Abshier

Alan Rod “Buddy” Abshier, 66, died September 6, 2016.

“Buddy” was born on April 1, 1950. Although he was born with Down syndrome, Buddy never let that stop him from enjoying every day. After his mother, Alyne Abshier, passed away he was raised by his very loving and caring aunt, Ruth Seale. They enjoyed life to the fullest in Raywood and Devers. Buddy very rarely met a stranger and one of the highlights of his life was his employment at the Liberty HEB. He also enjoyed being a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Devers.

After the death of his brother, Kendrick Abshier and his aunt, Ruth Seale, he was cared for by his legal guardians, Bette and Bubba Haidusek with the help of his dear friends, Perry and Ann McPherson and Ruth Estes.

He spent his last year at Fairy’s Landing in Hull, Texas. Thankfully, the staff loved and cared for Buddy so well and he loved them all. Special thanks is given to Chris Pelky and Gidget who were not only his caregivers but also his best friends. Buddy had numerous friends that were blessed to be part of his life and that will always cherish his memory.

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn cemetery, 1101 Antoine in Houston on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 10:00am, under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Cloud

Virginia Jo Cloud, 70, of Dayton, formerly of Conroe, Texas, died Thursday, September 1, 2016.

She was born on August 16, 1946 to Joe P. Self, Jr. and Virginia Powell Self.

Jo graduated from San Angelo High School Central in 1965 and attended the Durham Business School. She was a member of River Pointe Baptist Church in Conroe, where she also played the organ. Jo loved spending time with family and friends. She loved her grandchildren and would always smile whenever they were around.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 40 years Thomas Cloud; her children Lisa Yvonne Huddler and husband James, Kim Davenport and husband Glen, Rosary Cady and husband Bo and Sherard Cloud and wife April all of Seadrift, Texas; her 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Jo will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Friends are invited to visit with the family starting at 10am on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street, Dayton, Texas. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:30am. Interment will take place in Elmwood Memorial Park on Thursday in Abilene, Texas.

Campbell

Reagan “Shorty” Campbell age 74 died Sunday September 4, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.

Shorty was born in Liberty, Texas January 19, 1942 the son of the late Sam Houston Campbell and Reba Catherine Poe Campbell. Reagan’s parents gave the nickname “Shorty” to Reagan and “Skinny” to his twin brother Raymond, nicknames that forever followed them both. Shorty had an amazingly blessed life. The youngest of ten children, he spent the majority of his youth in the South Liberty Oil Field. His family moved numerous times throughout his childhood. Shorty was a gifted athlete growing up, he broke many school records and had his jersey retired from Liberty High School. He served in the US Army from 1964-1968 attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Shorty worked in the oilfield throughout his life starting as a roughneck retiring as a Petroleum Consultant. During his career Shorty attended numerous schools to advance his knowledge in his field. He loved to fish and hunt, but loved most to cook and be with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers: Brandon Campbell; Grover Campbell; R.C. “Cotton” Campbell; Raymond “Skinny” Campbell; sisters: Jewel Coward; Doris Davis Eaton; Verna Calhoun; Sylvia Peak; and a daughter Brenda Gayle Campbell.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of fifty years Connie Pat Howle Campbell, son James Reagan “Bubba” Campbell wife Jeania, daughters Katrina Nell Bryant and Laticia Ann Thonsgaard, and a sister Annabelle Anderson. In addition he leaves his six grandchildren: John Kaleb Stelly (Hanna); Cory Alan Bryant; Jake Reagan Thonsgaard; James Quinton Campbell; Paul Alan Thonsgaard; and Jules Paige Thonsgaard, as well as a great grandson John Wyatt Stelly. Shorty will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday September 6, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 10AM Wednesday at Hardin Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Shorty’s memory to a church of your choice.

Chachere

Luther Joseph “L.J.” Chachere, 84, of Dayton died peacefully Saturday, September 03, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Mr. Chachere will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 5, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church. Services are to be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday morning, September 6, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with interment to follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Mr. L.J. Chachere was born on January 19, 1932 to Raymond George and Alma Margaret Chachere in Orchard, Texas. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1950, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1954 and a Masters Degree in 1955 from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas. L.J. moved to Dayton, Texas in 1955 as a vocational agriculture teacher at Dayton High School. He married Jonnie Lea Belt in 1957 and together they have raised 5 children.

