Joseph Ferguson
Funeral services for Joseph Pugh “Joe/ J.P.” Ferguson, 82, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mack Mathis and Rev. Richard Devost officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with military graveside honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.
Mr. Ferguson died June 13, 2004, in a Wharton hospital after an extended illness. He was born May 25, 1922, in McGregor, the son of the late Lloyd Emmitt Ferguson and Violet Virginia Grabner Ferguson.
He had been a resident of Wharton for the past 45 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton. Mr. Ferguson married Jeanette Wolaver June 6, 1953, in Harleton. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 107th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Feruson was awarded three battle Stars for the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of the Rhine River and the Central European Theater. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton and The Life Study Fellowship Bible Study. Mr. Ferguson was an insurance salesman with Southwestern General Life Insurance Company for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1986. He graduated from Milano High School and then attended Southwest Texas State University.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette W. Ferguson of Wharton; sons, George Ferguson and Dwight Ferguson, both of Wharton; sister, Jeannie Sims of Gatesville.

Daniel Herzik
Funeral services for Daniel A. Herzik, 57, of Rosenberg, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Rev. Dan Warden officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Mr. Herzik died June 13, 2004, in Rosenberg. He was born April 23, 1947, in Richmond to the late Ivan and Lorraine A. Pustejovsky Herzik.
Survivors include sons, Nolan Herzik and Jason Herzik, both of Rosenberg; daughter, Kristin Herzik of Rosenberg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Graham of Hungerford, Mary Ann Herzik of Houston; Debbie and Wesley Sopchak of Richmond and Brenda and Daryl Schmidt of Rosenberg; brothers, Darrell Herzik and Ivan Herzik Jr., both of Rosenberg; and many nieces and nephews.

Cecilia Kucera
Cecilia Brenk Kucera, age 86 of Boling, passed away Monday, June 14, 2004, in Bay City. She was born on April 12, 1918, in Woodburn, Ore., the daughter of the late Frank Brenk Sr. and Mary Catheryn Duyka Brenk.
Mrs. Kucera was a 57-year resident of the Boling area and a former resident of the Jones Creek area and Wharton. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling. Mrs. Kucera married Vit August Kucera on Nov. 7, 1938, in Wharton. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1982. Mrs. Kucera was a homemaker, who enjoyed making kolaches and growing flowers and sweet peas in her garden.
Funeral mass services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Ewv. Joe Vrana officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Wharton Funeral Home. Friends may call for visitation from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 16, at Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include her sons, David P. Kucera and wife, Suzanne, of Pledger, Ronnie Kucera and wife, Sherry, of Boling and Jerry Kucera and wife, Stephanie, of Wharton; sister, Rose Cervenka of Rosenberg; brothers, Victor Brenk of Glen Flora and Theodore Brenk of Rosenberg. Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Frances Baca, Agnes Socha, Marie Boyd and Josephine Pavlovsky; and by brothers, Frank, Tony, Fred and Bennie Brenk.

Dorothy Martin
Funeral services for Dorothy York Martin, 75, of El Campo, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at First Baptist Church in El Campo. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation began at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo.
Mrs. Martin died June 13, 2004. She was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Louise to the late Walter Lorenzo and Glenn Ella Appling Roome.
She was a homemaker and first married Robert Charles York, who preceded her in death, and later married Weldon Martin. Mrs. Martin was a past member of the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include husband, Weldon Martin of El Campo; daughters, Sandra Moore of Bryan, Brenda Biesel of Eagle Lake, Glenda Legler of Wharton and Melinda Labay of El Campo; step-daughter, Linda Alderson of Louise; sons, Robert York of El Campo, Bill York of Boling, Timothy Brion York of El Campo and Walter William York II of El Campo; sister, Ruth Ella Yackel of Louise; brother, Walter Cecil Roome of Bartlett; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents and sister, Evelyn Moser.
Pallbearers are Matthew Scott Moore, Robby Biesel, Jay Legler, Brent Labay, Brandon Labay and Brion Labay.

Kenneth McCain
Kenneth Ray McCain Sr., age 65, of East Bernard, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in a Richmond hospital. He was born on June 2, 1939, in East Bernard, the son of the late Willie Lee and Ione Singer McCain.
Mr. McCain married Deloris Jean Taylor on Feb. 5, 1961, in Seguin. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force he returned to East Bernard. Prior to his death he worked as a construction supervisor for Brazos River Construction in Richmond. He was a member of First Baptist Church of East Bernard and a former commissioner of East Bernard Little League. Mr. McCain was an avid drag racer and Dallas Cowboy fan who loved dogs, fishing and playing with his grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at First Baptist Church of East Bernard with Rev. Duane Mayberry officiating. Interment followed in the East Bernard Methodist Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris McCain of East Bernard; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Fate Breedlove Jr. of East Bernard and Michelle Ann and Jeff Gajewsky of East Bernard; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ray McCain Jr. and wife, Karen, of East Bernard; grandchildren, Ashley Breedlove, Justin Breedlove, Scarlett McCain, Haley Gajewsky and Hannah Gajewsky.
Pallbearers were Ronnie McCain, Tim McCain, Robert McCain, Dale McCain, Michael McCain and David Morris.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Stella Chernohorsky
Funeral services for Stella Chernohorsky, 87, of East Bernard, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Donald Ruppert officiating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Birdwell, Bobby Schramme, Wayne Schramme, John Witte, Charlie Chernohorsky and Gerard Hauser.
Mrs. Chernohorsky was born in Wallis to parents William Edward Sulak and Mary Ann Fisklak Sulak. She was reared in the Wallis area and attended school at Guardian Angel School and Wallis School. On Nov. 9, 1935, she married Joe Chernohorsky in East Bernard. Mrs. Chernohorsky was a homemaker all her life and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She died Friday, June 4, 2004, in Wharton.
She is survived by daughters, Annette Birdwell and husband, Jeff, of Richmond and Florence Chernohorsky of East Bernard; daughter-in-law, Rosalie Chernohorsky of East Bernard; sisters, Virginia Hauser of Rosenberg, Mary Venglar of Rosenberg and Delores Synder and husband, Jack, of Needville; brother, Daniel Sulak and wife, Maryie, of Rosenberg; sister-in-law, Libby Sulak of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Bobby Schramme and wife, Luanna, Wayne Schramme and wife, Felita, Sarah Chernohorsky and Charlie Chernohorsky; great-grandchildren, Meghann, Mallory, Hunter and Brandi. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Sulak; husband, Joe Chernohorsky; son, Daniel Chernohorsky; son-in-law, Bobbie Schramme; brothers, Leonard and Bill Sulak; and brothers-in-law, Henry Hauser and Frank Venglar.

