Shedrick Dudley Thomas Sr. was born on September 7th, 1950 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Maylous and Lucinda Chapman-Thomas. Also referred to by his family and friends as “Wiggie”, he spent his childhood in Ville Platte Louisiana before later moving to Dayton, Texas.

In Dayton, Texas he met, fell in love and married Eva Lee Boston at the home of Howard and Octavia Boston (Parents of Eva Boston). Shedrick and Eva were married for 46 years and remained married until the time of his passing. During the marriage Shedrick and Eva raised their 4 beautiful children in Dayton, Texas. Becky Baldwin(Husband, Donald Baldwin, stepson Malik Baldwin); Shedrick Thomas Jr(Wife-Andrella Thomas, children Kennedy and Shedrick(Taylor) Thomas) Shaleah Kendrick(Husband Daniel Kendrick Sr, son Daniel Kendrick Jr); and Kenyetta Thomas(daughter-Angel Ross). Shedrick was adored and admired by his grandchildren who referred to him as Papaw! They remember him as funny, energetic and loved to hear him speak French Creole. His Ministry: His love of God and music led him to the ministry and he formed a family musical group with Shedrick Jr on the keyboard, Kenyetta on drums, Shaleah on the saxophone and Eva and Becky often serving as the lead singers. Dad was known for “taking every song to church”. His high energy performance of the song “The Lord is Sweet” will be remembered by everyone who has ever been blessed to see him perform. He was later called to preach and carried that same energy and passion when delivering sermons! The subject of his first Sermon was “Step By Step” which spoke on the how the steps of a Good Man are ordered by the Lord. (Psalms 85:13) His ministry offered him the opportunity to preach in various cities all over Texas and Louisiana.

His Career: Shedrick’s passion for travel led him to work on the road as a truck driver for over 40 years for various companies. This career allowed him to travel all over the country with his son Shedrick Thomas Jr. traveling alongside him on many of those journeys. He used his carpentry skills to work as a builder of steps and decks on homes around the Dayton Liberty area. Some of his work is still on homes that were built many years ago! Not only is he a master on the road and carpentry but he was also considered a master chef of fine Cajun cuisine. You could smell his meals as soon as you entered Beauty Street. He worked tirelessly until his passing. He was a caretaker of many and was more than happy to share what he earned with those in need.
