George M. Praiswater

GEORGE MARION PRAISWATER In a small farm house in Eureka, Kansas, George was born on Dec. 23, 1940. And so it began, the making of this eccentrically wonderful, kind and intelligent man, who had a life long love for animals, a passion for motorcycle racing, piloting small aircraft, and remaining forever footloose and fancy free. His boyhood years took his family from Kansas to Oklahoma and finally to Houston, Texas in 1957. He graduated from Reagan High School 1 1/2 years later, enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed for 4 years in Germany as a radar technician. He returned to Houston, following his discharge and within two months George was hired by and remained a loyal employee of IBM for more than 30 years. For the next umpteen years, George coasted contently through life. In 1985, however, while attending an annual S/W Texas BMW motorcycle rally he overheard a lady named Kathleen Nau inquire about taking motorcycle lessons. He introduced himself to her and then offered to teach her how to ride. Six months later Kathy loved watching George happily take down his bachelor's shingle and then, just two short years later, felt the same way as he hung in its place, a picture of their new born daughter, Kelly Christine. When George was diagnosed with cancer 11 months ago, he embraced the challenge just as aggressively as he did years ago on the motorcycle raceway. And his positive attitude never, ever waned. But as is often the case with cancer, George lost his courageous battle on Sept. 17, 2007. He leaves behind his two "girls" Kathy and Kelly, his mother Mary, sister Sharon, three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother Harry. The family is honoring George's request for a private memorial gathering that will be held this coming weekend. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Houston SPCA, 900 Portway Dr. Houston, TX 77024.
