Samuel Hayes

Funeral services for Samuel Louis Hayes, 58, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home with Rev. T. Baines officiating. Burial will follow in Jaw Bone Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Hayes died Dec. 27, 2005, in Texas City. He was born Dec. 10, 1947, in Wharton to Sandy S. and Annie Mae Houston Hayes.

Survivors include wife, Rose Marie Campbell Hayes of Bay City; sons, Caladrive Hayes of Wharton and Samuel Hayes of El Campo; daughter, Tamyrah Park of Indiana; brothers, Chester Houston and Arthur Johnson, both of Wharton; sister, Helen Hayes Bailey of Wharton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Crescencio Llanes

Funeral services for Crescencio Llanes Sr., 73, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Llanes died Dec. 28, 2005, in a Wharton hospital after a brief illness.

Della Macha

Della Marie Triska Macha of Hungerford, passed away on Dec. 27, 2005, at the age of 82. She was born on April 15, 1923, to the late Frank and Rosie Trcka Triska in Nada.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford, Catholic Daughters of America, K.J.Z.T. and St. John’s Altar Society.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca Macha Steehler and husband Jim of Houston, and Charlotte Macha Lapham of Austin; one son, Steven Macha and wife Diane of Sugar Land; sister, Jennie Goleman and husband Tom of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Chris Macha, Michelle Macha Corcia and husband, Trent, and Eric Macha; and one great-granddaughter, Blaise Corcia.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil E. Macha Jr.; brothers, Jerry Triska, Frank Triska Jr., Richard Triska and Leo J. Triska; and one sister, Annie Dusek.

Visitation will be on Thursday from noon until 5 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo.

A rosary was held on Thursday, at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford.

Funeral Services were held Friday, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rahunek officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Cemetery in Hungerford.

Pallbearers were Larry Bubela, Charles Orsak, Glen Goleman, Bernard Tejada, Ron Macha, Chris Triska, Joseph Vacca and Allen Dusek.

Honorary pallbearers were the Hungerford Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorial donations may be made to Hungerford Volunteer Fire Department or St. John’s Cemetery Fund, both in Hungerford.

Stormy Weathers

Funeral services for Stormy Weathers, 43, of Katy and formerly of Wharton, were held Dec. 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Katy Bible Church in Katy with Pastor Ron McDonnel officiating. Interment was in Wharton at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barney Pfeffer, Lionel Ramirez, John Ernestes, Brian Thomas, Robert Ruley and Marvin Long.

Mr. Weathers passed from this life in the afternoon of Dec. 21, 2005, in Katy. He was born June 22, 1962, at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond to Carl and Mildred Weathers.

In his professional life he was a truck driver, mechanic and his first job was house mover in the family business.
He was known for his kindness and gentle heart. He was always willing to lend a friend a hand. He graduated from Katy High School in 1982.

Mr. Weathers is survived by his daughter, Jillian Weathers of Wharton; parents, Carl and Mildred Weathers of Katy; brother and niece, Dusty and Jessica Weathers of Brookshire; sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Michael Mills, and their children Kristin and Robert Mills, all of Wharton; and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stewart Weathers; grandparents, Rosa Lee Nunn Struck, Elmer Carl Weathers Sr. and Opal Marie and Alfred F. Wilkinson.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Lakeside Mortuary of Eagle Lake.

Bessie Anderson

Funeral services for Bessie Lee Anderson, 93, of Glen Flora, will be held at noon Friday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Pierce Boone Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anderson died Dec. 25, 2005, at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston. She was born in Egypt to Johnny and Rissie Brooks James on Feb. 28, 1912. She was a homemaker and known throughout Wharton County as a great cook and baker. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Heroines of Jericho and a Baptist by faith.

In her death she leaves to mourn son, Robert Anderson and spouse of Houston; god-son, Albert Ducther of Ganado; niece, “My Little Angel,” Johnnie Jefferson of Richmond; adopted daughter, Carol Russ; god-daughter, Betty Hicks of Houston; sister, Daisy Anderson of Egypt; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Willie Spears, George Hicks III, Michael Phoenix, Larry Owens, Lester Aldridge and Clifford Francis.

Maria Gutierrez

Funeral services for Maria Isabel Resendez Gutierrez, 45, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Pleasanton with Monsignor Carlos Davalos officiating. Burial followed in the St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery No. 2. Rosary services were held Sunday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Additional rosary services were held Monday at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

Mrs. Gutierrez died Dec. 22, 2005, in Wharton following a brief illness. She was born July 16, 1960, in Ben Bolt, the daughter of Eduardo Resendez and the late Maria Elena Perez Resendez.

She was a longtime resident of Pleasanton before moving to Wharton in 1993. Mrs. Gutierrez married Henry Gutierrez on Oct. 16, 1986, in Pleasanton. She was a homemaker and worked as a former cook for both Wharton Independent School District and the Wharton Country Club. Mrs. Gutierrez was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and helped with the church bazaar each year. She was also a former WISD school volunteer.

Survivors include husband, Henry Gutierrez of Wharton; daughters, Monica Resendez of Wharton and Erica Resendez-Amador and husband, Thomas, of Wharton; sons, Paul Resendez and wife, Christina, of Wharton, Eric Resendez of Calhoun, Ga., and Enrique Juan “E.J.” Gutierrez and Michael Anthony Resendez, all of Wharton; father, Eduardo Resendez of Banquete; sisters, Velia Ottinger and husband, Edward, of Pleasanton and Rosario Resendez of Pleasanton; brother, Richard Resendez and wife, Suzanna, of Calallen; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

If desiring, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Ave., Wharton, TX 77488; or to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 626 Market Street, Pleasanton, TX 78064.

