Geraldine Shotwell

Mary Geraldine Prell Shotwell, age 87, of Wharton died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, in a Wharton nursing home following an extended illness. She was born on Jan. 5, 1918, in Wharton the daughter of the late Louis Henry Prell and Josephine Meadows Prell.

Mrs. Shotwell had been a lifelong resident of Wharton County and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wharton. She was a 1936 graduate of Wharton High School. Mrs. Shotwell married Hulan Perry Shotwell on July 15, 1936, in Wharton. She was a former postmaster of the Magnet Post Office, worked for 12 years for the Department of Agriculture, ran the Notions Department for TG&Y and was the former owner of Wharton House of Flowers until her retirement in 1989. Mrs. Shotwell was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a former Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 2, 2005, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Hulan Shotwell Sr. of Wharton; daughter, Terry Shotwell Sullivan of Wharton; son, Hulan Shotwell Jr. of Wharton; grandchildren and husbands, Traci Diane and Bill Eckmann of Lufkin and Lee Ashley and Patrick Dittlinger of Angleton; and great-grandchildren; Kaitlen Eckmann and Bryce Dittlinger.

Pallbearers are Bill Eckmann, Patrick Dittlinger, Darrell Shotwell, Wayne Shotwell, Darell Stewart and John Williams.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the First Baptist Church, 507 N. Fulton, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Maribeth Vineyard

Following cremation, memorial services for Maribeth Vineyard, 74, of Rockport, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Burial will be in the Wharton City Cemetery.

Mrs. Vineyard died Oct. 29, 2005, in Rockport following an extended illness. She was born on April 22, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Gordon Lang and Loubeth King Lang.
She was a 1948 graduate of Wharton High School and was Methodist by faith. Mrs. Vineyard was a longtime resident of Wharton prior to moving to Las Vegas, Nev. While living in Wharton she was a self-employed rancher.

Survivors include her sons, Ronnie Vineyard of Houston, Neal Vineyard of Austin and Ben Vineyard of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William King Vineyard, on May 3, 1982, and by her sister, Louclair Rains.

If desiring, memorials may be made to a charity of personal choice.

Daniel Krenek

Funeral services for Daniel L. Krenek, 73, of Wharton, will be held 10 a.m. today, Saturday, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Rosary services will precede the funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Krenek died Oct. 26, 2005, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 5, 1932, in Hungerford, son of Paul Krenek Sr. and Albina Baca Krenek.

He was reared in Hungerford and was a 1950 graduate of Wharton High School. Mr. Krenek served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Betty Ann Maerz on Sept. 3, 1956, in El Campo. Mr. Krenek had many occupations throughout his life including, working at Dow Chemical Plant, having owned and operated Krenek’s Texaco for seven years and Krenek’s Motor Supply for 15 years. He also worked as a dispatcher for Schlumberger and the City of Wharton. Mr. Krenek was a security guard for Magabar, drove a hot shot for Schlumberger and before his retirement in 1996, he worked as a jailer for Wharton County Sheriffs Office for 13 years. Mr. Krenek was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3262.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Krenek of Wharton; daughters, Janiece Pustejovsky and husband, Jim, of Sinton, Nancy Wasek and husband, Ed Jr., of East Bernard and Cindy Vincek and husband, James, of East Bernard; son, Kenneth Krenek and wife, Anna, of Victoria; sisters, Helen Janik and husband, Frank, and Betty Mueller and husband, Don, both of Wharton; brothers, Robert Krenek and wife, Josephine, of Wharton and Tom Krenek and wife, Yvonne, of East Bernard; sister-in-law, Georgia Krenek of Wharton; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert Krenek, Frank Krenek Sr. and Paul Krenek Jr.

Latoya McMillian

Funeral services for Latoya Danielle McMillian, 25, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at Seven Star Baptist Church with Dr. R.I. Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery.

Ms. McMillian died Oct. 10, 2005, at M.D. Anderson Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born July 10, 1980, in Wharton to Jesse Roy Barnes and Patsy McMillian.

She worked as a plastic plant assembler.
Survivors include father, Jesse Roy Barnes of Houston; mother, Patsy McMillian of Wharton; son, Lon’Trey Devon McMillian of Wharton; and sisters, Raytosha and Raysheta McMillian, both of Wharton.

Clarence Phynon

Funeral services for Rev. Clarence Phynon Sr., 77, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with Rev. Ruiel Taylor III officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery.

