James B. Chambers, Sr.
Graveside services for James B. Chambers, Sr., 79 of Beckville, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Langley cemetery near Beckville with Reverend Gary Chambers officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Chambers passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 27, 2009 in Carthage.
James B. Chambers Sr. was born on January 30, 1929 in LaPorte, Texas to James E. and Alma A. Browning Chambers. Mr. Chambers was educated in the LaPorte Schools. He married Peggy Jeane Trice on February 7, 1948 in Baytown, Texas. Mr. Chambers served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He moved to Beckville in 1972 from LaPorte. Mr. Chambers worked at Louisiana Pacific in Carthage for many years as a supervisor. He loved to build, remodel, and carpentry and after working for Louisiana Pacific, he started Chambers and Sons Remodeling in Beckville. Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James B. Chambers, Jr. who passed away in 2002.
Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Chambers of Beckville; two sons, Buck K. Chambers and wife Kitty and Gary L. Chambers and wife Tammy all of Beckville; one daughter, Glenda J. Reeder of Carthage; one brother, Buck H. Chambers and wife Ann of Beckville; one sister, Mary June Powell and husband Bubba of LaPorte; twelve grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary K. Franks and husband Earnest of Carthage. Numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Chambers.
Serving as pallbearers are Ricky Reeder, Randy Reeder, Justin Chambers, Derek Nail, Sammy Vandergriff, and Stephen Jaronitzky.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Langley cemetery Association.

Pinkney B. Matthews, Jr.
Graveside services for Pinkney B. Matthews, Jr. 61 of Lufkin, formerly of Carthage, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Oddfellows cemetery in Carthage with Reverend Paul Thomasson, Mr. Ron Adams, and Reverend Ardell Roberts officiating with the music provided by Mr. Charles Bailey.
Pinkney Bruce Matthews, Jr. was born on March 22, 1947 in Longview, to Pinkney B. Matthews, Sr. and Ivydel Byrd Matthews. He passed away on Monday night, January 26, 2009 in Lufkin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pink B. and Ivydel Matthews; his grandparents, Frank and Bessie Matthews and Arthur and Rosalie Byrd, all of Carthage; his brother, Arthur F. Matthews, of Houston; and two nieces, Stephanie Kaye Adams Smith and Ann Marie Bailey.
Mr. Matthews is survived by two sisters, Sydney Matthews Adams and husband Ron, of Keithville, Louisiana and Elizabeth Matthews Bailey, of Carthage; and eight nephews and nieces, Beth Bailey Higgins, Rhonda Adams Milano, Ruby Bailey Allred, Christopher J. Adams, Daryl Adams, Charles Matthews Bailey, Shannon Adams Carman and Sommer Adams.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Lufkin State School, P.O. Box 1648, Lufkin Texas 75902-1648.

Linda Scott
Funeral services for Linda Scott, 59 of the Deadwood Community of Panola County, will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with Reverend Paul Thomasson and Tonia Crittendon officiating. Interment will follow in Deadwood cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Scott passed away on Monday afternoon, January 26, 2009 at her home in Deadwood.
Linda Joy Smith Scott was born on July 9, 1949 in Shelby County, to Homer Edward and Velma Odell Luman Smith. She graduated from Center High School with the class of 1967. Linda graduated from Panola College and then went to Stephen F. Austin State University, where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Education on December 18, 1971. On that same day, she married Mervin Scott at the Wesley Foundation in Nacogdoches. Linda moved from Center in 1980 and began teaching at Baker-Koonce School in Carthage in 1982, retiring in 2006 after 24 years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed framing. Linda also enjoyed reading, traveling, photography, and playing the organ. She was a special preacher’s wife and was a mother and grandmother figure to many. Linda was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Douglas Wayne Smith; one sister, Kathy Ann Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Rev. Don Scott and Arthur Williams.
Linda is survived by her mother, Velma Luman Smith of Center; her husband of 37 years, Mervin Scott of Deadwood; a God son, David Stanley and wife Candie Lynn of Carthage; one brother, Gene Edward Smith and wife Mila of Center; two sisters, Betty Sue McSwain and husband Gene of Deadwood and Jeanene Porter and husband Danny of Deadwood; two brothers-in-law, Orville Scott and wife Emma Jean of Grand Saline and Lane Scott and wife Ann of Los Angeles; four sisters-in-law, Joyce Scott of Dripping Springs, Shirley Williams of Longview, Wanda Gray and husband Charles of Longview, and Mary Powell and husband Earle C. of Carthage; and foster grandchildren, Katherine Stanley of Diana, Johnathan and Melissa Stanley of Carthage. Numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, many friends, and her church family at Deadwood and Galloway United Methodist Churches also survive Linda.
Serving as pallbearers are Stevie Scott, Mark Scott, David Stanley, Reese Smith, James Scott, and John Scott.

