Haley

Jacquelyn Willena Haley, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 in Panama City Beach, Florida. She was born on August 24, 1930 in Dayton, Texas to Morgan and Mary Dee Riley Laird.

Jackie was a native of Dayton, who attended Dayton High School and was a twirler and played the flute. She had many hobbies some of which included her love for animals, family gatherings, fish frys and pinto beans, fishing, and playing church music on the keyboard around her house. Jackie was known as a loving, caring, kind and generous, never turning anyone or any animal away. She cared deeply for her family and she cared for all animals from wild to domestic, raising foxes, owls, ferrets, alligators, chicken, geese, a skunk and a horse. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd E. Haley, Sr.; her brother Sidney L. Laird; and son-in-law Curtis Willis. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children Floyd E. Haley, Jr. and wife Karen of Dayton, Alma D. Fortson of Panama City Beach, Florida, Maye Willis of Lufkin, Texas, Jaye Haley of Lufkin, Texas, Tandy Cox and husband H.L. and their working service dogs of Vidor, Texas and Wesley F. Haley and wife Angel of Dayton; her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; her two great great-grandchildren; her brothers, Curtis Laird and wife Erica of Dayton and Morgan Laird of Fabens, Texas; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, April 21, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home located at 602 North Main Street in Dayton. Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park, 2421 Highway 146, Dayton.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Jackie’s honor to Puppy-Dogs-R-Us, 385 CR 6021, Dayton, Texas 77535.

Hisler

Ruth Nadine Ford- Hisler 79, of Oak Island, Texas died Apr. 18, 2016 peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Service will be Apr. 21, 2016 at Christian Community Fellowship Church, 442 Eagle Road, Oak Island, TX. A gathering of Family and Friends for the visitation will begin at 1 P.M. until Funeral at 3 P.M.. Interment will be in Anahuac cemetery, Anahuac, TX.

Ruth was born January 3rd 1937 to the proud loving parents, Marion R. Ford and Ritchie Pearl Stone-Ford in Idaville, Organ. Ruth attended Brimington High School in Washington. She met her husband Billy in Brimington where he was stationed in the Navy. They moved to Baytown, Texas and from there to Oak Island where together they owned an Oyster House and Shrimp Boat. She ran the Oyster House and was cashier at Hisler’s Grocery for approximately twenty years. Ruth loved cooking and baking, her home was filled with love and great tasting food, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. The pecan pies and banana nut bread fill the home. She helped raise her grandchildren and loved them all dearly. She was the “ROCK” of the family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her Husband: Billy Gene Hisler; Parents: Marion and Ritchie Ford; Sister: Eunice Southall; Nephew: Burton Southall; Niece Barbara Southall; Grandchildren: James Kennedy and Olivia Curiel.

She leaves to mourn her loving memories Daughters: Sharon Kennedy (Fiancé´ Scott Culotta) and Billie Jean Gersbach; Grandchildren: Misty (Fiancé´’ Hollis), April (Husband Quincy), Sheldon, Amy (Husband Victor) and Matt (Fiancé´’ Paige). Great Grandchildren; Nephew: Bart Southall and Niece: Brenda Hurt and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Hisler’s services have been entrusted to Proctor's Mortuary (Location in Anahuac, Beaumont, Silsbee and Woodville, TX.) .

Zorn

Mary Ann Zorn, age 70 of Dayton, died at Heritage Villa Nursing Home in Dayton on April 17, 2016 with her loving family by her side.

Mary Ann was born October 29, 1945 in Raleigh, NC daughter of the late Bob and Ruth Elizabeth Barnett Alexander. She worked as an assistant therapist at Liberty Hospital. Ruth Ann lived most of her life in Liberty and then moved to Dayton in her later years.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Manford Zorn, sons; John Raymond Vickery, Daniel Manford Zorn and daughter; Tina Ann Parga. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son-in-law; Juan Parga and wife Linda of Liberty, brothers; Ronnie Martin and wife Nelda of Dayton, Tommy Martin and wife Brenda of Liberty, David Martin and wife Sally of College Station, TX, Andy Martin of Crosby, sisters; Linda Ainsworth and husband Loren of Texarkana, TX, Patsy Strickland, grandchildren; Larissa and Joey Parga of Liberty.

Graveside services for Mary Ann Zorn will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1pm at Cooke cemetery in Liberty. Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Sherman

Margaret Ann Fitzgerald Sherman, 63, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at a later date, at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Margaret was born September 21, 1952 in Houston, to parents; Henry Lee and Rosa Lee Landers Fitzgerald, a former resident of Splendora, and has resided in the Cleveland area for the past 25 years. She was a graduate of MacArthur Hugh School and a machinist by trade. She enjoyed collecting and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans football. Margaret was also a member of the women’s professional football league and roller derby in her younger years.

Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brothers: Henry Lee Fitzgerald and wife Gail of Hockley and Donald Ray Fitzgerald and wife Wanda of Cleveland, nephew: Billy Fitzgerald of Spring, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Thornton

Linda Lou Thornton, 67, of Coldspring died Monday, April 11, 2016.