Rev. Phynon died Oct. 23, 2005, at his residence. He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Wharton to Milton and Lucille Kelly Phynon.

Survivors include wife, Bernice Moore Phynon of Wharton; sons, Clarence Phynon Jr. of Egypt, Alvin Phynon of Neew Bern, N.C., Carlton Phynon, Edward Phynon Sr., Melvin Phynon, Kevin Phynon Sr. and Kenneth Phynon Sr., all of Wharton; daughters, Regina Phynon Dickerson of Hungerford, Linda Williams, Lori Phoenix and Girthrie Taylor, all of Wharton; brother, Tony Phynon of Wharton; sisters, Wilma Moore and Alice Humphrey, both of Wharton; 35 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Byron Soderman

Byron Noyd Soderman, age 80, of Wharton, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 28, 1924, in El Campo, son of the late Arthur Leonard Soderman and Mildred Helen Noyd Soderman.

Mr. Soderman was reared in El Campo and was a 1943 graduate of El Campo High School. He continued his education at the University of Texas where he received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Soderman was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a P-51 Pilot in the 359th Fighter Group in the European Theater of Operations. He married Dorothy Ann Vess on June 17, 1949, in El Campo and was happily married for 56 years. Mr. Soderman began working for Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in October 1950. He worked for TGS for 33 years during which time he became the general manager of the Newgulf sulphur plant and retired in January 1984 as the vice-president of Sulphur Operations of Texasgulf, Inc.

Mr. Soderman had been a member of the Boling Lions Club and served 12 years on the Boling Independent School District School Board. He was a passionate outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf, where he carried a 12-handicap and shot his age numerous times.

Special thanks to the loving caregivers in his home, Valerie Taylor and Rosa Dove, and Rosalinda Carbajal and Janet Palmer. Also thanks to his doctor of 18 years, Dr. Henry Zaleski, and Dr. Hani Haykal and Dr. Henry Lopez-Roman, home healthcare nurse Darlene Zahradnik, hospice nurse Cynthia Priesmeier, and hospice chaplain Don Storey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Goodell officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Mr. Soderman’s family will be receiving friends at their home in Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Soderman of Sugar Land; daughter, Ann Soderman of Houston; sons, Charles Soderman and wife, Debbie of West Columbia and Carl Soderman and wife, Alice, of Denver, Colo.; sister, Margaret Howard of Wharton; sister-in-law, Judy Vess of Victoria; grandchildren, Kristi Johnson, Chad Soderman, Beverly and Tim Hopkins, Adam and Kristina Walters, Charles Soderman Jr., Sam and Holly Soderman, Emily Walters, Joseph Soderman, Kim Walters, Eric Soderman and Cara Soderman; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Zachary, William, Breezie, Quincy, A.J. and Bella; nephews, Byron Howard, Joseph Howard, John Vess and Mike Vess. Besides his parents, Mr. Soderman was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Bruce “B.J.” Howard, Charles O. “Chick” Vess and nephew Bruce Howard Jr.

Pallbearers are Chad Soderman, Tim Hopkins, Adam Walters, Sam Soderman, Eric Soderman, and Gordon Birkner.

Honorary pallbearers are Edgar Roades, Billy Watkins, Clinton White, Wayne Herrington, Frank Robinson and Jack Gerhardt.

Mildred Anderson

Funeral services for Mildred F. Anderson, 92, of Hungerford, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seven Star Baptist Church with Rev. R. Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Heavenly Star Baptist Church in Houston. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Anderson died Nov. 16, 2005, in Burlington, N.J. She was born in Wharton on Oct. 5, 1913, to Phillip Henry and Laura Thomas Thomas.

Survivors include daughters, Louise Harlan of Burlington, N.J., and Dorothy Barley of Houston; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leo Baylor

Funeral services for Leo Baylor Sr., 83, of El Campo, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bible Truth Apostolic Church in El Campo. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in El Campo.

Mr. Baylor died Nov. 19, 2005. He was born July 1, 1922, in La Grange to Jim Baylor and Melissa Whipper.

