Irene Giesie

Funeral services for Irene Mary Giesie, 81, of Brazoria, were held Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brazoria with Rev. Leo Wleczyk officiating. Burial followed on Dec. 29 at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rosenberg.

Mrs. Giesie died Dec. 25, 2003, at her residence. She was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Garwood to the late William and Hattie Wishert.

She retired from Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District after working in the school cafeteria at Brazoria Elementary School for 20 years. Mrs. Giesie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brazoria.

Survivors include son, Eddie Giesie of Brazoria; daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Spalek of Bay City and Patsy and Phil Hathorn of Huntsville; brothers and sister-in-law, James “Bubba” Wishert of Brazoria and Pete and Bonnie Wishert of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Charles Fitzgerald of Lane City, Ethel and Charles Nelson of Palestine, Hattie Jo and Edward O’Briant of League City and Dorothy and Joe Ziober of Lane City; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl John Giesie; brothers, Louie, Buddy, Robert and Willie Wishert; and sister, Adele Giesie.

Otis Koebelen

Funeral services for Otis Albert “A.O.” Koebelen, 79, of Boling were held Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Mission with his cousin, Mnsg. Reginald Nesvadba, officiating. Burial followed in West Gethsemane Cemetery in Rosenberg.

Mr. Koebelen died Jan. 1, 2004, at Spring Branch Medical Center in Houston after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Pleak to Otto and Minnie Koebelen.

He was a graduate of Rosenberg High School in 1942. Mr. Koebelen served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1946 during World War II. He married Nolee Christ on June 12, 1947, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. Mr. Koebelen had been a resident of Boling since 1951 and was a former resident of Wharton and Rosenberg. He went to work at Texas Gulf Sulphur, Inc., on Aug. 24, 1950, and worked for nearly 32 years as a heavy equipment operator until he retired on Oct. 1, 1982. In May of 1990 he took a part-time job with Wittig Grass Farm and then later with Central Turf until July 1995. Mr. Koebelen was a member of Christ The King parish in Newgulf until it closed in 1967. They then became active in the development of St. Joseph Catholic Mission chairing the first three bazaars and in 1998 was recognized for 30 years of service to the parish.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nolee Christ Koebelen of Boling; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Koebelen of Houston, Thelma Jane and Dave Schulz of Bleiblerville, Wanda and John Ripple of Houston; 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter; and 2 step-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorene Telge; and brother, Dennis E. Koebelen.

In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Mission, c/o Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488.

John Noblitt

John Alwin “Jake” Noblitt, age 88, of West Columbia, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at his residence in West Columbia. He was born on Dec. 9, 1915, in Newton County, Texas, the son of the late Mary Christine Brailsford Noblitt and Charles Ralph Noblitt, Sr.

Mr. Noblitt was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Houston in 1934 and worked as a heavy equipment salesman for Browning-Ferris Machine Company and was a self-employed contractor. He later moved to West Columbia and worked as a rancher.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, in the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. Mickey Reynolds officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Beaumont.

Survivors include his brother, Charles Ralph “Muggins” Noblitt Jr. of Beaumont and nieces, Susan Noblitt of LaGrange and Jo Ann Jones of Arlington. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Margurite Vollmer, and brother, Mack Noblitt.

Pallbearers will be Lupe Ramirez, Johnny Ramirez, Alan Fitzgerald, Kenny Shaw, Frank Garza, Johnny Hobbins, Tommy Hobbins and Jeff Fitzgerald.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald, C.A. Fitzgerald, David Looper, Blackie Wallace, Jimmy Wallace, Bud Horelca, Milton Simms, Wayne Rimmer and his friends from the Boling store.

Lillie V. Owens

Funeral services for Lillie V. Owens, 95, of Spanish Camp will he held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at Camp Zion Rising Star United Baptist Church with Rev. C. Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Owens died Jan. 5, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born March 4, 1908, in Wharton to Abel and Patsy Owens Moses.

Survivors include sons Arnold Owens of Germany, James Owens of Houston; daughter Ella Knox of Houston; brother Robert Moses of San Francisco; sisters Vera Sanford of Wharon and Rebecca McGarity of San Antonio; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.

Dornal Riggins

Funeral services for Dornal Robert Riggins, 44, of Wharton will he held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Mother Zion Baptist Church with Rev. C.L. Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery.

Mr. Riggins died Jan. 1, 2004, at El Campo Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1959, in El Campo to Woodrow and Amelia Holloway Riggins Sr.

Survivors include wife, Nicole Lott Riggins of Wharton; sons, Corey Lockett of Wharton and Terrance Goodin of Houston; daughters, Jada Donielle Riggins of Wharton and Misty Williams of Houston; brothers, Woodrow Riggins Jr. and Edward Riggins, both of Houston, Clyde Riggins of West Columbia and Ray Lee Holloway of El Campo; sisters, Patricia Grays of Houston, Lula Mae Bluntson, Erma Riggins, Francis Holloway, Rose Marie Holloway and Ann Holloway, all of El Campo; and 1 grandson.

Isabel White

Funeral services for Isabel Leona Stolle White, 80, of Wharton, were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. John Kunnathukuzhy officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A wake service was held Monday at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. White died Jan. 3, 2004, in a Wharton hospital after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Wharton, the daughter of the late Elo and Leona Ullman Stolle.

She was a lifelong resident of Wharton and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include husband, Willard White of Wharton; sons, Laddie Prihoda of Wimberley and Eddie Prihoda of Lake Jackson; sisters, Dorothy Rachunek and Evelyn Ferguson, both of Wharton; brothers, Elo R. Stolle and Butch Stolle, both of Wharton; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters, Teresa Lofton and Loretta Mata.

