Gerald “Bullfrog” Barrett 63, of Anahuac died Mar. 24, 2016.

Services will be Apr. 02, 2016 at Oak Island Baptist Church, Oak Island, TX. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1 P.M. until funeral beginning at 3 P.M.. Burial will take place in Jackson cemetery in Double Bayou, TX.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents: Roland and Beatrice Barrett, son: Tommy W. Barrett, siblings: David Barrett and Shirley Canfield.

Family members who will cherish his memories are wife: Michelle L. Barrett. Children: Billy Jack Barrett and wife Dallas, Kelly Mancina, Charlie Ray Barrett and wife Rhonda, Audrey N. Barrett, Madison R. Barrett and Jacob R. Barrett. Siblings: Linda Wilcher, Jeannie Rigby and husband Mike and Kenneth Barrett and wife Darlene. 10- Grandchildren: Chance Barrett, Kyleigh Barrett, Billy Jack Barrett II, Jaida Sha Barrett, Bridgett LeAnn Fox, Acelin Kiara Barrett, Ashley M. Weaver-Barrett, Meghan Star Thomas, Raven Mancina and John Mancina as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Barrett’s services have been entrusted to Proctor's Mortuary (Location in Anahuac, Beaumont, Silsbee and Woodville, TX).

Simon

Guy W. Simon, Sr., age 78, was born on January 26, 1938 to Doris and Numa Simon. He was dedicated to his Lord, family and his job.

Guy spent most of his life as a heavy equipment operator, starting at the age of nineteen with Baron Smith at downhill Anahuac Park unloading shells off of barges. He operated all types of heavy equipment from road work with the State to setting vessels in the plants all over the area, really enjoying what he did.

Guy was active in the church building and grounds, teaching Sunday School and V.B.S. but most importantly, he was a prayer warrior.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Harvey and Lee Simon; his children Lester Simon, Guy W. Simon, Jr. and Kay Morris; his mother-in-law, whom he had a special bond Minnie Mitchum; brother-in-law Rick Bilyeu; and granddaughter Tabbatha Chaplain. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; son T.C. Simon and girlfriend Donna of Wallisville; daughter Marie Middleton and husband Kent of Alvin, Texas; daughter-in-law Dawn Simon; sister-in-laws Marily Bilyeu of Denver, Colorado and Jo Jo Simon of Oak Island; brother-in-laws David Mitchum of Paducah, Kentucky; Phillip and wife Debbie of Rialto, California; special aunt Mary Gilman of Wallisville; and numerous other extended family, friends and co-workers.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5pm until 8pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Sterling Funeral Home, Anahuac. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Honoring the family and serving as pallbearers will be T.C. Simon, Brian Simon, Brandon Middleton, Kyle Jones, J.R. Brown and David Mitchum, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be David Mitchum, Sr., Norman Mitchum, Kenneth Hill, Wayne Leger and Eddie Gallaway.

Porter

Jessie Elizabeth Porter, of Dayton, Texas died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in Dayton.

She was born on March 5, 1987 in Baytown to Mark Porter and Kaye Abshere Porter. Jessie worked as a bartender and would often work events at Reliant Stadium. She was outgoing, rebellious, highly intelligent, artistic, nurturing and as stubborn as they get.

Jessie was the youngest of three girls; however she was the boss and knew how to get her way. Jessie was a multifaceted girl from cheerleading to playing football. She enjoyed the band TOOL and attending concerts with her friends. She loved fishing and has had a wide variety of animals. Jessie never had a shy bone in her body and was up for any dare. Jessie will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jessie was preceded in death by her fraternal grandparents Margie and Zack Porter; maternal grandmother Robbie Abshere; and her daughter Kitana Elizabeth Aguilera. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her father Mark Porter and wife Tana of Anahuac, Texas; her mother Kaye Porter of Dayton, Texas; her son Chazz Aguilera of Dayton, Texas; her sisters Laura Meyer of Wallisville, Texas and Kristi Porter of Anahuac, Texas; her nieces and nephews Kaden, Keeli, Kassidy, Hannah and Hunter; her maternal grandfather Norman C. Abshere of Port Neches, Texas; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1pm until 2pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home located at 1201 S. Main Street in Anahuac. Funeral services will begin at 2pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made in Jessie’s honor to the charity of your choice.

Calhoon

Thomas Franklin Calhoon III, age 89 of Liberty, died March 30, 2016 in Liberty, TX.