George Jenkins

Funeral services for George Jenkins, 81, of Wharton, are pending at Pierce Boone Funeral Home.

Isabel Melchor

Funeral services for Isabel Melchor, 93, of Waller and formerly of East Bernard, were held Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. from Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Don Ruppert celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment was at San Francisco Cemetery in East Bernard. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were all his grandchildren.

Born in WaeIder, Isabel was the son of Brigido and Cesaria Esparza Melchor. He was a reared in Waelder. Mr. Melchor married the former Victoria Tenorio on Oct. 4, 1937. He was a retired farmer and had worked for Wharton County, mowing right- of-ways. Mr. Melchor was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. He died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in Tomball.

He is survived by wife Victoria Melchor of Waller; his son, Martin Melchor of Lissie; daughters Alejandra Hernandez and husband Feliciano of East Bernard, Lucy Molina and husband George of Waller and Theadora Molina and husband Antonio of Rosenberg; sister, Maria M. Elizondo of Yoakum; brother, Lino Melchor Sr., of Austin; 10 granddaughters, six grandsons, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brigido and Cesaria Melchor; his daughter, Laura Rodriguez; and sister, Laura Cortez.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels, Wallis.

Victoria Melchor

Funeral services for Victoria Melchor, 84, of Waller and formerly of East Bernard, were held Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Dole Ruppert celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment was at the San Francisco Cemetery in East Bernard.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Born in Elm Grove community, Mrs. Mechor was the daughter of Pedro and Patricia Medrano Tenorio. She was reared in Waelder. The former Victoria Tenorio married Isabel Melchor on Oct. 4, 1937. She was a homemaker and worked ironing clothes at a cleaners. Mrs. Melchor died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, in Tomball.

She is survived by her daughters, Alejandra Hernandez and her husband Feliciano of East Bernard, Lucy Molina and husband George of Waller, Theadora Molina and husband Antonio of Rosenberg; her son, Martin Melchor of Lissie; sisters, Maria T. Estrada of Mathis and Angelita Rodriguez of San Antonio; brothers, Hilario Tenorio of La Grange, Perio Tenorio Jr., of San Antonio and Julian Tenorio of Hart; 10 granddaughters, six grandsons, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Patricia Tenorio; her husband, Isabel Melchor; and daughter, Laura Rodriguez.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Wallis.

Nolan Tisdale

Funeral services for Nolan Tisdale, 92, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mother Zion Baptist Church with Rev. C.L. Wallace officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Tisdale was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Wharton to Sam and Rebecca Bryant Tisdale. He worked as a custodian for Wharton County Junior College until his retirement and was Baptist by faith. Mr. Tisdale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ora Lee Tisdale; and brother, Obie Tisdale.

He leaves to mourn his death daughters, Celestine Barnes of Carrollton, Wilma Faye Steamer of Port Lavaca, Warnell Woolsey of Palacios and Delores Gillis of Houston; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Robert Anthony Woolsey, Michael Woolsey, Patrick Woolsey, Jervis Steamer, Russell Steamer, Derrick Barnes, Marques Raven and Darryl Raven.

Funeral services for Maria Isabel Gutierrez, 45, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gutierrez died Dec. 22, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Joy McIntosh

Funeral services for Joy Estell Hicks McIntosh, 78, of Wharton and formerly of Austin, will be held Thursday at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wharton with Rev. L.C. Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. McIntosh died Dec. 20, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born July 15,1927, in Austin to Rev. Walter P. and Zella Henderson Hicks. She retired after 29 years as a Teacher with Wharton Independent School District.

Survivors include husband, L.W. McIntosh of Wharton; sons, Marion W. McIntosh of Austin, L. H. McIntosh of Houston and Daryl K. McIntosh of Wharton; sisters, Maxine Hicks Taylor of Tucson, Ariz., and Waldine M. Tyler of Carson City, Nev.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Daisy Mejia

Funeral services for Daisy Ann Lane Mejia, 32, of Victoria, and formerly of East Bernard, will be held at noon Saturday, at The Family Worship Center in Victoria.

Mrs. Mejia died Dec. 22, 2005, in Victoria.

Virginia McCarter

Virginia Williford McCarter, 87, died on Dec. 17, 2005. She was born on July 22, 1918, in Fairfield, where she graduated from high school.

Mrs. McCarter received her B.A. degree in education in 1939 from Baylor University. Following graduation, she taught elementary school and was a high school basketball and volleyball coach for numerous small town Texas schools.
In 1942, she moved to San Antonio to work for the war depot and to pursue a business education. Following World War II, she moved to Houston and worked as an executive secretary for various businesses and continued to work while raising her two small children. Mrs. McCarter retired as a financial analyst in 1983 after working 12 years for H.U.D.

She was a past member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was a member for the past 33 years at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where she was active and held office in New Horizons Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.

Due to her strong belief in education, she was active and held office in clubs that supported education and scholarships as a member of River Oaks Friendship Club, the Delphians, a past member of Geological Wives Auxiliary, Tri-city Investment Club and as a lifelong learner, numerous book review clubs.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Embree McCarter; grandson, Jeffrey O’Connell; and brother, Richard Williford.
Mrs. McCarter is survived by daughter, Linda Acton Butcher and husband Chuck; son, Howard Acton and wife Karen; grandchildren, Ryan O’Connell, Christopher Butcher, Elaine Tackett and husband Steve, and Catherine, Laura and Amanda Acton; and numerous cousins and other relatives.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at The Settegast-Kopf Company Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay. Following a reception at the church, interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the River Oaks Friendship Club or to the Chapelwood UMC Foundation Fund.
