DiCarlo

Our beautiful mother and grandmother, Lee Alice Ledet DiCarlo entered into eternal peace in her home surrounded by her loving family at her bedside on May 30, 2016.

She was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Joseph Edoise and Ursule Catherine Carlin Ledet.

Lee Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Louis Joseph DiCarlo; sons Louis DiCarlo, Jr. and Freddie Bradley; her parents; and her sisters Lucille Rawerda and Lillian Hand. She is survived by her children Jerry DiCarlo and wife Sandy, Ronnie DiCarlo and wife Mary Jo and Sandra DiCarlo Mulla and husband Vince; her 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Lee Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to us all. Her cooking skills were amazing. She moved to Anahuac, Texas in 1938, where she was an Anahuac High School cheerleader and graduated in 1939. She and her husband Louis were longtime residents of Anahuac. They were members of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church for many years. Lee Alice and Louis moved from Anahuac in late 2000 to live near their daughter and son-in-law. In 2007, she permanently moved into her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Montgomery, Texas where she resided until her death.

Lee Alice loved to socialize and play cards. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe. Lee Alice attended the Conroe Senior Center for the past 8 years where she formed many new friendships.

Thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for the wonderful, loving nurses and aides that came to our home these past weeks.

“When she crosses over and steps into the light, tell her that I love her. When the time is right, meet me at the pearly gates where every thing’s brand new. We’ll walk across God’s meadow lands where skies are always blue. Somewhere beyond the sunset every now and then, I pray she watches over me until we meet again.”

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday, June 2, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas 77514. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Sterling Funeral Home Anahuac. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Honoring the family and serving as pallbearers: Grant Bartholomew, Brandon Cates, Patrick Cates, Daniel Cates, Mark Mulla and Richard Stevenson. Honorary pallbearer will be Vince Mulla.

Holmes

Mattie Kathreen Holmes, age 89 of Baytown, died May 31, 2016 in Liberty, TX.

Kathreen was born June 1, 1926 in Hooks, TX daughter of the late Joe and Martha Allen Lynch. Kathreen graduated from Hooks High School. She was a secretary most of her life and lived in Baytown for almost forty years. Kathreen loved going to church and reading the Bible. She also loved to shop but mostly cared for wayward people when needed.

Kathreen was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Lester Legett Holmes, great-grandson; Kase Rhyder Holmes, and sister; Johnnie Carroll. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son; John Holmes and wife Renee of Hull, daughter; Mary Christina Holmes of Hull, grandson; Seth Holmes and wife Kori, step-grandchildren; Joshua Martin, Jason Peters, Kirsten Wade and husband Kolby, great-grandchildren; Denim Holmes and Cali Peters.

Services for Mattie Kathreen Holmes will be Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. Graveside services will be held at Weeks Chapel cemetery in Harrisburg, TX at 2pm. Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm in the chapel of the funeral home.

Morgan

Mary Louise Morgan, 61, died peacefully at her residence, on May 24, 2016.

Memorial Service: Saturday, June 4, 2016, 11:00 am, Wells Funeral Services, in the Althea P. Gibson Memorial Chapel. Rev. James B. Loften Jr. officiating.

Wells Funeral Services at 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with final arrangements.

Rives

Margaret Pauline Rives, age 86 of Hardin, died in Baytown, TX, May 31, 2016.

Margaret was born December 24, 1929, daughter of the late Rueben and Vader Walton Atkins. Margaret married Abner Rives and moved to the Hardin area in 1969. In the early 70’s, Abner and Margaret opened Rives Rifle Range and owned and operated that service for thirty-three years. While during that time, they also held a license from the State of Texas where they cared for deer. Abner and Margaret had a name for every deer that they owned and Margaret loved to do yard work and loved running the rifle range.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Abner Rives, brothers; Harold, J.L., Earl and Wallace Atkins. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons; Boyd Smira and wife Dixie of Hardin, Jimmy Smira and wife Janet of Florida, daughters; Geraldine Lucky of Hardin, Colleen Rose of Liberty, six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services for Margaret Pauline Rives will be Friday, June 2, 2016 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm in the chapel of the funeral home.

Love

Nancy Lurie Love, age 79 of Friendswood, died May 27, 2016 in Webster, TX.

