Margaret Lue Dixon

Funeral services for Margaret Lue Dixon, 88, of Brownwood, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Dr. Art Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Point Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dixon died April 7, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Margaret was born on March 15, 1916, in Abilene, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maggie Pardue Heleman. She married J. W. Dixon in Abilene on May 29, 1937. She was a retired State School employee and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She had lived in Brownwood since 1956.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn F. Banta and husband, Riley, of Brownwood; two sons, Wayland Dixon and wife, Nevelyn, of Brownwood and Harold Dixon also of Brownwood; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maggie Pardue Heleman; her husband; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Edgar Greaves

COLEMAN -- Mr. Edgar Greaves, 85, of Abilene, passed away April 7, 2004, at the Abilene Regional Medical Center.

The son of the late Earl and Dora McBride Greaves, he was born on March 12, 1919, in Coleman County at Camp Colorado. On Feb. 12, 1942, he married Dorthy Wade in Coleman County. She preceded him in death in 1998. A resident of Coleman County nearly all of his life, Ed was retired from the U.S. Corps of Engineers, a veteran of World War II and a Baptist.

He is survived by one daughter, Anita Foster and husband, Steve, of Abilene; one son, Dale Greaves and wife, Becky, of Coleman; three sisters, Geneva Baxter of Talpa, Nellie Royall of Dublin and Wanda Baxter of Hawley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Pamela and Tom Wolinski of Santa Fe, N.M.; Cindy and Joe Herridge of Fort Worth; Dusty and Kristi Greaves of Coleman; David and Marla Foster of Eastland; and Stephanie and Stacey Johnson of Abilene. Great-grandchildren include, Sofia Wolinski of Santa Fe, N.M.; Gabriele Herridge of Fort Worth; Shelbi, Kade and Blake Greaves of Coleman; Skye and Brynna Foster of Eastland; and Payton and Atley Johnson of Abilene. Ed was preceded in death by his four brothers, Clifford, Mark, Raymond and Leslie Greaves.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening, April 9, at the funeral home.

Lilburn Morgan

Funeral services for Lilburn Morgan, 77, of Fort Worth, formerly of Burkett, are pending with Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman. Mr. Morgan died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at a Fort Worth nursing home.

Pascual A. Ramos

Funeral services for Pascual A. Ramos, 74, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the funeral home.

Mr. Ramos died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 4, 1930, in Clarksville. He was married to Maria Ramirez on July 26, 1952, in Mason. He was a member of the Pentecostal church and he was a farmer and mechanic. He had lived in Brownwood for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Ramos of Brownwood; eight children, Pascual Ramos Jr. and wife Calina of St. Teresa, N.M., Estela Ramos of Lamesa, Angela Ramos of Kerrville, Rachael Ramos and husband Manuel of Lamesa, Armando Ramos of Brownwood, Matthew Ramos of Brownwood, Connie Pierce and husband Joe Bob of Brownwood and Judy Ramos of Galveston; six grandchildren, James Swinney, Robert Swinney, Andrea Ramos, Neomi Ramos, Rebecca Ramos and Joshua Ramos; three great-grandchildren, Josh Swinney, Lilly Swinney and Nathan Ramos; one sister, Frances Castillo and husband Victor; and four brothers, George Ramos, David Ramos, Francisco Hernandes and Jack Hernandes.

Tony Alan Smith

Funeral services for Tony Alan Smith, 47, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home with David Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at his home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1956, in Brownwood and lived all his life there. He was married to Christy Layne McDowell in Brownwood on Oct. 17, 1981. He was a licensed vocational nurse and a member of the Texas State Guard. He was a member of Fourth and Stewart Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Christy Smith of Brownwood; one daughter, Ashley Smith and fiance, Albert Salazar, of Corpus Christi; one son, Todd Alan Smith of Cross Plains; father, Alan Buford Smith of Brownwood; one sister, Kim Cross and Jerry of Irving; one brother, Shane Smith and Sandy of Wichita Falls; in-laws, Robert and Jean McDowell of Brownwood; three aunts, Iva Dotson of Brownwood, Maxine Carter of Blanket and Virginia Barton of Manor; one uncle, Harold Dempsey of Lingleville; numerous cousins; and many beloved friends

Myrtle Savage

COLEMAN -- Funeral services for Myrtle Savage, 90, of Coleman, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery.

Mrs. Savage died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at a Brownwood nursing home.

She was born Myrtle Genave Carter on April 21, 1914, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Asbury and Mamie Johnson Carter. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and attended school there. She was married to Byrd Savage and he preceded her in death. In April 1974 Myrtle moved to Coleman and has lived here since that time. She was a housewife and attended the Church of the Nazarene in Coleman.

She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Savage; a grandson, Darren Fleet; and four brothers.

Survivors include her children, Mildred Fleet of Baltimore, Md., Janice Stewart and husband Ernest of Coleman and Edward Carter and wife Sharon of Austin; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; six brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

J.B. Scott

DE LEON -- Services for J.B. Scott, 87, of Brownwood and formerly of DeLeon, are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Jackie Auvenshine and Pastor Jeff Burnett will officiate. Burial will follow in Sandhill Cemetery at DeLeon.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Scott died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born April 3, 1917 in Carlsbad, N.M., the son of John R. Scott and Betty Mae Clements Scott. He married Fanny Mae Dupriest on April 15, 1942 in DeLeon. He was a retired farmer and rancher and was a member of the DeLeon First Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the 36th Infantry of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Fanny M. Scott; one son, Sam Scott of Irving; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Butts of Brownwood; a brother, W.R. Scott of Kerrville; three sisters, Donnie Brownlee of DeLeon, Robbye Stokes of Alpine and Betty Burnett of Hurst; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dale Scott, Curtis E. Scott and Charles Scott.

