John Jospeh McSweeney, 75, born on June 13, 1934 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, passed away in Kingwood, Texas on Sunday, June 28, 2009. He is survived by his son, Kevin, and a host of loving relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior, at St.. Mary Magdeline Catholoc Church in Humble. A private interment at Houston National cemetery will take place at a later date.

Barbara Dordelly

En Memoria De Barbara Dordelly, born on July 17, 1937 in Rubio, Venezuela, and passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009 in Missouri City, Texas at the age of 71. She will be sorely missed by her loving daughter, Alejandra, and many, many other loving family members & friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at a later date.

Thomas P. Tremblay

Thomas P. Tremblay, born on August 26, 1923 in Mineville, New York, passed away on June 25, 2009 at his home in Houston, Texas, at 85 years of age. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mildred, family & friends.

Susan K. Searle, 93, born on October 27, 1915 in Clinton, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Pearland. She will be missed by her son, and other family members and friends.

Henry P. Dyches

Henry Perry Dyches, born on January 23, 1930 in Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009 in Houston at 79 years of age. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. John The Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, Texas 77019 with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Bethany cemetery in Aiken, South Carolina.

Ernest L. Sulak

ERNEST LOUIS SULAK, 84, born on March 12, 1925 in West, Texas, died on June 18, 2009 at home in Hospice Care. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnye; sons, Dan Sulak; Joel Thornton and wife Madeline; daughter, Kathy Green and husband Earl; grandchildren, Sara Blair, Dustin Sulak, Eli Cipolla, Angela Thornton, Christopher Thornton, Jason Vaughn, and Brandi Sanford; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Laur; Mary Trojacek; Clara Smith and husband Don; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by parents, Adolph and Molly Sulak; brother, John Sulak; and sisters, Adela Langston and Lillian Rejcek. Ernest served in the Army Air Force during WWII and retired from Cameron Iron in 1983. He was a member of Oaks Christian Church, American Legion Post 560, and Oak Forest Masonic Lodge #1398. He was also a dedicated volunteer for "MANNA" Christian Assistance Ministry. A Memorial Service celebrating Ernest's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Oaks Christian Church, Ella at Bethlehem. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice Team 506 for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Vitas Hospice, 4848 Loop Central, Suite #650, Houston, TX 77081 or to The American Lung Association.

Thelma R. Swanson

THELMA ROSENHOLM SWANSON, age 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. Born February 14, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the oldest of nine children. She has been a resident of Texas since January 1976. Thelma was known for her positive, joyful outlook of life. She enjoyed writing and painting and being a part of the Chai Group at the Jewish Community Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Lloyd Joseph Swanson. Survivors include four children, Sandra Swanson; Diane Bourn and her husband Doug; Robert Swanson and his wife Melissa; and Judy Flusche; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, and one sister. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft, Houston. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Chai Group of the Jewish Community Center, 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd., Houston, TX 77096.

Wanda Alice Aydogan

Wanda Alice Aydogan passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in Houston at the age of 57. She was born on December 11, 1951 in Meadville, Pennsylvania and will be sadly missed by her husband, Salih, three sons of Houston and Australia, and many other loving family members and friends.

Michael John Gianitsis

Michael John Gianitsis, 47, born on January 22, 1962 in Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in Houston. He will certainly be missed by a great many people, including his son, Josh, and his devoted partner, Michael. The family will be throwing a huge party in honor of Michael's life at a later date.

Florence M. Sabol

Florence Mildred Sabol, 79, born on February 7, 1930 in South Langhorne, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Houston. She will be missed by her family who loved her.

Louis A. Bruno

LOUIS ANTHONY BRUNO, departed this life in Houston, Texas on June 13, 2009. He was the sixth of eleven children born to Louis Vitaliano and Rosa (Leone) Bruno on August 3, 1916, in Toledo Ohio. He graduated from Libbey High School class of 1934. Lou was a manager of the Trianon Ballroom, Indian Lake Amusement Park, Russels Point, Ohio, and Centennial Terrace, Sylvania, Ohio. In 1984 as his high school reunion he rekindled a high school romance with Kathryn Hissong-Shuman. They were married in Houston, Texas, on September 18, 1985. She was the love of his life. Lou is survived by his wife Kathryn; sister Jacquelyn Bruno; sisters-in-law Velerh (Carl), Sylvania, Ohio and Virginia (Gordon), Sebastopol, California; step sons Terry Shuman (Sandy), Maumee, Ohio and Gerry Shuman (Ann), Houston, Texas; step grandchildren and great grandchildren in Texas and Ohio. Many nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Lee; brothers, Frank, Gordon, and Carl; sisters, Lena, Genevieve, Rose, Connie, and Estelle. A celebration of Lou's life will be held in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Services, 7723 Beechnut, on Wednesday, June 17th, visitation at 10:00 am with Funeral services to follow at 11:00 am.