Charles Edward Alford
Funeral services celebrating the life of Charles Edward Alford, 76, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel with Masonic Rites following the service. Officiating will be Dr. Billy McCormack. Interment will follow in Forest Park West cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 3 p.m. until 5p.m. Sunday January 25, 2009 at the funeral home.
Charlie was born on August 12, 1932 in Timpson, to Ollie Bernice and Buell Alford. Charlie was raised in Tenaha, and graduated from Tenaha High School in 1951.

T9C “Thornton” McWilliams
Funeral services for Mrs. T9C “Thornton McWilliams, 92 of Timpson, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Timpson with Reverend Josh Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn cemetery in Timpson under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home. Mrs. McWilliams died January 17, 2009 in Nacogdoches.

Betty Louise Bagley Gibbs
(February 1, 1942 - September 16, 2011)
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Betty Louise Bagley Gibbs, age 69, of the Shiloh Community in DeSoto Parish, LA, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Walker, pastor of Logan Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Methodist cemetery in Desoto Parish. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Gibbs passed from this life into glory on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Betty Louise Bagley Gibbs was born Feb. 1, 1942, to Rev. Herman and Mrs. Lucille McNeese Bagley in the Logan Community of Panola County, TX. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Betty married Tommy Gibbs on May 25, 1962, in Pasadena, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Bobby Jack Bagley; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Mittie Gibbs.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Tommy Gibbs of Shiloh; two sons, Barry Gibbs of Keatchie and Bobby Watson and wife Darla of the Antioch Community; one daughter, Shannon Gibbs and companion Jerry Talkington of Keatchie; four grandsons, Dusty Watson and wife Tara of Logansport, Matt Watson and girlfriend Hillary of Logansport, Jordan Gibbs of San Antonio, and Briar Gibbs of Keatchie; one granddaughter, Alisha Gibbs of Keatchie; son-in-law, Kevin Cordova; four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Leah, Bella, and Kayla Watson; two brothers, Herman D. Bagley and wife Wanda of Spring and James Bagley and wife Vivian of Huffman, cousin and best friend, Billie Adams of the Logan Community; and a special friend, Grace Harris. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Gibbs.
Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Gibbs’ grandsons, Dusty and Matt Watson, Jordan and Briar Gibbs, her nephew, Dwain Bagley, and Robert Harris.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Brayden Watson, Mike Blades, Kevin Cordova, John Derek Adams, and Linnis Walker.
The family would like to thank Dr. Houston Bosley, Tammy, Dr. Richard Haynie, Christina, Superior Hospice, Lisa Price, Renee Evans, Sharon Hall, Nancy Jefferson, Nell Norwood, Chasity Ebarb, and Buck Furlow for their support and compassionate care.

Minnie Mae White
Graveside services for Minnie Mae White, 94 of Hearne, formerly of Carthage, were held at 11 a.m. at Mission Hill cemetery in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Services were under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home with arrangements in Brookhaven, Mississippi by Harrigil Funeral Home. Mrs. White died January 16, 2009 in Hearne.

Billie Jo Cornelius
Funeral services for Billie Jo Cornelius were held at 1:30 p.m. on January 20, 2009 at Kaster-Maxon and Futrell Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer Street Chapel, burial followed in Ft. Bliss National cemetery. Mr. Cornelius died January 14, 2009.
Billie Jo Cornelius was born on September 24, 1926. He is survived by two sons Ronald C. and Donald W. Creel; and one sister Allois Moore.
Visitation was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, prior to funeral services.

Jim Hunt
Funeral services for Jim Hunt, 85 of Beckville, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dale Reed officiating. Interment followed at Langley cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Hunt died January 13, 2009 in Carthage.
Mr. James Roy “Jim” Hunt was born January 28, 1923 in Panola County, to the marriage of Thouston and Ozella Farmer Hunt. The only son of four children, Jim was raised and graduated from DelRay community schools. Mr. Hunt served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Island Campaign aboard the LSM 240, LSM 244 and remained active in the Landing Ship Medium Association. Later, he met and married Mrs. Frances Marie Aaron in 1972 celebrating almost 36 years together.

