Griffitts

Sharon “Kay” Beard Griffitts, 58, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 25, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Linney cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Kay was born April 9, 1958 in Dayton, to parents; Jack and Ricki Williams Beard, and has been a lifelong resident of Dayton. She was a graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1976, attended the First Assembly of God Church, and was a former secretary for the ILA #28 Federal Credit Union. She also enjoyed gardening and riding motorcycles.

Mrs. Griffitts was preceded in death by her father: Jack Beard. She is survived by her husband of eight years: Dean Griffitts of Dayton, daughter: Jessica Francella Ramirez of Colorado, mother: Ricki Williams Beard of Dayton, brothers: Jr. Beard of Dayton and Ed Beard and wife Nanette of Dayton, sisters: Vickie Wegner and husband Bill of Dayton and Jackie Brightwell and husband David of Frankston, grandchildren: Meadow Dougherty, River Dougherty, and Sierra Dougherty, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Davis

Columbus Radford "Little Man" Davis of Batson, Texas died Saturday June 25, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was 58.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday June 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Inc. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will be receiving friends also on Tuesday June 28, 2016 from 12:00 noon until time of service at Faith & Family.

A native of Liberty, he had lived in Batson most of his life. He was a self employed Contract Pumper working in the Oilfield. "Little Man" as he was known loved to be outdoors, he loved riding his Harley. He was an avid deer hunter and also enjoyed building squirrel feeders.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Davis and Lucille Fregia. He is survived by his wife Elica Davis of Batson, son, Robert Davis of Odessa, and step-son, Adam Strahan of Batson. Daughter, Hannah Davis of Daisetta, and step-daughter, Ashley Strahan of Batson. Sisters, Marilyn Ainsworth of Hardin, and Elaine Ard of Batson, and father-in-law, Adam Blanchard of Batson.

Grandchildren are Darren Davis, Chelsea Davis, Hollie Davis, Robert Davis, Blake Davis all of Sour Lake.

Berryhill

Katharine Taylor Berryhill, 95 of Daisetta died June 23, 2016 in Beaumont, Texas.

Visitation will be held at Faith & Family Funeral Services of Batson on Sunday, June, 26th from 5:00-9:00pm.

Funeral services will be held at Faith & Family Funeral Services Monday, June 27th at 3:00pm. Interment will follow at Oak Dale cemetery.

Katharine (Kathleen) Taylor Berryhill a lifelong resident of Liberty County was born in Daisetta to Gilbert G. Taylor and Emma (Young) Taylor on October, 21 1920. Katharine’s life was filed with love, laughter, her husband Bill, their eight children and extended family. Katharine (Aunt Kathleen) made her life’s work providing loving care for those around her. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and crafts. Her greatest love was her family, a family she cared for selflessly. You never went hungry when you dropped by for a visit. She would always say “there’s food in the ice box”. Katharine loved to laugh and to dance. She would dance at every opportunity and a smile and laughter were her signature.

Katharine is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Berryhill, parents, Gilbert and Emma Taylor, Sons, Paul and Bennie Berryhill and many brothers and sisters.

Katharine is survived by her brother, Nolan Taylor of Taylor Settlement, loving children, John and wife Marilyn Berryhill of White Oak, Kenneth Berryhill of Beaumont, Alice and husband Richard Maresh of Ennis, Bonnie and husband Ross Morris of La Porte, Joe and wife Jane of Baytown, Renee and husband Rod Thrailkill of Baird, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Harbor Hospice of Baytown and Beaumont.

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.

Majors

Terry Travis Majors, age 58, formerly of Liberty, TX died Monday, June 21, 2016 in Honolulu, Hawaii of injuries sustained in a motor scooter accident.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Lewie Majors. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his mother, Juneid N. Majors of Liberty, TX and sisters Sherri M. Birdwell and husband John of Liberty, TX, and Joanna M. Hacker and husband Chris of Lindale, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

Terry was a 1976 graduate of Liberty High School. He then attended Baylor University for two years and later graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Botany. Terry had a passion for the flora and fauna of the Hawaiian Islands. He enjoyed his job as an office manager for a physician and working part-time on a Kona Coffee plantation. He will be remembered as an easy-going, fun-loving individual who greeted everyone with a smile.

