Ida Mae Douglass Thomason

Ida Mae Thomason, 92, a life-long resident of Brown County, died quietly in her home on March 29, 2004, after a battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ruben Packer, neighbor and friend, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 this evening, March 31, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thomason was born on Oct. 6, 1911, in Blanket, to N. B. "Duke" Douglass and Mary Switzer Douglass. She grew up between Blanket and Zephyr and attended school at Baird Hill, Zephyr and Brownwood. After graduating from Brownwood High School in 1928, she attended Daniel Baker College and Howard Payne College. She met and later married Worth Thomason on Dec. 31, 1931, at the Presbyterian Manse in Brownwood. Her life was spent raising her children, helping with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with providing for her family, she kept books for her husband's drilling, farming and ranching operations as well as being a devoted member and worker of the Austin Avenue and Union Presbyterian Church.

Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Worth Thomason; her parents; one great-grandchild, Ryan Fisher in 1981 and her only brother, Bryon Douglass in 1990.

She is survived by one son, Wade Thomason and wife, Editha and one daughter, Barbara Tongate and husband, Gene, all of Brownwood; six grandchildren, Donna Wilson and husband, Paul, Ann Turner and husband, Bob, Terry Thomason and wife, Elaine, Royce Thomason and wife, Cindy and Richard "Dick" Tongate all of Brownwood and Brown County and Sheena Fisher and husband, John, of Killeen. She was blessed by nine great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, as well as one great-great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Memorials may be made to your favorite charity if you wish.

Bobbye Jean Collett

Funeral services for Bobbye Jean Collett, 75, of Coleman were held at 11 a.m. today, March 31, at the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Interment followed in the Burkett Cemetery with Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Collett died at 3:55 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Coleman County Medical Center.

She was born in Burkett on January 19, 1929, to the late R. T. and Nanie Godwin Watson.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Mac Connelly of Coleman and Chris Connelly of Burkett; sister, Pasty Hill of Van, Texas; two brothers, Jake Watson of Mineral Wells and Jack Watson of Burkett and six grandsons.

Thelma L. Pillow

Mrs. Thelma L. Pillow, 92, of Merkel, passed away on March 28, 2004, at her residence.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1911, the daughter of the late Marvin and Rethea Steed Lundy. She married Evenard Pillow on June 11, 1932, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1980. Thelma was a retired homemaker and a member of the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Glen (Joyce) Hornsberger of Sweetwater, Mrs. Marion (Alice) Garrett of DeSoto, Mrs. Bill (Retha) Murphy of Carson City and Mrs. Karol (Judy) Davis; one son, Mr. Charles Pillow and wife, Sandy, of Willow Park; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by one son, Randy Pillow.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 31, at the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church in Abilene with Brother Leverton officiating. Interment will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Christopher Neal Forrest

DALLAS -- After a long valiant battle with cancer, Christopher went home to his Lord on Monday, March 29, 2004, at Medical City Dallas Hospital. He will be deeply missed.

Chris graduated from Richardson High School in 1992 where he played in the Golden Eagle Band. Chris's love of music was with him from high school band days through UTA orchestra and into the professional bands, OHM and Life, Space, Death, heard locally as well as overseas. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he majored in computer engineering. He was on the Dean's List, a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and graduated Magnum cum Laude in 2000. While in school, Chris designed and installed various computer systems from Saudi pipelines to Korean company systems. After graduation he worked on wireless communication designs for Nortel Networks.

Chris is survived by his parents, J.B. Forrest and Mary, of Richardson and Sheryl Forrest Bellamy and Ray, of Rowlett; sister Leslie Gajak and nephews Cody and Parker of McKinney; sister Kelli Petty and Lynn of Denton; fiancee Jo Phillips of Fort Worth and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, stepbrothers and stepsisters, friends, neighbors and loved ones. Local survivors include Pam and Roger Willson and family of Brookesmith and Larry Cornelius and family of Brownwood. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Barbara Thomas of Brownwood and Dorothy Allen of Early.

A memorial service will be held at at 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 2, at the Transfiguration Episcopal Church in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial donations to the American Cancer Society. Peace and God's blessings to all.

Luz Comparini Ruiz

SAN ANTONIO -- Luz Comparini Ruiz born on May 29, 1912, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Central America, died March 27, 2004, in Brownwood.

Mrs. Ruiz lived in San Antonio for 30 years and resided at Oakridge Manor in Brownwood for the last eight years. She loved participating in all kinds of activities, dedicated her life to serving others and loved her family and friends very much.

Luz is survived by sisters, Concha Verastique, Chus Munoz and Catalina C. Luna; brothers, Salvador Comparini and Rafa Comparini; son, Marco Ruiz; daughter-in-law, Orfa Ruiz; grandchildren, David Ruiz, Marco Ruiz and Carl Ruiz; eight great-grandchildren, Anthony Ruiz, Cristopher Ruiz, Alexandra Ruiz, Ashley M. Ruiz, Antonio Ruiz, Angelo Ruiz, Kayla Ruiz and Brittany Ruiz and many nieces, nephews and extended family members in Texas, Florida, Maryland and Guatemala, Central America.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Luna, Jorge Comparini, Norman Comparini, Travis Luna, Charlie Comparini and Joe Verastique. Honorary pallbearers were Salvador Comparini and Marco Ruiz.

