Patton

Billie Jean Patton 83 of Batson, died on Wednesday May, 6, 2015 in Daisetta, Texas.

A native and life long resident of Batson, she was an homemaker and member of the Batson Prairie Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Welthon Patton; parents Oscar Bradley Jordan and Athalea Fregia. Daughters Theresa Ann Patton and Lana Kay Anderson. Brothers Harold Jordan, Weldon Jordan, and Douglas Wayne Jordan, and one sister Laura Nell Blanchard.

Survivors are sons Richard Samual Patton and wife Tammy of Batson, Walter Leonard Patton and wife Sharon of Willis, Joe Wayne Patton and wife Diane of Batson, Ronald Dean Patton and wife Lou of Daisetta, and James Patton of Batson.

Daughters are Dorothy Jane Sellers and husband Wilber of Hardin, and Emma Jean Patton of Lufkin. Grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 26 and great great grandchild 1.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday May, 9, 2015 at 1:30: p.m. at Batson Prairie Baptist Church with Reverend Lee Gruver and Michael Mahaney officiating. Interment will follow at Jordan cemetery in Batson. There will be a reception following the service at the residence of Ronald and Lou Patton # 105. FM 834 in Daisetta.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday May, 9, 2015 from 10: 00 a.m. until time of service at Batson Prairie Baptist Church.

Serving as pallbearers are Arthur Strahan, Jacob Roth, Joe Patton Jr. Stephen Patton, Roland Anderson Jr. and Ronald Patton Jr.

Billie loved sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren. The family would like to thank Home Health Professional Hospice for their excellent and professional care of our mother.

Smith

Viola Smith born August 19, 1924 in Opelousas Louisiana to the late Victoria Irving and Celestine Davis.

She moved to Texas later in life where she met and married her only true love Henry Smith Sr., together they had two children who they loved and adored.

Viola was a member of Bright Light Baptist church for many years until the time of her death.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star # 426, Queen of the South Court # 93, and Amaranth Court #90.

She was preceded in death by her parents Victoria & Celestine Davis, brother, Willie Davis, and son Howard Smith.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her son: Henry Smith, Jr. (Donna), Sister: Ella Lastrapes, grandchildren: Margo Thomas, Phillip Thomas, and Tamekia Mitchell-Cotright (Carl), Nephew: John Davis, Jr. Great-nephew: Dexter Davis, and great- niece: Chandilyn Davis. Great-grandchildren: Tre'Vante, Dontavious, Deja, Jalen, Jazmin, Aliyah, Alasia, Dekayla, and Phanell. One Great-great grandchild: Zion Kash Byrd-Cotright. Great-great nephew: Chaddrick Davies.

Funeral Service will be May 9, 2015 at Bright Light Missionary Baptist Church (504 FM 2041) Anahuac, TX. Visitation will begin at 12Noon until Funeral beginning at 2 P.M.. Interment will be in Bayshore cemetery, Anahuac.

Mrs. Smith’s services have been entrusted to Proctor’s Mortuary, (Located in Anahuac, Beaumont, Silsbee, Texas). ” We Make The Difference” (409) 267-3122.

Kirkwood

Jessie Cade Kirkwood, 59, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Jessie was born to Beulah and Cade Kirkwood on August 10, 1955 in Anahuac Texas. Jessie attended George Washington Carver and later transferred in 1966 to Anahuac High School where he graduated in 1973. Jessie attended Lee College and graduated. Jessie was employed by Chambers Memorial Hospital and later employed by J M Huber in Baytown.

Jessie was married to the late Priscilla Kirkwood and to this union two children Holly Dushon Kirkwood and Terry Alfred Kirkwood were born. In 1979, Jessie moved to Beaumont where he was employed by Texaco. Jessie became an entrepreneur his passion being Kirkwood Motors on Albritton Gulley Road. He was an avid automobile lover until his death with plans to purchase him a 2015 Tahoe until his health began to fail.