Services for Terry Travis Majors will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 3pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2pm to 3pm.

Horne

George Handley Horne, 72, of Devers, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Memorial Hermann SE Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Fellowship cemetery in Warren, with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

George was born December 9, 1943 in Baytown, to parents; George H. and Ollie Iris Sandras Horne, a former resident of Hardin, and has resided in Devers for the past 20 years. He was a retired truck driver from Matlack Trucking. He also enjoyed collecting cast iron, antiques, and his trips to “Larry’s” Winnie Trade Days.

Mr. Horne was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 36 years: Lillian “Earlene” Williford Horne. He is survived by his daughters: Iris Hebert and husband Carl of Rye, Georgia Hanson and husband Joe of Dayton, and Katherine Tanner and husband Trent of Tarkington Prairie, brother: Michael Horne and wife Jeanette of Tarkington Prairie, special friend: Karen Johnston of Beaumont, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren with one on the way, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Evans

Devers cattle rancher, farmer and businessman Robert Boyt Evans, “Bobby” died peacefully at his home on June 22, 2016 in Devers, Texas at the age of 82.

Bobby will be forever remembered by his wife of 51 years, Cora Beth; son, Jim Bob Evans and wife Casey of Devers; four grandchildren, Luke Evans, Kennedy Evans, Reese Evans and Hutton Evans; one sister Betty Evans of Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Nancy Johnson Evans.

Bobby was born on January 9, 1934 in Beaumont, Texas to Robert and Evelyn Evans. He attended both Devers and Liberty and then went onto play football and rodeo at Texas Christian University. He graduated in 1954 with a degree in business. Coming from generations of farmers and ranchers, he continued operating the family rice farm. He loved working cattle, hunting elk and mule deer, and spending time with family and friends. Bobby was a lifetime member of the PRCA. He was involved in many civic activities including; TVE, athletic booster clubs, Mayor of Devers, Drainage District, Rice Co-op, Hospital Board and Appraisal Board.

Bobby’s love of his grandkids was evident from attending their games, school functions or just pulling in the driveway to watch them play in the yard.

A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held 10a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty, Texas. Services have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bobby's life. Memorial donations may be made to Nancy Johnson Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund care of First Liberty National Bank.

Zaruba

Ignatius Gene Zaruba, 63, of Dayton passed from his life surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Houston, Texas.

Services for Mr. Zaruba will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2016 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 before the service at 2:00 p.m.

IG was born March 7, 1953 in El Campo, Texas to parent Ignatius Gene Zaruba, Sr. and Mary Thompson Zaruba. He had been a resident of Dayton for the past 10 years and had previously moved from Highlands. He was an electrician by trade, enjoyed fishing, mowing the yard and spending time with his grandkids. He was the leader of the pack. IG’s memory will live on through the miles he’s traveled as an electrician, the friends he’s made and the lives he’s touched. His life was too short, but in Heaven there is no more pain or suffering.

Along with his father who preceded him in death, IG will be watching over his wife of 35 years, Marie White Zaruba of Dayton; his mother, Mary Daniels and husband Leo of Channelview; four sons, Ignatius G. Zaruba, III of Dayton, Matthew Scott Zaruba and wife Lacey of Dayton, Kevin Ray Zaruba and wife Candace of Highlands, and Michael Paul Zaruba of Louisiana; daughter, Stephanie Zaruba of Liberty; grandchildren, Shelbi, Skye, Caden, Drew, Garrett, Hunter, Danny, Madison, Faye Lynn, Riley, Paisley; brothers, Jerry Zaruba and wife Stacey, John Zaruba and wife Patricia, Edward Zaruba and wife Wynde, and John Zaruba; sisters, Lawana Zaruba- Bolen; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; also by his beloved Teddy.

