Morrison

Kenneth Ray Morrison, 70, of Dayton, Texas, left us on Thursday, June 9, 2016 to go be with the lord.

Kenneth was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, Texas. He was a distinguished vocalist who was quite proud to utilize his instrument each Sunday in the church choir. If Kenneth wasn’t performing hymns of praise to the Lord, he was directing or lending a helping hand. He was a loving Christian who took pride in community involvement and considered it his duty to place his faculties at the hands of the community.

Like most Texans, hunting played an extremely important role in Kenneth’s life. Whether he was hunting Kudu or Blue Wildebeest on the plains of South Africa with his dear friend Johan Potgieter, or teaching the next generations of his family to hunt Whitetail and water fowl in God’s paradise of Texas, simply stated, Ken was an outdoorsmen, a hunter, a conservative, but more importantly, a Texan.

Kenneth enjoyed a variety of other pursuits throughout his purposeful life, but none held dearer to his heart than watching his son, Kenny Ray, and his daughter Devrry excel at sports. He took great pride that both his daughter played collegiate volleyball and his son played division 1 football on full athletic scholarship. He was overly proud of their achievements and counted the many hours helping his children achieve their goals as his purpose as a father.

Kenneth or “Grandfather” as he was called by his Grandchildren Brock and Brody, was famous for his country cooking, which included an assortment of homemade biscuits and gravy, hash browns, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Kenneth loved his Grandchildren immensely and enjoyed having them stay at the log-house for S’mores, fireworks, and gun shooting. He was honored to buy his oldest grandchild, Brock, his first shot-gun and will forever be remembered as “Grandfather.”

It is hard to summarize the merits of a man in short prose, for the brevity leaves room for gaping swaths of err. However, to aptly describe the man, Kenneth Morrison, it should be noted that he was a beloved father and Grandfather, a distinguished business man, a genuine Texan, a Christian by salvation, an outdoorsman by choice, and one of the finest men to grace the sacred lands of Texas. May he rest in peace and wait for the day his family joins him on the other side of the glistening stars.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother Pearl Lee and father Oswald Lee Morrison. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 10 years Glenda Morrison of Dayton, Texas; his son Kenneth Ray Morrison II, and Casey Christman of Kingwood, Texas; his daughter Devrry and husband Byron Mitchell of Lewisville, Texas; his grandchildren Brock and Brody Mitchell of Lewisville, Texas; his sister Sandy and husband Larry Shipp of Temple, Texas; his brother Buddy and wife Cheryl Morrison of Schulenburg, Texas; his brother Charles and wife Trisha Morrison of Houston, Texas; his step-daughter Tina Nicole Smith of Kingwood, Texas; his step-son Christopher Glen Smith of Kahlua Kona, Hawaii; his step-grandchild Thorn Rose; his four legged companions Sampson and Cayla; and a host of extended loving family members and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, June 17, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home located at 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 106 S Cleveland St. Dayton, TX. 77535. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston, TX.
