Bertrand Linell Ethridge
(January 12, 1939 - September 15, 2011)
Bertrand Lindell Ethridge, 72, of Mexia passed away September 15, 2011 in Carthage, Texas. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 20ll at Blue Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Houser and Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Interment will follow in the McClanahan cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 PM, Monday at the funeral home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
Bertrand was born January 12, 1939 to Thomas Edgar and Julia Ann McIntyre Ethridge in Marlin, Texas. He was a self-employed paint contractor. Bertrand had lived in Mexia for ten years. He was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Joni Lynn and Connie Beth Ethridge; and siblings, Ray, Delton, A.C., Andrew and Reed Allen Ethridge, Fay Kemp and Helen Truster.
Bertrand is survived by two brothers, Gene Ethridge and wife, Melba of Bonham, TX. and Vernon Ethridge and wife, Toni of San Angelo, TX.; three sisters, Jo Hood and husband, Scott of Longview, TX, Shirley Williamson of Henderson, TX. and Peggy Griffin and husband, Dock of Carthage; a number of nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be David Ethridge, Doyle Ethridge, Harvey Ethridge, Tip Stillwell, Jerry Holler, Jim Griffin, David Allen, Max Stillwell, Luke Ethridge and Les Jameson.
Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Baptist Church, P. O. Box 793, Marlin, Texas 76661.

Joyce (Taylor) Head
Funeral services for Joyce (Taylor) Head, 76 of Westlake, LA, will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Old Center Baptist Church with Reverend Olan Rivers officiating. Interment will follow at Old Center cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Head died Friday, December 26, 2008 in Sulphur, LA.
Mrs. Joyce Taylor Head was born February 1, 1932 in the Old Center Community to Clarence and Georgie Taylor. She attended Carthage schools graduating from Carthage High School. Mrs. Head was a longtime resident of Westlake and a homemaker. She was a member of Westlake First Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Roy Taylor and Billy Taylor.
Survivors include two daughters Linda Burrows and husband Gerald of Oklahoma City, OK, and Janise Crumpler and husband Tim of Sulphur, LA; son David Head and wife Marie of Lake Charles, LA; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers June Taylor and wife Maxine of Carthage, and Jesse Taylor and wife Lynn of Baytown; two sisters Charlcie Turner and husband Pat of Longview, and D’Anna Hooker and husband George of Tenaha; two sisters-in-law Delores Pusonji of Baytown and Georgia Taylor of California.
Visitation will be held at from 1 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Old Center Baptist Church.

