Rasheem McCowan
Funeral services for Rasheem Joseph McCowan, 28 days old, will be held at noon today, Saturday, at New Faith Church in Wharton. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery in Glen Flora.
Rasheem died Sept. 25, 2006, at Galveston University of Texas Medical Branch. He was born Aug. 29, 2006, to Rodney and Joamika Terrell McCowan.
Survivors include his parents and sisters, Camary McCowan and Ronya McCowan, both of El Campo.

R.L. Duncan
Funeral services for R.L. Duncan, 80, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
Friends may call for visitation after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Duncan died Sept. 27, 2006, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Wharton to Aron and Callie Bryant Duncan.
Survivors include brother, George Duncan of Wharton; and sisters, De Lois Gray and Rebecca Greenwood, both of Wharton.
Balbino Garcia
Following cremation, memorial services for Balbino P. Garcia, 67, of Wharton, were held Friday at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Fisher officiating.
Mr. Garcia died Sept. 27, 2006, in a Wharton hospital after a brief illness. He was born on March 31, 1939, in Belize, Central America.
He was a resident of Wharton for the past two years and was a former longtime resident of Houston. He worked as a laborer for Gensco Aircraft for the past 26 years. He married Sylvia Alaniz on March 28, 1989, in Houston. He was Pentecostal by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Garcia of Wharton; step-daughters, Yvette Yearwood of Houston, Donna Davis of Fort Rucker, Ala., and Sandra Contreras of Brownsville; step-son, Marcus Alaniz of Houston; sister, Antonia Robteau of Los Fresnos; and nine grandchildren.
Diana Hunter
Diana Ruth Bruce Hunter died Sept. 28, 2006, and is now face to face with our Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Samuel and Ruth C. Bruce of El Campo.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce Wayne Hunter; daughter, Carrie K. Preite of Australia; step-son, Michael Hunter and wife Tracy of Conroe; step-daughter, Naomi Waymire of North Texas; sister, Gladys Pierson and husband Con of Conroe; sister, Rebecca Klima and husband Mark of Wharton; and brother, Sam Bruce of Austin; many beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We will miss Diana’s kind and loving soul, which was a wonderful blessing to all who had the privilege to know her. A devoted Christian and longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Willis, she loved her Lord and was a living witness for Him on earth.
Diana was born in El Campo, completed high school there and earned her college degree in business from Sam Houston State University. She had a long and distinguished career in the computer technology field as a 25-year employee of Compaq Computer Corporation, retiring in 2002.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at the Chapel of Conroe Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in El Campo with a graveside ceremony .
Please come and celebrate her life and her promotion to her new eternal life provided by her Lord’s unyielding grace and eternal love.
Pall bearers are Con Pierson Jr., Chris Englund, Matt Klima, Robert Hobbs, Scott Martin and Michael Hunter.

Blanche Anderson
Funeral services for Blanche Anderson, 93, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Anderson died Sept. 30, 2006. She was born June 2, 1913, in Eagle Lake to Isaac and Tishia Washington Anderson.
Survivors include sons, Argana Anderson of Houston, Herman and wife Sandra of Anderson of Kingsville, Henry and wife Mittie Anderson of Houston; daughters, Tishia Milner of Ventura, Calif., Lillie and husband Edward Sanford of Wharton, Lillian Anderson of San Antonio, Marie Anderson of Houston, Martha and husband Percy Myles of Houston, Alma Akins of San Antonio and Annie Anderson of San Antonio; 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Shelby Brown
Shelby Ann Brown, beloved wife and mother, daughter and sister, died Sept 19, 2006, in an automobile accident in rural Pennsylvania at the age of 51.
Born in Houston on Feb. 14, 1955, she leaves behind her husband of 13 years, Thomas “Teg” Gregory, her children, Eric Ekeroth and Lisa Ekeroth and husband Danny Mack; and granddaughter, Ariel Mack. Also surviving are her parents, John S. and Trixie Brown, her brother, John M. and wife Jo Brown; her sister, Sydney Brown and husband Mike Shepperd; a large and loving extended family and treasured friends.
Ms. Brown will be interred Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Follett, with a memorial service, with casual dress, to be held on Monday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. at Creekside Christian Fellowship Church, 16628 Highway 36 in Needville.