Mr. Chachere has been the owner of Chachere Feed Store since 1963. In addition to being a feed dealer, he was a rancher and hay producer. He was very proud of his premium quality Coastal Bermuda hay. In 1959 he started the Dayton Young Farmer Chapter and is honorary member of the Dayton FFA Chapter. L.J. was named Area IX Outstanding Young Farmer, received the Honorary Lone Star Farmer Degree and the Honorary American Farmer Degree. Mr. Chachere was a Life Scout in the 1940's. The 2016 Dayton FFA Livestock Show was dedicated to L.J.

Mr. Chachere was ordained a Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in 1967. From 1977 until present he has been a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, and from 1977 to present he was a member and Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton.

He served as a member of the Dayton ISD School Board from 1976 until 1991, as director of the Liberty County Appraisal District and on the Review Board at Liberty County Appraisal District. He helped organize P.A.C.E and F.A.C.E. organizations, which were instrumental in keeping toxic waste from coming into our community. He was a founder and director of First National Bank of Dayton and was a 2004 Dayton ISD Wall of Fame Honoree.

During his 61 years as a Liberty County resident, Mr. Chachere has helped countless individuals, families and organizations with his time, financial assistance and Christian guidance. Mr. Chachere had the utmost respect of his family, friends & residents of Liberty County.

L. J. was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond Don, and Milton Chachere, and sister, Wanda Graves.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jon Belt Chachere of Dayton; sons, Dr. Luke Chachere and wife Julie of Dayton, Rob Chachere and wife Suzanne of Dayton, Jeff Chachere and wife Donna of Fort Worth, Matt Chachere and wife Alicia of Dayton; daughter, Nannette Chachere Walker and husband Robert of Dayton; sister, Betty Poorman and husband Omer of Cameron; grandchildren, Brad Chachere and wife Aimee, Lukas Chachere, Elizabeth Chachere, Jonathan Chachere, Andy Walker, Rebecca Chachere, Samantha Pasalic, Leighton Chachere, Scott Chachere, Emma Chachere, Wesley Walker, Kyle Spence and wife Liddy, and Logan Chachere; step-grandchildren, Marcie Walker Baker and husband Andy, Cody Walker and wife Meredith, Mandy Walker Reeves and Brett; great grandchildren, Stockton Chachere and Athena Spence; step great grandchildren, Bailee Walker, Rylee Walker, Jaycee Hueske, Camryn Baker, Shayne Baker, Noah Hueske, and Blakeley Reeves; brother-in-law, Gail Graves of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Kathy Fry of Dayton and Edna Belt of Woodville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Davis

Nita Gail Davis 56, of Daisetta, died Tuesday August 19, 2016 at her residence.

Nita was born January 30, 1960 to Carlton Pickering and Nita Carolyn Perkins in Oakdale, Louisiana. She had lived in Daisetta and was an homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sons, Charlie Lee Davis and James Blanchard.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Davis of Daisetta, sons, Jeremy Blanchard, John Blanchard, and Joey Blanchard all of Louisiana, daughters, Sheila Ann and Victoria, sister, Sheila Glover of Daisetta and 3 grandchildren.

Cooke

Donald Wayne Cooke 70, of Silsbee, died Tuesday August 30, 2016 at his residence in Silsbee.

Donald was born October 23, 1946 in Houston to James Zina Cooke and Eleanor Gertrude Hitchcock.

He lived in Silsbee for 12 years and was a welder and pipefitter for Apeco Refrigeration.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and wife Vickie Hunt.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Cooke of Silsbee and Jacob Paul Cooke of Alaska. Daughters, Annette Armer and husband Joey of Alabama, Barbara Killingham of California, and Cynthia Walsh of Florida, and sisters, Barbara Carroll of Lumberton, and Sandi Brock of Texas.

Grandchildren are Cody Powers, Sarah Clayton, Felicia Clayton, Tyler Walsh, Drew Walsh, Lauren Walsh, Monica Cooke, Jesse Jones, Colton and Courtney Wood and great grand child Elisa Clayton.

Donald was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved golfing his dogs, fishing and home improvement projects.

