Frankie Marak

Funeral services for Frankie Marak, 49, of East Bernard, will be held at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Ruppert officiating. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Mr. Marak died April 25, 2004, at his residence. He was born Sept. 4, 1954, in East Bernard to Mildred Marak and the late Frank Marak.

He spent his life working on row crop farms and then worked at a local meat center as a butcher.
Survivors include mother, Mildred Marak; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Billy Broesche; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Marak; four nieces and nephews, Kevin and Keith Broesche and Kenny and Jessica Marak.

Pallbearers are Kevin Broesche, Keith Broesche, Kenny Marak, Joe Talas Jr., Raymond Polak and Mitch Novak.

Honorary pallbearers are Jessica Marak, Daniel Svec and all his friends.

Thomas Martinez Jr.

Thomas Martinez Jr., age 29, of El Campo, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 5, 1974, in El Campo, the son of the late Thomas Martinez Sr. and Linda Castillo Martinez.

Mr. Martinez was a lifelong resident of Wharton prior to moving to El Campo in 2002. He married Linda Rodriguez on Feb. 14, 1992, in Wharton. Mr. Martinez was employed as an installer and repairman for Professional Floors in Louise.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the La Colonia Cemetery in El Campo. A prayer service was held Tuesday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. P.F. Thomas officiating.

Survivor include his wife, Linda Martinez of El Campo; daughters, Leslie Renee Martinez of Angleton and Christina Martinez of El Campo; son, Aaron Thomas Martinez of El Campo; mother, Linda Fira and husband, Eloy of Wharton; step-father, Fred Guzman Sr. of Wharton; sisters, Amanda Guzman of Wharton, Sara Martinez of Wharton, Alexandra Marie Martinez of El Campo and Stephanie Terranzes of Wharton; brothers, Kenneth Ray Martinez of El Campo, Fred Guzman Jr. of Aurora, Mo., Eloy Fira Jr. of Wharton and Anthony Fira of Wharton.

Pallbearers will be Ramon Martinez, Jason Martinez, Eloy Fira, Anthony Fira, Spencer Cordova, Ray Martinez, Jayme Garcia, Bobby Bustamante, David Castillo Jr., Daniel Castillo, Andrew Compian, Geraldo Ballegoes, Felix Gonzales, Ricky Garibaldi, Phillip Mendez and Fred Martinez.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Ailene Mason

Funeral services for Ailene Mae Mason, 86, of Boling, were held Tuesday with Rev. Bobby Charles officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Mason died April 24, 2004, in Wharton. She was born on Sept. 6, 1917, in Leggett, the daughter of the late Albert M. Kerr and Lillie Ethel Galloway Kerr.

She married Jones A. Mason on Sept. 28, 1935, in Boling. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1982. Mrs. Mason was the winner of a beauty contest in 1934. She was a lifelong resident of Boling and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Boling.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Charles A. and Ethel Ann Mason of Breaux Bridge, La., and John A. and Maria Mason of Boling; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Ann and Floyd Stark of Boling, Rachel Elizabeth Fults of Wharton and Ailene Marie and Hollis Robbins of Bay City; sisters, Ethel Vance of Pasadena and Edna Gaston of Livingston; brothers, Albert Kerr of Houston, and Leon Kerr of Leggett; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jones Mason; son, Kelly Mason; sisters, Susie Waltine, Doris Matthews, Velma Pierce, Thelma Kerr and Josephine Kerr; brothers, Dave Kerr, Joe Lynn Kerr and Walter Kerr; and grandson, Jodie Stark.

Carlton Nash

Carlton Ray Nash, 84, of Lake Jackson, and former resident of East Bernard, passed away April 26, 2004, after a brief illness. His body will be donated to Baylor College of Medicine.
Mr. Nash was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Palestine to John and Minnie Nash.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Nash was a longtime employee of Getty Oil Company, where he retired in 1982.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Key; sister and brother-in-law, Wynona and Bill Smith of Palestine; son and daughter-in-law, John and Yvonne Nash of Lake Jackson; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elsie and Kathleen; and brother, Derton.

