James Ondrias

James John “Jimmie” Ondrias, age 79, of Wharton, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at his residence in Wharton. He was born on Oct. 27, 1926, in Hungerford, son of the late George Ondrias and Veronica Krenek Ondrias.

Mr. Ondrias was a lifelong resident of Hungerford and Wharton. He attended Hungerford, Iago and Boling schools as a child. Mr. Ondrias obtained his technical training at The National Radio Institute, RCA and Zenith Electronics Schools. He was the owner/founder of Jimmie’s TV and Appliance in Wharton for 45 years until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Ondrias was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, fishing, cooking and listening to polka music. He loved his family and was a great provider for them.

Funeral mass services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating and Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako assisting. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services were held Monday evening at Wharton Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Ondrias of Wharton and their daughter, Julie Washburn and husband, Matt, of Plano; step-children, Sheila Cook and husband, Larry, of Richmond and Susan Svatek of Houston.

From his previous marriage to Helen Wesselski, he is survived by children, Jim Ondrias and wife, Dolly, of Houston, La Verne Gilligan and husband, Jim, of Beaumont, Ronnie Ondrias and wife, Deana, of Wharton, Darrell Ondrias and wife, Nancy, of Wharton, Linda Hancock and husband, J.R., of Round Rock, Michael Ondrias and wife, Dana, of Richmond. He is also survived by grandchildren, Katie Ondrias, Amy Moseley, Brian Ondrias, Wesley Ondrias, Paul Hancock, Haylee Hancock, Ashley Hancock, Dustin Williams, Jason Robinson, Logan Washburn, Taylor Cook, Travis Cook and Trent Cook.

Pallbearers were Jerome Labay, Anthony Duyka, Bill Hubenak, Jerry Ondrias, Bobby Joe Ondrias and Larry Austin.

Honorary pallbearers are all his many friends and former customers.

James Fleming

James Marshall Fleming, age 56, of El Paso, passed away on July 31, 2006. He was born on June 1, 1950, in Freeport to parents Marshall Emanuel and Justina Rafael Fleming.

Mr. Fleming graduated from Brazosport High School in Freeport in 1968. He joined the United States Army in January of 1969 and retired as aircraft maintenance senior sergeant in 1991. In his 21 years of service, Mr. Fleming fought in the Vietname War, earning awards such as Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and many others. He had been living in South Korea for 15 years before moving to El Paso in July of 2006.

He earned an associate of liberal arts and sciences degree from San Leo College in 1979 and an associate’s degree in aviation maintenance technology from Eastern New Mexico State in 2005.
Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marshall and Marguerite Fleming, and Julian and Rosario Rafael.

He is survived by his parents, Marshall and Justina Fleming of League City; children, Matthew Fleming of Savannah, Ga.; Danielle Fleming of Savannah, Ga.; grandchildren, Kayleigh Fleming and Taylor Fleming, of Savannah, Ga.; sister, Marguerite Ciruti and husband, Floyd, of Wharton; brother, Julian Fleming and wife, Carol, of Lake Jackson; nephew, Charles Ciruti, of Wharton; niece, Lacey Love, of The Woodlands; niece, Simi Ciruti, of Wharton; niece, Stacey Fleming, of Clear Lake; and nephew, John Fleming, of College Station.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Friendswood, 111 East Heritage Drive.

Nina Price

Nina Mildred Price was born June 3, 1918, in Pierce to Carl and Katie Rasmussen. She graduated from Crescent High School. Later she was employed at Kelly Air Force Base and met and married George Price.

Mrs. Price died on Monday, July 31, 2006, in the Port Lavaca Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Joann and husband Sonny Brune of Markham; son, Thomas Price and wife Gwen of San Antonio; daughter, Mary Jo and husband Bob Lytton of Sherman; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Oscar Rasmussen of Wharton; sisters, Myrtle Kernel of Wharton and Rose Kate Martinique of El Campo; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eva Kenter; brothers, Willie, Calvin, Robert and Gilbert.

Rosa Richardson

Funeral services for Rosa Lee Richardson, 88, of Houston, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christian Faith Baptist Church, 2616 Calumet St. in Houston, with Rev. D.Z. Cofield officiating. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Paradise Cemetery South.

