Bernadette Reed

Funeral services for Bernadette “Bernie” Reed, 76, of East Bernard, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Don Ruppert officiating. Burial will follow in the East Bernard Methodist Cemetery. Rosary services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, at Wharton Funeral Home with Tim Duyka officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reed died Aug. 18, 2004, in Houston. She was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Wharton, the daughter of the late Emil William Faltisek and Helen Keprta Faltisek.

She was reared in East Bernard and was a graduate of East Bernard High School. Mrs. Reed later attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Houston. She married John Alton Reed on June 20, 1948, in Wharton. Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and a resident of Wharton for more than 40 years before she and her husband moved back to East Bernard in 2002. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard and a member of the Catholic Daughters. Mrs. Reed was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, John Reed of East Bernard; daughter, Leannah Reed Thurman and husband, Rick, of Houston; sons, Jack Reed and wife, Terry Ann, of Dallas and Rob Reed and wife, Liz, of East Bernard; sisters, Annette Weber and husband, Maurice, of Raleigh, N.C., Yvonne Krenek and husband, Tom, of East Bernard and Patsy Faltisek of Houston; brother, Emil Faltisek and wife, Ollie, of Lake Jackson; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Susan Reed, on March 19, 1965, and by a sister, Helen Aubertin.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 204 2nd Street, Wharton, TX 77488; the American Liver Foundation, 2425 West Loop South, Suite 660, Houston, TX 77027-4207; the East Bernard EMS, P.O. Box 612, East Bernard, TX 77435; or a charity of personal choice.

Alvin Rieger

Funeral services for Alvin Leon Rieger, 85, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery in El Campo.

Mr. Rieger died Aug. 19, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following a brief illness.

Kathleen Delgado

Kathleen Marie “Kathy” Delgado, age 53, of Wharton, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, in a Wharton hospital following a sudden illness. She was born on Dec. 7, 1952, in Hoxie, Kan., the daughter of the late John Nauer and Maureen Hurst Nauer.

Mrs. Delgado had been a resident of Beasley for the past 24 years and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. She was employed at Gulf Coast Medical Center and was a supervisor of the Housekeeping Department for the past 11 years. Mrs. Delgado married Ramon Anton Delgado on Oct. 30, 1972, in Austin. Besides her parents, Mrs. Delgado was also preceded in death by three grandchildren.

A rosary was recited Sunday evening, Jan. 22, 2006, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Cremation followed at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Delgado of Beasley; daughters and son-in-law, Anita Delgado, Jessica Delgado and husband, Nathan Paul Hayes, and Samantha Delgado, all of Beasley; sons and daughters-in-law, David James and Tanya Delgado of Beasley, Abelardo and Georgia Delgado of Stafford and Ramon and Angie Delgado of Blessing; sisters, Connie Dailey of Round Rock and Deanna Shanklin of Jarrell; brother, William “Billy” Nauer of Bastrop.
Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Mary Orsak

Funeral services for Mary Ann Orsak, 76, of East Bernard, were held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Donald Ruppert officiating the Funeral Mass and rite of committal. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard.

Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Orsak, Christopher Mican, Jonathan Mican, Ron Smaistrla, Jason Henry and Jason Zapalac.

Honorary pallbearers were her son-in-law, brothers and brothers-in-law, Michael Mican, Leon Kutach, Adolph Kutach, Eugene Kutach, Ervin Kutach, Stanley Kutach, Daniel Kutach, Graham Ezell, Leroy Pustejovsky, James Stavinoha and Joe Orsak Sr.