If desiring, memorials may be sent Lighthouse Church, P.O. Box 696, Lake Jackson, TX 77566, to benefit mission trips.

George Van Cloudt

A memorial service for George Van Cloudt, 31, of Needville, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Mr. Cloudt died July 10, 2004, in Needville. He was born on Nov. 9, 1972, in Richmond to Melvin Ray Cloudt and Sadie Jane Elolf Cloudt.

He was employed with Nan Ya Plastics in Wharton. Mr. Cloudt was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Cloudt.

Survivors include wife, Dawn Hobbs Cloudt of Needville; children, Jeffrey Nance, Angelica Rodriguez and Hayley Rodriguez, all of Needville; father and step-mother, Melvin and Mary Ann Cloudt of Needville; brothers, Ray Alan Cloudt and his wife, Lu Beth, of Needville, James Ray Cloudt and his wife, Maria, of Needville and Carl Ray Cloudt of Needville; and many nieces and nephews.

Roosevelt Johnson

Funeral services for Roosevelt Delano “Rudy” Johnson, 69, of Houston and formerly or Eagle Lake, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at Providence Baptist Church in Eagle Lake with Rev. Coby Shorter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Eagle Lake Cemetery North.

Mr. Johnson died July 14, 2004, in Ben Taub General Hospital. He was born April 12, 1935, in Eagle Lake to Alex and Ernie Paulden Johnson.

Survivors include wife, Cora B. Smith Johnson of Houston; daughters, Linda Johnson, Helen Johnson and Joani Johnson, all of Houston; brothers, Edgar Johnson and Leory Johnson, both of Eagle Lake; sister, Louise Johnson Christal of Eagle Lake; and three grandchildren.

Dorothy Kucera

Funeral services Dorothy Kucera, 69, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kucera died July 16, 2004 following an extended illness.

Barbara Albertson

Barbara Ann Albertson, age 71, of Wharton, and a former longtime resident of Boling, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born on March 18, 1933, in Longview, the daughter of the late John Haygood and Pauline Johnson Haygood.

Mrs. Albertson had been a resident of Boling and Wharton County since 1972 and most recently a resident of Wharton since 1999. She was also a former resident of Muncie, Ind. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beasley. Mrs. Albertson married Clarence Walter Albertson on Dec. 31, 1957, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1999. She was also preceded in death by one brother. Mrs. Albertson was a music teacher with the Boling Independent School District for more than 30 years before her retirement in 1994, teaching music from kindergarten to the fifth grade. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Rebekah Lodge and the Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Beasley with Rev. Gerald W. Ford officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at the Friona Cemetery in Friona.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rebekah and Nathan Hedstrom of Ogden, Utah; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard and Devera Albertson of Duncan, Okla., and Jonathan and Jill Albertson of Evansville, Ind.; and grandchildren Travis, Madison, Aaron, Brennon, Evan, Britta, Erik and Brigitta.

Pallbearers were Bill Haygood, Scott Haygood, Andrew Haygood, Douglas Toomes, Sam Gibson and Roy Wagoner.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 117, Beasley, TX 77417.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home, 515 Boling Highway, Wharton, TX 77488.

Thomas Crowson

Thomas Walton Crowson, age 56, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Houston after a sudden illness. He was born on Oct. 31, 1947, in Houston, the son of Delta Crowson and the late H. Norman Crowson. Mr. Crowson was Christian by faith, and a former member of LifeWay Church in Hungerford.

Mr. Crowson resided in Hungerford periodically from 1987 until the spring of 2004. In 1990, he started WeatherGuard Roofing, which has since been sold, but is still in business in Wharton today. Prior to that, Mr. Crowson was the owner of Houston Clay Products, a successful brick company. He loved football and was forever a Houston Oiler fan.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy with Pastor Dan Bowden officiating. Interment followed in Brookside Cemetery in Houston, alongside his father and grandparents.