Nancy was born February 13, 1937 in Crisfield, MD daughter of the late Aden Luther Howard and Esther Riggin Howard. Nancy graduated from Crisfield High School in Maryland and married the love of her life, Charles Edward Love Sr in 1955. They were married for thirty-eight years until the passing of Charles. She worked as a key punch operator for the Union Station Railroad and loved her crafts. Nancy was an expert seamstress and also loved to watch old movies. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Charles Edward Love Sr.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons; Charles Edward Love Jr and wife Vicki of Liberty, TX, Michael Aden Love and wife Susan of Friendswood, TX, daughter; Karen Sue Amari and husband William of Friendswood, TX, sister; JoLynn Landon and husband Charles of Crisfield, MD, grandchildren; Jessica Love, Jaimie Salmon, Jacquelyn Love, Ross Love, Robyn Majera, JoAnne Amari and six great-grandchildren.

Services for Nancy Lurie Love will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery. A short one hour visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Folkes

Thurman W. “Buck” Folkes, 90, of Dayton, died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the Baytown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Baytown.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at French cemetery in Dayton. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Buck was born April 15, 1926 in Hemphill, to parents; Willis M. and Johnnie V. Holcomb Folkes, a former resident of Liberty, and has resided in Dayton for the past 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during WW II, a member of Heights Baptist Church, and a retired driver for Dayton Vacuum. He also enjoyed wood working, fishing, and gardening.

Mr. Folkes was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Bernice Simmons Folkes, sons: Winston and Earl Folkes, daughter: Ann Simmons, brother: John W. Folkes, and sisters: Hazel Perkins, Wanda Taylor, Pauline Meeler, and Wilma Ewing. He is survived by daughter: Patricia Thompson, brother: Frank Folkes and wife Marilyn, sister: Kay Isaacks, granddaughter: Michelle Herndon and husband Ned, great-granddaughters: Barbara Jean and Landis Leann and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jones

Anna Janice Jones of Houston, Texas passed away on May 27, 2016 in Liberty, Texas at the age of 72.

She was born on June 9, 1943 in Marshall County, Alabama. She was the first of two children born to Leonard D. and Dorothy I. Yates.

Her family moved to Port Arthur, Texas during her teen years. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, in Port Arthur, Texas. Anna was a long time employee and retiree from Walgreens. Prior to that, she was employed by the Aldine Independent School District. As a devoted wife and mother, Anna volunteered frequently for her children’s school and extra-curricular activities.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Jesse L. Jones.

Anna is survived by her children Deborah L. and husband Gilbert E. Recio, Sr. of Porter, Texas, Danny L. and wife Cristine Jones of Dayton, Texas, Loretta L. and husband Julian A. Jean of Simpsonville, South Carolina; her grandchildren Robert S. Jones of Dayton, Texas, PO2 Joseph G. Longoria Jr., USN of Silverdale, Washington, William A. Davis, III of Austin, Texas, Christopher M. Davis of Houston, Texas, Maegan A. Greenwood of Dayton, Texas, Tyler N. Greenwood of College Station, Texas, her sister Delilah E. Bartholomew of Irving, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and “grand dogs” that are here to share and cherish her memory.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street, Dayton, Texas 77535. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will begin at 3pm in Memory Gardens cemetery, 3098 US 69 North, Nederland, Texas.

Honoring the family and serving as pallbearers will be Shane Jones, PO2 Joseph G. Longoria, Jr., USN, William A. Davis, III, Christopher M. Davis, Darrel R. Jones, Mark A. Parham and Jay Jean.

Helton

Doris Ann Helton, resident of Mont Belvieu, Texas, formerly of the Dayton and Kountze areas, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 in Baytown.

She was born on October 1, 1940 in Liberal, Kansas to Murrell and Katherine Stewart Davis. Doris graduated from Liberal High School and attended college at Emporia State University in Kansas.

Doris was the ultimate family woman and her family was the center of her world. Her granddaughters carry fond memories of the Hobby Lobby trips they would make with Doris.

She was a crafty lady who had many hobbies some of which included quilting, cooking, playing Bunco, Red Hats Society, bowling and dancing in her younger years.

Doris was very active throughout her years, being involved with her daughters drill team and color guard events, showing her support with fundraisers for her son’s baseball and football teams along with many other sports. One of her many activities was being a Cub Scout leader, whatever it was, you name it, Doris could do it. She loved being a fan watching her grandson and son-in-law during monster truck shows when they performed. Reading and playing computers games was just a couple of many interests that Doris had. She was always there for her children growing up, running them to all their events, sometimes being at four different places at once, now that is a super mom! She wanted her family to remember her for loving them all unconditionally all of her life

Doris and her family were residents of Kountze for 31 years before relocating to the Dayton/Mont Belvieu area where she remained for 13 years. She worked as a District Manager for Walmart and retired after 20 years of service.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband Don Allen Helton; and her brothers Charles and Leonard Davis. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Terri Jordan and husband Larry Jordan, Sr. of Mont Belvieu, Debra “Debbie” Theal and husband John of Kountze, Ty Helton and wife Avah of Fate, TX and Brett Helton of Houston; her grandchildren Larry Jordan, Jr. and wife Tania, Jenna Theal, Ashley Helton, Kaitlyn Gassett and husband Cody, Julie Theal, Amber Helton, Tyler Helton and Victoria “Tori” Helton; and her 4 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; and numerous extended family members and friends. Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends are invited to visit with the family starting from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home located at 602 N. Main in Dayton. A graveside service and committal will be held at 2pm on Sunday, May 29, 2016 in Hooks cemetery, Kountze, Texas.