Mrs. Orsak was born in El Campo, the daughter of Vencil and Millie Heinrich Kutach. She attended Boling and Burr schools. Mrs. Orsak married Jerry Orsak on Aug. 3, 1947, in Wharton. She worked as a line technician for Texas Instruments for many years before retiring to become a homemaker. She was a member of the KJZT, Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society and Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mrs. Orsak died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at her second home, Avalon Place Nursing Center in Wharton.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Michael Mican and Debbie Orsak; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Joyce Orsak Jr., Allen and Leona Orsak, Pat and Stephanie Orsak and Ronnie Orsak; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sophia and Graham Ezell, Lillie Mae and Leroy Pustejovsky, Evelyn and James Stavinoha; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kutach; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Margie Kutach, Leon and Sylvia Kutach, Adolph and Clara Kutach, Ervin and Virginia Kutach, Stanley and Peggy Kutach and Daniel Kutach; grandchildren, Ashley Orsak, Amber Orsak, Brittany Orsak, Christy Smaistrla, Christopher Mican, Jonathan Mican, Angela Orsak, Matthew Orsak, Mandy Henry, Mindy Orsak and Tiffany Zapalac; great-grandchildren, J.J., Brandon, Brianna Zapalac, Andrew Arceo and Justin Henry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vencil and Millie Kutach; husband, Jerry Orsak Sr.; and brother, V.J. Kutach Jr.

Funeral services were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Wallis.

Elizabeth Michna
Funeral services for Elizabeth Michna, 90, of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Michna died Aug. 6, 2002, in Wharton.

Yvonne Morrison
Lillian Yvonnne Morrison, age 78, of Wharton, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, Gulf Coast Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on Sept. 20, 1923, in Smiley, the daughter of the late Albert Hale Whiddon and Etta Mae Murphree Whidbon.
Mrs. Morrison had been a resident af Whartton since 1930 and was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. She married Cecil Jim Morrison on Oct. 11, 1946, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1967. She worked as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone for 41 1/2 years until her retirement on Dec. 18, I983. One of her favorite past-times was going to garage sales.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hurley offciating. Burial followed in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include her sister, Polly Dalton of Wharton; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers were her nephews and great-nephews Pat Parsons, Burlon Parsons, Shawn Parsons, Travis Parsons, Lee Parsons and David Whaley.
Honorary pallbearers were great-nephews Christopher Krenek, Aaron Mowels and Patrick Parsons.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to College Heights Baptist Church, 1515 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488.

Susie Carter

Funeral services for Susie Lucille Carter, 87, of Wharton, were held Monday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating and Rev. Orville Roberts assisting. Graveside services and interment were held Tuesday at Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio.

Mrs. Carter died Jan. 9, 2004, in Rosenberg. She was born on Jan. 9, 1917, in Del Rio, the daughter of the late C.A. Petty and Lona Ann Yancy Petty.

She was reared in Del Rio and was a graduate of Del Rio High School. Mrs. Carter married James Howard Carter on Nov. 30, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. She lived in Europe and was a resident of various states before moving to Wharton in 1994. Mrs. Carter was employed as an accountant for the San Diego Divers Supply for 10 years before her retirement in 1976. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, James Carter of Wharton; sons and daughters-in-law, Owen and Shirley Beauford of Katy, Sidney and Gwen Beauford of Odem and James and Darla Carter of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur and Ellis Petty.

Edmund Chaka

Edmund Martin Chaka passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. Mr. Chaka was born May 30, 1919, in Louise, the eldest child of Frank and Francis Chaka.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Rilla Chaka of Round Rock; Ron and Kathy Chaka of Wharton; Sid and Cynthia Chaka of Katy; and Thomas Chaka of Richmond. Also, by his grandchildren Travis Chaka and wife, Tanya, of Wharton; Ashley and Brittney Chaka of Wharton; Jason and Kevin Chaka of Katy; David and Kristina Chaka of Round Rock; his great-grandchildren, Shayelynn, Mason, Merek and Blaze Chaka of Wharton; his sister Lillian Chaka Hansen of El Campo, and sister-in-law Evelyn Chaka of Chandler; several nieces, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many, many friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Francis Chaka, his brother, Jerry Chaka, brother-in-law, Robert Hansen, and his wife of 62 years, Zora Doris Klatt Chaka.

He served his country honorably during World War II as part of the 2nd Signal Corps, Second Infantry Division, Eighth Army that fought in Europe and he was discharged with the rank of sergeant. A lifelong resident of Wharton County, he retired from Texas Gulf Sulphur in Newgulf in 1982 after 37 years. Mr. Chaka was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the SPJST and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Boling, where he served as an usher and as purchasing agent for 21 years for the annual church bazaar. He served on the Troop Committee for Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 123 in Newgulf, where three of his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He also served many years as the player agent for the Newgulf Little League and served as treasurer for the school PTA. Mr. Chaka was well-known and well-liked in the community and could always be counted on to pitch in and lend a hand. He and Zora always enjoyed dancing and visiting with family. In his later years he enjoyed traveling, especially to Army reunions, and spending time with his grandchildren.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in El Campo. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in El Campo.

