Birdwell

James Cleveland Birdwell, age 93 of Liberty, passed away December 6, 2015 in Liberty.

Cleve was born November 2, 1922 in Ranger, Texas, son of the late B.F. Birdwell and Vera Stratton Birdwell. Cleve served in the military for his country and then went into the oilfield industry where he worked all of his life as a superintendent. Cleve moved to the Liberty area in 1973 and lived here until his passing. In his earlier years, Cleves’ passion was the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a loving son, brother, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Cleve was preceded in death by his parents, wife; June Birdwell, grandson; John Russell Fletcher, brother; Frank Birdwell, sisters; Vera Hoke and Doris Barnes. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, son; John Birdwell and wife Sherri of Liberty, TX, Lynnda Fletcher and husband Ben of Austin, TX, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for James Cleveland Birdwell will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10 am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. Graveside services will be at 3pm following the funeral service at Garden Park cemetery, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX. Visitation will be Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service.

Wright

After securing Christmas here for her children, Lottie [of Saratoga, TX] left for the greatest Christmas Party of her life early Friday morning. With the most reassuring, warm and peaceful expression on her face, she left no doubt of her eternal and glorious destination.

She was looking forward to joining her husband, Truman Wright, Sr., and their children Charlotte Ann Wright, Judy Luvine Wright, and Calvin Martin Wright.

Lottie was known to many as Mom, Grandma, teacher and friend. Lottie worked as a welder in the Liberty ship yard during WWII. She went on to teach and ended her career as an Office Manager. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their R.V.

She left behind her greatest joys, her three grandchildren: Martin Lynn Havens, Reagan Elise Wright, and McKinley Grace Wright. She is also succeeded by her loving children, Truman Lynn Wright, Jr. and wife, Melissa, and Martin's wife, Tina.

Mom/Grandma, you will be missed beyond words until God calls us home. Until then....

A Service of celebration will be held on Tuesday December 8, 2015 at 11:00A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Inc. with Reverend Randy Weaver and Alvin Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson

The family will be receiving her many friends on Monday December 7, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

Serving as pallbearers are Rockey Fregia, Mel Heckler, Tim Moody, Chris Linton, Travis Smith and Mark Nixon.

Fregia

David Earl Fregia 71 of Batson, died on Saturday December 5, 2015 at his residence.

A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Batson Prairie Baptist Church with Reverend Lee Gruver officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will be receiving friends also on Wednesday December 9, 2015 from 10:00A.M. until time of service at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Fregia and Gladys Doucette. Brother, Walter Glenn Fregia and sister Ida Mae Whitley.

Survivors are his wife of 31 years Marcia Fregia of Batson, stepson, Jamie Schoonover and wife Marie of North Carolina, and stepdaughter, Vanessa Anderson and husband Michael of Ovalo, TX.

Brothers are Russell Fregia and wife Maxine of Tyler, Bill Fregia and wife Nel of Batson, and Thomas Dan Fregia of Batson. Sister, Jeanette Mosley and husband Randy of Batson.

Grandchildren are Brandon Anderson, Christin Schoonover, Brittany Schoonover, J.J. Schoonover, Paige Schoonover and Seth Schoonover.

Serving as pallbearers are Ricky Patton, Dale Henry, Ross Taylor, Joe Musselwhite, George Fontnow and Harvey Taylor.

Morse

Lola Mae Wakefield Morse, a lifelong resident of Liberty, died December 5, 2015 with loving family by her side.

She was born February 4, 1935 in Liberty, daughter of the late Amie Lee and Mary Elizabeth Hodder Wakefield. Lola’s children were the center of her world, and she spent most of her life as a homemaker. She also spent many years working at Keller’s Cones in Dayton, and many of the local children called her “Grandma” when they saw her familiar face at the snow cone stand. Lola was a people person, and opened her home to many, whether it was for a hot meal, a warm bed, or even to share her passion for a glass of tea. Friends, family, and even pets could always count on her generous hospitality. She was involved with her church, Trinity Assembly in Liberty, and Christmas was her favorite holiday.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James Roland Morse; brothers, Emmette Lee Wakefield, and Charles Wakefield.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Morse of Liberty; daughters, Laura Schatz of Liberty, and Vickie Thompson & husband Jerry of Liberty; brother, Wallace Wakefield & wife Donna of Hardin; son-in-law, Larry Schatz of Liberty; daughter-in-law, Melanie Morse of Liberty; seven grandchildren, Erin Basham, Amber Robson & husband Benjamin, Cody Schatz & wife Kristin, Jessica Morse, Rachel Alfaro & husband Juan, Danielle Thompson, and Elliott Thompson; ten great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Lola will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, in Dayton, with burial to follow in Fairlawn cemetery.