Flanoy Holden Choate
(September 30, 1920 - September 8, 2011)
Graveside Services for Flanoy Holden Choate, 90 yrs. of Benton, Arkansas will be held at Antioch cemetery near Carthage, Texas on Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2011 at 3:30 p.m., under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mr. Choate passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011 in Benton.
Mr. Flanoy Holden Choate was born September 30, 1920 in Marshall, TX to Homer and Rosie Choate. Flanoy worked as a purchasing agent for United Gas Pipeline for many years, and was a member of Holiday Ramblers, Good Sam Camping Club and First Baptist Church of Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Annie Laura Roquemore Choate who died July 28, 2005.
Mr. Choate is survived by two sons, Robert (Tim) Choate of Benton, and Richard Roy Choate of Decatur, Alabama; one daughter, Anitta Choate Bounds of Benton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Stacy Allen Clepper
Funeral services for Stacy Allen Clepper, 46 of Timpson, were held Saturday, December 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson with Brother Leroy Bowley officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 in Field Store cemetery in Waller, TX under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Charles French
(November 18, 1938 - August 31, 2011)
Funeral services for Rev. Charles French, age 72, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro Calvin Hancock and Dr. Ray Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Rev. French passed away on Wednesday evening, Aug. 31, 2011, at his home in Carthage.
Charles Robert French was born on Nov. 18, 1938, in Sherman, TX to Cass Stinson French, Sr. and Lola V. Harrison French. He graduated from Bells High School with the class of 1956. Rev. French married Brenda Sue Meek on Nov. 10, 1956, in Bonham, TX. In Dec. of 1961, Rev. French surrendered to the ministry and was officially ordained on July 6, 1962. The five churches he served were Pecan Grove Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas City Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City, and Carthage Missionary Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church which was organized over 25 years ago in Carthage. He furthered his education by earning a Master of English Bible in 1971 and a Doctorate of Theology in 1996, from the Texas Baptist Institute. Rev. French was a master mason and was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 and the Texas City Lodge #1118. He was also a member San Felipe de Austin Commandery #1 Knights Templar in Galveston. Rev. French was involved with the Pine Springs Youth Encampment and served as the camp registrar and adult teacher for 23 years and he composed the Baptist Training Course Adult Quarterly for five years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted pastor. Rev. French was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Davy Herm; and three brothers, George, Harrison, and Cass French, Jr.
Rev. French is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda French of Carthage; two daughters, Terri French of League City and Beth Hall of Carthage; one son, Joey French and wife Elizabeth of Carthage; three grandchildren, Amy Trittel and husband Phillip of League City, Jeremy Hall of Carthage, and Kelsey French of Tyler; one great-granddaughter, Natali Trittel; a special sister-in-law, Bobbie French; and the Trinity Baptist Church Family. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Rev. French.
Serving as pallbearers are Chilton Stuart, Mark Cox, Dan Lovil, Dr. George Taylor, Hal Simpson, and D.R. Akin.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Cecil Bettevy, Bill Rosenblum, and Charlie Lawhorn.

Patsy Soape
Funeral services for Patsy Soape, 78 of Gary, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Cocklin officiating. Interment followed at Antioch cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Soape died December25, 2008 in Center.
Mrs. Patsy Ozelle Massey Soape was born June 20, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was one of two children born to the marriage of Walter and Leath Perkins Massey. Patsy was a member of the St. Paul Presbyterian Church, a loving homemaker, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved spending time with her friends with the 4-D Social Club. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Dawn Soape and two great grandchildren; Hope and Faith Schuchardt.
Survivors include father of her children and special friend Weldon Soape of Center; daughters Lynda Soape Lewis of Channel View, Angie Soape Hulsey of Carthage, and Christy Curry and Ronnie of Carthage; brother Raymond Earl Massey and wife Kimberly of Pearland; grandchildren Tisha Galloway and husband Billy of Houston, Jay Schuchardt and wife Crystal of Houston, Cheyenne Lampley and husband Larry of Tenaha, Travis Curry and wife Belinda of Carthage, Robert Schuchardt and wife Angela of Carthage and Joshua Hulsey of Carthage; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The Family would like to give Special Thanks to the staff at Green Acres Nursing Home in Center, Texas.
Pallbearers were David Soape, Garrett Soape, Grant Soape, Jeremy Henigan, Justin Brown, Kasey Townsend, Ricky Joe Wills. Honorary pallbearers were Petty Officer Cody Massey, Ronnie Curry, Billy Galloway, Jay Schuchardt, Larry Lampley, Travis Curry, Robert Schuchardt and Joshua Hulsey.
Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2008 at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Heartsway Hospice.

Virginia Williamson Bullock
Funeral services for Virginia Williamson Bullock, 75 of Longview, formerly of Carthage, were held at 12 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, with Reverend Phillip Cavilier and Reverend Richard Jones officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Bullock died Thursday, January 1, 2009 in Longview, after a long illness.
Virginia was born and raised in Carthage. She was a devoted wife and mother for many years. She was a sales clerk at the Family Dollar Store for rive years and was attending Calvary Baptist Church in Longview. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arnold Leon Bullock in 2005, also her parents Clinton and Cecile Williamson, sister Elizabeth Nance and brother Clint Williamson.
She is survived by her children Jaime Jobe of Kilgore, Clinton Bullock and wife Doris, of Longview, Ann Arnn and husband Chet, of Longview, and Patrice Robards and husband Billy, of Longview; grandchildren Darlene, Buddy, Stephen, Karen, Trey, Alisha, Dustin, Bryan, Chesley, Conard, Michael and Don; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother James Williamson and wife Marie, of Longview.
Visitation was held from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptsit Church children’s or youth ministries.

