Lawrence Naiser

Funeral services for Lawrence Edward Naiser, 75, of El Campo, were held Thursday at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Burial with military honors were conducted by American Legion Post No. 251 at the St. John’s Cemetery in New Taiton.

Mr. Naiser died on Aug. 29, 2006, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was born on June 30, 1931, in Taiton to the late Emil and Mary Polasek Naiser.
He served in the intelligence division of the U.S. Armed Forces. Mr. Naiser served 30 plus years with the Internal Revenue Service, distinguishing himself by becoming Chief Intelligence in Oklahoma City, Okla. During this period, he received his MBA from Oklahoma City University.

After retirement from the IRS, he went into private practice as an attorney for 10 years with offices in El Campo and Houston. He was elected and served eight years as Wharton County Judge.
He was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 2490, Texas Bar Association, American Legion Post No. 251, the Elk’s Lodge and the Wharton County 100 Club.

Survivors include wife, Delores “Tootsie” Petter Naiser of El Campo; daughters, Deborah Luton and husband Gill of Muskogee, Okla.; Karen Tennery and husband John of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Adam Luton and wife Evan, Emily Luton and Hope Tennery; great-grandchild, Hallie Faith Luton; twin sister, Lorraine Dennis of El Campo; sisters, Jo Ann Naiser of Texas City and Elaine Hicks of Mansfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Phillips and brother Frank Naiser.

Memorial donations in memory of Lawrence Naiser may be made to St. Philip’s Catholic Church, St. Philip’s School Endowment Fund or a charity of personal choice.

Dorothy Schuhmann

Dorothy Russell Schuhmann, age 91, of Wharton and formerly of East Bernard, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at her residence in Wharton. She was born on Dec. 19, 1914, in Tarrytown, N.Y., daughter of the late Benton and Dorothy Cook Russell.

Following graduation from high school, Mrs. Schuhmann attended Skidmore College and then Charity Nursing School in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Dr. John Daniel Schuhmann Sr. on Aug. 10, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1993. The Schuhmanns moved to East Bernard in 1936 and Mrs. Schuhmann lived there until moving to Wharton in 2001. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in East Bernard and a former MYF leader. Mrs. Schuhmann was a member of the Wharton Country Club and a lifetime member of the National Association on Miniature Enthusiasts. Many of her miniatures are on display at the Wharton County Historical Museum.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in East Bernard with Rev. Michael Holcomb officiating.
Interment will follow in the East Bernard Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Wharton Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughters, Jane Schuhmann Warnick of Houston and Maxine Schuhmann Canty and husband, Dr. Tim Canty Sr., of La Jolla, Calif.; son, John Daniel Schuhmann Jr. and wife, Melanie, of Somerset, Calif.; sisters, Florence Russell Jones of Houston and Jane Russell Borysewich and husband, Harry, of Houston; brother, Benton S. Russell III and wife, Vickie, of Houston; grandchildren, Sean Todd Canty, Timothy Canty Jr., Tabitha Canty Davidson, Shannon Warnick, Phillip Warnick and wife, Rebecca, Alyson Warnick, Mary Warnick Kohl and husband, Eric, Leslie Schuhmann Sabo and husband, David; great-grandchildren, Lisa and Collin Hegemeyer, Daniel and Sarah Litchfield, Jackson Hopper Canty, Giles MacRae Canty, Tea Mei Canty, Eamon Joseph Davidson, Brendan Patrick Davidson and George Henry Warnick.

Pallbearers are Todd Canty, Tim Canty, Jerry Boettcher, Dan Gertson, Phillip Warnick, Robert Brandes and David Brandes.

Honorary pallbearers are Buck Boettcher, Charles Boettcher, Harry Borysewich, Robert Schuhmann and Jack Quirey.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the Wharton County Historical Museum, P. O. Box 349, Wharton, TX 77488; or to the J. Dan Schuhmann Scholarship Fund, c/o Wharton County Junior College, 911 E. Boling Highway, Wharton, TX 77488.

Agnes Spurr

Agnes Rose Spurr, age 88, of Wharton, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Gulf Coast Medical Center of a sudden illness. She was born on Dec. 21, 1917, in Hungerford, the daughter of the late John P. Krenek and Mary Bartos Krenek.

Mrs. Spurr has been a resident of the Wharton area all of her life. She married Theo Spurr on Feb. 7, 1948, in Wharton, he preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1985. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Frances Spurr; sisters, Frances Bedynek, Mary Borak and a brother, Joe W. Krenek. Mrs. Spurr was a homemaker and was retired from Hager’s Grocery Store. She was Catholic by faith. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. She also loved her pets and spending time with her family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call for visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home with a Rosary to begin at 7 p.m.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Robert Zahradnik of Wharton and Kathryn and Larry Gaskamp of The Woodlands; sisters, Martha Welfel of Wharton and Helen Miller of Houston; and grandchildren, Kasey and Austin Gaskamp and James and Mark Zahradnik.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Annie Boehm

Funeral services for Annie Ruth Boehm, 94, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating.

Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. A Rosary was recited Friday at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boehm died Jan. 31, 2007, in Wharton following an extended illness. She was born on Dec. 21, 1912, in Hungerford, the daughter of the late John Hlavac and Veronika Muhlstein Hlavac.

