Pete Bennetsen

Funeral services for Pete Bennetsen, 72, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Fisher and Rev. Guy Broadway officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. Bennetsen died Oct. 27, 2003, in Sugar Land. He was born Nov. 10, 1930, in El Campo to Theodore Andrew and Hulda Schunka Bennetsen.

He married Delores Fay Spears on Oct. 16, 1951, in Wharton. Mr. Bennetsen was co-owner of Bennetsen Brothers Road Construction Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he was a self-employed rancher and farmer. Mr. Bennetsen was a lifelong resident of Wharton, a member of Peace Tabernacle Church, former member of Bay Prairie Archery Club and member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Association. He was a former member of The Country Playboys and played in his son’s band The Texas Barn Boys.

Survivors include wife, Delores Bennetsen of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Lynn and Steve Parker of Uvalde; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tina Bennetsen of Wharton; sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Bennetsen Mazel of Wharton and Mary and John West of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, A.J. and Dorothy Bennetsen and Bill and Clara Bennetsen, all of Wharton; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Calhoun

Funeral services for Beatrice Calhoun, 90, formerly of Hungerford, will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at Center Union Baptist Church with Rev. R. Brigham officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Calhoun died October 26, 2003 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born February 6, 1913 in Wharton to Charlie and Lillian Jackson Toliver.

Survivors include sons, Floyd D. Calhoun and Daniel L. Calhoun both of Houston; brother, Leroy Toliver of Texas City; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home in Wharton.

Randolph Cloud

A private family memorial celebration will be held to honor Randolph Cloud, 68, of East Bernard.
Mr. Cloud died Oct. 27, 2003.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Cloud.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joanne Cloud; mother, Hester Cloud; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ned Vardeman, Susan and Bruce Badger; sister, Dorothy Bowles; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Mary Jane Cloud; 5 grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation of Harris County, or American Hospice.

Theresa Duncan

Funeral services for Theresa Joyce Woodard Duncan, 57, of Hungerford, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with E.G. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery.

Mrs. Duncan died Oct. 26, 2003 at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born Feb. 23, 1946, to the late Raymond Woodard and Oscar Mae Stephens.

She was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and worked as a health care supervisor. Mrs. Duncan was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include daughter, Stephanie Brown Williams of North Carolina; son, Craig A. Brown of Hungerford; sisters, Brenda Oliver, Carolyn Giles, Yvonne Johnson, Carrie Allen, Mattie Chadwick, Serita Harper and Eula Landry; brothers, Claudell Sanford, Raymond Woodard Jr. and Cornealious Woodard; and four grandchildren.

Rudolph Tydlacka

Funeral services for Rudolph J. Tydlacka, 86, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary and wake services will be held at 7 p.m. and Thursday and visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. Tydlacka died Oct. 28, 2003, at his residence.

Otis Ford

Funeral services for Otis “Mickey” Ford Sr., 64, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Faith Church. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Matthews Funeral Home.

Mr. Ford died Jan. 16, 2004, at Methodist Hospital Medical Center. He was born May 6, 1939, in Wharton to the late Leroy and Valrie Brown Ford Sr.

He was the owner of Ford’s Paint and Body Shop.

Survivors include wife, Betty J. Moore; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Ricky Ray and Angela and Nelson Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Rose Ann Ford, Kenneth and Rose Marie Ford, Otis and Yolanda Ford Jr., Marous and Kim Ford and Leman and Marlo Ford Sr.; brothers and sisters, Leroy Ford Jr., Angie and Elmo Jones, Alyene Aitch, Mary Jackson and Nellie and Homer Humphrey; 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Doris Grigar

Funeral services for Doris Lee Grigar, 72, of East Bernard, were held Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek and Msg. Emilian Foltyn officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service was held at Sunday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grigar died Jan. 16, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born May 17, 1931, in Rosenberg, the daughter of Fred and Julia Foltyn Klasel.

She graduated from Wharton High School in 1949. Mrs. Grigar married Leroy Grigar on May 6, 1952, in Hungerford. She worked as a nurse and retired from Riceland Regional Mental Health Authority in 1994. Mrs. Grigar was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. In her younger years she was a volleyball player.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy Grigar of East Bernard; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Earl Bonds of East Bernard; sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy Grigar Jr. of East Bernard, William and Jackie Grigar of Houston and Larry and Susan Grigar of East Bernard; brothers, Daniel Klasel of East Bernard and James Klasel of Sweeny; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Arthur Bayliss.

Evelyn Schoelman

Evelyn Marie Schoelman, age 87, of El Campo, died on Jan. 18, 2004, in El Campo. She was born on July 10, 1916 in Taiton to the late Leon Alvin and Ella Marie Janssen Rieger.
She was a 1934 graduate of El Campo High School, a rancher and watermelon farmer. Mrs. Schoelman was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Triska Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Art Weiss officiating. Burial will be at the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Schoenfield and husband Donald of El Campo; son, Dave Schoelman of El Campo; brother, Alvin Rieger of Wharton; grandsons, Kenneth Schoenfield of San Antonio and Ted Schoenfield and wife Cathy of El Campo; great-grandchildren Ty Schoenfield and Sawyer Schoenfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Frank Schoelman.

