Dearbonne

On June 22, 1973, God blessed this world with a beautiful baby girl.

Rhondolyn Evett Dearbonne was born to Ronald E. Dearbonne and Gwendolyn Organ in Dayton, Texas.

Evett spent her childhood with both her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Arrie Organ, in Ames, Texas, and her paternal grandparents, Clarence and Olivia Dearbonne, in Dayton, Texas.

She was nurtured and loved as much as any child could be. As a young girl, Evett was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. As a young adult, Evett was a member of St. Joseph, the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton, Texas. Evett participated in many activities in school, and was proud to be a member of the Bronco Pep Squad. She learned to play piano, and was even taught to sew by her grandmother, Pamie. Evett graduated from Dayton High School in 1991.During her junior and senior year of high school, Evett attended San Jacinto Junior College in Houston, earned an Associate degree, and passed the state test to become a licensed cosmetologist. Evett mastered her craft, and was a premier stylist thanks to Maw-Maw, who never turned down the opportunity to be her “practice dummy”.

She worked at the nationally renowned Visible Changes earning numerous awards and accolades for her work.

In July of 1997, her life changed with the birth of her son, Valentino Antonio Briggs. Three years later Evett gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Kinnidi Mitchell Briggs.

Evett worked for 8 years at Liberty County Jail before she began a career as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She worked at the prison for 11 years until she took medical leave in July of 2015. Evett was especially thankful for the friends, who were like family that she worked with at the unit. Evett held family to be the most important aspect of her life. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children and was constantly giving of herself. As a true “daddy’s girl”, she spoke with him numerous times each day, had long visits with him, and prepared all his favorite home-cooked meals. She loved to cook and decorate. Ronnie and Evett took a great deal of pride in “spoiling” each other. Evett was the perfect example of selfless love. She loved unselfishly. She gave unselfishly, and she never met a stranger.

She was content to make sure that everyone around her was always alright. “I just want you to know that I love you, and I appreciate everything that you do for me, ” she would say all the time, to the point of most of us saying, “We already know!!!” On August 9, 2014, Evett married the love of her life, Oscar Morris, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends. This love made the last two years of Evett’s life, the happiest years of her life. She had given up on love until Oscar’s love touched her heart.

Upon Evett’s diagnosis with inflammatory breast cancer in 2015, she became a champion for breast cancer awareness, urging everyone she met to make healthy life choices and to get screenings for cancer of all types. She faced each day of her illness with great courage. She became our hero.

Rhondolyn Evett Dearbonne departed from her earthly home to dwell in the presence her Heavenly Father on July 25, 2016, with her mother, Gwen, sister, Toni, and cousin, Detric at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clarence Dearbonne, Jr.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband, Oscar Morris; her children, Valentino Briggs and Kinnidi Briggs; her parents, Ronald E. Dearbonne and Gwendolyn Siner (Tony); her sisters, Toni Siner-Flanagan (Ben); five nephews; two nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. She is gone from our presence, but her life and legacy will live on in us forever.