She had been a resident of Wharton since 1954 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and the Altar Society. Mrs. Boehm married Henry James Boehm on Feb. 11, 1941, in Hallettsville, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1999.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Albina Hlavac and Vlasta Holik; and three brothers, John, Raymond and Franklin Hlavac.

Survivors include her sisters; Alma Brosch, Agnes Holik and Mary Zappe, all of Hallettsville; brothers, Lado Hlavac of Hallettsville and Willie Hlavac of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church Altar Society, 2011 Briar Ln., Wharton, TX 77488; or a charity of personal choice.

Gwendolyn Campbell

Gwendolyn Dianne Campbell, 56, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007. She was born in Bay City on Feb. 6, 1950, to Herman and Luella Grovey.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include husband, Rev. Myron A. Campbell Sr. of Houston; children and spouses, Adrienne Parrish, Nicole and Roderick Cochran, all of Houston, and Myron and Marlena Campbell II of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, Brandon, Savannah and Maiya; two sisters, Kay Milda Phillips of Los Angeles, Calif., and Audrey and Robert Dixon of Brazoria.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 3407 Bellfort in Houston, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jesse C. Edwards officiating and Pastor Roderick E. Cochran as eulogist. Burial will follow at Paradise South Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., wake from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton.

Charles Nuspliger

Charles S. Nuspliger Jr., age 49, of Lane City, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on June 17, 1957, in Wharton, the son of Charles S. Nuspliger Sr. and Ruby Koehler Nuspliger.

He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Mr. Nuspliger married Mechelle Ann Walker on March 14, 1986, in Wharton. He worked as an HVAC Technician for Nanya Plastics for 10 years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a barbecue grill master.

A Rosary was recited at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and a Funeral Mass followed at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Mechelle Nuspliger; daughters, Kristin, Kayla, Jessica, Joy and Jennifer Nuspliger, Heather Tabor and Latisha Wood; sons, Jeremy, Jacob and Steven Nuspliger, all of Lane City; mother, Ruby Nuspliger of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Mike Coppinger of La Grange, Patsy Schultz of Richmond, Joan Miller of Sugar Land, Mary Magdalen and Ed Knight of Weimar, and Phyllis Massey and Denny Morgan of Belden, Neb.; and one granddaughter, Destiny Wood of Wharton; and former wife, Brenda Andel of Wharton.

Pallbearers were Leo Garza, Brian Bowen, Randy Glendenning, Gilbert Hundl, Ronnie Mechura, Eric Teich, Bobby Burkhardt and David Ivy.

Honorary pallbearers were David Ivy and all of his friends and co-workers..

Bertha Brown

Bertha Eva “Avie” Brown passed away peacefully at her home in Houston on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at the age of 89 years. Mrs. Brown was born to parents Sandor and Bertha Doszpoly Horvath in Westfield on Oct. 21, 1917. She was a longtime resident of Pledger, where she met her husband, Ernest Wesley Brown, who she married Nov. 29, 1939. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing in 1984.

Mrs. Brown was deeply committed to her family, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She was a devout member of Pledger Baptist Church with a deep and abiding faith in God and Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Brown enjoyed gardening and derived great pleasure from tending her roses and other beautiful flowers. She was a wonderful cook, particularly of dishes and desserts from her parents’ native Hungary.

Mrs. Brown also was an accomplished seamstress, spending countless enjoyable hours designing and sewing for her children and grandchildren. Her gentle, caring nature, ever-present smile and easy laughter will be missed by all the lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter, Bertha Rudin and husband Fred of Houston; by her son, Ernest Sandor Brown and wife Lori of Houston; by her grandchildren, Michael Rudin and wife Julia of Houston, Michelle Sebesta and husband Jim of Richmond, Sharyl Taylor and husband Kent of Houston, Andrew Brown, Erin Brown and Bethany Brown, all of Houston; great-grandchildren, David Klen, Caitlin Rudin, Skye Rudin and Cameron Rudin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Johnny Horvath and Edward Horvath; and sisters, Pearl Horvath and Louise Galloway.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willard Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Theodore Jablonski

Funeral services for Theodore “Ted” Jablonski, 83, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.

Fr. Dominic Boasiako will officiate the services. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.

Mr. Jablonski was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Kyle to Tone and Pauline Kalinowski Jablonski. After serving in World War II in the U. S. Army from 1943 until he was wounded and discharged in 1945, he became a life member of VFW Post No.3903 in Rosenberg and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Jablonski retired from Quantex in 1988 after 30 years of service. He was also a life member of the Fort Bend County Fair Association. Mr. Jablonski passed away Jan. 28, 2007, at Gulf Coast Medical Hospital in Wharton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tone and Pauline Jablonski, and a brother, Alex Jablonski.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margie Batchelor Jablonski of Wharton; son, Theodore “Teddy” Jablonski and wife, Pat, of Rosharon; daughter, Rossana Kettler and husband, Alvin Jr., of Needville; grandchildren, Warren Jablonski and wife, Marilyn, of Palmdale, Calif., Cody Kettler and wife, Gina, of Damon, Kelsey Mach and husband, Steven, of Damon; great-grandchildren, Cody Kettler Jr., John and Jacob Jablonski; along with other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will include C.D. Kalinowski, Cody Kettler, Danny Zwahr, Tommy Jablonski, Niki Batchelor and James Jakubec.

Service arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