Susan Pearl Williams
Graveside services for Susan Pearl Williams, 57 of Carthage, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in the Gary cemetery with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Services are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Ms. Williams died July 27, 2008 in Carthage.
Ms. Susan Pearl Williams was born August 1, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was one of six children born to the marriage of Ben Hilliard “B.H.” and Peggy Sue Beaty Williams. Peggy was a graduate of Carthage High School with the class of 1968. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and became the first woman to graduate from Texas A&M University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Susan worked as an engineer for IBM in Austin and later as a postal clerk in Gary, Texas. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. Ms. Williams is preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors include brothers Thomas Claybern Williams and wife Rose Mary, of Abilene, John Ben Williams and wife Mary, of Carthage, and Robert Travis Williams and wife Tammie, of Gary; sisters Nancy Williams Langford and husband Larry, of Carthage, and Naomi Carol Williams Hewitt and husband Jeffrey, of Houston; uncles Joe Beaty, of Carthage, and David Verne Beaty, of Texarkana; three nephews; seven nieces, and a host of friends
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sammy Brown Library.

Tish Parker
Funeral services for Tish Parker, 77 of Carthage, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mackey Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Parker died Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Carthage.
Mrs. Addie Letitia McCarley Parker was born May 7, 1931 in Center. She was the only child born to the marriage of Richard Phillip and Muriel Lee Baker McCarley. Tish was a graduate of Pasadena High School with the class of 1949. She studied voice at North Texas State College in Denton and later obtained her degree in music from the University of Houston. A noted vocalist, Tish worked and sang her way through college, and continued her music through T.V. and radio. Known as “A singer of promise”, she worked for KGUL – TV and was named “Miss Houston TV” singing with such notables as Jimmy Stuart, Jimmy Durante and Perry Como. She married Jack Runnels Parker June 30, 1953 and together they raised four children in a loving Christian home and celebrated over 54 years of marriage before Jack preceded her in death in 2007. Tish was a longtime devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage where she taught the women’s bible study and was a charter member of the Carthage Service League supporting the Sammy Brown Library.
Her survivors include son Jack R. Parker, Jr. and wife Susie, of Lufkin; daughters Toni Moseley and husband Bobby, of Long Branch, Perri Browning and husband Pat, of Carthage, and Penni Mitchell and husband J, of Kilgore; sister-in-law Doris Parker, of Center; grandchildren Parker Moseley, of Dotson, Carley Butler, of Austin, Mary Kendall Parker, of Houston, Esme Thoman, of Austin, Phillip Mitchell, of Nacogdoches, Britt Mitchell, of Austin, Margie Mitchell, of Kilgore and Paige Parker, of Lufkin; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Parker Moseley, Phillip Mitchell, Britt Mitchell, Bobby Moseley, Pat Browning, Jack Parker, Jr. and J Mitchell.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Marian Place Assisted Living 1690 SW Loop 59, Carthage, TX 75633, with special thanks to Judy Stallone and staff from the Parker family.

Edward Clay Oden, Jr.
Graveside services for Edward Clay Oden, Jr., 76 of DeBerry, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Panola Mt. Zion cemetery with Reverend Gary Palmer officiating. Services are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Oden died Monday, July 28, 2008 in Shreveport, LA.
Mr. Edward Clay Oden, Jr. was born December 4, 1931 in Centennial, Texas to the marriage of Edward Clay and Claire Luttrell Oden, Sr. He graduated from Carthage High School and served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Mr. Oden was self employed as a Rancher and enjoyed playing cards. He is preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include son Clay Oden, II and wife Nancy, of DeBerry; daughters Debra Hassel and husband Robert, of Marble Falls, and Donna Tidwell, of Bossier city, Louisiana; special friend Florence Sims, of DeBerry; sister Myrtle Cangelose, of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren Rachel Oden, Hannah Oden, Ed Oden, Lauren Tidwell and Tiffany Tidwell; and ex-wife Dorothy Stewart, of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Cancer Research.
The Family would like to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses and a special thanks to Dr. Jain and Nurse Mary at the V.A. Medical Center.