Carolyn Davenport
Carolyn Sue Hensley Davenport, age 58, of Wharton, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, in Wharton. She was born on Feb. 8, 1948, in El Campo, daughter of the late Phillip Hensley and Valley Glaze Hensley.
Mrs. Davenport was a lifelong resident of Wharton County, having lived in El Campo before moving to Wharton in 1966. Following graduation from El Campo High School, she received her licensed vocational nursing degree from Wharton County Junior College. She married Charles David Davenport on Feb. 14, 2001 in Wharton. Mrs. Davenport worked for Wharton Manor Nursing Home for over 21 years. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching and puzzles of all types. Mrs. Davenport was a member of College Heights Baptist Church in Wharton.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Davenport of Wharton; son, Phillip Garman and wife, Julie, of Wharton; aunt, Myrtle Wenglar; cousin, Barbara Reed of El Campo; grandchildren, Maryssa Alvarado, Blake Garman and Carlie Garman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant sons, Charles David Davenport Jr. and Phillip Wayne Davenport.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with The Reverend Don Hurley officiating. Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery in El Campo.
Serving as pallbearers were Clifford Schulze, Hondo Marin, Coby Sablatura, Gary Mielsch, Buck Wenglar and Jack Poskey.
Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Abbott, Alvin Schulze, Freddie Alvarado, Clyde Brenk, Domingo Montalvo and all members of Wharton EMS and Wharton Fire Dept.

David Fry
Funeral services for David Fry Jr., 53, of Wharton, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Fry died Sept. 27, 2006, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Oct. 19, 1952, in Eagle Lake to David and Odessa Cotton Fry Sr.
Survivors include father, David Fry Sr. of Matthews; brother, Frank Fry Sr. of Wharton; sisters, Debra Axel of Eagle Lake, Evelyn Sebora of Georgia and Vicky Fry of Wharton.

Emanual Halamik
Surrounded by his family, Emanual A. “Manny” Halamik passed away at his home on Sept. 30, 2006, after a blessedly brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 27, 1938, in Mt. Calm and grew up with his family in West.
After working in a variety of jobs and serving in the National Guard, Army, and Army Reserve he moved to Dallas where he enrolled at Mountain View College and earned his associate’s degree in business. In 1970 he met Jacquelyn “Jackie” Kollme-Hobbs, a widow and mother of four children. After a brief courtship, they married and Mr. Halamik became an instant Dad.
In 1966 he was employed by Texaco Inc. from which he retired in 1993 after 27 years of service and began a hay baling business from his property in Wharton.
Mr. Halamik was wonderful in all his family roles: husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew etc. In the families he was a part of, either by relation or by marriage, there are very few members who have not been touched in a positive way. His friends will always remember his boisterous laugh, his outgoing personality and his love of life.
His interests were many and varied. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, traveling, and working on his farm as well as more sedate activities such as high tech gadgetry and TV sports and entertainment. More than anything, however, Mr. Halamik loved spending time with his family and friends.
The Fourth of July family reunions he organized each year brings together several generations from his and Jackie’s families and extended families as well as the family of Jackie’s first husband. Mr. Halamik’s love of family went beyond just good times. He was always there in times of special need or family crisis, regardless of how far he had to travel, to provide support and encouragement and often real solutions to serious problems.
Mr. Halamik was a man of steadfast faith and a committed member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing with the choir. When faced with the diagnosis of cancer, he was hopeful for a good outcome. “But if not,” he said, “then God's will be done.” The knowledge that Mr. Halamik is now at home with the Lord is a great comfort to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lillian Halamik; and his sister, Molly Jane Straten.
He is survived by his wife Jackie and their children and their spouses: John Hobbs, Michael and Shidy Hobbs, Ron and Mary Jane Hobbs, and Keisha and Sterling Hickson; grandchildren (listed by family): Christina and Kimberly Hobbs, Abbey, Jessica and Austin Hobbs, Nicole, Yvonne, Savannah, Michael Jr. and Brianna Hobbs, Lacie, Janique, Dustin, Levi, Kalea and Shayla Hickson: and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Johnny Halamik and wife Patsy; brother-in-law, Al Straten; aunt, Freddie Halamik; and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at the Wharton Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. with Rosary Services to be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Tours, under the direction of Aderhold Funeral Home of West. Interment will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Tours.

Verna Krueger
Verna Dell Krueger, age 73, of Wharton, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at El Campo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on Feb. 5, 1933, in Iowa Colony, the daughter of the late John Wesley Williams and Alma Gumelt Williams.
Mrs. Krueger has been a resident of Wharton since 1951. She married Kermit Krueger on Sept. 11, 1949, in New Ulm, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1995. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Johnnie May Plotnick, Leona Oberhoff; a brother, James Williams; and brothers-in-law, Ben Oberhoff and Sid Spiller. Mrs. Krueger was a dog breeder and rancher. She was Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Friends may call for visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Susan Krueger of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Arnold Baca of Yoakum; sisters, Norma Spiller of Victoria and Mabel Arth and husband, George, of Alvin; grandchildren, David Russell Krueger, Carl D’Wayne Rice and wife, Traci, Kimberly Gayle Krueger and Christina Louise Krueger and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Arnold Baca, Rusty Krueger, D’Wayne Rice, Larry Kalina, Jeffery Ford, R. Wayne Spiller and Anthony Ford.
