Bryan Scott Fry

JOPLIN, Mo. — “God must have needed a good welder” were true words of comfort offered to the family of Bryan Scott Fry, 19, who went to be with many cherished family members in heaven on March 19, 2007. Bryan had been a lifelong resident of Joplin, until January when he moved to Houston, Texas, to attend Ocean Corporation’s school of underwater welding.

Bryan Fry was born in Joplin, Sept. 10, 1987, to Teresa T. Fry and James W. Fry (deceased). Bryan attended B.S.F., was a member of Real Life Church, of Joplin, attended Martin Luther School for 8th grade and attended Joplin High School in May 2006, along with achieving his welding certification from Franklin Tech. After graduation he worked for Able Body.

His father, James, preceded him to heaven Feb. 11, 2004; as did his maternal grandfather, Samuel Trapp June 10, 2003. Bryan was instrumental as a caregiver for both of them. Florence Fry his paternal grandmother was also there to meet him at heaven’s gates.

He is survived by his mother, Teresa (Terrie) Fry; grandmother, Pauline Trapp; brother, Lloyd Dodson, Kansas City, Mo., his wife, Jennifer and their sons, Lloyd III and Ian; brother, Paul Dodson, Kansas City, and life partner, Katherine Carlson; brother, John David Fry, Joplin, his wife, Tarah and their sons, Kinnison and Ashran; half sister, Brenda Johnson, Diamond, Mo., her husband, Chris and son, Caleb; and half brother, James Dale Fry and family, Florida.

Bryan was “brother” to many and will be sadly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at Mason-Woodard at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 29, with Jerry Myers, Minister, officiating.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Bryan Fry Scholarship that will be presented to the Ocean Corporation. Contributions may be sent to Mason-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 East 7th Street, Joplin, Mo., 64801.

James Hill Gillis

James Hill Gillis, 98, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Parkway Place in Houston, TX. A native of New Orleans, Jim was born July 2, 1908. Jim resided at Lambeth House in New Orleans until he evacuated to Houston after Hurricane Katrina. Jim was a journalist for the The Times-Picayune for 48 years. During World War II, he served for five years in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in naval intelligence. Jim graduated from Tulane University in 1931 and was active in the university’s Emeritus Club. He served as the first vice chairman of the Emeritus Club Board of Governors in 1987 and as chairman in 1988. An avid fan of Tulane football, Jim was a season ticket holder, attending his last game at age 96. Jim was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary E. Gillis Jr. and Frank C. Gillis; wife, Isadora Myers Wilson Gillis; and three step-sons, David C. Wilson, Oren C. Wilson and Jack M. Wilson. Jim is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Diemont, and her husband, Frank, of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Stephen Diemont, Stewart Diemont, Lynda Diemont and Susan Diemont-Conwell; six great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and eleven step-great grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 24, 9:30 a.m. at Chalstrom Parish House, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, New Orleans, LA. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Internment will be at Metairie cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Andrews Episcopal Church 1031 S. Carolton Ave., New Orleans, LA 70118; General Scholarship Fund, Office of Donor Relations, Tulane University, 3439 Prytania St, New Orleans, LA 70115; or VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 701 N. Post Oak, Suite 101, Houston, TX 77024.

Jim Ted Jolly
Jim Ted Jolly, Psychologist, born January 14, 1939, to Lillie Dell Slover and John Vernon Jolly in Phillips, Texas, died March 14, 2007. Born a twin along with Jack Ned Jolly of Payson, Arizona and brother, Billy Rex Jolly of Fritch, Texas, the boys grew up in the oilfields of North Texas. Ted graduated from The University of North Texas in 1963 with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. He was a psychologist for Gatesville State School for Boys and the Director of Juvenile Services for the City of Lubbock before he came to Houston in 1968 with the Vocational Guidance Service. Ted started his private psychology practice in 1970. He worked for many years as an expert witness for the Social Security Administration Disability Determination Division as well as a legal expert with attorneys and economists. Counseling private clients and facilitating groups in anger management were his favorite types of therapy.