Selman

Carl Russell “Boo” Selman, 59, of Cleveland died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at home.

Services for Boo will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton, Texas with Brother David Stark and Brother Carl Laasch officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens in Baytown, Texas.

Mr. Selman was born March 23, 1957 in Jacinto City, Texas to parents, Carl David Selman and Ester Ray Johnson Selman. He was previously of Bremond, Texas where he had worked as a brick mason. Boo enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and listening to music.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ester Selman; his father, Carl David Selman and step-mother, Manta Selman, his wives, Kristie Selman and Teena Grau Selman, his sons, Toby Russell Selman and Daniel Selman, and sister, Debra Ray Selman. Boo is survived by his son, Joshua Selman of Cleveland; daughters, Claudia Yarbrough of Baytown, Candice Selman of Pasadena, and Destiny Selman of Baytown; brothers, Robert Selman of Cleveland, David Moses and wife Penny of Arkansas, and Dennis Moses and wife Karen of Old River; sisters, Carla Selman and Pablo Acosta of Baytown, Shelah Selman of Baytown, and Carol Selman of Bremond; grandchildren, Aubrey, Kayla, Kimberly, Weslee, Brittany, Kristie, and Caitlin, Michael, Cody, Austn, Dallas, Brooklyn, Jordan and KK; nieces, Jamie Selman and Ashley Girgsby; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cotten

Melvin Glen Cotten 83 of Saratoga died Wednesday June 22, 2016 at his residence in Saratoga.

Graveside service will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Big Sandy cemetery in Big Sandy with Reverend Frank Aragon and Reverend Don Hinklin officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Flynn Hendrix, Rex Hendrix, Don Hinklin, Thump Witcher, Robert Rumsey and Cris Cobb. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Martin and Brother Jim Cryer.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday June 23, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

A native of Camp Ruby Texas, Melvin had lived in Saratoga, most of his life and was a repairman for Continental Telephone Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Saratoga, and a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by parents, William Josiah Cotten and Cora Walters. Sisters, Elsie Clamon, Trudy Kornegay, Novelle Witcher and brother Chester Cotten

Survivors are his wife, Etna Cotten of Saratoga, son, Michael Cotten and wife Paula of Batson. Daughters, Cora Rumsey and husband Robert of Sour Lake, Cindy Cobb and husband Cris of Newton. Brother, Don Cotten and wife Barbara of Houston, and sister, Floydelle Evans of Sugar Land. Grandchildren:8 and Great Grandchildren: 3

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Saratoga Building Fund in Memory of Melvin Cotten.

Laman

Thomas Alexander "Tommy" Laman Sr. of Sour Lake, died Tuesday June 21, 2016 at his residence. He was 60.

A native of Beaumont, he had lived in Sour Lake, most of his life. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Ace Fabricators in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Yates and Dona Millhollon and sister, Jeri Garcia.

Survivors is his wife, Lorrie Laman of Sour Lake, son, Tommy Laman and wife Amanda of China, and stepson, Jeff Mills and wife Danielle of Kountze.

Step daughters, Mandy Garcia and husband Miguel of Sour Lake, Leah Jackson of Sour Lake, and Sarah Jackson of Sour Lake. Sisters, Teri Warren of Sour Lake, and Kimmy Yates Hatcher of Sour Lake, and brother-in- law, Jesse Garcia of Sour Lake.

Grandchildren are Gracie Laman, Colt Laman, Ashley Garcia, Alicia Garcia, Marie Garcia, Brian Mills, Alexis Mills, Zoe Mills, Colby Watts, Jaylyn Babin, Jocelyn Nichols, John Nichols, and Kinsley Carter and numerous nieces nephews and a host of loving friends.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday June 24, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. at Millhollon cemetery in Sour Lake, with Reverend Clarence Russell officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Burtis Cartwright Jr. Mike Jackson, Bobby Ledet, Matt Smith, Bubba Daniels, Jesse Garcia, Donnie Fontenot, and Michael Hanna. Honorary pallbearers are Miguel Garcia and Jeff Mills.