Gutierrez-Garay

Jose Omar Gutierrez-Garay, 25, of Dayton, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jose was born July 31, 1990 in Guanajuato, Mexico to parents; Pedro Gutierrez and Maria Asencion Garay-Gutierrez, and has resided in Dayton for the past ten years. He was employed as a waste technician for Brighteyes Enterprises and attended St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. He also enjoyed his work and spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Gutierrez-Garay is survived by his father: Pedro Gutierrez of Dayton, mother: Maria Asencion Garay-Gutierrez of Dolores Hidalgo Mexico, brothers: Adrian Gutierrez of Dayton, Jose Gutierrez of Dayton, Concepcion Gutierrez of Dayton, Gerardo Gutierrez of Dayton, Alfredo Gutierrez in Dayton, and Salvador Gutierrez of Dayton, sisters: Anabel Contreras of Arlington, Alma Cecilia Gutierrez-Garay of Dolores Hidalgo Mexico, and Maria Rocio Gutierrez-Garay of Dolores Hidalgo Mexico, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Brown

Thaddeus Earl Brown (Thad) was born on February 19, 1962 in Liberty, Texas to the late Link and Wilma Brown. He was the eighth of nine siblings, deeply loved by his family and thoroughly spoiled by his sisters.

Thad graduated from Liberty High School in 1980. In 1989, he married Sonya D. Mouton. Thad accepted Christ at a very early age and was a member of Mount Rose Baptist Church. He also was an active member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #146 and served as treasurer. He enjoyed sports, especially hunting, fishing, and all types of music. He was well known for his jokes, stylish dress and captivating smile. Thad was a very kind, loving, and generous man. He didn’t hesitate to help someone in need. Through our challenges on this life’s journey, God gave us many opportunities to bond and grow closer as a family. Thaddeus was a tremendous dad and dearly loved his children. Thad’s favorite phrase affectionately spoken to his family was, “You can be made to.” He will be greatly missed.

Thad was preceded in death by his parents, Link and Wilma Brown, grandmother, Lola Martin, half-sister, Gloria Coleman, brother-in-law, Wilson Pickens Sr. nephews, Lance A. Pickens and Azeem D. Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories: loving children, Hailey Gordon of Raleigh, North Carolina, Evan (Tessa) Brown of San Marcos, Texas and Sydney Brown of Dayton, Texas; one granddaughter, Ye’Liah Whitley of Raleigh, North Carolina; Siblings; Lola Herman of Raywood, Texas, Pearlie Brown of Ames, Texas, Gloria Pickens and Tracy Brown of Highlands, Texas, Wilma Elaine (David) Moore and Connie (Lonnie) Webb of Beaumont, Texas; Larry (Maria) Brown of Raywood, Texas, and Link Jr. (Cynthia) Brown of Liberty, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be held 11AM Saturday May 28, 2016 at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, 808 Washington Ave. Liberty, Texas. Visitation for Thaddeus will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in Wells cemetery.

Hall

Ethel Jeanette “Jean” Hall, age 87 of Brazoria formerly of Liberty died May 23, 2016 at her residence in Brazoria.

Jean was born April 9, 1929 in Helena, AK, daughter of the late Walter and Myrtle Garner Knotgrass. Jean and her husband, Jimmy Hall, were owners of Hall’s Garage in Liberty from 1966 to 1990 where they sold their business to their son, James Hall. Jean loved to dance, play bingo, play games with her family but mostly loved to bowl. She entered bowling tournaments all of the country.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Jimmy Hall, son; Butch Taylor, daughters; Donna Graham, Mary Trujillio, grandson; Danny Hall, brothers; Charles and Edward Knotgrass, sister; Helen Tapley and son-in-law; Phillip Graham.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons; James Hall and wife Laura of Brazoria, TX, Roy Hall of Victoria, TX, Allen Hall and wife Dottie of St. George, UT, eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Ethel Jeanette “Jean” Hall will be Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Fairlawn cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm in the chapel at the funeral home.