Ted is survived by his wife, Nancy Jordan Jolly; his son, Derek Jolly and wife Tracy; daughters, Jamie Jolly Lottinger; Mandy Jolly Norman and husband Teddy; Jodie Jolly Milson and husband Lynn; Cheryl Richardson Smith; Kathryn Richardson Oliver and husband Darren; Lorraine Richardson Tipps and husband Douglas. Ted is also survived by his grandchildren Clara Mae Milson, Andrew and Matthew Smith, Jason and Travis Burns, Timothy Ford and wife Lynette, Ginger and Nancy Ford, and great grandchildren, Lilly Rose Ford and Gabriel Winter. He is also survived by his twin brother, Jack Ned Jolly and wife Cela; and brother Billy Rex Jolly and wife LaVerne as well as many, many nieces and nephews.

A courageous battle with cancer allowed Ted and Nancy to become intimately involved with the doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Hospital and most recently acquainted with the loving care of the Palliative Care Group of M.D. Anderson and ultimately the staff of Houston Hospice. The skilled doctors and nurses there have been compassionate and caring to the patient as well as family and friends. Donations in Ted’s memory may be directed to either of these organizations.

The family will receive visitors at Fairmont Central Baptist Church, 3801 Preston Avenue, Pasadena, Texas 77505, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 16th.

A memorial service will be held at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, 53rd street at Avenue U, Galveston, Texas, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 17th.

Dorothy Soule

DOROTHY SOULE died March 10, 2007. She is survived by 6 daughters, 5 son-in-laws, 3 sons, one daughter-in-law, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. A rosary will be held in the chapel of Miller Funeral Services, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2007 with visitation to follow from 8:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in the chapel of Miller Funeral Services. Graveside service to follow, 1:00 p.m., at Brookside cemetery.

Bettye Cooke Boulden

Bettye Cooke Boulden was born December 31, 1923 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and passed away February 27, 2007 in The Woodlands, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cantrell Cooke; parents, Ledford Donald and Claribel Martin; and brother, Donald Ledford Martin. Bettye is survived by brother, Harry Winston Martin; daughter, Lynda Adolphus-Wicke and her husband Charles Wicke; daughter, Sherry Blattel and her husband Rudy Blattel; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007 in the Chapel of Miller Funeral with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Forest Park Westheimer cemetery.

Gene Arthur Archer
In loving memory of Gene Arthur Archer, born May 29, 1939 in Keo, AR. Entered into eternal rest on February 23, 2007. Remembered by 2 sisters, 1 brother; his children Susan, Sandra, Carolyn, and Jimmy; 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing will be Monday, Feb. 26, 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 27, 12 p.m. at Miller Funeral Services.

Timothy W. Cheaney
Timothy W. Cheaney passed away peacefully February 13, 2007, he was 47. He was preceded in death by his father Charles W. Cheaney. Tim is survived by his mother Marilyn B. Cheaney and several brothers and sisters including: Chuck and Carla Cheaney; Carol and Bill Hopkins; Chris Cheaney; Clint and Mary Ellen Cheaney; Carl Cheaney; Terry and Mary Cheaney; and Jennifer Listi. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held @ Miller Funeral Services Friday, February 16th from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 17th at 9:30 a.m. at Miller Funeral Services with interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale. Rest in Peace.

Jenny W. Kiel
Jenny W. Kiel, 75 of Houston, Texas went to be with our Lord January 30, 2007. Jenny is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gerald. Jenny is also survived by her three children: Jerry and his wife Robin, Karen and her husband Tom and her son Tom. She was the loving grandmother of Megan, Erin and Shannon McNichols and Kellie, Tara and Brent Kiel. She was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Thomas F. Weaver, her brothers James and Thomas Jr. Weaver and is survived by her brother Robert Weaver. Jenny was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church where she participated in many groups and activities. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

W.J. (Bill) Taggart
Went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2006, after years of illness. Survived by wife Millie; Sons, Gregg and Brian and his wife Lorynda. Special thanks to his long time caregiver, Robert Williams and his great friend, Larry Strickland. Burial will be at a later date in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania.

Carol Burleson
Carol Burleson, 53, of Katy, went to be with the Lord, on Oct. 9. 2006. Survived by husband Michael, brother Richard Wyatt, sisters Connie Laza & husband Emilio, and Kaye Binger & husband Bob, & beloved Aunt Maxine, relatives & friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Lois Hastedt, brothers John & Don Wyatt. The family thanks Pam Cates, Jackie Harrison & Mary Ann McIver for their special care given to Carol.