Pallbearers are Glenn Rieger, Dale Schoelman, Fritz Schoelman, William Jurasek Jr., Paul Rodriguez and Glen Woodruff.

Memorial donations in memory of Evelyn Schoelman may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, El Campo EMS or El Campo Volunteer Fire Department.

Laurance Armour

Laurance Hearne Armour Jr., passed from this life at his home on Feb. 17, 2004. He was the only son of Laurance Hearne Armour and Lacy Withers Armour, born May 20, 1923, in Chicago, Ill.

He was married to Margot Boyd Armour in 1954 and remained her devoted husband until her passing on Feb. 18, 2003.
He is survived by his children, Brooks Armour Diesel and her husband John Henry Diesel of Houston; Laurance Hearne Armour III and his wife Suzanne Hawes Armour of Richmond; and Steven Shelby Armour of Houston. His surviving grandchildren include Lisalex Hope Armour, Andrew Pierce Armour, Emily Caitlin Armour, Elliot Armour Diesel, Johanna Helene Diesel and his step-grandsons Hugh Rust Hawes IV and Christopher Theodore Hawes.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, in Wharton at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Lance Ousley officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are The Honorable James A. Baker III, Jesse Couch, Allen B. Craig III, Henry Hoffstot, John Hughes, W.D. McMillan, Carl N. Reynolds Jr., Max B. Rotholz, Henry M. Oliver Jr., Hempstead Washburne, Woodie E. Townsend and Arnold Terrazas.

Victor Becerra

Victor Becerra, age 49, of Lane City, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in a Houston hospital following a sudden illness. He was born on Oct. 5, 1954, in Galveston, the son of Tomas Becerra Sr. and Catarina Blanco Becerra.

Mr. Becerra had been a lifelong resident of Wharton County and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. He worked as a meter reader and mechanics helper for the City of Wharton for the past 20 years. Mr. Becerra was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Becerra Sr. He married Martina Mata on July 17, 1976, in Wharton. Mr. Becerra attended Boling High School where he played football. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with all the neighborhood children.

A rosary was recited Thursday evening at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Martina Becerra of Lane City; daughters and son-in-law, Heather and Michael Alameda of Wharton and Micaela Becerra of Lane City; son, Philip Becerra of Norfolk, Va.; mother, Catarina Becerra of Boling; sister and brother-in-law, Veronica Becerra and Ruben Ramirez of Lane City; brothers and sister-in-law, Alex Becerra of Wharton and Tomas and Rosa Becerra Jr. of Victoria; and grandchildren, Victoria Alameda, Michael Alameda Jr., Arissa Alameda and BriAnna Alameda.

Pallbearers were Philip Becerra, Alex Becerra, Tomas Becerra Jr., Michael Alameda, Gilbert Blanco, Angel Mata, Eddie Chapa Jr. and Oscar Del Bosque.
Honorary pallbearers were Frankie Becerra, Ruben Becerra, Ruben Ramirez, Roman Mata, Horatio Ovalle, all City of Wharton employees and his many friends and neighbors.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Our Lady of Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488 or to a charity of personal life.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Joe Klimple

Funeral services for Joe Frank Klimple, 75, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Kersten officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.]
Mr. Klimple died Feb. 28, 2004, in a Houston hospital after an extended illness. He was born on Jan. 8, 1929, in Wallis, the son of the late Ernest Fredrick Klimple and Emma Voitle Klimple.
He had been a resident of Wharton since 1949 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton. Mr. Klimple married Sharline Mabel Breithaupt on June 1, 1957, in Wharton. He worked as a self-employed painter until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Sharline Klimple of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie Kay and James Johnston of Needville, Barbara Ann and Hank Jalowy of Wharton and Nancy Ann and John Kendziora of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Joe Wayne and Sherryl Klimple of Katy; sisters, Aline Hutyra of Wharton, Lorraine Orsak of Bay City and Ruby Uherek of Needville; 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 325 N. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488.

Ella Luco

Funeral services for Ella Peikert Luco, 93, of Wharton will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Mrs. Luco died Feb. 29, 2004, in a Wharton nursing home after an extended illness. She was born on Oct. 24, 1910, in the Nedra Community near Egypt, the daughter of the late Joe Peikert and Marie Grewe Peikert.

She was a lifelong resident of Wharton County and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton. Mrs. Luco married Henry Ernest Luco on June 14, 1931, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1975. Two sisters and four brothers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Muriel Hacker of El Campo, Betty and Edward Caka of Shiner and Carolyn and Martin Twardowski of Pleasanton; sons and daughters-in-law, Karl and Betty Luco of Wharton and Lloyd and Jo Ann Luco of Houston; 17 grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family request memorials to: St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, 614 Pecan Street, Wharton, TX 77488; or a charity of personal choice.

Gregory Brown

Funeral services for Gregory Scott Brown, 26, of Gilmer, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Amal Punganoor officiating. Burial will follow in West Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died April 24, 2004, in Upshur County. He was born Aug. 22, 1977, in Wharton to Charles F. and Mary Ann Bedynek Brown.

He lived in Upshur County since 1989, was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Gilmer and was employed as a jeweler at Jim Bartlett Fine Jewelry in Longview.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Mary Ann Brown of Gilmer; grandmother, Iona Brown of Iago; brother, Chris Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
