Horace Jennings

HORACE JENNINGS passed away on September 9, 2008 after living most of his life in Houston. After graduation from Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and Ross Volunteers he entered the United States Army and served during WW II where he rose to the rank of Captain. He was bound for landings in Japan when the war in the Pacific ended and he was diverted to the Philippines where he in 1946 mustered at Corregidor. He mustered at College Station 50 years later. After the war, Horace returned to Houston to raise his family with his beloved Miriam who predeceased him after 49 years of marriage. Horace was a man who had many friends. He lived his last few years at Clarewood House with a number of new friends and the assistance of Dorothy Rhodes, his caregiver, whose attention and concern became an important part of his life. Horace is survived by his children Betsy, Gray and Paul Jennings, his daughters in law Arbolina and Bobbi, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. We will miss him

Delora W. Berry, 91, bornon August 22, 1917 in Madison, Alabama passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 in Houston, Texas. Delora will be missed by his family and friends.

Drew Anne Lord MacWilliam

DREW ANNE LORD MACWILLIAM passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 with her children at her side. She fought an inspirational battle with pancreatic cancer for 14 months with her family supporting her every step of the way. She was born in Montclair, New Jersey, January 8, 1938 to her parents, Faith Evelyn Wiggins and Andrew James Lord. She attended The Madeira School and Bennett College. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Andrew James Lord Jr., and her husband William Emerson Wright. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Gaillard MacWilliam Brown and her husband Philip Minor Brown; her son James Donald MacWilliam III and his wife Paula Story; her son Payson Lord MacWilliam and his wife Kelley Archer; her son Walker Gunn MacWilliam; her grandchildren James Donald MacWilliam IV, Jacob Lloyd MacWilliam, Rachel Marie MacWilliam; Kristen Marie MacWilliam, Payson Lord MacWilliam Jr.; her sister Barbara Lord Gow; her sister-in-law Mrs. Andrew James Lord Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The date of a Memorial Service to be held at St. John The Divine Episcopal Church will be announced next week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Pancreas Foundation, 364 Boylston Street, 4th floor, Boston, MA 02116.

Olive Church of God, with interment to follow at Forest Park Westheimer. Eleanore will be missed by her family and friends.

Johnny Mac Miller
September 24, 1952 - May 06, 2011

Johnny Mac Miller, born September 24, 1952 in Hazel, KY to William Cyrus Miller and Thelma Rose McPherson Miller, passed away May 6, 2011 in Houston, TX.
After graduating from Southern Illinois University, Johnny joined his family's funeral business in Hazel as a second generation funeral director and embalmer. After his father's death, he launched a second funeral home in Murray, KY. In 1992, he met the love of his life, native Houstonian, Denise Brown. In 1993, he sold his two funeral homes and moved to Houston.
After the death of his father in-law, Johnny saw the need for a funeral facility that offered impeccable service at reasonable costs. On March 8, 1995, Johnny and Denise opened Miller Funeral Services and Cremation Society of Texas. Throughout his lifetime in the funeral profession, Johnny has touched and helped thousands of families in need. To know Johnny was to love him. He was an incredibly hardworking, ethical and generous man. His passions in life were God, his wife, his family, his work, his dogs Hoot Cab, golf, The University of Kentucky Wildcats and The University of Houston Cougars.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father and his beloved four-legged child, Bubba. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Denise; mother, Thelma Miller of Hazel, KY; sister, Jeanie Pat Kingins of Murray, KY; brothers in-law James Brown and wife Pat of Waco, TX; LeRoy Brown and wife Jane of Honolulu, HI; Richard Brown and wife Donna of Kingwood, TX; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Johnny is also survived by his phenomenal work family, Dr. Luke Ates, Ted Garcia, Maryjade Pochivalova, and Emily Forsythe.
A celebration of this outstanding man's life will be held Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Frwy, Houston, TX 77024 with visitation at 11:00 a.m., service at 12:00 noon, and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be James Brown, LeRoy Brown, Richard Brown, Clayton Brown, Carter Brown, Chance Brown, Cooper Brown, and Matthew Clafferty. Interment at Glenwood cemetery will be private.

Peter Traylor

PETER TRAYLOR loving husband, proud father and good friend passed away early this past Sunday (8/24) morning. Peter was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at MD Anderson in October 2007. He is survived by his wife Gerry, and children Libby, Katie, Nikki and Russell; grandchildren Carson and Zachary; siblings Marianne, Sonia, Cheri, Rosemarie, Richard, Kitty, arid Eric. Peter enjoyed working for Texas Children's Hospital BioMed Department for 16 years. He was very active in his St. Thomas More Catholic community in many areas: soccer, girl scouting, boy scouting. Oktoberfest, the Opera and the most fun Thanksgiving Day Parade. Peter was an avid soccer player, referee and fan. A man of faith, humor and strong character loved sailing, camping. If something was broke he could and would fix it. Join the family for a prayer service Wednesday (8/27), 8:30 pm and Funeral Mass Thursday (8/28) at 10 am both being held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 10330 Hillcroft St. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center/Palliative Unit.

Harold W. Beckett, 64, born on March 2, 1944 in Gibbstown, New Jersey passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Spring, Texas. Harold will be missed by his family and friends.

Jerry Dane Campbell

JERRY DANE CAMPBELL died August 23, 2008 of multiple myeloma. He was born in Palestine, TX on October 4, 1952. He graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School and the University of Houston, and served in the US Army Staff Judge Advocate Corps. He was a deacon and long time member of West University Baptist Church. Survivors are his loving wife Adriana and son Michael of Houston, TX; mother Fonda Campbell and brother John Campbell of Bellaire, TX; sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Jamie Todd of Sugar Land, TX; nephew Brandon Todd and wife Carissa of Houston, TX; nephew Cam Todd of Austin, TX and nephew Will Campbell of Gainesville, FL. Following cremation there will be a memorial service on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 1:00 pm at West University Baptist Church, 6218 Auden, Houston, TX, followed by a celebration of life in the Welcome Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Casa el Buen Samaritano in care of West University Baptist Church.
