Virgil L. Palmer

Virgil L. Palmer, 70, of Port Neches died April 6, 2001, at his residence.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Broussard’s in Nederland with burial at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

A native of Groves, he lived in the Port Neches area most of his life and was a retired Texaco Inc. maintenance supervisor and U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Palmer of Port Neches; sons, Allen L. Palmer and Scott Palmer, both of Austin, and Monty Palmer of Port Neches; Eric C. Palmer of Port Neches; sister, Jackie Black of Beaumont; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 4000 Grant, Groves, Texas 77619 or to Hospice of Texas, 3821 Stagg Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

Romain ‘Sonny Boy’ J. Patin

Romain "Sonny Boy" J. Patin, 74, of Port Arthur died April 6, 2001, at his residence.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native and lifelong resident of Port Arthur, he was a retired Texaco operator and World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Una Guillory Patin of Port Arthur; daughters, Sandy Reed and DeAnna Hudson, both of Hamshire, Theresa Edwards of Vidor, Michelle Williams of Katy and Marcella Whaley of Nederland; son, Rickey Patin of Port Neches; and 12 grandchildren.

Dorcena Poullard

Dorcena Poullard, 86, of Beaumont died April 5, 2001, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with burial at Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Community Funeral Chapel on Irma Street. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Monday with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

A native of Louisiana, she lived in Beaumont and was a retired homemaker.

Survivors include sons, John Poullard and Edward Poullard, both of Beaumont, Paul Poullard and Anthony Poullard, both of Houston, and Daniel Poullard of Fairfield, Calif.; daughters, Theresa Fontenot, Grace Broussard, Elizabeth Mouton, Winnie Granger and Dorothy Fontenot, all of Beaumont, and Catherine Shackleford of Houston; brothers, Lawrence LaFleur of Winnie and Howard Daigle of Lake Charles, La.; sisters, Florence Lewis and Lena Kelly, both of Houston, Lucille Holton of Nevada City, Calif., Louisa Francois of Eunice, La., and Pearl Miller of Winnie; 34 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

Hernando Ramos

Hernando Ramos, 57, of Vidor died April 7, 2001, in Beaumont.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidor with burial at Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Cali, Venezuela, he lived in Vidor 30 years and was a retired Rand Oil Co. maintenance employee.

Survivors include sons, Hernando Ramos Jr. of Vidor and Carlos Ramos of Lumberton; daughter, Tammy Hester of Vidor; brothers, Albrao Ramos of Beaumont and Oscar Ramos of Venezuela; sisters, Marina Payan, Josefa Munoz and Lupe Jones, all of Beaumont, and Rosa Payan and Estrella Tellez, both of Venezuela; and three grandchildren.

Myrel F. Rogers

Myrel F. Rogers, 78, of DeRidder, La., died April 5, 2001, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder with burial at Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Gladewater, he lived in DeRidder and was a retired federal Civil Service mechanic and World War II veteran.

Survivors include his brother, Benny Rogers of Gladewater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Cypress Cemetery Building Fund or to a charity of choice.

Shawn Wade Thomason

Shawn Wade Thomason, 18, of Chester died April 5, 2001, in Polk County.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chester High School Gymnasium under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Chester. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Galveston, he lived in Chester all his life and was a senior at Chester High School.

Survivors include his parents, William P. Thomason and Charlane Waters Thomason of Chester; brothers, Billy Thomason, Shane Thomason and Wesley Thomason, all of Chester; sister, Chellie Thomason of Chester; grandparents, Willie Simons of Splendora and Lana Waters of Houston; and stepgrandmother, Chrystal Simons of Splendora.

Jessie Mae Ward

Jessie Mae Ward, 80, of Pineland died April 5, 2001, at Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home.

A native of Sabine County, she lived in Jasper and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Homer Ray Ward of Port Arthur; daughters, Ruby Jacobs of Pineland and Shirley Brown and Lillie Rousse, both of Hemphill; brothers, Chester Boaz of Kansas, Arvil Boaz of Pineland, Dorman Boaz of Texas and Elic Boaz of Beaumont; sister, Dorothy Jones of Lumberton; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frances Sarah Wolf

Frances Sarah Wolf, 72, of Port Arthur died April 7, 2001, at Doctors Hospital in Groves.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and continues Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Browndell, she lived in Port Arthur many years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Walter C. Wolf of Port Arthur; daughter, Frances Louise Wolf of Port Arthur; son, Ricky Lynn Wolf of Houston; sister, Lou Nell England of Monticello, Ark.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Beasley

Johnnie Beasley, 80, of Sam Rayburn died April 5, 2001, at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Jasper with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.

A native of Center and a former resident of Jasper, he lived in Rayburn Country six years, was a Phillips Petroleum seismographer and DMI employee in Rayburn Country and served in the Civil Air Patrol.

Survivors include his wife, Phillis Beasley of Sam Rayburn; stepson, Charles Warren of Lincoln Park, Mich.; stepdaughters, Yvonne Rhoads of Belleville, Mich., Mary Konarski and Tammy Kalicki, both of Allen Park, Mich., and Wendi Gossett of White Lake, Mich.; sisters, Ethel Wilson of Center, Evon Toomlin of Nederland and Jean Castro of Beaumont; 13 stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1598, Jasper, Texas 75951 or Brookeland Masonic Lodge No. 935, P.O. Box 10, Brookeland, Texas 75931.

Pearl Leviness Breazeale

Pearl Leviness Breazeale, 80, of Hartburg died April 4, 2001, at Texas Medical Center Hospice in Houston.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at King Cemetery in Hartburg under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A lifelong resident of Hartburg, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Wilshire and Glenda Christ, both of Houston; brother, Jeff Leviness of Beaumont; grandchildren, Joseph Emmette Wilshire of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Thomas David Wilshire and Kimberly Kay Noakes, both of Houston; and six great-grandchildren.

John Curtis Glenn

John Curtis Glenn, 18, of Silsbee died April 5, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at North Hardin Baptist Church in Hardin with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation was Friday at the family residence.

A native and longtime resident of Silsbee, he was a laborer.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Betty and Paul Peppenhorst of Silsbee; father, J.C. Glenn of Silsbee; brothers, Jason Drake of Silsbee and Robert Glenn of Fred; sisters, Betty McDermand of League City and Judy Edmondson of Hull; and grandmothers, Athalee Willis and Betty Peppenhorst, both of Silsbee, and Mary West of Call.

Lorenza Granger

Lorenza Granger, 98, of Port Arthur died April 5, 2001, at Gaspard’s Nursing Center.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur with burial at Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Rayne, La., she lived in Port Arthur more than 70 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Lillie Mae Mingo of Port Arthur; son, Robert Sterling of Houston; sister, Adaline Locksey of Rayne; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Adele L. Hardy

Adele L. Hardy, 87, of Groves died April 5, 2001, in Groves.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Groves with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A wake service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A native of Lafayette, La., she lived in Groves 59 years.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph E. Hardy of Groves; son, Francis Paul Hardy of Groves; grandchildren, Martin Paul Hardy of Groves and Michael Paul Hardy of Nederland; and great-grandchild, Joseph Edwin Hardy.

Marie Atwood Jernigan

Marie Atwood Jernigan, 75, of China died April 6, 2001, at College Street Nursing Center.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Broussard’s on Major Drive with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

A native of Center, she lived in the Amelia area most of her life.

Survivors include sons, Freddy Atwood and James Atwood, both of Beaumont; daughter, Sherry Shell of China; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Amelia Baptist Church, 8055 Brighton Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77707.