The family will receive friends a 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Coldspring.

Linda was born November 9, 1948 in Hazard, Kentucky to parents, Nathan Dalton and Helen Comb Dalton. She was a long time resident of Cold Spring after moving from Houston and worked for many years in trucking. Linda enjoyed gardening, reading, and her dogs but most of all she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Dalton and Helen Comb Cornett; brother, Sonny Dalton; son, Russell “Rusty” Thornton, and grandson, Brandon Thornton. She is survived by her lifelong partner, Linda Little of Coldspring; daughters, Lisa Ward-Elzey and husband Robert of Deer Park, Paula Kelly and wife Terri of Manvel and Misty Thornton of Conroe; sisters, Debbie Hodges of Porter and Donna Odem of Pasadena; brothers, Skipper Cornett of Columbus, Scotty Cornett of Deer Park, John Cornett of Porter, Gary Clay of Kentucky, and Kenneth Cornett of Texas City; grandchildren, Dustin, Tiffany, Cameron, Krystin, Jesse, Johnny, and Cheyenne; great-grandchildren, Breeanna, Adrian, Michael, Cohen and Trey; also numerous other relatives and friends.

Whittington

Fritz Whittington 68, of Hankamer, TX. died Apr. 11, 2016.

Services will be held Saturday, Apr. 16, 2016, at St Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 213 Albritton Gully Rd. Hankamer, TX. Pastor; Calvin Nichols. Visitation will begin at 9AM until funeral at 11AM. Interment will be in Whittington cemetery, Hankamer.

Mourning his departure, yet cherishing his memories are spouse: sister: Juanita Whittington, brothers: L.J. Whittington, Sherman Whittington (Trudy), Howard Whittington(Kathy), Kenneth Whittington (Chante), Herman Whittington (Denise) all of Hankamer and Mikle Whittington of Anahuac, and a host of nieces, nephew’s other relatives and friends.

Mazzola

Elaine Matthews Mazzola, 71, of Dayton, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, with services concluding thereafter. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Elaine was born April 25, 1944, in Livingston, to parents; Winfred and Doris Kerr Matthews, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Dayton for the past 21 years. She was a graduate of the Northshore High School and a homemaker. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and all of their activities.

Mrs. Mazzola was preceded in death by her parents and son: Randy Matthews. She is survived by her husband of 44 years: Frank T. Mazzola of Dayton, son: Dean Mazzola and wife Kristy of Flower Mound, daughters: Gai-Lynn Mazzola Sudduth of Dayton and Timber Nettles and husband Mike of Livingston, brother: Wayne Matthews of Baytown, grandchildren: Michael Sudduth, Scotty Sudduth, Joey Mazzola, Christopher Mazzola, Lynette Matthews, Tonya Matthews Commiato, Craig Nettles and wife Kyla, Kevin Nettles, Derek Matthews, Ryan Matthews, Vincent Mazzola, Madelyn Mazzola, Nicholas Mazzola, and Nina Mazzola, great-grandchildren: Christiana Matthews, Keirra Crocker, Shaun Crocker, Caden Crocker, Seth Savage, and Alexandria Elaine Savage, great great-grandchild: Kade Nettles, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Crouthers

James Edward Crouthers, Jr., 62, of Liberty, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Wilderness Church of God at 1238 CR 158, Liberty, Texas, with burial following at the Wilderness cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, at the church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

James was born September 18, 1953 in Liberty, to parents; James E., Sr. and Naomi Nugent Crouthers, and has been a lifelong resident of Liberty. He was a graduate of the Liberty High School class of 1973. His work experience included oilfield and heavy equipment operation with Brown and Root, delivery driver for Klemp, and Liberty County Precinct 1 Road and Bridge Department. James also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and building model airplanes.

Mr. Crouthers was preceded in death by his father: James E. Crouthers, Sr. and brother: David Earl Crouthers, Sr. He is survived by his mother: Naomi Nugent Crouthers of Liberty, wife of 27 years: Priscilla Johnson Crouthers of Liberty, son: James E. Crouthers and wife Regina of Liberty, daughter: Cristina Naomi Wall and husband Justin of Kingwood, stepsons: Jeff Connell of North Carolina and Brad Conwell of North Carolina, brothers: Columbus “Buster” Crouthers and wife Viola of Arkansas and Daymon Crouthers and wife Penny of Liberty, sisters: Evelyn “Sudie” Satterwhite and husband Ben of Liberty, Jenny Able and husband Sim “Hobo” of Liberty, and Lillie Tinney and husband Frank of Liberty, in-laws: Becky Adkins, Steve Johnson, Ginger Fritts, and Jade Denney all of Indiana, and numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Redmon

Nelson Redmon, 85, a resident of Dayton, Texas, died Wednesday, April 06, 2016, at a local hospital in Baytown.