Edward K. Fuessel

Edward K. Fuessel, born June 24, 1915 passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2006. Ed will be sorely missed by his wife Lotti, her parents and her brother, Otto, Trudi, & Peter, Ed's daughter Judy & husband Bob, his step-daughter Sylvia & Phil, grandsons Sean and Conor & wife Jen, granddaughter Kelly & husband Bill, and two great-granddaughters Erin & Colleen. Receiving condolences Friday, Oct. 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. @ Miller Funeral Services.

Armando Muro

Armando Ignacio Muro Pastrana, 28, born on August 5, 1981 in Mexico, passed away on August 16, 2009 in Houston. Armando is sure to be missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Fairy Wilson, born on October 16, 1922 in Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on August 16, 2009 in Houston. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, and all family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Otis Knox, Jr.

OTIS EDELL KNOX, JR., 83, passed away on August 12, 2009 and will be greatly missed by his family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3011 Telephone Road, Houston, TX 77023 with viewing 30 minutes prior. Interment will be at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Gulf Coast Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Abraham Pollack

ABRAHAM POLLACK, 89 passed away on August 11, 2009 at the Holcombe House Hospice of the Texas Medical Center. A native of New York City, Abe spent the last 18 years as a resident of Houston, Texas. Abe served in the Navy during WWII & the Korean War. After graduating Long Island University as a physicist he helped raise a family in Maryland with his now departed wife, Jane. He is survived by his oldest daughter Lori Ozer, son in law George Ozer & grandson Andrew. He is also survived by youngest daughter Leela Ruiz & his dear companion Phyllis Schatz. There will be a memorial service in Delaware later this month.

Joyce D. Jernigan

Joyce Diane Jernigan, 66, born on July 26, 1943 in Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on August 10, 2009 in Houston. Joyce will be sadly missed by her daughter, Rhonda of Olathe, Kansas, and by all those whose lives she touched. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Dyane Young, 69, born on February 6, 1940 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday August 10, 2009 in Houston. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Henry G. Levine

Henry George Levine, born on February 8, 1930 in St. Kitts, West Indies, passed away on August 7, 2009 in Houston. Henry was a favorite at Concierge Nursing Home and is sure to be missed by his loving family and by everyone else he knew. A Memorial Service celebrating his life was held on August 13.

Donna J. Simms

Donna Jean Simms, born on August 2, 1950 in Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away on August 6, 2009 in Houston. She will be sorely missed by her daughter & best friend, Helenia, as well as her grandchildren and many friends. Services will be held in West Virginia at a later date.

Virgil Cliffton Williams

Virgil Cliffton Williams, 78, born on May 22, 1931 in Rose City, TX, passed away on August 6, 2009 in Houston. He will be missed by his friends and family.

Louise I. Mannchen

LOUISE IRENE (BROWN) MANNCHEN, Born January 26, 1922 in Shreveport, LA, passed away on August 4, 2009 in Houston. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Irwin Mannchen; and parents Winnie Corbitt and Grover Brown. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kurt Mannchen and wife Margaret; and Brandt Mannchen; cousins, Jarvis Jenkins and Rudy Jenkins; and uncle, Erwin Mannchen. Louise loved dancing, travel, reading, and people. She enjoyed particularly social interaction and historical romance novels, and the beauty of nature and culture. She attended Milby High School, and upon graduating went to University of Houston. She met her husband and they married at Ellington Field before he left for England as a navigator in a B-17 in the 8th Air Force, 91st Bomb Group. Louise will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

James Edward Hero, Jr.

James Edward Hero, Jr., born on January 23, 1954 in Houston, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009 also in Houston. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Michael Chris Anderson

Michael Chris Anderson, born on June 10, 1948 in Seymour, Indiana, passed away on TuesdayJuly 28, 2009 in Houston. He leaves behind many loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Solas; son, Timothy Solas; daughter, Lisa Solas; and her granddaughters, Julienne M. Solas and Stevie L. Solas. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in the Chapel of Miller Funeral Services, with a Religious Service at 6:00 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date.
