Betty Krenek

On Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at the age of 78, the Lord welcomed our beloved “mama” and “granny,” Betty Sophie Janik Krenek, into heaven. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 14, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with burial at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Krenek was born on March 26, 1929 in Jourdanton. She graduated from East Bernard High School in May of 1947. On Sept. 15, 1947, she married Joe A. Krenek Jr. and lovingly reared four children.

She will be deeply missed by her family: daughter, Bonnie Kocian and husband James of Damon; sons, Ronald Joe Krenek and wife Susan of Wharton and Donald Krenek of Sugar Land; granddaughters, Betty Jo Krenek and Holly Krenek both of Austin; grandson, Jason Kocian and wife Kati of Needville; sister, Willie Mae Rieger of Wharton; brothers, Charley Janik of Wallis, Bennie Janik, Edwin Janik and Leeroy Janik all of East Bernard.

Mrs. Krenek was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, Lonnie; her parents, Emil and Sophie; and brother, Louis.
She was a faithful and active member of St. John’s Catholic Church. For many years she owned Krenek’s Bridal Shop where she showed her talent in the weddings she coordinated and decorated. She took great care in designing her floral arrangements.

But it was her three grandchildren that kept her spirits alive after the deaths of her husband and son. Betty Jo, Holly and Jason were only six years old then. As they grew up, she was so very proud of their accomplishments. She always ended a phone conversation or visit with these three special words, “Granny Loves You.”

Even after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2001, she was never heard to complain. But for the next six years it was one illness or surgery after another until she couldn’t bear anymore pain.

She had many special friends who kept in contact with her daily by phone or visits. If it wasn’t for all of you, we wouldn’t have had all this special time with her.

Pallbearers were Jason Kocian, Sean Hollis, Dale Janik, Gene Hubenak, Michael Hubenak, Allen Ray Rachunek and Bobby Rieger.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Mark Marconi, Dr. Henry Lopez, nieces, nephews and friends.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the St. John’s Catholic Church Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society.