Survivors include his mother, Delta Crowson, son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Laci Crowson of Houston; son, Ryan Crowson, of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Travis Garza, of Wharton; sisters, Norma Sparkman and Marty Jeu, both of Houston; grandson, Tanner Crowson, of Houston; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother-in-law, Wayman Jeu.

Pallbearers were Nelson James, David Sparkman, Chris Sparkman, Steve Sparkman, Don Copeland, Don Howard, Bob Minnerich and John Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22039-1131.

Geraldine Moore

Geraldine “Jerry” Moore went peacefully to sleep in the Lord on Sept. 9, 2004, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on Jan. 9, 1923, in Palacios, the daughter of Arthur Edgar and Eleanor Catherine Harrison Louderback.

She married Thomas Griggs “Mac” McCroskey in 1944 in Palacios. She had one son, Michael, before her husband died. In 1949, when Michael was two years old, she met and married Irving Moore Jr., who was the Wharton County Judge at that time. Mr. Moore adopted Michael and he and Jerry also had two daughters, Janice and Laura.

Mrs. Moore was an active volunteer in the community for many years. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader, taught Sunday School for many years at the Methodist Church and worked in the Women’s Auxiliary at the hospital. Mrs. Moore also helped with the HOST Program at Sivells, now the VIP Program, and was involved with the Community Bible Study for many years. She was active in First United Methodist Church and Grace Community Fellowship in later years. Mrs. Moore was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She had a sweet, optimistic spirit, having earned the nickname of “Sunshine” as a youth.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at Grace Community Fellowship Church in Wharton with Pastor Myles Sweeney officiating. Internment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wharton Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 3 to 9 p.m. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Caroline Moore of Boulder, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bryan Beck of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tony Martin of Wharton; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary McIntyre of Walsenburg, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Louderback, formerly of Edna.

The pallbearers will be grandchildren Kelly Moore, Stephanie Smith, Brandon and Justin Beck, and Jess and Brent Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Bishop, Lawrence Brock, Chuck Carlson, Felipe Garcia, Mike Harbaugh, Bobby Kleas, Lee Lemson, Tom Pickett, Johnny Reed, Dan Sweeny, Larry Wadler, Steve Wernecke and John Wilson.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the Grace Community Fellowship Church, 1900 E. Boling Highway, Wharton, TX 77488; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2909 W. Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77025-1532.

Adela Korenek

Funeral services for Adela Korenek, 87, of Garwood, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada with Rev. Joseph Koebel officiating. Burial follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Korenek died Oct. 22, 2004. She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Altair to the late Henry and Sophie Zapalac Pavlu.

She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and KJZT Society.

Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Merta of Louise, Helen Hubenak of Friendswood, Dolores Stavena of Wharton, Beatrice Rachunek of Wharton and Janice Kight of El Campo; sons, John Korenek of Garwood, Richard J. Korenek Jr. of Nada, Dennis Korenek of Nada, James Korenek of El Campo, Lawrence Korenek of Garwood and Wayne Korenek of El Campo; brother, Ben Pavlu of Garwood; 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard John Korenek; sister, Evelyn Drlik; grandson, Ronald Stavena Jr.; and great-grandson, Austin Galloway.

If desiring, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada.

Susie LeFort

Susie LeFort, age 100, of Wharton, died late Friday night, Oct. 22, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. She was born on Sept. 28, 1904, in Wharton the daughter of the late John Norris and Susan Damon Norris.

Mrs. LeFort was married to Arthur Joseph “Frenchy” LeFort and he preceded her in death in 1955. She was also preceded in death by two sisters. Mrs. LeFort worked as a secretary to the superintendent with Wharton Independent School District and also worked at Western Union and Ingram Abstract Company. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wharton and was an avid bridge player.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Debbie Cenko officiating. Burial follows in the Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include three nieces, Elizabeth Brown, Mary Matula and Jane Pendray, all of Wharton. Numerous great nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Pallbearers were Gary Winkenwerder, Johnny Stavinoha, Anthony Tyrone, Willie Bram, Clyde Grier and Andy Kirkland.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 1602 John Knox, Wharton, TX 77488.
