Beddoe

Mary Ada Conditt Stivers Beddoe was born in Idabelle, Oklahoma on October 24, 1925, where she spent the first 17 years of her life before moving with her family to Lufkin to fulfill her Texas destiny.

She died February 13, 2016 in the same way she lived her entire life – peacefully.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Jessie Conditt; siblings Lester Conditt, Joe Conditt, & Byrle Cloud; loving husbands Norman Wesley Stivers of 19 years and Melvin Thomas Beddoe of 43 years. She also had many dear friends that never left her heart even after they passed over, and she never forgot them, even as the years challenged her memory.

Mary is survived by sibling Barbara Foster; daughters Lynn & husband Greg Lindsey, Marsha & husband John Miller; son Alan & wife Rose Stivers; step daughters Lynne Beddoe; Karin & husband Phillip Goodfellow; and step son Marc & wife Kris Beddoe; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and so many nieces and nephews it would be a challenge to count correctly.

Mary was a deeply Christian woman who both recognized and honored duty.

She was a loving and dutiful daughter who supported her parents and parents-in-law throughout her adulthood, including caring for them in their old age.

She was a dedicated student and respected employee, being one of the first female bank vice presidents in Texas. She was a loving and beautiful wife for two lucky men, bringing them joy and support in their endeavors. She was a faithful Methodist, serving as choir member, accompanist, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and loyal member. She was a loving and kind mother, providing a secure and stable upbringing for her own three children, even during the trying times while she endured extreme physical and emotional duress after the passing of Wesley. She later welcomed the addition of Tom’s children into her heart. Mary transitioned easily from farm girl in Lufkin to suburban banker in Greens Bayou of Houston, and back to farmer and home builder in Hardin as life opportunities changed. She was never a complainer, but accepted challenges with dedication to successful outcomes.

She loved life! She was able to still claim the beautiful home she and Tom built in Hardin, Texas as her own when her life on Earth came to pass.

Mary Beddoe was not a woman of wasted words. She was a woman who never avoided hard work. She studied, she taught, and she lived a life of love, proven by her life’s actions. She took care of her family’s business. Because of her, things got done at home, at church, and in business. Mary was a hard working woman and a peacemaker. She has definitely earned the good rest into which she has now entered.

A visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday February 17, 2016 from 5-8 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Funeral Services to be held 11AM, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Hardin United Methodist Church, Hardin, Texas with burial to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery.
