John Wobbe

John Henry Wobbe, age 26, of Wharton, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, in an automobile accident near Wharton. He was born on Jan. 25, 1979, in Wharton, the son of Henry John Wobbe and Cathy Ann Henson Wobbe.

He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in 1997. Mr. Wobbe graduated from Texas Tech University in 2003 with a degree in agricultural education. He was a former Eagle Scout, a member of the Collegiate FFA, the Vocational Ag Teachers Association of Texas and was a former member of the Block and Bridle Club at Texas Tech University. Mr. Wobbe taught agriculture at West Columbia High School for one year and was currently working in construction.

A rosary was recited Tuesday evening, May 24, 2005, at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Ben Smaistrla officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include his mother, Cathy Henson Wobbe of Bay City; his father, Henry John Wobbe of Wharton; sister, Jill Wobbe of Wharton; grandmother, Helen Pyssen of Boling; girlfriend, Amy Husinecky; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Pallbearers will be John Locke, Michael Quinn, Derrick Lutringer, David Barbee, Keith Barbee and Brandon Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are all of his many close friends, co-workers and neighbors.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the John Henry Wobbe Agriculture Education Scholarship Fund, c/o Community State Bank, 1610 N. Alabama Rd., Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Jessie Badgett

Funeral services for Jessie Irene Badgett, 80, of Boling, were held Monday at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Holman and Rev. Don Hurley officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Badgett died July 7, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born on Feb. 21, 1925, in Dewville, the daughter of the late Lacy Brister and Elizabeth Warren Brister.

She had been a resident of Boling since 1983 and was a former resident of Wharton from 1951 until 1983. Mrs. Badgett was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boling and she was also a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 226 in East Bernard. She married James Lee Badgett Jr. on March 17, 1951, in Wharton. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren Brister and Alvin Brister; and two sisters, Bessie Stewart and Eleanor McKinney.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Badgett Jr. of Boling; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Leigh and Kenneth Agee of Thornton, Colo., Donna Badgett of Boling, Lynette Salas of Pledger, Pamela Lynn and William R. Morin and Shirley Denise Badgett, all of Boling; son, James L. “Bubba” Badgett III of Wharton; sisters, Sebrina West of Leesville, Janie Steed of Nixon, Doshia Cadell of Nixon and Nora Lavelett of Seguin; 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to a charity of personal choice.

Norwood Burris

Memorial services for Norwood H. Burris, 77, of Wharton, will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2005, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wharton.

Mr. Burris died Friday, July 8, 2005, at his beloved Matagorda camp. He was married to Barbara Oliver Burris for 55 years. Norwood was born on Oct. 3, 1927, near Santa Anna, the son of the late Dan Dotson and Ada Mason Burris.

He was a resident of Wharton for 35 years and worked in the lumber and building industry, including employment with Alamo, Helms and Woodson Lumber Companies, the City of Wharton as building inspector and as a self-employed general contractor. Mr. Burris was an avid fisherman and loved his boat and camp house in Matagorda. He enjoyed visiting his many friends at Cook’s Camp and the family thanks all of them for their many kindnesses over the years.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burris; sons, Charlie Burris and Roy Burris, both of College Station; daughter, Deanna Feyen and husband Mike Feyen of Wharton; brothers, Douglas Burris, Robert Dan Burris and Vallon Burris; sister, Lucille Holmes. His grandchildren are Mike Burris, Crystal Burris, Kati Burris, Ryan Burris, Matthew Feyen and Christopher Feyen. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Legon Burris and Charlie Burris; and sisters, Mozelle Rood, Lorena Monty and Cleo Traweek.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the American Heart Association, 2626 S. Loop West, Suite 510, Houston, TX 77054; or First United Methodist Church, 1717 Pioneer, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Louise Garner

Funeral services for Louise Kucera Garner, 92, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A Wake service was held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Garner died July 10, 2005, in a Wharton nursing home after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Wallis, the daughter of the late Frank Kucera and Frances Pilcik Kucera.