Visitation was held at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 29, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 30 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Interment followed in the Colonial Chapel Hill Memorial Park under the direction of Trevino Funeral Home of San Antonio.

John Laurence Pierce

Funeral services for John Laurence Pierce, 80, of San Saba, were held at 10 a.m. today, March 31, at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Brand officiating. Interment followed in the San Saba City Cemetery under the direction of Howell-Doran Funeral Home.

Mr. Laurence died Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Midland.

He was born May 5, 1923 in San Saba, the son of "C" and Annie Pierce.

He is survived by one son, Charles Pierce of Midland; two daughters, Sandra Watkins of Midland and Karen Scholdt of Carlsbad, N.M.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Chaney of Clifton, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, "C" and Annie Pierce; three brothers, Berry Pierce of San Saba, Ben Pierce and Bill Pierce of Clifton; one sister, Jewel Riggs of San Saba and one grandson of Midland.

Marguerite "Mathews" Brown

Funeral services for Marguerite "Mathews" Brown, 91, of Bangs, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Concord Baptist Church near Bangs with the Revs. Paul Blake and Brad Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at a Bangs Nursing home.

She was born in Eugene, Ore. on Feb. 16, 1913, the daughter of the late William and Nora Carter Mathews. On Sept. 19, 1936, she married John Daymon Brown in Alpine, Texas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1979. She was a homemaker and farmers aid. Marguerite was a Christian and attended the Concord Baptist Church of Bangs. She had been a resident of Brown County since 1949, formerly of Alpine.

Survivors include her nephew, Thomas J. Mathews of Portland, Ore. and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daymon Brown; her parents, William and Nora Mathews and one brother, Thomas J. Mathews Sr.

Memorials may be made to the Concord Baptist Church.

Ray Nell "Sis" Gary Duncan

CROSS PLAINS -- Funeral services for Ray Nell "Sis" Gary Duncan will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Craig Churchill officiating. Interment will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains.

Mrs. Duncan died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Hendrick Medical Center.

She was born on Nov. 16, 1930, in Callahan County, the daughter of Loyd Bentley and Mary Lee Green Gary.

Survivors include her husband, Red Duncan of Cleburne; sons, Larry Duncan and Elmer Duncan, both of Cleburne and Chris Duncan of Clyde; daughters, Margie Duncan of Cleburne and Wanda Marsh, Mary St. Peter and Martha Jones, all of Cross Plains; brothers, Bill Gary and A. B. Gary, both of Cisco, D. A. Gary of Cross Plains, Tommy Gary of Harrah, Okla., and J. L. Gary of Bloomfield, N.M.; sisters, Virginia Stoker of Bedford, Joann Marton of Cisco and Joyce Marton of Admiral; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Juanell "Nell" Maxwell Coats

COMANCHE -- Juanell "Nell" Maxwell Coats died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in the Comanche Community Hospital.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date at the Hall and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche.

She was born on April 18, 1934, in the Hardin Community of Coleman, the daughter of the late Curtis Clinton Maxwell and Mildred Louise Boyd Maxwell.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Coats of Dublin; mother, Mildred Maxwell of Odessa; three daughters, Laura Satterfield of Euless, Catherine Kelton of Midland and Jennifer James of Rotan; one son, George Coats of Amarillo; two sisters, Louise Nichols and Norma Joyce Dyer, both of Odessa; and one brother, Glen Edward Maxwell of Odessa.

Davin Bjorn Holmberg

WEST COVINA, CALIF. -- Davin Bjorn Holmberg, 17, was born on Oct. 1, 1986, in Bangs and returned to the Lord on March 28, 2004, peacefully at his home in Alta Loma, Calif.

He is survived by his father, Clifford Holmberg; mother, Deborah Kovac Holmberg; sisters, Melody and Valerie Holmberg; his dog Toby; grandparents, Barbara Holmberg of Bangs and Luis and Nelly Kovac; uncles Scot Holmberg of Bangs, Eric Kovac, Larry Everette, Richard Stacey, Scott Winders and Dale Seaburg; aunts, Kathy Everette, Chris Stacey, Monica Winders and Margaret Holmberg; cousins, Tamaleah, David, Jonathan and Beth Everette, Jennifer and Joshua Stacey and Stephanie Holmberg of Bangs. He is also survived by many friends and relatives from Bolivia and all over the world. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Glen Holmberg and cousin Candi Holmberg.