Stacy Booker

Funeral services for Stacy Lee “Big Boy” Booker, 35, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Camp Zion-Rising Star Baptist Church with Rev. C. Owens Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Booker died April 10, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1968, in El Campo to Johnny Horton and Delores Booker.

Survivors include mother, Delores Booker of Wharton; sons, Kelton G. Buettner of Rosenberg; brother, Byron Norman of Huron, S.D.; sisters, Tracy Vohwinkle of Birch Run, Mich., Mary Ballard and Martha Ballard, both of San Antonio.

Maximiliano Gonzales

Funeral services for Maximiliano “Max” Gonzales Sr., 84, of El Campo, will be held 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Rosary services were held Tuesday evening at the Wharton Funeral Home.

Mr. Gonzales died April 9, 2004, in Wharton. He was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Eagle Lake, the son of the late Pedro and Pauline Gonzales.

He was a former resident of Wharton before moving to El Campo in 1962. While living in Wharton, he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and most recently was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church in El Campo. Mr. Gonzales married Amanda Cerrillo and she preceded him in death in 1959. He later met and married Lydia Escamilla, who preceded him in death in 1994. He was a former employee of Texas Gulf Sulphur and most recently worked for Tide Products in El Campo for 27 years before his retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Rudy and Julia Gonzales of Wharton and Max and Rachel Gonzales Jr. of El Campo; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gonzalo and Juan Gonzales.

Charles Luco

Funeral services for Charles Lee Walter Luco, 85, of Wharton, were held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Wharton with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.

Mr. Luco died April 8, 2004, in Wharton. He was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Wharton, the son of the late Henry and Emilea Teske Luco.

He married Marguerite Pool on Nov. 23, 1940. in Wharton. Mr. Luco earned a bachelor’s degree in science and agriculture from Sam Houston Teachers College. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Luco worked for Texasgulf Sulphur Company as a shipping supervisor for 43 years prior to retiring in 1983.

He was a lifetime resident of Wharton, a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marguerite Luco of Wharton; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phil Bush of Wharton; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Selma Luco of Wharton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Victor Petrash

Funeral services for Victor Andrew Petrash Sr., 79, of Wharton, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. John Kunnathukuzhy officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Monday at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mr. Petrash died April 10, 2004, in Wharton. He was born Febr. 4, 1925, in Ganado, the son of the late Robert John and Frances Stavinoha Petrash.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Petrash married Helen Marie Kubena on May 6, 1947, in East Bernard. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 2001. He was part-owner and worked as a butcher at Sansing’s Supermarket. Mr. Petrash later worked as a courier for South Texas Medical Clinic for 17 years prior to retiring in 1994. He was a longtime resident of Wharton County, and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and KJT.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Dennis Mader of Angleton; sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Rebecca Petrash Jr. of El Campo, Anthony and Letha Petrash of Victoria and David and Debra Petrash of Wharton; sisters, Frances Janis of Port Alto and Mary Ann Kubena of Wharton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by sister, Irene Jedlicka, and brother, Robert Petrash.

Diviyonce Scott

Funeral services for infant Diviyonce Scott of Houston, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Matthews Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery.

Diviyonce died April 8, 2004, at Hermann Hospital. He was born the same day.

Survivors include his parents, Nathan Scott and Ellen Mack; and brother, Allen Thomas.

Margie Chilek

Funeral Services for Margie Chilek, 68, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chilek died July 9, 2004, in a Houston hospital.

William Spacek

William Henry Spacek, age 60, of Boling, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 17, 1943, in Zabcikville, the son of the late John Paul Spacek and Agnes Siebert Spacek.

Mr. Spacek had been a resident of Boling for the past five years and was a former longtime resident of Alvin. He married Lillian Schulze on Aug. 1, 1970, in Boling. Mr. Spacek was a veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boling. Mr. Spacek worked as a maintenance technician for Amoco Chemicals for 22 years until his retirement in February of 1999. He enjoyed refurbishing old cars, woodworking and fishing.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. David Dye officiating and assisted by Rev. Skip Holman. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Spacek of Boling; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Adam Arvello of Dickinson and Stephanie and Don Tower of Lometa; mother, Agnes Spacek of Temple; sister, Agnes Raabe of Temple; brothers, Johnnie Spacek of Boling, Steve Spacek of Bay City and Anthony Spacek of Wharton.; grandchildren, Kayla Tower, Rachel Tower and Don Ethan Tower.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Wittig, Daniel Wittig, Bruce Wittig, Keith Wittig, Scott Malovets, Keith Kostelnik, Jerry Svatek Jr. and Justin Mach Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Spacek and Darryle Spacek.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Hospice Support , Inc., 1102 N. Mechanic, Suite B, El Campo, TX 77437; or the Skilled Nursing Unit at Gulf Coast Medical Center, 1400 Hwy. 59, Wharton, TX 77488.

Esther Schroeder

Following cremation, memorial services for Esther Schroeder, 96 of Wharton, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wharton.

Ms. Schroeder died Dec. 1, 2004, in Wharton. She was born on Sept. 8, 1908, in Brenham, the daughter of the late Fred Schroeder and Emma Steinman Schroeder.
She was a former resident of Eagle Lake before moving to Wharton in 1981. Ms. Schroeder was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wharton.

Survivors include her sister, Lilly Reese of Wharton, and five nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ola Reagan, and two brothers, Willie and Charlie Schroeder.