The family has requested memorials be made to Camelot Unit of Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Jose Luis Acevedo

Jose Luis Acevedo, 56, of Brownwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in Brownwood.

He was born Nov. 9, 1948, in LaLuz, Coahuila, Mexico. He had lived in Brownwood 19 years and was Pentecostal. He was a retired demolition specialist in the oilfield industry. He was married to Bertha Castillo in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico.

Mr. Acevedo will lie in state at Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Friday and Saturday. He will then be returned to Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico for his funeral service and burial in the Villa Union Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Acevedo, of Brownwood; mother, Maria deJesus Acevedo of San Antonio; three daughters, Brenda Acevedo of Brownwood, America Acevedo and Ismael of Brownwood and Thelma Duran and Leo of Poteet; two grandchildren, Leo Duran III of Poteet and Alexia Sosa of Brownwood; four sisters, Juana Acevedo of Mexico, Rosa Maria Acevedo of Mexico, Sylvia Acevedo of Dallas and Mineld Acevedo of Dallas; and two brothers, Nico Acevedo of San Antonio and Roberto Acevedo of San Antonio.

Erwin Zea 'E.Z.' Casey

COLEMAN -- Funeral services for Erwin Zea "E.Z." Casey, 98, of Greenville, formerly of Coleman County, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Casey died at his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004.

He was born Oct. 15, 1906, in Coleman County, a son of William Cap Casey and Mary Catherine McCulloch Casey.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Harvey Loyd Casey and Ervin Eugene Casey, long-time caregiver and companion, Berry James, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances Baker of Blanket, Patsy Hampton and husband Ron of Abilene and Linda Gayle Howell of Greenville; two sons, Larry Casey and wife Wyvetta of Grosvenor and Jimmy Casey of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Lorean Casey of Coleman and Mable Garrett; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Opal Swinney McHouell

DE LEON -- Funeral services for Opal Swinney McHouell, 90, of De Leon, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Interment will follow in De Leon Cemetery.

Mrs. McHouell died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in De Leon Nursing and Rehab.

She was born March 1, 1914, in Comanche County, the daughter of the late Harlan and Julia Stephenson Martin. She was married to Robert Swinney on Jan. 16, 1935, at Rock Bluff. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1983. She later married O.T. McHouell on April 5, 1984, in Early. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1995.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Dewayne Swinney, and four brothers, Frank, Herman, Joseph, and A.J. Martin.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances Keith and Carolyn Swinney of De Leon and Martha Guthery of Gorman; one son, Roy Swinney of De Leon; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Anna Mai McColl

Anna Mai McColl, 102, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at a Yukon health care facility after a short period of declining health. She was born July 20, 1902, in Macon, Miss. to Felix and Ella Nora (Eichelberger) Grace. She grew up in Macon and moved with her mother to Austin as a teenager. She graduated from high school and attended business college in Austin. After marriage she made her home in Brownwood for forty-five years before returning to make her home in Austin. While being a fabulous mother and grandmother, she was very active in church and civic work and was very well known for growing beautiful iris. She had been a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, being active at Central UMC in Brownwood and St. Johns UMC in Austin. In 1995 she, along with her sister Mabel, moved to Mustang, Okla. to be near her son and his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James; daughter Eleanor Barbee; one brother Henry; and two sisters Myrtle and Mabel.

Survivors include one son Jim McColl and wife Lynda of Mustang; a son-in-law Fred Barbee and wife Peggy of El Campo; six grandchildren Chris, David and Karen Barbee, Stephany Trammell, Debbie McColl and Jana Mallard; and eight great-grandchildren Jonathan, Julie, Ashley, Airen, Trent, Brent, Toni and Payton.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service of Mustang, Okla.

Ann White Davis

Funeral services for Ann White Davis, 82, of Brownwood, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Steve McMeans officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

She died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at her home.

She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Coppell, the daughter of the late George W. and Zeda Elizabeth Hodges Thompson. She was married to George W. White on Jan. 12, 1946, in Lewisville. He preceded her in death in Nov. 1980. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and had retired as a receptionist for Dr.'s Coleman and Cutbirth. She had lived in Brownwood since 1946.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly White Templin and husband Wille of Fort Worth; a son, Tome White and wife Pat of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Brandy White West and husband Reed of Hurst and Todd Templin and wife Heather of Fort Worth; and four great-grandchildren, Blake, Garrett and Hunt Templin and Elizabeth Ann West.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to favorite charities.

Julia Byrd

CROSS PLAINS -- Fun-eral services for Julia Byrd, 93, of Bangs, formerly of Cross Cut, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel with Gary Hounshell officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Cut Cemetery.

Mrs. Byrd died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in the Bangs Nursing Home.

She was born March 1, 1911, in Brown County, to Chris and Allie (Byrd) Hounshell. She was married to Jake Byrd on Sept. 2, 1976, in Brownwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Hannah Payne of Bangs; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Legg of Longview; two brothers, Milton Hounshell of Electra and J.C. Hounshell of Lufkin; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jewel Gilder Wall Lee

DE LEON -- Funeral services for Jewel Gilder Wall Lee, 89, of De Leon, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Neslony officiating. Interment will follow in De Leon Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lee died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

She was born April 1, 1915, in Eastland County, the daughter of the late George H. Gilder and Rhoda M. George Gilder. She was married to Clyde Wall and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1963. She was married to Dillard Lee on March 30, 1968, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1982. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jean Kirk.

Survivors include one son, Bob Wall of De Leon; one daughter, Pat Wall of Fort Worth; one step-son, Charles Lee of Midland; one step-daughter, Jan Jones of Dublin; three sisters, Maxine Vaughn, Doris Dupriest and Foncille Roling of Brownwood; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