Mrs. Richardson passed away July 25, 2006, at Triumph Hospital of Southwest Houston.
Survivors include daughter, Bettie Griffin of Houston; and four grandchildren.

Ernest Bogan

Funeral services for Ernest Bogan, 79, of Pledger, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Pledger. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Bogan died Aug. 8, 2006, at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1926, to the late Joseph and Mary Jane Bogan.
His father died when he was a child and Mr. Bogan took over as the father figure. He never received a formal education. Mr. Bogan was a member of Union Baptist Church. He married Rita Doris Barnes on Oct. 10, 1949, and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and one son.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Winda Bogan of Pledger, Ernest Bogan Jr. of La Marque, Michael and Oma Bogan and Jerone Bogan, all of Wharton; daughters and son-in-law, Elaine Lewis of Houston, Ethel and Curtis Ellis and Eunice Jackson, all of Wharton; brother, Henry Charles Bogan of Texas City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Elijah Smith of La Marque, Dorothy and Nazareth Stanely and Ethel Jackson, all of Texas City; brother-in-law, William Small of Texas City; step-daughter, Ernestine White of Kendleton; step-niece, Vanessa Norman of La Marque; step-sons, Norman Miller of La Marque, Julius Childress of Houston and Sherman Whalon of Pledger; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ernest Bogan

Funeral services for Ernest Bogan Jr. of LaMarque will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 3rd Avenue, in LaMarque.

Mr. Bogan died Aug. 21, 2006. He was born March 18, 1949, to the late Ernest Bogan Sr. and Rita Barnes Bogan in Newgulf.

Mr. Bogan graduated from Boling High School in 1967. Then he joined the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge he completed a bachelor’s degree in business. Mr. Bogan was employed at the Amoco Chemical Refinery for 21 years and was currently employed with the City of Houston Department of Public Works and was a self-employed as a certified automotive mechanic. Mr. Bogan served as superintendent of Sunday School at Hopewell Church.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, one grandson and one brother.

Survivors include sons and daughters, Marqus Bogan of Houston, Majour Bogan of La Marque, Roshanda Bogan of Houston; adopted daughter, Tamara Wilson of La Marque; three brothers, Dennis and wife Winda Jackson of Pledger, Michael and wife Oma Bogan and Jerone Bogan of Wharton; three sisters, Elaine Lewis of Houston, Ethel Ellis and husband Curtis and Eunice Jackson, all of Wharton; and three grandchildren.

Lucille Foster

Lucille Foster, age 92, of Wharton, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Wharton following a brief illness. She was born on Feb. 20, 1914, in New Ulm, daughter of the late Adolph and Caline Keck Schunka.

Mrs. Foster was a resident of Wharton since 1939. She was a homemaker all her life and also worked at the Wharton Livestock Auction in the café and also in the City Café in Wharton. Mrs. Foster married Fred Jim Kocurek on Sept. 4, 1929, in Corpus Christi, and he preceded her in death in January of 1947. She later married Paul Louis Foster on Oct. 12, 1948, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1989. She was also preceded in death by three brothers Johnny, Charlie and Frank Schunka; and three sisters, Hulda Bennetsen, Mary Maly and Valara Honc; grandson, Timothy Pyka; and two granddaughters, Tina Marie Kocurek and Kathy Jo Kocurek; and two sons-in-law, Jesse Klimple and George Pyka. Mrs. Foster was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Laura Olson officiating. Internment will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Helen Koehler of Wharton, Angie Klimple of Wharton, Katherine Pyka of Winnie; and son; Albert Kocurek of Boling; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clint Koehler, Cole Koehler, Tyler McDonald, Vance McDonald, Blake Fisher and Timothy Kocurek.
Honorary pallbearers are her friends and staff members of Avalon Place Nursing Home.

Arlene Parson

Funeral services for Arlene Parson, 62, of Louise, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow.