Nelson "Bo" Redmon was born to Charles & Viola Redmon in Moss Bluff, Texas on December 23, 1930. He attended school in Moss Bluff. He worked as a general contractor in and around Liberty County. He taught his nephews and other young men of the community the trade of AC and construction. Bo was family oriented and stressed the importance of family relationship and community support.

He married Gladys Marie Redmon in 1965 and to this union was born, Viola Evette Redmon Edwards, Tamara Lanette Redmon, and Tracie Yevonne Redmon all of Liberty, Texas.

Bo was preceded in death by his parents: Charles & Viola Redmon, Four Sisters: Mimie Jones, Delia Grove, Charlene Radford, and Geraldine Halton. Three Brothers: Charles Redmon Jr., Earl Redmon and William Redmon. Three Children: Nelson Redmon Jr., Deborah Redmon, and Tamara Redmon.

He leaves to cherish his memories, one sister, Bertha Redmon of Liberty, Texas, two brothers: Roland Redmon (Judy) of Chester, Virginia and Tollie Redmon of Jacksonville, Florida. Two children: Tracie Redmon of Highland, Texas and Viola Edwards of Baytown, Texas, and seven grand-children.

Also cherishing his memories Special Friend: Patricia Boose, eight stepchildren, a host of step-grandchildren and step great grand-children. Nelson also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.

Freeman

Juanita Leggington Freeman, 84, a resident of Raywood, Texas died April 8, 2016 at 2:00 A.M., after a long battle with Alzheimer, at her residence in Raywood, Texas.

Juanita was born August 9, 1931 to the Late John and Sally Leggington. Juanita grew up in Silsbee, Texas where she attended Waldo Matthew High School. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees from Prairie View A & M University, and her Library Science Certification from Sam Houston State University.

Juanita accepted Christ at an early age, when she accepted the teaching position at Woodson she met the late John Freeman, Sr. they got married on July 17, 1954. She did her student teaching in Raywood at Carter G. Woodson. Later that year Mr. Walter P. Fontenot offered her a teaching job. Juanita had no way to get there and her dear friend and family member told her to take the job he would get her there. Thanks to Mr. Lewis (Bubba) Hodge she spent her entire teaching career in the Raywood area. She started at Woodson but the school was later changed and became the Hull-Daisetta School. She retired on May 31, 1993.

Later became Catholic as most of the in the community was catholic. She was a devoted Catholic and loved praying the rosary. She would lead the rosary every Saturday before the mass.

Juanita would even recite it when the Priest would visit her in the past few months, although she was weak she did not miss a word.

She served her family, Church, and community well. She taught religious education over thirty years, served on the Hull-Daisetta School Board, the Raywood Water Supply Board, St Peter Claver Court 83 where she was the financial secretary over thirty years; she was Texas State Deputy, and a Charter Member Knights of Peter Claver – Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace Division, Inez Y. Bowman Chapter #2.

Also she maintained the financial books for the church over thirty years and served on Finance Committee and Co-chairman Bishop Faith Appeal.

For twelve years Juanita served as the Vice President for the Altar Society, and numerous of years she was in charge of the lectors and Eucharistic ministers.

Education has always been a big part of her life and after retirement she became a member of the Big Brother & Sister Organization and mentoring program at Hull-Daisetta Elementary where she would mentor several students each year. She would always work the election polls as she thought it was very important to cast your vote so you could have a voice.

Some of her lifelong memberships and organizations are Texas State Teachers Associations, Liberty County Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, National Advancement Association of Colored People (NAACP), Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and Prairie View A & M Alumni Association. Her awards include Texas State conference expertise in expansion to KPCLA 1978-1986, Parishioner of the Year: 1991, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001, 40 years of Dedicated & Outstanding Contribution Hull-Daisetta ISD 1953-1993, Outstanding Leadership KPC Court 83 1976, Monsignor Richard DeStefano Faithful Steward Nominee 2006 and 2008, Hull-Daisetta ISD Board of Trustee Secretary 1996-2003, Dorothy Barker Honor Award 2006-2007, and Inez Y. Bowman Chapter 2 Ladies of Grace 35th Anniversary Medal.

She leaves behind two children John Lane Freeman, Jr. (Annette) of Robstown, Texas; and Frederick Manuel Freeman, Sr. (Tonya) of Raywood, Texas, two grandchildren John Lane Freeman, III and Frederick Manuel Freeman, Jr. Two brothers: Jason Gradney (Marva) of Spring, Texas, and Vernon Gradney (Magdalene) of Raywood, Texas, and one sister Annette Scott (Richard) of Dayton, Texas, one brother in law Arthur C. Hobbs, of Mexia, Texas and three sisters in laws: Rodis Freeman of Austin, Texas, Mary Ann Leggington of Houston, Texas, and Carolyn Leggington of Beaumont, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation Services: Friday, April 15, 2016, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Wells Funeral Services in the Althea P. Gibson Chapel, 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas. She will lie-in-state Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 9:00 am, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3730 FM 160 N, Raywood, Texas. Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am, Rev. Father Ayo Emmanuel Efodigbue, MSP, officiating. Interment in Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery, Raywood, Texas.