She had been a resident of Wharton for the past 10 years and was a former resident of Kingsland and Port Neches. Mrs. Garner married John Edward Garner in 1946 in Sealy and he preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and seven brothers. Mrs. Garner was Catholic by faith.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Silas Jacobs

Funeral services for Silas Jacobs, 99, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jacobs died July 12, 2005, in a Wharton hospital.

Linda Patrick

Funeral services for Linda Yvonne Patrick, 51, of Spanish Camp, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Camp Zion-Rising Star United Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Ms. Patrick died July 7, 2005, at her residence. She was born April 1, 1954, in Wharton to Martin and Notie Anderson Johnson.

Survivors include son, Martin Patrick of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Jennifer Patrick of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Willis Johnson of Texas City; sisters, Vester Lott of Spanish Camp, Etta Johnson and Joyce Phillips, both of Texas City, and Patricia Johnson of LaMarque.

Robert Faurie

Following cremation, memorial services for Robert “Sea Bob” Daniel Faurie Jr., 65, of Bay City, will be held at a later date. His ashes will be scattered over the Gulf of Mexico outside of Rockport-Fulton.

Mr. Faurie died June 25, 2005, at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Gonzales to Robert Daniel Faurie Sr. and Barbara Welfel.

He was retired.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie Jean and Raymond Chavez and Samantha and Terrence Allen, all of Bay City, and Elaine and Eric Johnston; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lauri Faurie and Theodore McCown; siblings, Elsie and Pres Word of Lake Hills and Rosemary and George Lewis of Leakey; and six grandchildren.

James Jones

Funeral services for James Oscar Jones, 70, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. A.J. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery in Refugio.

Mr. Jones died June 28, 2005, at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston. He was born July 1, 1934, in Refugio to Eugene and Angelean Anderson Jones.

Survivors include wife, Albertha Graves Jones of Wharton; sons, James Lester Jones of Bay City, Lloyd Guedel Jones, John Morgan Jones and Carl Douglas Jones, all of Wharton; daughters, Rose Mary Jones of Wharton, Beverly Ruth Hollaway of Hungerford, Pamelia Denise Johnson and Lisa Jones, both of El Campo; brothers, Ezekel Jones of Refugio and John Upson of Crosby; sister, Hortense Huff of Rock Port; 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Michael Lesniewski

Michael C. Lesniewski, 56, of El Campo, left us on Monday, June 27, 2005, at Michael DeBakey V.A. Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1948, in a small town in England.

Surviving family members include wife, Ruth Killion Lesniewski of El Campo; step-daughters, Cheryl Gardner and Tonya Schwartz and husband Stacy Schwartz of Bay City; step-grandchildren, Aaron, Rachel, Lauren and Nicole Schwartz, all of Bay City; special adopted child, Daniel Gollinger and granddaughter Haley Gollinger, both of Wharton.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Green’s Funeral Home in Bay City.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Houston National Cemetery.

George Williams

Funeral services for George Albert Williams, 79, of East Bernard, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at Martin Luther King Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Luling.

Mr. Williams died June 27, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Gonzales to James Williams and Rosetta Paramore.

He worked for Holders Pest Control.

Survivors include daughter, Iva Crump-Williams; sons, Anthony Williams, George Williams and Michael Williams; brothers, Thomas Williams of California, Ray Williams of San Antonio, Lester Williams of Katy and Jimmy Williams of Corpus Christi; sisters, Betty Brothers, Dorothy Lockheart and Rena Martin, all of San Antonio; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Glen Boyd

Glen Eyrie Boyd, age 98. of Houston died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at her residence of natural causes. She was born on April 9, 1907, in Orange, the daughter of the late James Glen Faubion and Claire Huston Faubion.

Mrs. Boyd was a former resident of Wharton and had been a resident of Houston for the past 40 years. She grew up in Wharton and enjoyed a lifelong friendship with the Locke, Outlar, Vineyard, Cline and other families. She attended CIA in Denton and then transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where she met Henry D. Stringer. They were married in 1927. In 1928 she was preceded in death by her Great Grandma, Fannie McCamly Newsome. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Huston Faubion. In 1953 she married Lewis Henry “Bill” Boyd and he preceded her in death in 1973. She and Bill lived in Maracaibo, Venezuela, for 10 years and they enjoyed extensive travel.