Violet Lolette Blevins
Funeral services for Violet (Miller) Blevins, 59 of Timpson, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Timpson with Brother Cliff Hughes officiating. Interment followed at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home. Ms. Blevins died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Nacogdoches Medical Center.

Lt. Gen James Cassity
Funeral services for Lt. Gen (ret) James S. Cassity, of Fair Oaks Ranch, formerly of Gary, were held on Tuesday, January 6 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boerne. A luncheon reception followed. Burial with full military honors was at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Lt. Gen Cassity died Tuesday, December 30, 2008.
Gen Cassity was born June 17, 1935 to Juanita and Shelby and considered Gary his hometown. He was a 1958 graduate of Texas A&M University and received a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1969. In addition, he completed the Air War College, the Defense Systems Management College and the advanced management program at Harvard.
Gen Cassity received his commission through ROTC in 1958. He earned his pilot wings at Laredo AFB, Texas. He is a command pilot with more than 4,500 flying hours, including 180 combat hours in helicopters during Vietnam. In 1964 he was assigned to Air Force Special Operations at Howard AFB, Canal Zone. From 1970 – 1974 he worked in the F-15 Systems Program Office at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.
General Cassity’s Communications and Information career started in 1974 when he was assigned to Headquarters, Electronic Systems Division, Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. He went on to lead a variety of C&I organizations including the Engineering Installation Center, served on the HQ USAFE staff as DCS for information systems, and the NORAD and Air Force Space Command DS for Communications. In 1988, he was appointed Commander, Air Force Communications Command. His final military assignment was Director, Command Control and Communications System for the Joint Staff which supported National Command Authority and specified commands on operations. He retired from the Air Force July 1, 1991.
After his military retirement, Jim was vice president and general manager for C4 and Information Management Systems at BDM International and later TRW. He enjoyed working in the church, handing out Gideon Bibles and playing golf.
Jim was married to Patricia Ann Smith on July 3, 1959. He is survived by her and by his children, Marcus Andrew Cassity and Judith Lynn Fitz and her husband, Jim, and two grandchildren, Eric and Elena. His mother, Lily Juanita Cassity also survives her son.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Gideon’s International, San Antonio North West Camp No. 4223.5, P.O. Box 681505, San Antonio, Texas 78268-1505 or First United Methodist Church, 205 James St., Boerne, Texas 78006.

J. B. Moore
Funeral services for J.B. Moore, 83 of Carthage, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bobby Earl Moore, Reverend Bruce Will and Reverend Kirby Hill officiating. Interment followed at Odd Fellows cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Moore died January 3, 2009 in Carthage.
Mr. J. B. Moore was born March 26, 1925 in the Murvaul Community of Panola County. He was one of two children born to the marriage of Reuben Earl and Annie Jeffress Moore. He was raised and schooled in Gary and attended Panola College. J. B. served his nation through the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Moore worked as a butcher for Robbie LaGrone Grocers and others before his retirement. He married Elsie Faye Shannon July 28, 1972 and together they celebrated 37 years of marriage. Mr. Moore was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his brother Rev. Earl Moore and a step daughter Donna PowellSurvivors include loving wife Elsie Moore, of Carthage; sons Douglas Moore, of San Antonio, and Gayland Moore and wife Melody, of Seguin; step-daughter Shannon Dabney and husband David, of Toledo Ohio; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends..
Pallbearers were Josh Moore, Jake Moore, Mike Moore, Jason Moore, David Earl Moore and Kevin Dykes. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Miller, Jeff LaGrone, Charles Newton, Jack Wilson, Jim Hunt, Ray Waldrop, Lindy Brittan, Larry Sheperd and James Boykin.
Visitation was held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