Thomas was born May 30, 1926 in Liberty, son of the late Thomas F. Calhoon Jr and Grace Lee Maywald Calhoon. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1943 and then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. After two months at the postal service, Thomas entered into the U.S. Navy in July of 1943 and served his country until May of 1946 where he received an honorable discharge. He then went back to work for the postal service. In 1961, Thomas was appointed as postmaster at the Liberty Post Office. This made him a third generation postmaster in his family. He continued as postmaster until 1981 where he retired with thirty-eight years of service. Thomas was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberty and worked twenty-seven years as the treasurer for the church. He was also a member of the Men’s Bible Class, Elks Lodge and past president of the Quarterback Club. In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed sewing and needle point.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Mary Ann Calhoon, sisters; Joyce Calhoon, Pat Cousins and her husband Marvin, and great-granddaughter; Hadlee Wheeler.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, son; Frank Calhoon and wife Jeannine of Arlington, TX, daughter; Joanna Schimek and husband Ottmar of Anahuac, TX, grandchildren; Jennifer Calhoon-Hutcherson of Arlington, TX, John Thomas Wheeler of Anahuac, TX, Christopher Calhoon of Austin, TX, Daniel Wheeler of Cameron, TX, Meredith Schimek of Anahuac, TX, Taylor Schimek of Bartlett, TX and nine great-grandchildren.

Services for Thomas Franklin Calhoon III will be Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church in Liberty with burial to follow at Liberty City cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Tanner

Edward Tanner 73 of Daisetta, died on Tuesday March 29, 2016 at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday April 1, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Inc. with Reverend Sean Leick officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Serving as pallbearers are Alan Tanner, Jon Tanner, Edward Tanner, Jeremiah Johnson, Richard Fregia, and Wesley Dickie. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Fenton, Brian Fenton and Jeremy Johnson.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday March 31, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Chapel.

A native of Bay City, TX he had lived in Daisetta. He had worked as a mechanic for B.J. Ford of Liberty.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Tanner of Daisetta. Sons, Jonathan Tanner and wife Chrystal of Rosharon, Alan Tanner and wife Heather of Daisetta, Edward Tanner and wife Linda of Raywood, and Richard Fregia and wife Dawn of Daisetta.

Daughters, Ashley Johnson and husband Jeremiah of Daisetta, Jessica Johnson and husband Jeremy of Anahuac, Leslie Fregia and Ashley Fregia both of Daisetta. Brother, Johnny Tanner and wife Patricia of Raywood.

Sisters, June Fregia and Jamie Holifield of Cleveland, Joyce Cooley and Johnny Lafour of Hull, Doris Gordon of Batson, and Judy Dulaney of Cleveland.

Grandchildren: 32 Great- Grandchildren: 8

Ratcliff

Ernest Gordon Ratcliff of Montgomery, TX, died on Wednesday March 23, 2016 at Heritage Oaks Assisted Living Center of Conroe. He was 89.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday March 28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Honea Baptist Church 16430 FM 2854 Rd. in Montgomery, TX. Interment with military honors will be held also on Monday March 28, 2016 at Houston National cemetery at 1:30 P.M.

A native of Kirbyville, he had lived in Montgomery, TX for 16 years after moving from Gist, TX. He was a member of The Honea Baptist Church and a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Rita Sanford Ratcliff of Montgomery, TX, son, Steve Ratcliff and wife Debbie of Conroe. Daughter, Janet Brown and husband Sonny of Montgomery, TX.

Serving as pallbearers W.H. "Sonny Brown (son-in-law), Richard A. Brown (grandson), Stephen B. Ratcliff (grandson), Shannon Yarbrough (nephew), Kyle D. Hamblin (grandson-in-law), James B. Short (grandson-in-law, Mark A. Nilsen (close family friend), and Honorary Pallbearer Rayford Woods (first cousin).

Kane

William James Kane age 85, formally of East Greenville, PA., had retired to Warner Robins, GA., (Plumbing & Heating Business), for the past ten years, died, Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Pine Pointe Hospice, Macon, Georgia.

He was born July 10, 1930, to the late Joseph H. and Susan (Hagerty) Kane, Chestnut Hill, PA., with late brothers John and Joseph Kane, and surviving brother, Andrew Kane of Blue Bell, PA.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-one years, Rita (Colagreco) Kane of Warner Robins, GA., her sons John F. Kane of Zionsville, PA., and James J. Kane of East Greenville, PA., his daughters Mariana (Kane) Rivera and husband Wilfredo of Boyertown, PA., Linda A. (Kane) Bradshaw and husband J.D. of Clark, TX. In addition he leaves his grandchildren Justin Kane and wife Amanda, Jayda Kane all of Zionsville, PA., Hayden Bradshaw of Clark, TX., as well as his great grandchildren Madilynn and Ryan Kane of Zionsville, PA.