Shiu Ching Chen

Shiu Ching Chen, 76, born in Tsintao, China, on April 25, 1933 passed away on Friday, June 12, 2009 in Sugar Land, Texas. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Yung Chen, and other loving family and friends.

Robert Morrison Massey, Jr.

ROBERT M. "Buddy" MASSEY, JR., 62, passed away on June 11, 2009, at his home in Houston, TX. He was born March 17, 1947 in Jackson, MS. He is the first child of Morrison and Nancy Massey. Buddy graduated from Mississippi State University in 1969 and The School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1978. Buddy began his human resources career with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in 1969 in Jackson, MS and moved to Houston, TX in 1980 to join Southern National Bank. He later held positions with Harlingen National Bank and Transamerica Real Estate Company. Buddy was an avid reader and sports enthusiast who never missed a golf major, Astros game or televised Mississippi State game, but his real passion was his family. Buddy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Priscilla Massey, his son, Todd Massey and wife, Emily, his daughter Kristen Massey, grandchildren Sarah Kate, Caroline, Jack Massey, and brothers Boyd Massey and wife Jill, Burney Massey and wife Tina, and best friend, Huey. His survivors wish to thank the many friends and family he loved so dearly and who enriched his life. You were the inspiration for many stories that have entertained us over the years. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Miller Funeral Home, 7723 Beechnut, Houston, TX. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3511 Linkwood Dr., Houston, TX with a visitation one hour prior. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Health System of Houston, Texas.

Kenneth Byron Fuller

Kenneth Byron Fuller, 71, born on August 16, 1937 in Cameron, Texas, passed away on June 11, 2009 in Houston. He will be missed by his wife, Carolyn and numerous others. A full obituary will run at a later date.

Karen Sue Bridges

Karen Sue Bridges, 60, born on June 5, 1949 in Houston, passed away on June 10, 2009 also in Houston. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Darrell; daughter, and many other loving family and friends.

Ludie C. Browne

Ludie Carolyne Browne, born on February 28, 1905 in Aldine, Texas, passed away on June 9, 2009 in Houston, Texas at the healthy age of 104. She leaves behind her son, Ralph, and will be missed.

Elaine Marie-Louise Evers

Elaine Marie-Louise Evers, 51, born on February 26, 1958 in Edmonton, Canada, passed away on June 8, 2009 in Houston, Texas. She will be painfully missed by her husband Michael, sister Maureen, and many others who loved her.

Margaret Elizabeth Rodriguez

Margaret Elizabeth Rodriguez, 67, born on April 20, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 in Houston, Texas. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Rebecca, and a host of loving family members and friends.

Ormonde Smith III (Kip)

Ormonde Smith III (Kip) suffered a massive stroke on June 5, 2009, and passed away June 6, 2009. He died peacefully and painlessly surrounded by his loving family. Kip was born October 30, 1943, in Fort Wayne Indiana, and his family moved shortly afterwards to Houston, where he lived a full and rich life. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Charlotte; his parents, Margaret and Ormonde Jr.; his brother, Thomas; sister, Katharine (Kitty) Smith and husband Jeffrey Pritchard; brother Patrick; stepson Reid Dickson, and several nieces and nephews. Kip graduated from the University of Houston, but his most meaningful educational experience was attending boarding school at the Darrow School in the Berkshire hills of New York. The spirit in which Kip carried out his life should be an example for all. He was one of those people whose personal happiness was an extension of the joy he had in his heart and the genuine interest he showed in others. He lived his life with enthusiasm, a twinkle in his eye, and love in his heart. His unique sense of humor will not be forgotten. He left those who knew him with warm memories to cheer us and fill our hearts. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 12 at 3:00 in the afternoon at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Dr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Darrow School, 110 Darrow Rd., New Lebanon, NY 12125.

Don Phillips

Don Phillips went home to be with His Heavenly Father on June 6, 2009 with his family at his side. He was born on May 14, 1928 in Atlanta, GA and moved to Houston in 1945. He proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career as an information systems manager at Texaco where he retired after 31 years in 1987. Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty; son, Mike; daughter, Carol and her husband Mike Molloy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bryan, Terri, Rochelle, and Sean; as well as three great grandchildren, seven nieces and seven nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Westbury Baptist Church, 10425 Hillcroft, Houston TX 77096.

Sarah Rose Whelton

Sarah Rose Whelton, 10 years old, of Houston, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 with her father at her side. This little angel will be having a visitation on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Chapel. A celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., also at Miller Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Forest Park Westheimer cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sarah's name to Batten Disease Support & Research Association at www.bdsra.org

Michael C. Deodati, Jr.