Mrs. Boyd was an avid bridge player, even as a child. She earned her master’s card and won numerous tournaments and trophies. Mrs. Boyd loved gardening, gourmet cooking and entertaining. She was a leader in the community including serving as the PTA president and was an astute financier. Her grandfather, Robert Bell Huston, gave the original property for St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton. She was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton with Rev. Lance Ousley officiating. Burial followed in the Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Stringer Black and Palmer Black of Blanding, Utah, Camille Stringer Bloom and Donald Bloom Sr. of Houston, Marigene Boyd Hedges and Jerry Hedges of Littleton, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry D. and Bonnie Stringer of San Antonio and John and Joyce Boyd of San Diego, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ruby Lee Gentry of Memphis; grandchildren, Hank Stringer, David Stringer, Paul Stringer, Elizabeth Stringer Smith, Donald Bloom Jr., Jennifer Bloom, Holly Robertson Godfree, Phil Hedges, Karen Hedges, Linda Hedges, Mark Boyd and Kim Boyd Ranocchia; great-grandchildren, Will and Adam Stringer, Kim, Sam and Audrey Stringer, Elizabeth Huston Stringer, Monica Stringer, Lauren Jean and Drew Smith, Chris, Misty and Donnie Hedges and Alex Godfree.

Pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearer was William Cline Sr.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 207 Bob-O-Link, Wharton, TX 77488; or St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056; or a charity of personal choice.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Walter Irving

Funeral services for Walter Irving Jr. of Beasley will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Point Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Irving died June 23, 2005, at Oak Bend Medical Center in Richmond. He was born May 31, 1928, to Walter and Corine Neal Irving Sr. in Kendleton.

He was a construction worker specializing in concrete.

Survivors include very special friend and companiion Dorothy Mae McCullough of Beasley; sons, Wilbon Ray Irving and Ronald Irving, both of Beasley; Ricky McCullough of Rosenberg, Ronale McCullough of Houston and Akeem McCullough of Beasley; daughters, Brenda Charlot, Willene Horace, Jacqueline Daniels and Elaine Atkinson, all of Houston; Ester Davidson of Richmond, Syreeta and Trineshea McCullough of Beasley; brothers, Willie Irving of Arlington, Andrew and Melvin Irving of Compton, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Rockuemore of Houston; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters, Walterene Reed and Carolyn Turner; brothers, Cleveland Irving, Cleveland Neal and James Neal; and two sisters, Hester Ross and Jessie Mae Kimble.

James Jones

Funeral services for James O. Jones, 70, of Wharton, are pending at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones died June 28, 2005, at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston.

Marion Maerz

Marion Maerz, age 83, of Wharton died Friday, June 24, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on Nov. 20, 1921, in Victoria, the daughter of the late Phil Kleas and Myrtle McFarland Kleas.

Mrs. Maerz had been a resident of Wharton for the past 72 years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wharton. She was a graduate of Wharton High School and was the salutatorian in 1939. Mrs. Maerz played the violin for the Wharton High School Orchestra and also played drums for the high school band. She married Frank Lloyd “Jiggs” Maerz on Sept. 20, 1943, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2003.

She was also preceded in death by a step-brother, Phil Kleas Jr. She traveled with her husband for many years while he was stationed with the U.S. Marine Air Corps. Mrs. Maerz enjoyed playing bridge with numerous bridge groups and was a life master bridge player.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Wharton with Rev. Debbie Cenko officiating. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doris Kleas of Wharton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Glenn Kleas, Chad Kleas, Jim Jett, Phillip Kleas, Adam Rachunek and Kenneth Rachunek.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge her sitters, Dora Lands, Ira Donahue and Deborah Donahue for their loving care. They would also like to thank Hospice Support Care of El Campo, especially Joe Hachman and the staff at Hearthstone Assisted Living Center in Wharton.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church, 1602 John Knox, Wharton, TX 77488; or Hospice Support Care, 1102 N. Mechanic, Suite B, El Campo, TX 77437.