Stengler

Howard J. Stengler of Daisetta, died on Friday December 4, 2015 at Houston San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. He was 84.

He was born in Hankamer, Texas, March 22, 1931 to George Asa Stengler and Ethel Fregia. He had lived in Daisetta since 1960 and was retired as a operator maintenance for The Texas Highway Department in Chambers County. He was also a member of the Central Baptist Church of Daisetta.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister. Son- in- laws, Kilroy Holder, Gerald Broom, and Herb McDaniels.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years Bonnie Jean Stengler of Daisetta. Sons, Tracy Stengler of Daisetta, and David Cooper and wife Sylvia of Wallisville.

Daughters, Gayle McDaniels and Michael Harrison of Daisetta, Cheryl Broom of Daisetta, and Carol Holder of Daisetta. One sister Margaret Ann Sanders and husband Delmar of Clearlake.

Grandchildren are Brandon Broom, Kameron Holder and wife Kami, Josh Cooper, Dillon Cooper, Kandyce Stengler and Garrett Stengler.

Great grandchildren, Chelsey, Breagan, Jaxson, Weston, and Jace. Special friend Sherry Dubose and family.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday December 8, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta with Reverend Grady Hart officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will be receiving friends on Monday December 7, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Broom, Kameron Holder, Josh Cooper, Dillon Cooper, Garrett Stengler and Michael Harrison.

Owen

Odessa Beatrice Owen, age 96, formerly of Liberty, died December 4, 2015 in Tyler, Texas.

Odessa was born October 28, 1919 in Call, Texas, daughter of the late Merlin Baucum and Alice Passmore Baucum. She lived in Tyler for the past fifteen years and lived in Liberty previous. Odessa was a member of the First Baptist Church in Liberty where she was very active in the church. She loved to cook and was an excellent grandmother. She will be missed by all.

Odessa was preceded in death by her parents, first husband; Gus Manuel Greak, second husband; Robert Dale Owen and five siblings.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter; Jean Elam and husband James of Tyler, TX, Kenneth Greak and wife Sherry of Fredericksburg, TX, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Odessa Beatrice Owen will be Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2pm at Fairlawn Memorial cemetery.

Briscoe

Mary Vera Briscoe age 97 died Thursday December 3, 2015 In Liberty.

Mary was born in Opelousas, Louisiana July 9, 1918 the daughter of the late Louis Bernard Briscoe and Elizabeth Fornier Briscoe. Mary was a proud woman, who always acted as a lady, dressing the best she could, and carried herself with dignity and class. She enjoyed gardening and was a talented artist who liked to sketch landscapes and portraits. Although she never had children of her own, her beloved nieces and nephews were treated as hers. A homemaker she also was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary KPC #83.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her five sisters and brothers.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11AM Saturday December 12, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raywood, Texas with a rosary service at 10AM. Visitation will begin at the church at 9AM. Burial will follow the service in Ames Catholic cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames.

Doucet

Anita Jane Bagwell Doucet 57, of Snake River Estates, and formerly of Batson, died Tuesday November 24, 2015 at her residence in Snake River.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at 2; 00 P.M. at Batson Prairie Baptist Church with Reverend Butch Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

The family will be receiving friends on Monday November 30, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.at Batson Prairie Baptist Church.

A native of Liberty, she was a longtime resident of Batson, and was a retired cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Bagwell and Eura Lee Hickman. Brother Dewey Bagwell and nephew Stephen Bagwell.

Survivors are daughter, Laughter West and husband Raymond of Hardin, and brother Fred Bagwell and wife Cathy of Boerne, TX.

Grandchildren are Pachantz Dezara West and Randy Roy West and numerous nieces, nephews, and so many dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Kristopher West, Don Kudro, Tracy Bagwell, Tim Thompson, Kenneth Fregia, Frankie Gaston and Tyler Bagwell.

Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Dowdell, Alton Rhoden, and Pete Rhoden.