Mrs. Parson died Aug. 16, 2006, at Triumph Hospital of Southwest Houston. She was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Louise to M.E. and Maddie Lawson North Sr.
Survivors include daughter, Michelle Parson ofEl Campo; brothers, M.E. North Jr. of El Campo and Donald North of Louise; sisters, Betty Lawson of Saganaw, Mich; Alice Strain of Washington, D.C., Eva Bennett, Hazel Brown and Marie North, all of San Antonio, and Doris Edwards of Louise; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Glenn

Funeral services for William Lee Glenn Sr., 67, of Boling, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home with Paul Jones officiating. military graveside services and burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery under the direction of Wharton American Legion Post No. 87.

Mr. Glenn died Aug. 27, 2006, in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 7, 1938, in Eagle Lake, son of the late William Henry Glenn and Hortense Peikert Glenn.

He was a former resident of Hungerford and Iago before moving to Boling in 1970. He was a 1957 graduate of East Bernard High School. Mr. Glenn was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He. married Sherry Marie Guill on Dec. 20, 1967, in Boling. He was employed as a foreman for Cooper Industries in Missouri City for 33 years. Mr. Glenn also worked as a machinist for the Dorian Tool Company until his retirement in the late 1990s. He was Church of Christ by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Glenn of Boling; sons, Brett Allan Glenn of Boling and William Lee Glenn Jr. of Wallis; mother, Hortense Glenn of Hungerford; sisters, Bonnie Darroh and husband, Dick, of Richmond, Edith Borak of Hungerford; brothers, Gerald Glenn of Ganado and David Glenn and wife, Linda, of Wharton; and two grandchildren.

Diane Mathis

Diane Elaine Mathis left the world to be with her Lord on Aug. 28, 2006. She was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Galveston to the late Hoffman Ailes Mathis Sr. and Elizabeth Hawes Mathis. She was the fourth of five children and after courageous battle with cancer joined her brothers Jack Richard Mathis and Hoffman Ailes Mathis Jr., and also was preceded in death by her uncle Jack R. Hawes Jr.

She is survived by her loving sisters, Kathy Mathis Austin and husband Gene of Texas City and Deborah Kay Hales and husband Bill of Wharton. She is also survived by her caring nieces and their husbands, Elizabeth Austin Blackburn and husband Bren of Texas City, Wendy Austin Denson and husband Shawn of Needville and Cheryl Austin Vinson and John of Texas City along with 14 great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by cousins Kenneth Nelson of Houston and Carolyn Vetters of Rockport.

Ms. Mathis had been a resident of Richmond State School for 30-plus years and deeply enjoyed Special Olympics as a participant along with a great love for people, especially children and dogs.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque with Deacon Steve Mistretta officiating. Funeral Mass will be Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City with Rev. Tom Ponzini officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Nelson, Shawn Denson, Ronald J. Boyt Jr., Bren Blackburn, Bren Thomas Blackburn and Chase Ryan Vinson.

The family would like to extend special thanks and recognition to the staff of Richmond State School for the many years of devoted and dedicated care of Ms. Mathis.

Walter Thompson

Funeral services for Walter “Jack” Thompson, 74, of San Antonio, will be held at 9 a.m. today,

Wednesday, at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel No. 1 with the committal service following at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Thompson died Aug. 26, 2006, in San Antonio. He was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Wharton to the late Paul and Cleo Young Thompson.

Survivors include daughter, Kristi Thompson; and
son, Garry Thompson.

Henry Cano

Following cremation, memorial services for Henry Cano, 39, of Houston, will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Cano died Aug. 25, 2006, in Houston following a sudden illness. He was born on Aug. 7, 1967, in El Campo, to the late Juan Cano Jr. and Beatrice Saucedo Cano.

He had been a resident of Houston for the past 18 years and was a former long-time resident of El Campo. He was preceded in death by his father in 2002. He was Catholic by faith and worked as an independent contractor of floor coverings.

Survivors include a daughter, Samantha Cano and two sons, Ross Cano and Marcos Cano, all of East Lakes, Ohio; mother, Beatrice Cano of Wharton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Yvonne Cano of Houston and Johnny and Kim Cano of Wharton; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 507 S. East Ave., Wharton, Texas 77488.