A funeral mass will be held 10AM Friday April 1, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Liberty, Texas with burial to follow in Liberty Catholic cemetery. Arrangements to be finalized for a memorial mass at a later date at St. Phillip Neri Church in Pennsburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Rita Kane at PO Box 246 Rye, Texas 77369. Arrangements have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

Morris

Judith A. “Judy” Carter Morris, 76, of Dayton, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Judy was born August 9, 1939… in Houston, to parents; Arthur and Viola Herring Carter, a former resident of Pasadena, and has resided in Dayton for the past 21 years. She was a homemaker, member of the Order of Eastern Star, and First United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed travel, gardening, playing cards, fishing, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 56 years: Collins E. Morris, Jr., and great-grandson: Collin Fontenot. She is survived by her daughters: Susan Garcia and husband Ray of Dayton, Sharron Bullion and husband Edgar of Trinity, and Julie Reagan and husband Kevin of Conroe, 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Burch

Zhanell Sonnia Yackel Burch, 55, of Old River, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2016, at a relative’s residence in Brazoria.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with services concluding thereafter. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Zhanell was born April 28, 1960 in Palacios, to parents; Billy Yackel and Martha Bowen, a former resident of Highlands, and has resided in Dayton for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed stain glass, crocheting, gardening, travel, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Burch was preceded in death by her father: Billy Yackel and mother: Martha Bowan Matlock. She is survived by her husband of 18 years: Eddy Burch of Old River, son: Gregory Miller and wife Brandi of Columbus, daughter: Teonna Flowers and husband Kenneth of Winnie, stepson: Brennan Burch of Pasadena, stepdaughters: Amy Bordovsky and husband Jon of Pasadena and Darcy Heard and husband Justin of League City, sisters: Sheila Irwin and husband Randy of Brazoria, Sarah Yackel of Edna, and Rachel Yackel of Edna, brother: Woody Matlock of Concan, stepfather: Dean Matlock of Concan, grandchildren: Rosie Johnson, C. J. Johnson, Kaitlynn “Dezi” Miller, Dylan Miller, Hayden Bordovsky, Ben Bordovsky, Iris Bordovsky, Evan Heard, and Nathan Burch, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Nelson

Benjamin “Ben” Harrison Nelson, 77, of Smith Point died Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Houston, TX surrounded by his loved ones.

Ben was born December 6, 1938 in Smith Point to Cornelius and Jewel Nelson. He graduated from Anahuac High School then joined the Navy and served for 4 years. While enlisted he met the love of his life Betty “Jeri” Smith and immediately after discharge they married on January 19, 1962 and returned to Smith Point where he lived his life in its entirety. They had two sons and one daughter. They started Jeri’s Seafood in 1970. Ben was known for being direct. He would not accept “no” as an answer or “it can’t be done”. He never hesitated and forward was the only direction he knew. Many people admired and respected him for these traits, others not so much. He always said, “Friends come and go, enemies accumulate”.

Together Ben and Jeri built an empire and he left a legacy that lives on. Passing his knowledge of oysters, his respect for Galveston Bay, and advocating for the protection and conservation of the Texas oyster resource onto his descendants and employees was one of his greatest accomplishments.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeri, his mother Jewel and his dog Sheila; his son Walter “Runt” Nelson, his wife Kathy. Daughter, Terri Woody, her husband Tracy. Grandchildren Amber Ayres, Britney Underwood, Justin Woody, Angela Waits, Bethany Woody. Great Grandkids, Jayden and Jake Ayres, Rouxel Waits, Braxten Woody, Blane and Braylin Underwood. His siblings, Necil Kelley and Edward Nelson. He is also survived by numerous family, friends and employees.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Nelson, his son, Ben Nelson and his brother Cornelius “Joe” Nelson.

Honoring the family and serving as pallbearers will be Mark Porter, Dave Wilcox, Allen Wilcox, Ben Beaoui, Brian Hawthorne, Jim Glock, Dee Leggett and Mark Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Dartez, Fulgencio Landin, Pascual Plancarte, Victor Mendoza, Jose Pescador, Rosario Perez, Ruben Perez and Gabriel Hernandez.