Pallbearers will be Jason Chaka, Kevin Chaka, Travis Chaka, Reid Schroder, Marc Schroder and Jay Schroder.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ismael Amador, Dan Brod, John Dettling Sr., Robert J. Kolacny, Gary Mach, Justin Mach Jr., Howard Plengemeyer, Alvin Rieger, Ruben Rodriquez Sr., Verlie Sherrill, Leland Treybig, Fred Wiesner and all of his former co-workers, neighbors and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Mission, c/o Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Margaret Drapela

Margaret Elizabeth Collins Drapela, 89, of Bay City, “stopped kicking,” or passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Bay City. She was born in Houston on March 23, 1914, to parens John Bernard and Harriet Elizabeth Talley Collins.

Mrs. Drapela married John A. Drapela on Feb. 19, 1936, and they moved to the Bay City area in 1951. She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and served on the Altar Society there for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Matt Dale Rainey, and a son-in-law, Eddie Janise Sr.

She is survived by her five children: Harriet Janise of Wadsworth, Margaret Adele and Mickey Rainey of Needville, Jack Drapela of Houston, Ned and Doris Drapela of Wharton and Mary Olive Drapela of Houston. She is also survived by eight grandsons, Eddie Jr. and Jennifer Janise, Nathan and Pam Janise, Gary Janise, Mitch Rainey and Dan Didonato, Mark and Rhonda Rainey, Mike and Marni Rainey, Ned Jr. and Carol Drapela and John Drapela. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

There will be a wake held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the chapel of Bay City Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of personal choice.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

Maria Erevia

Funeral services for Maria Erevia, 91, of San Antonio, will be held Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was recited Sunday Wharton Funeral Home

Mrs. Erevia died Jan. 8, 2004, following an extended illness. She was born on Feb. 27, 1912, in Olivia, the daughter of the late Lewis Ramirez and Irene Baldarez Ramirez.

She had been a resident of San Antonio for the past six years and was a former longtime resident of Wharton. Mrs. Erevia was married to Vicente Erevia, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1978. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in San Antonio and a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Hector Garza of San Antonio, Lupe Garcia of Wharton, Lucy and Leo Cordova of Manor and Linda and Tom Giddings of Sacramento, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Vicente and Vicky Erevia Jr. of Reno, Nev., Armando Erevia of Houston and Victor and Lenora Erevia of Stafford, Va.; brother, Jesus Ramirez of Angleton; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488.

Francisca Garcia

Funeral services for Francisca Gallegos de Garcia, 91, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 7:15 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Garcia died Jan. 12, 2004, in Wharton. She was born on July 24, 1912, in Mexico, the daughter of the late Cirilo Gallegos and Gerarda Flores Gallegos.

She was a longtime resident of Wharton County having been reared in Glen Flora and having lived in Wharton for most of her life. Mrs. Garcia married Juan Garcia on Nov. 24, 1938, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1957. She was a homemaker and was a former kitchen helper at George’s Restaurant and housekeeper for many years. Mrs. Garcia was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Pablita Gallegos, Lorenza Martinez and Lucia Gallegos; and brothers, Pedro Gallegos, Antonio Gallegos and Abundio Gallegos.

If desiring, memorials may be sent to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Ave., Wharton, TX 77488.

Mary Kimble

Funeral services for Mary Lee Kimble, of Wharton, will be held at noon Thursday at True Holiness Pentecostal Church with Bishop R.A. Waules officiating. Burial will follow in Boones Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, Wednesday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today.

Mrs. Kimble died Jan. 9, 2004, at Kateland Square Geriative Center. She was born in Wharton to Grant and Mary Jackson Armstrong.

Survivors include brothers, Namon Armstrong of Wharton, Hayward Armstrong of Rosenberg and Dave Armstrong of Kendleton; sisters, Rebecca Dickerson of Hungerford, Lolla Mae Autry of Houston and Ann Williams of Richmond.