Davin was bright, giving and caring and had a good sense of humor. He was a gentle steward of the Lord and was an active member of his high school Bible group at church. Like his parents, who were missionaries when Davin was growing up, he enjoyed bringing the "Good News" to everyone. He lived in Bangs for four years before moving to Bolivia, Washington, Spain, Northern California, and Southern California. He was a junior at Alta Loma High School in California, where he enjoyed Cisco Certified Networking Administrator (CCNA), business law, history, and ceramics classes. His interests included track, cross-country running, swimming, skeet and trap shooting, XBOX and computer games. Davin will be missed by all and will live in our hearts forever, until we see him again in heaven.

A family celebration of his life will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2004, at the Faith Community Church in West Covina, Calif.

Billy Eugene Raby

DE LEON -- Funeral services for Billy Eugene Raby, 78, of De Leon, were held at 11 a.m. today, April 1, at the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel in De Leon with the Rev. Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Interment , with graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, April 1, in the Cleburne Rosehill Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Mr. Raby died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in the De Leon Hospital.

He was born on May 10, 1925, in Cleburne, Texas, the son of the late Tom Raby and Myra Bates Raby. He married Juanita Hulsey on Nov. 5, 1973, in Fort Worth. He was a retired clerk for a wholesale florist company and had lived in De Leon since 1990, previously of Fort Worth. He was a member of the De Leon First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Raby of De Leon; several nieces, nephews and his "good buddy" Nadine Cook of Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Juanell "Nell" Maxwell Coats

COMANCHE -- Memorial services for Juanell "Nell" Coats, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Hall and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with the Rev. John Boone officiating.

Mrs. Coats died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in the Comanche Community Hospital.

Dorothea E. Whisenant

ROCKWOOD -- Graveside services for Dorothea E. Whisenant, 76, of Rockwood, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, in the Rockwood Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Dean officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening, April 2, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whisenant died at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the Bangs Nursing Home.

Dorothea Elizabeth Longenecker was born on July 2, 1927, in Fredick, Md. to the late John David and Florence Virginia Smith Longenecker.

Survivors include her husband, Guy Whisenant of Rockwood; daughter, Patricia Lambert of Tampa, Fla.; son, James Paul Fraser of Brownwood; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

D W "Mickey" Little Jr.

Funeral services for D W "Mickey" Little Jr., 53, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 5, 2004, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel wuth the Rev. Dave Fair officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. this afternoon at the funeral home.

Mickey passed away on Friday, April, 2, 2004.

He was born on March 6, 1951, in Brownwood to D W "Red" and Jerlene Little. He was a graduate of Brownwood High School. Mickey was a loyal and dedicated employee of Holley Chevrolet for 34 years, where he operated the wrecker service for more than 30 of those years. He was a Baptist.

Mickey is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Christina Little and a grandson, the joy of his life, David Wayne Little, all of Lake Brownwood; his mother, Jerlene Little of Brownwood; two sisters, Sandra Gosnell and her husband, Darrell, of Early and Linda Ainsworth and her husband, Sam, of Pinerville, La; three brothers, Raymond Price and his wife, Linda, of Abilene; Mike Price and his wife, Pat, of Brownwood and Marcus Little, also of Brownwood. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, Suzie Clark of Abilene, Clifford Price of Oklahoma, Todd Price, Jerrod Price and Cammy Schwing, all of Brownwood; Kenneth Gosnell and Shayla Winn, both of Early; Brit Ainsworth of Beaumont and Laura Nelson of Colorado City and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Mickey was preceded in death by his father D W "Red" Little and his grandparents, Raymon and Velma Lawson.

Inez Connaway Jones

Graveside services for Inez Connaway Jones, 99, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at the Cedar Point Cemetery in Brown County with the Rev. R. J. Elkins officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Mrs. Jones died Monday, April 5, 2004, at a Brownwood nursing home.

She was born May 14, 1904, in Brown County to the late W. S. Will and Laura Connaway. She married Thomas Lyle Jones in Brown County. He preceded her in death. She was a long-time employee of Texas Feathers and a homemaker. She was a member of the Brookesmith Baptist Church and had been a resident of Brown County all of her life.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Cooper of Brownwood and Patsy Brown and husband, James, of Hockley; one son, Dale and wife, Glenda, Jones of Early and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Murice "Bill" Jones; two daughters, Leotta Byrd Handy and Shirley Ann Jones; three brothers and three sisters.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight, April 6, at the funeral home.

Johnny Lee Cate

Funeral services for Johnny Lee Cate, 76, of Brownwood, are pending with the Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Cate died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Thelma Gilma Medford

Graveside services for Thelma Gilma Medford, 101, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. today. Burial will be in Rising Star Cemetery under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Mrs. Medford died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 24, 1902, in De Leon, to S. J. Hudnall and Sara Bertha (Speer) Hudnall. She married Parker Lonzo "Lon" Medford on Jan. 27, 1923, in Carbon. He preceded her in death in June of 1979.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ted Ray and Wadalee Medford of Abilene and James Stanley and Charlene Medford of Comanche; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldene Medford.
