Alfred Matura

Funeral services for Alfred Matura, 61, of Lissie, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Dulany Funeral Home in Eagle Lake with Rev. Duane Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow in Lissie Cemetery.

Mr. Matura died Jan. 12, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born at New Taiton on Aug. 27, 1941, to Frank and Ida Mae Davis Matura.

He attended El Campo High School and had been a resident of Lissie since 1971. Mr. Matura married Linda McCage in Bryan on Sept. 22, 1961. He worked for Parker Brothers’ sand and gravel quarries and owned and operated Lissie House Leveling and Moving since 1971. Mr. Matura was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Bernard. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eugene Matura.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda McCage Matura of Lissie; daughter, Kathy Gander of Lissie; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Laura Matura of Lissie, Kirk and Cathie Matura of East Bernard, Kris Matura of Eagle Lake and Kasey Matura of Lissie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence Matura of Bay City, Alton and Jeanette Matura of Lissie, Daniel and Inez Matura of Altair and Frank and Jessie Matura of Mobile, Ala.; 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jeffrie White

Funeral services for Jeffrie White, 78, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Faith Church. Burial will follow at Bowden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Matthews Funeral Home.

Mr. White died Jan. 12, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Wharton County to the late George White and Callie Ray.

He worked as a laborer.

Survivors include wife, Nancy Hilliard White; daughter, Reva Denise Brown; brothers, George White Jr., Alec White, Willie James White, Floyd White and Leroy White; sisters, Bernice Calhoun, Eliza Bailey, Lillian Ruth Heard, Rosie Bell Ward and Mary Armstrong; and three grandchildren.

Ronald Chadwick

Funeral services for Ronald Winfield Chadwick, 49, of Palacios, are pending at Matthews Funeral Home.

Mr. Chadwick died Aug. 18, 2004.

Xzavion Hemphill

Funeral services for Xzavion Hemphill, infant son of Anthony Ray Hemphill and Brenda Yvonne Lee, of Glen Flora, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Matthews Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Xzavion died Aug. 15, 2004, the same day he was born in Galveston.

Survivors include his parents and siblings, Joe Lewis Jr. and TraDavion Lewis.

Christina Mata

Funeral services for Christina C. Mata, 51, of Houston, will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, at Matthews Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Mata died Aug. 18, 2004, at Gulf Coast Specialty Hospital. She was born April 30, 1953, in Kingsville to Raul Cortez and Maria Rodriguez.

She was a dispatcher.

Survivors include sons, Michael Angelo Cortez, Manuel Vela and Javier Vela; siblings, Reymundo Cortez, Raul Cortez Jr., Amelia Gomez, Virginia Castillo, Norma Lemon and Maria Lopez; and one grandchild.

Gloria McAfee

Funeral services for Gloria Anne McAfee, 43, of El Campo, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Bible Truth Apostolic Church in El Campo. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery. Visitation will be at Pilgrim Rest Church in El Campo.

Mrs. McAfee died Aug. 18, 2004, at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She was born Oct. 31, 1960, in El Campo to the late Lincoln McAfee and Mary Carter.

She worked as a nurse.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Alfrecia and Christopher Gaskin; son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Angie Terrell; siblings, Early Haynes, Earlene Randle, Darlene Sampson and Ora Lee Richmond; and four grandchildren.

Sol Lerman

Funeral services for Sol Lerman, 93, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 29, at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut, Houston.

Interment will follow at Shearith Israel Cemetery in Wharton.

A resident of Wharton for many years, Lerman had operated Margie and Lee’s Youth Center here.

Nakomis Vicks

Funeral services for Nakomis Vicks, 50, of Baltimore, Md., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Ms. Vicks died Dec. 25, 2004, as the results of an automobile accident in Rosenberg. She was born May 30, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Dewey C. and Marjorie Owens Bratcher.

She was a school teacher in the Baltimore Public School system.

Survivors include mother, Marjorie Owens Bratcher of Spanish Camp; sons, Jason Vicks and Spencer Vicks, both of Baltimore; brother, Dewey C. Bratcher III of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Anita Bratcher of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Ermis

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Emily Delta Kocurek Ermis, 91, of Jourdanton.
She died Aug. 13, 2006, in Pleasanton.
Mrs. Ermis was the daughter of Joe and Mary Strakos Kocurek.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Hensley, of Jourdanton; a son, Eugene Ermis, of Chicago, Ill.; a grandson and his wife, Luther and Beth Hensley, of Lampasas; and great-grandchildren, Ory, Jacqueline and Paige Hensley.
Mrs. Ermis was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ermis.