MICHAEL C. DEODATI, JR., 85, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was a long-time Houston resident, World War II Veteran, Texas A&M graduate and had a great professional career in chemical engineering. Mike was well liked by all people, personal and business friends alike. He was genuinely a great person to know and lived his life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed by his son, Mike III, Sharon and Deanna, and the rest of his family and friends. Now he rests in Heaven with his beloved wife, Mary Sue. God bless them both!

John Michael Monley

John Michael Monley, 58, born on November 27, 1950 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009 in Houston, Texas. John will be missed by his family and friends.

Phyllis Elaine Nold

Phyllis Elaine Nold, 83, born on November 30, 1925 in Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Houston, Texas. She will be missed by family and friends alike.

David J. Stone

DAVID JOSEPH STONE, a Fort Bend County attorney and community activist, died Wednesday (June 3, 2009) at his home in First Colony of Sugar Land. His death was the result of a fast growing cancer only diagnosed on May 5, 2009. Mr. Stone was born April 11, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo. As an 8-year old child his family moved to Dallas, TX. He was a graduate of Dallas' Jesuit Repertory High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston in 1969. After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Sgt. Stone received an honorable discharge. He returned to Houston with his new wife, Gail, to attend the University of Houston Law School. He received his J.D. degree in 1975. He joined Hughes Tool Co. while he was in law school and eventually became its general council. He advised the company during its merger to become Baker-Hughes Inc. He later became of council with the Andrews & Kurth law firm in Houston. Mr. Stone opened his private practice five years ago and had offices in the Comerica Building. He was a nationally recognized securities attorney. He was a major player in the local Republican Party in helping it gain recognition as a major party in Texas. He served in the political trenches as precinct chair and for 20 years was pro-bono general counsel to the county party. A frequent delegate to the state republican conventions, he also served numerous times as chairman of the State Senatorial District 18 convention. After moving to Sugar Land, Mr. Stone was elected president of the Settler's Park Home Owners Assn. He was later to elected to the board of the Fort Bend Municipal Utility District #12. During his tenure with the board, he helped with the creation and construction of the 22 acre First Colony Park and Conference Center. In the early 1980s, he was elected to the Fort Bend Independent School District board of trustees. After his District MUD was annexed into the city of Sugar Land, Mr. Stone was named to the city's economic development corporations. David Stone is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail, and his son, Christopher of Richmond. A Celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Lost Creek Park in Sugar Land (located off Settlers Way between Lexington Ave and Highway 6 from 6:00-8:30 P.M.

Chester A. Nenney, Jr.

Chester A. Nenney died peacefully at home on May 30, with his wife and daughter nearby. To the end he shared humor and showed concern for others. He was born in Monroe, LA, Oct. 22, 1917, to Chester Arthur Nenney and Emma Owen Nenney.

He was preceded in death by his sister Polly Nenney Breed.

He is survived by Willine, his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 65 years; daughter Susan and son-in-law Louis B. Parks; nephews Larkin Breed, Owen Breed and wife Lynn and Mike Breed and wife Ellen. We love him.

He attended L.S.U. before returning to work in Monroe. He held the first draft number (#158) drawn in 1940 and joined the National Guard, transferring to the Army Air Corps in 1941. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in June, 1942. In the 301st Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force, he arrived in England in 1942 and made his first flight in a B-17. Flying from England and North Africa, he completed 51 missions as copilot and pilot in "Behind the Eight Ball", and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was a flight instructor in Sebring FL for the duration of his service ending in 1945. He married his sweetheart Willine Boxley, Mar. 25, 1944. With a BA in mechanical engineering from Louisiana Tech, he began a successful and lifelong career as a petroleum engineer.

Chester made many friendships that lasted his lifetime. Growing up in Monroe, he and Willine kept their close knit hometown pals. These friends survived the Great Depression and did their share in World War II, both profoundly influencing their outlook on life. With modest expectations, they found success and enjoyment all their lives. They laughed a lot.

Chester was a quiet, dignified man with a big spirit, clear principles and a twinkle in his eye. He loved a good joke, a vodka martini and chocolate malts. He drew great pleasure from the company of family and friends. He was a lifelong Presbyterian and fulfilled a variety of church roles in congregations in Houston, Lafayette and Liberal, KS.

When he was away from his family and friends, he always sent the same message: "Tell 'em all hello."

His last years were greatly enriched by the loving care of Gretel Vassel, LaShonda Edwards and most especially Ernestine Dickerson.

A memorial service will be held at Bayou Manor, 4141 S. Braeswood, Friday June 5, 11:00 AM followed by a reception. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, 8915 Timberside Dr. Houston 77025; Houston Hospice, 1902 Holcombe, Houston 77030; the Nature Conservancy of Texas, P.O. Box 1440 San Antonio 78729 or the charity of your choice.
