of Auora, N.C.; 13 Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be A.W. Machann, Thomas E. Machann, Johnny W. Bellows, Rickey McMicken, Albert McMicken Jr. and Michael McMicken.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to First Baptist Church, 507 N. Fulton, Wharton, TX 77488; or Wharton Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 681, Wharton, TX 77488; Czech Catholic Home for the Aged, Rt. 3, Box 40, El Campo, TX 77437.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
