Savage

Belva Claire Ball Savage, died on March 6, 2016 at the age of 90 in Cleveland, Texas. She was born August 16, 1925 to William Lafayette and Lela Custer Brown Ball in Beverly, near Natchez, Mississippi.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation Tuesday, March 8, 6-8 at Pace-Stancil; Services Wednesday, March 9, 2 pm, First United Methodist Church Dayton; interment at Magnolia Park cemetery.

She graduated from Natchez High School and attended Louisiana State University. After one year at LSU, she dropped out to support the WWII effort by serving as an office worker in a New Orleans factory that built PBY Catalinas, a sea-going plane. When the war ended, she returned to college, graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, and began teaching high school home economics. In 1949 she married Harold W. Savage, whom she met when they were students at UT Austin.

After a move to Dayton, Texas in 1955, and a few years off to nurture their young family, she returned to teaching. She taught 3rd grade in Dayton for nearly 30 years. She liked 3rd grade because the students had already learned some academic skills but still loved their teachers. During that time she earned her master's degree, with a reading specialty. She retired from teaching to care for her elderly mother. She was a life-long educator, tutoring children during her retirement through the Big Brothers & Big Sisters program and returning occasionally to the classroom.

Belva was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Dayton, where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for many years and was involved in the church’s women activities.

She was a skilled seamstress, enjoyed reading, going to museums, crafts, making jellies & preserves, and the beach. She delighted in her grandchildren!

Belva is predeceased by her parents; husband of 60 years, Harold W. Savage; son, Bill Savage; son-in-law, Lee Burch; in-laws Jim & Betty Savage and Howard Reeves.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Lea Ellen Burch and Becky & Brad Burditt, of Dayton; daughter-in-law, Donna Savage, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren: Emily Morris, and husband, Dave, Daniel Burch, Ashley Burditt, Claire Stiles, and husband, Blake, Jake Savage, Tyler Burditt, and Phillip Burch, along with three great-grandchildren. In addition, Belva's sister and her husband, Ann and Jack Quinn of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, June Reeves of Kingwood, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive her.

Our family greatly appreciates the loving care given to Belva by the staffs of Country Haven Senior Care, Feels Just Like Home, and Professional Health Care-Hospice. All of you touched our lives.

Love

Joel Columbus Love, Jr., age 65 of Coldspring, Texas, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born July 18, 1950 in Huntsville, Texas to parents Joel C. Love, Sr. and Ynette West Love who preceded him in death along with his wife of 15 years, Sharon Kay Hickman Love; and sister, Patricia Worthen.

He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting, fishing and his beloved dogs. Throughout his life he held several important positions, some of which were Air Traffic Controller at Ellington Field as well as a Deputy for San Jacinto County. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Coldspring and the American Legion Post #629 chaplain and Sgt. at Arms.

Survivors include his son, Joel Love, III of Pasadena, Texas; daughter, Robin Murray and husband Lucas of Deer Park, Texas; step-daughter, Deanna Robb and husband John of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Shena and Logan; great-grandchild, Connor; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Coldspring, Texas.

Murphy

Jimmie Darrell Murphy 68 of Saratoga, died on Thursday March 3, 2016 at his residence.

A service of remembrance will be held on Sunday March 6, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Mike Loftin and Reverend Bill Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Felps cemetery in Thicket.

Serving as pallbearers are Craig Murphy, Eric Noack, D.J. Hall, Dustin Hall, Michael Murphy, and Brady Murphy.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday March 5, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

A native of Liberty, he had lived in Saratoga, and had worked for L & W Swabbing of Saratoga. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Murphy Jr. and Lillian Rose. Brothers, Roy Douglas Murphy and Joe Harvey Murphy.

Those surviving him are his loving wife, Jeri' Murphy of Saratoga. Sons, Robert Murphy and wife Shawndra of Batson, John Murphy and wife Amanda of Strasburg, VA, D.J. Hall and wife Barbara of Fred, and Dustin Hall and wife Tiffany of Livingston.

Brothers are Wayne Murphy and wife Samma of Saratoga, Alan Murphy and wife Bethany of Thicket, and Larry Murphy and wife Jeanne of Saratoga. Sisters, Diane Dubose and husband Lynn of Saratoga, and Peggy Cantrell and husband James of Saratoga.

Grandchildren are Michael Murphy, Brady Murphy, Daren Hall, Abigail Murphy, Tobbie Murphy, Jillian Murphy, Clara Murphy, Audrey Hall, Allison Lytle and Cheyenne Hall.

There will be a reception following the service at First Assembly of God Church, 6389 1st. Street, Saratoga, TX, 77585.

Gaytan

Juan Jose Diaz Gaytan, 33, of Laredo, Texas died February 18, 2016.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 and Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Services in the Althea P. Gibson Memorial Chapel, 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas 77575.

Interment: Panteon Municipal El Porvenir Trancoso, El Porvenir Zacatecas, Mexico.

Wells Funeral Services at 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with final arrangements.