Marion Harris
Funeral services for Rev. Marion Lloyd Harris Sr., 69, of Missouri City and formerly of Wharton, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. C.L. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Harris died June 8, 2004, at his residence. He was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Wharton to Commodore and Eva Sanford Harris Sr.
Survivors include wife, Carolyn Johnson Harris of Missouri City; sons, Marion Lloyd Harris Jr. and John C. Harris, both of Missouri City; daughters, Lauren Harris of Missouri City, Chanda Crockett of Houston and Sybil Tipton of Robstown; brothers, Lester Harris of Trenton, N.J., Earl Harris of Augusta, Ga., and Larry Harris of Sumter, S.C.; sisters, Laura Mae Washington of El Campo and Gwendolyn McAfee of Houston; and two grandchildren.

Ola Armstrong
Ola Armstrong, age 92, of Boling, died Sunday June 6, 2004, in Wharton. She was born on March 27, 1912, in Flynn, the daughter of the late John Gordon Byrd and Mary Elizabeth Mosley Byrd.
Mrs. Armstrong married Claude Earl “Red” Armstrong on March 29, 1940, in Flynn. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2002. She had been a resident of Boling since 1961 and was Baptist by faith.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Holman officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Doris Lena and Henry Twardowski of Wharton, Edith Jean Britton of Wharton and Artie Faye Keller of Boling; sister, Artie Biddle of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Anthony Twardowski, Kevin Fojtik, Gary Fojtik, Teddy Wooldridge Jr., Tyler Rooker, Donnie Middleton and Arron Wooldridge.

Green Duncan
Green Cameron Duncan died peacefully in the presence of family on June 4, 2004. He was born in Dallas on March 5, 1913, the son of Francis Bowie Duncan (d. 1982) and May Shelmire Duncan (d. 1971), and reared in Egypt.
Mr. Duncan attended the New Mexico military Institute, and the Asheville School in Asheville, N.C. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1935. He began his career in agriculture working as a cotton broker in Argentina for the Anderson Clayton Co. Upon his return from Argentina in 1936, he married Genevieve Lykes of Houston and moved to the Soledad Ranch in Freer,, where he was ranch manager and vice-president of Lykes Bros. Inc., a Tampa, Fla., based firm. He was in charge of Lykes’ Texas ranches and feedlot operations for 59 years, until his retirement in 1995. In 1952, the family moved to San Antonio, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
He served as chairman of the board of directors of the Brush Country Bank of Freer, as a member of the Board of Directors of the University National Bank of San Antonio, and as a Board member of Hill & Hill Truck Lines of Houston. He also served as a member of the board of directors and vice-president of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Mr. Duncan was a member of the board of trustees of Saint Mary’s Hall, and a member of the Associates of Trinity University. He served as a Trustee of the Raymond Dickson Foundation. Mr. Duncan was a member of San Antonio Country Club and of Christ Episcopal Church. From his youth he was a dedicated outdoorsman, and traveled widely to hunt and fish with his friends and family, especially on the Gulf Coast. He was known for his congenial nature and for his many close friendships. Mr. Duncan was a member of the Wednesday Luncheon Club. He will be remembered, by family members, friends and business associates, as a kind person with true human warmth and generosity. Mr. Duncan was a strong and loving role model for his children.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Genevieve Lykes Duncan; by four children, F. Bowie Duncan II and his wife, Helen Boardman Duncan of Redding, Conn., G. Cameron Duncan Jr. and his wife, Susan Mithun Duncan of Washington, D.C., May Shelmire Duncan and her husband, Wendell Doty of Carbondale, Colo., and Genevieve Lykes Duncan and her husband, Keith D. Snodgrass of Austin; seven grandchildren, James McKay Duncan, Sterrett Gittings Duncan, Eleanor Marguerite Duncan, Robert Bowie Duncan, Lucia Bowie Duncan, Susanna Jacqueline Duncan, and Lily Duncan Snodgrass; one great-grandchild, Oliver Cameron Duncan; sister, Mary Louise Duncan Dobson of Egypt; and numerous nieces and nephews. His youngest son, James McKay Duncan, predeceased him, as did his sister Olive Duncan Hershey of Houston.
The family extends special thanks to his caregivers, Charlene Daniels, Sylvia Brown, and Roman Deleon, for their loving and professional care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place in San Antonio.