Arnold

Charlotte Louise Arnold, 74, of Dayton, died Friday, September 2, 2016. She was born on February 24, 1942 to Leroy and Bertha Tabor Grisham.

Charlotte attended Coleman High School in Coleman Texas. She was a member of the Dayton Garden Club for many years and a former member of the Dayton Young Homemakers. Charlotte enjoyed crafting and never missed an episode of Days of Our Lives. She loved spending time with family and friends. Charlotte loved her grandchildren and would always smile whenever they were around.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband of 50 years Thomas “Tom” Arnold. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son Rebel Kline and wife Chris of Ellsworth, KS; her daughter Rhonda Carr and husband Rick of Thibodaux, Louisiana; her grandchildren Stormy Calhoun and husband Kenny, Keith Kline and Frankie Kline; her great-grandchildren Paige, Emma and Kaylee Calhoun; her sister Margaret Moiser of Llano, Texas; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Charlotte will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 2pm until 3pm in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, memorial services will begin at 3pm.

McCormick

Kristie Gail Lisco McCormick, age 36 of Cleveland, Texas, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016.

She was born December 15, 1979 in Channelview, Texas to parents Gene and Eva Lisco.

Survivors include her parents, Gene Thurston Lisco and Eva Kay Hoover Lisco; son, Austin Jay Wilkie; daughter, Kayla Nicole McCormick; brother, Robbie Gene Lisco and wife April Kerr Lisco; sisters, Debra Lisco Barker and husband Shawn Bailey Barker, Gina Lisco Lowe and husband Christopher Lowe, Amy Grammer; nephews, Joshua Lisco, Jered Lowe, Kayden Sessions and Ryan Kerr; nieces, Jennifer Kerr Sessions and husband Lee Sessions, Shawna Barker and Savannah Sessions; numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.

Antoine

Peter Paul Antoine was born on June 30, 1958 to Earnest Antoine and Felicia Semien Antoine in Liberty, Texas.

Early on, he attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School in Ames, Texas and in 1976 he graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, Texas. He attended Port Arthur College and obtained a welding certificate. He worked for numerous companies including Chevron, Minimax, First State Bank, and Devers Rice Farm. Peter was skilled at gardening and dominoes, he loved fishing, but most importantly, he enjoyed life.

He was a lifelong member of Our Mother of Mercy Church where he was an alter server, usher and a volunteer at the Easter Rodeo. Additionally, he was a volunteer for the “Mo-to-Go Armadillo College Fest”.

He departed this life on August 27, 2016.

Peter was proceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Anthony Semien; sister-in-law, Beatrice Semien; and his companion, Leilani Cooper.

Peter leaves behind to cherish his memories: brothers, Wilson Semien (Lee), Aubrey Semien (Clara); sisters, Wilda MaeHughes and Audrey Antoine. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11AM, Saturday, September 2, 2016 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 101 Donatto St. Ames, Texas with Rosary service to be held at 10AM. Father Bonaface Tye, officiating.

Wells Funeral Services at 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with final arrangements.

Tanner

Tara Kay Tanner, age 52 of Hull, died August 27, 2016 in Houston, TX.

Tara was born September 23, 1963 in Baytown, TX, daughter of Bill Tom Statum and Delores Jeanette Bush Statum. Tara graduated from Dayton High School and worked as an OIC for the postal service in Sour Lake, TX. Tara loved her job and was a source of inspiration to many people. Her faith was never wavered but most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Tara was preceded in death by mother; Delores Bush Statum, her husband of thirty-four years; David Stewart Tanner, in-laws; David Ernest Tanner and Louetta Tanner, Troy and Alice Hise, grandparents; William Thomas Statum Jr, Everet Bush, Hazel Perkins, Leora Teague and sister-in-law; Lura Hanks. She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters; Ciara Tanner of Hull, Cassandra Albro and husband Danny of Moss Hill, father; Bill Tom Statum, sisters; Donna Bryce of Hardin, Dawn Fike and husband Bruce of Columbus, TX, brother; Kerry Myers of Liberty, grandchildren; Kaidyn and Laiton Albro and Mason and Hunter Goebel, niece; Lacey Goebel and nephews; Chand Hanks and Ben Bryce. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, N.Y. 10022.

Services for Tara Kay Tanner will be Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin. Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm in the chapel at Allison’s.