Olecki

Lawrence “Larry” Stephen Olecki, 65, of Hardin, died, Wednesday February 24, 2016, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday March 5, 2016 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Larry was born March 11, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents; Leonard and Helen Ciganko Olecki, a former resident of Dayton, and he had resided in Hardin for the past several years. He was a college graduate, Viet Nam veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Olecki was preceded in death by his parents and Elizabeth Kovach Olecki.

Mr. Olecki is survived by: son, Stephen Olecki; daughter, Megan Olecki Hanlon and husband, Mike; sister, Sue Schlekie and husband, Dennis; brothers, Paul Olecki and wife, Sue and Greg Olecki and wife, Diane Bersnak; grandchildren, Jack Hanlon, Maggie Hanlon, Collin Olecki and Vanessa Olecki, several nieces and nephews, other relatives, as well as, church family at Covenant House Family Worship Center.

Lewis

Edna Ray Lewis 70, of Anahuac died Feb. 26, 2016.

Services will be Saturday, Mar. 05, 2016 at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1 P.M. until funeral at 2 P.M.. Interment will be in Richardson cemetery, Hankamer.

Edna was born to the late Eli and Leena Brooks on Jan. 9, 1946.

She married Sidney Lee Lewis Sr. in 1965. To this union one son was born Sidney Lee Lewis Jr.

Edna graduated from George Washington Carver High School. She was a Deaconess at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. She was a retired Cosmetologist, Licensed Book Keeper, and LVN Nurse.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband: Sidney Lee Lewis Sr., Parents: Eli and Lena Brooks, siblings: Daniel Haskins, Mary Ann Humphrey and Leslie B. Holmes.

Cherishing her memories are son: Sidney Lewis Jr., granddaughter: Sydny Megan Lewis, sisters: Alice Haskins and Ruby Carrington; as well as a host of Nieces, Nephews other Relatives and friends.

Smith

Frances Franklin Smith III of Daisetta, died on Wednesday February 24, 2016 at Kingwood Medical Center. He was 75.

A native of Louisville, TX, he had lived in Daisetta, seven years and was a Loader Pumper with Enterprise Company of Mt. Belveiu.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ola Maxine Bracewell Smith, his second wife Dillie Smith. Parents, Frances Franklin Smith Jr. and Lovella Howard. Brothers, Jimmie Smith and Coogey Smith, and son -in-law, Glen Fregia.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas Smith of Rosenburg, Oregon, and Allen DeWayne Renfro of Louisville, TX. Daughters, Lugenia Smith of Daisetta, and Pamela Kay Gray of Louisville, TX, and sister, Patricia Ann Smith of Louisville, TX.

Grandchildren: 15 and Great Grandchildren: 16.

A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at 10:00A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Robert Fregia officiating. Cremation to follow service.

Garcia

Jeri Lynnette Yates Garcia of Sour Lake, Texas died Tuesday February 23, 2016 at U.T.M.B. Hospital in Galveston. She was 54.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday February 27, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Growing In Christ Image Church located at 375 E. Barfield Street, Sour Lake, with Reverend Clarence Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Millhollon cemetery located at 6494 Millholland Street, Sour Lake.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday February 26, 2016 at Growing In Christ Image Church in Sour Lake, from 5:00 P.M. until 9 :00 P.M.

A native of Beaumont, she had lived in Sour Lake, most of her life. She had worked as a Clerk at Floyd's Farm & Ranch in Sour Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy D. Yates and Dona Millhollon.

Jeri is survived by her husband, Jesse Garcia of Sour Lake. Father and mother- in- law, Joe and Grace Garcia of Falfurrias. Daughter, Brittany Johnson of Houston, stepdaughter, Desiree Saenz of Premont, TX. Stepsons, Jake Garcia of Falfurrias, TX, and Jason Garcia of Falfurrias, TX. Brother, Thomas Laman Sr. and wife Lorrie of Sour Lake. Sisters, Kimmy Yates Hatcher of Sour Lake, her twin sister Teri Warren and husband Dennis of Sour Lake, Cindy McDaniel of Lumberton, and Becky Mitchell of Nederland. Grandchildren are Pete, Isaiah, Brayden, and Allayha, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving friends.

She also leaves behind her loving fury companions, Rita, Annie and her horse Mystic.

Peek

Paul Darius Peek of Saratoga, formerly of Clarksville, TX, died Friday February 26, 2016 at Conroe Regional Medical Center. He was 82.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. at Hardin Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Hines officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Monday February 29, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hardin Baptist Church.

Mr. Peeks was born August 12, 1933 in Boxelder, TX. He had lived in Clarksville, TX, before moving to Saratoga, in 1960. He had earned his Master's Degree in education from East Texas State Commerce in Commerce, TX. He taught at West Hardin School in Saratoga, and was a member of Hardin Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynonia Marguerite Peek. Parents, John Peek and Vera Beard Peek and one brother and sister.

He is survived by his son, Robert Paul Peek and wife Sandra of Liberty, and two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Peek and Thomas Paul Peek.
