Deborah Lout

Funeral services for Debordh Lout, 53, of Louise, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Louise with Rev. B.J. Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Louise beginning at 10 a.m.Thursday prior to the services. Burial will follow at Gardenof Memories in El Clampo. Viewing will begin at noon Wednesday at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo.

Mrs. Lout died on Oct. 30, 2004. She was born June 3, 1951, in lubbock, to James H. and Ercyle Waller Henderson.

She was a teacher at Newgulf Elementary School for the Boling Independent School District and a member of the Texas State Teachers Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Louise where she was a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include son, Timothy Ryan Lout of London, England and David Lauren Lout of Louise; daughter, Rebekah LeeAnn Lout of Louise; one granddaughter; mother, Ercyle Waller Henderson of louise; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Henderson of Bay City, Steve and Donna Henderson of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sammie and David Drehr of Victoria, Cind and Greg Schmidt of Hillje and Lori and Bill Burden of Houston. She was preceded in death by her father James Harrol Henderson.

Johnny Aschenbeck

Johnny May Aschenbeck, 91, passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004. She was born in Ellinger, where she spent her childhood. She then lived in Wharton and El Campo with her husband “Gene” Warren Aschenbeck, who preceded her in death by 46 years.

Mrs. Aschenbeck moved to Orange Park, Fla., in 1973. She was a businesswoman and a charter employee of Ivey’s Department Store in Orange Park, a member of Advent Lutheran Church, the Meadowlarks Garden Club and a volunteer at Orange Park Medical Center.

She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Samohyl and Blanche Stern; her brother, Ellwood Meyer; and her children, Gene Aschenbeck of Orange Park, John Chris Aschenbeck of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Amanda Hudson of Starke, Fla. She leaves six grandchildren, Gretchen and Chip Aschenbeck, Lisa Reed, Mo Aschenbeck, Arlan and Aaron Schulze and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Advent Lutheran Church in Orange Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Advent Lutheran Church.

Johnnie Balusek

Funeral services for Johnnie Bates Balusek, 81, of El Campo, were held today, Friday, at Garden Oaks Funeral Home in Houston. Burial followed with full military honors under the auspices of the VFW at the Houston National Cemetery.

Mr. Balusek died Oct. 26, 2004, at Houston’s Methodist Hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1922, in Provident City to Emil and Lena Brownson Balusek.

He was a retired rancher, shrimper, and self-employed building contractor in the Wharton County area. Mr. Balusek was a member of St. Phillip’s Catholic Church, the DAV and the VFW. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded an American Theater Campaign Medal, an EAME Campaign Medal, a Victory Ribbon, three Overseas Service Bars, and a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the D-Day invasion.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Yolande Lefebvre Balusek of El Campo; son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Rosie Balusek of East Bernard; daughter, Marie-France Balusek of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Daniel Ryan of Friendswood; three grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law,
Memorials can be made to Disabled American Veterans, El Campo.

Loretta Byars

Funeral services for Loretta Byars, 67, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Newman Chapel United Methodist Church in Kendleton with Rev. E. Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery.

Mrs. Byars was born June 30, 1937, in Wharton to Louis Luke Jackson and Odessa Bowden.
She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Louis Byars of Kendleton and Willie Byars of Rosenberg; sisters, Lavern Jackson of Sugar Land and Lorraine Jackson of Pomono, Calif.; brothers, Lawrence Jackson of Sugar Land, Lester Jackson of Kendleton and Clarence Jackson of Los Angeles, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Byars.

Ruby Bailey

Funeral services for Ruby Otera Bailey, 93, of Wharton, will b held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Faith Church. Burial will follow in Boones Bend. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. James Methodist Church.

Mrs. Bailey died Oct. 25, 2004, in a local nursing home. She was born April 1, 1911, in Wharton County to Lawyer Gray and Isabella Armstrong.

She worked in domestic care.

Survivors include daughters, Otera Bailey Neblett and Bobbie Scott; son, James Oren Bailey; brothers and sisters, Eugene Gray, Girtha Gray, Naomi Conners and Lydia Hicks; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Andrew Jackson

Funeral services for Andrew Lee Jackson, 55, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. L.C. Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Jackson died Oct. 24, 2004, at his residence. He was born Oct. 1, 1949, in Wharton to John and Irene Haynes Jackson.

Survivors include daughters, Tiffany Ware of Missouri City and Crystal Jackson of Lane City; brother, Bennie Jackson of Wharton; sister, Johnetta Lynn Jackson of Houston; and two grandchildren.

Irene Buss

Irene Ida Sklar Buss, age 85, of Wharton, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton following a courageous battle against cancer. She was born on Oct. 31, 1918, in East Bernard, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Frances Opella Sklar.

Mrs. Buss married Rueben Walter Buss on June 4, 1940, in East Bernard. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1960. She was a longtime employee of Mary’s Dress Shop and Margie & Lee’s prior to retiring in 1982. She had been a resident of Wharton since 1950 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mrs. Buss was also a member of the Holy Family Altar Society and S.P.J.S.T. She was a caring mother whose grandchildren were the love of her life.