Mrs. Siebert

Susan Jane Siebert of Lampasas, formerly of Kansas, died Aug. 14, 2006, at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen. She was 58.
Funeral services are Aug. 18 in Ulysses, Kan., with burial at Golden Cemetery in Ulysses.
Mrs. Siebert was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Garden City, Kan., to William and Helen Robinson Leigh.
She grew up in Kansas and married Waldo Siebert on Aug. 9, 1968.
The family moved to Lampasas two years ago. Mrs. Siebert was a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas.
Survivors include her husband of Lampasas; two daughters, Mechelle Waltner, and husband, Wally, and Marlena Siebert, all of Kansas City; two sons, John Siebert, and wife, Tammy, of Platteville, Colo., and Nathan Siebert, of Kansas City; two brothers, Charles Leigh, of Lampasas, and George Leigh, of Ulysses; one sister, Etta Friesen, of Washington; and five grandchildren, Shelby Siebert, Melissa Waltner, Bryce Siebert, Kevin Siebert and Ashley Siebert.
Mrs. Siebert was preceded in death by her parents.

Wilhemina Dees

Graveside services for Wilhemina Thersia Dees, 86, are scheduled at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, in Pioneer Cemetery with Reverend Edgar Jones of Graham officiating.

Mrs. Dees died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Wharton. She was born April 7, 1916, in Borden to Frank Joe and Sophia Harbus Voitle. She married Jacob Dees Sept. 2, 1938, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1996. Mrs. Dees moved to Graham in 1986 from Boling. She moved back to Wharton in 1996. Mrs. Dees was a Baptist and a homemaker.

Survivors include; daughters, Mary Ann Berroth of Freeport and Marlene Yvonne Soles of Wharton; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis Dees in 1994 and Kenneth Dees in 2000.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home in Graham.

Robert Hodge

Robert J. Hodge Sr., age 89, of Pledger, died Jan. 2, 2003, in a Richmond hospital. Funeral services are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.

Hank Koym

Funeral services for Henry “Hank” Koym, 69, of East Bernard, will be at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at First United Methodist Church in East Bernard with Rev. Michael Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in the East Bernard Methodist Cemetery in East Bernard.

Mr. Koym was born in Wallis to parents Henry Koym and Lena Sabrusula in 1933. He was reared in the Wallis and East Bernard areas. Mr. Koym attended school in East Bernard, Texas A&M and graduated from Sam Houston State University. He worked in the agriculture business all his life helping run the family feed store and then selling agricultural products. Mr. Koym was very active in the Wharton County Youth Fair and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He also was a member of the Masons, the Shriners, and The Order of the Eastern Star. During his life he received many awards, including being inducted into the Shrine Legion of Honor and being named the Masonic Man of the Year and being an ambassador to the Colorado Valley Shrine Club. Mr. Koym was also active in the Texas Ag Lime Association and the Texas Organic Growers Association. He was also a past president of the East Bernard Chamber of Commerce. He married Melba Hughes on March 1, 1997, in Galveston. Mr. Koym died on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, in East Bernard.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Koym of East Bernard; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Tim Austin of Eagle Lake; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Carolyn Koym of Lubbock; sister, Joy Balderach of Houston; and brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Janice Koym of Aransas Pass. He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Lena Koym; wife, Arlene Koym; and brother Glen Koym.

Elma Longmire

Elma Louise “Sis” Longmire, age 95, of Bonus passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Wharton following an extended illness. She was bom Sept. 14, 1907, in Eagle Lake, to the late Thomas Sanders Harris and Mattie Ussery Harris.

She married George Mason Longmire on Oct. 7, 1927, in Eagle Lake. The couple lived in Fort Worth until 1940, then they moved to the Bonus community. Mrs. Longmire was a very active member in the Bonus Baptist Church. She also belonged to the Wharton County Demonstration Club, Canasta Club, Community Sewing Club and the Eagle Lake Garden Club. She worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Mathews General Store, Parker’s Variety Store, Priesmeyer’s Department Store and as a housewife.

Mrs. Longmire was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mattie Harris; husband, George Mason Longmire; sisters, Hattie Hazel Carter and Velma Lorena Sauers; and brother, Clyde Thomas Harris.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Joy Dromgoole; and grandchildren, Mack Wade Dromgoole, Dena Shea Gammill and LeShon Dromgoole, all of Bonus.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Dulany Funeral Home in Eagle Lake with Reverend Ken Temple officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Side Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mack Wade Dromgoole, Ari Gammill, Francis Krenek, Phillip Krenek, Jason Waller and John Waller.