He was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include wife, Ruby Lee Kirby Baylor; daughters, Dorithy Clark, Gracie Jean Lee, Lula Mae Shelton, Adrain Milissa Baylor, Tonie Elaine Williams, Cassandra Denise Baylor and Lorene Yvonne Baylor; sons, Leo Baylor Jr., Oscar John Baylor and Bruce Edward Baylor; siblings, Leona Lee, Vealor Perkins and Earnest Baylor; 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Bishop

Funeral services for Kenneth Wayne Bishop, 52, of Houston, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in El Campo with Rev. J. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in El Campo Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Bishop died Nov. 18, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Sept. 3, 1953, in Ganado to Herschel and Barbara Bishop Williams.

Survivors include parents, Herschel and Barbara Bishop Williams of El Campo; wife, Sherley Shelton Bishop of Houston; daughter, Angela La Von Shelton of El Campo; brothers, Jeffery Williams of El Campo, Curtis Williams of Ganado and Mark Williams of Rowlett; sister, Lynn Saddler of Houston; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

William Willeford

Following cremation, memorial services for William Lance Willeford, 34, of Wharton, were held on Monday at Peace Tabernacle in Wharton with Rev. Charles Fisher officiating.

Mr. Willeford died Nov. 17, 2005, in a Houston hospital. He was born on Nov. 23, 1970, in Longview, the son of William Larry Willeford and Sherry Ann Gage Willeford.

He was a resident of Wharton most of his life and was Christian by faith. Mr. Willeford was a graduate of Wharton High School and attended Wharton County Junior College.

He was an electrician by trade. Mr. Willeford was preceded in death by his father, William Larry Willeford.

Survivors include his mother, Sherry Ann Kielman of Wharton; daughter, Maylei Martinez Willeford of Sweeny; grandmother, Mary Sue Gage of Wharton; sister, Amy Suzette Robertson of Wharton; a niece, a nephew and several aunts and uncles.

Ramona Llanes

Funeral services for Ramona Salazar Llanes, 71, of Wharton, were held Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. A rosary was recited Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Llanes died Nov. 15, 2005, in a Wharton nursing home after an extended illness. She was born on July 24, 1934, in Goliad, the daughter of the late Francisco Salazar and Candida Aleman Salazar.

She was a longtime resident of Wharton and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. Mrs. Llanes married Crescencio Llanes on Feb. 18, 1952, in Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, Crescencio Llanes of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Isabel Llanes of Richmond, Carmen and Marcus Longoria, Minnie and Richard Gomez, Mary and Henry Longoria, Juanita and Alfredo Garza, Lori and Eloy Enriquez, all of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Rudy and Martha Llanes of Brazoria, Chris and Maria Llanes and Michael and Sharon Llanes, all of Wharton; sisters, Sara Cantu of Houston, Frances Llanes and Lupita Cordero, both of Wharton; brothers, Pablo Salazar of Brazoria, Pete, Paul and Steve Salazar, all of Wharton and Henry Salazar of Houston; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lovie Carroll

Funeral services for Lovie Marie Carroll, 56, of El Campo, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church.

Ms. Carroll died Nov. 13, 2005, at El Campo Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Midfield to Rose Lee Wilson and the late George Mabry.
Survivors include parent, Rose Lee Mabry; sons, Raymond Carroll Jr. and Daniel Carroll; brothers, Lee-Von Mabry, Alonzo Mabry, Roy Lee Mabry, Arthur Lee Mabry and George Mabry; sisters, Martha Mabry, Sarah Harris, Eva Warren, Lena Mae Johnson and Rose Richardson.

Kelly Dluhos

Funeral services for Kelly Louise Dluhos, 16, of El Campo, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Catholic Church in El Campo with Rev. Robert Guerra and Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at St. Philip Catholic Church. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Philip Catholic Church.

Kelly died Nov. 13, 2005. She was born May 17, 1989, in El Campo, the daughter of Tommy Dluhos and Rena Hlavaty Dluhos of El Campo.

She was a member of the El Campo High School Junior Class and was a member of the softball team, basketball team and track team. Kelly was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Silvan Dluhos. She was Catholic by faith.

Survivors include parents, Tommy and Rena Dluhos of El Campo; grandparents Raymond and Georgia Hlavaty and Mary Ann Dluhos, all of El Campo; sister, Katie Dluhos of El Campo; and brother, Kevin Dluhos of El Campo.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Wendel, Dusty Wendel, Jason Beery, Clint Dluhos, Clay Dluhos, Chet Dluhos and Jarrett Dluhos.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the El Campo High School Junior Class.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the Kelly L. Dluhos Memorial Scholarship Fund.