A funeral mass was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Wally Rodriguez officiating.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Buss of Bay City; daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis and Marvin Reavis of Round Rock and Sharon Richardson of Bay City; grandchildren, Lynsey Buss, Brandon Reavis, Kate Reavis, Rebecca Richardson and Rachel Richardson. She was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Sklar.

Pallbearers were Marvin Reavis, Brandon Reavis, Larry Buss, Bobby Jones, Edward Opella and Ronnie Ondrias.

If desiring, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488; Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488; or the American Cancer Society, 204 2nd Street, Wharton, TX 77488.

Loretta Byars

Funeral services for Loretta Byars, 67, of Kendleton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newmann Chapel United Methodist Church in Kendleton.

Raymond Quijas

Following cremation, private services for Raymond Quijas, 65, of Wharton, will be held at later date.

Mr. Quijas died Nov. 24, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Wharton, the son of the late Antonio Quijas and Trinidad Castillio Quijas.

He was a former resident of Newgulf and had been a resident of Wharton since 1985. Mr. Quijas graduated from Boling High School. He married Bertha Castaneda on Jan. 9, 1965, in Wharton. Mr. Quijas was a retired guard with the Texas Department of Corrections and was also retired form Texasgulf Sulphur. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Quijas was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include his wife; Bertha Quijas of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Misty Quijas of Wharton and Raymond and Renee Quijas Jr. of Denver, Colo.; mother, Trinidad Quijas of Wharton; sisters, Frances Gonzales of Beeville and Mary Elva Quijas of Boling; brothers, Larry Quijas and Antonio “Rocky” Quijas, both of Wharton, and Abraham “Buddy” Quijas of Tyler; and five grandchildren.

Harrison Stafford

Memorial services for Harrison Stafford, 92, of Edna, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Howard Hertzog officiating.
Mr. Stafford died Nov. 23, 2004. He was born June 18, 1912, in Wharton to the late William Maner and Julia Harrison Stafford.

He was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Stafford was Episcopalian by faith.

Survivors include wife, Lois Naiser Stafford of East Bernard; step-daughter, Elyce Kahn; sons, Harrison Stafford II and Burr Jed Stafford, both of Edna; step-sons, Charles R. Naiser Jr. of Rockport and Stephen D. Naiser of Sandia; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mourine Lee Stafford; step-daughter, Stephanie Sunderman; sister, Nannie B. Manning; and brothers, Gerard Stafford and Maner Stafford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Texas or to a charity of personal choice.

Willard White

Funeral services for Willard White, 84, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. White died Nov. 25, 2004, at his residence following a brief illness.

Erma Taylor

Erma Lee Taylor passed away Nov. 21, 2004, in Kendleton, at the age of 90. She was born in Booth to Frank and Amonia Fisher Simpson.

Mrs. Taylor graduated from Dayton Industrial High School in Dayton, in 1933. She met and married William Taylor Jr., and to this union one son was born. Mrs. Taylor was a faithful member of Newman Chapel United Methodist Church for many years, and attended church regularly until her health failed. She was very active in all church activities and served as president of the choir as well as president of the Woman Mission. Mrs. Taylor was also a member of the Kendleton Floral Club, The Eastern Star and The Court of Calanthe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers. She is survived by William, her beloved husband of 71 years; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Hazel; four grandchildren; Gregory and wife, Eva, William, Robert and Charlexia Taylor McQueen and husband, Willie; two great-grandchildren; Mallary and Vincent Taylor; four sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends to cherish her loving memory. Her physical presence will be greatly missed, but she will remain in our hearts forever.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Newman Chapel United Methodist Church in Kendleton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Gonzales Garza

Funeral services for Gonzales “Gonzalo” Garza, 82, of Boling, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial follows in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was recited Monday evening at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. Garza died Nov. 19, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Edna, the son of the late Joe Garza and Cruz Montes Garza.

He had been a resident of Boling for the past 30 years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling. Mr. Garza married Lydia Rodriguez on Nov. 23, 1946, in Wharton. He worked as a farm laborer for most of his life. Mr. Garza was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Garza Jr. and Rosendo Garza.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Garza of Boling; sisters, Mollie Garza and Amelia Rodriguez, both of Wharton, and Francis Cantero of Venus; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Hilaria Garza

Funeral services for Hilaria Garza, 88, of Hungerford, were held Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was recited Sunday evening at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Garza died Nov. 18, 2004, in an El Campo hospital after an extended illness. She was born June 25, 1916, in Louisiana the daughter of the late Gomezino Garza and Maria Sefuentes Garza.

She had been a resident of Hungerford for the past 20 years and was Catholic by faith. Mrs. Garza was a retired homemaker. She was preceded in death by two sons, Salvador Ferrel and Mack Castillo and two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Salud and Margaret Ferrel of Hungerford and Joe Castillo of El Campo; sisters, Paz Cordero of Wharton, Lidia Gonzales and Elida Gonzales, both of Houston; brothers, Gilbert Garza of Victoria, and Joe Garza of Sweeny; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