Jessie was preceded in death by his parents: Cade Kirkwood and Beulah Kirkwood; maternal grandparents: Rance and Bantie Bailey; parental grandparents: Terry and Meanie Kirkwood and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

To cherish his memories his wife: Rozetta Hall-Kirkwood, daughter: Holly Kirkwood, Sons: Terry Kirkwood (Sherrie) of Baytown, TX, Anthony Bradley (Amanda) of Beaumont, Texas and Clifford Bradley Sr. (Yolanda) and Beaumont, Texas.
One Sister: Beulah Carrington (Estie), of Anahuac, Texas brother, Herbert Coward Kirkwood (Marylyn) of Longview, Texas. Grand Son, Terrance Moore, Clifford Bradley Jr. Granddaughters, Priscilla Kirkwood, Kaylan Bradley, Krystal Bradley, Kelsey Bradley, Courtney Bradley and Danika Lloyd. Sister-in-law, Santifer Bradley -Beaumont, Brothers and sister-in-laws, Dorothy, Ernest and James (Shirley) Bradley from Dallas, One Great Granddaughter, Skylar Eva Moore, a ninety-seven year old aunt, Cecil Cormier and special Friends, Ron Mathis, Jackie Mayfield, Clift Turner, Samuel Cormier, Cornell Blue Jr, and Sheron Whittington.

Funeral Service will be May 9, 2015 at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 213 Albritton Gully Rd. Hankamer, TX. Visitation will begin at 9AM until Funeral beginning at 11AM. Interment will be in Whittington cemetery, Hankamer.

Dowdell

V. R. “Joe” Dowdell, 79, of Daisetta, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at a family residence in Raywood.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Joe was born July 12, 1935 in Batson, to parents; William A. and Sarah Fontenot Dowdell, and has resided in the Daisetta area throughout his life. He was a retired roughneck from Gulf Coast Services “Boothe Boys”, and enjoyed the outdoors, animals, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Dowdell was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Wanda Dowdell, sons: Randy Allen Dowdell and C. A. “Cad” Dowdell, daughter-in-law: Gloria Dowdell, stepson: William Hortman, grandchildren: Christian E. Smith and Raymond “Tadpole” Vollert, and brothers: William “Junior” Dowdell, William Lee Fregia, Tim Pearl Fregia, and Edmond Dowdell. He is survived by his wife of seven years: Joy Sanders Dowdell of Daisetta, sons: Raymond Dowdell and wife Elizabeth of Liberty, David Dowdell of Dayton, and Mike Dowdell and wife Stacy of Raywood, stepson: Donald Hortman of Daisetta, stepdaughters: Pamela Davis and husband Steve of Baytown and Terry Humphries and husband Shannon of Ft. Worth, sisters: Dollie Mize of Dayton, Joyce McClelland of Corrigan, and Roxie Lee of Batson, brother: Chris Fregia of Onalaska, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Smith

Samuel Smith, age 83 of Liberty, died May 3, 2015 in Baytown, TX.

Samuel was born October 11, 1931 in Liberty, TX, son of the late Clinton and Vinia Varner Smith. He graduated from Hardin High School and then attended Texas Southern University. Samuel was in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 where served in the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter supervisor for Brown & Root for thirty plus years before retiring. In his spare time, Samuel enjoyed carpentry work, helping people and singing in the male church choir. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He will be missed by all.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Geraldine Smith, grand-daughter; Latanya Smith, brothers; George Smith, Arthur Smith, sisters; Gussie Smith, Dorothy Alexander. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughters; Debrah Hill of Liberty, Cheryll Batiste & husband Howard of Houston, Michael Smith & wife Pat of California, ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Services for Samuel Smith will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11am at St. John’s Baptist Church, 3709 North Main, Liberty, TX with Rev. Edward Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Well’s cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be from 9:30am to 11am on Saturday before the service.

McCann

Thomas Harold McCann died peacefully on May 2, 2015 in Hull, Texas.

Born October 20, 1925 in a log cabin in Powersite, Missouri, he was the first born child of Emmett Hugh McCann and Mary Lucinda Wade McCann.

His family soon moved to Beaumont, Texas where his Dad was a nurseryman.

They then moved to Bellaire, Texas an lived on the site of Texas Nursery.

Harold was an energetic young man and had a paper route in Bellaire as a kid.

He later rode a bike delivering auto parts in Houston. He attended San Jacinto High School and soon found himself joining the U.S. Coast Guard to become part of WWII.

He served at the Normandy Invasion transporting troops and equipment.

He returned home to finish his education and soon married the gal of his dreams, Mary Esther Lang McCann, on February 22, 1946.

They remained in Houston and had their first daughter, Mary Esther Jr. Later they lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kountze and landed in Daisetta.

At that time, Harold had a Pontiac dealership and later an auto mechanic and body shop and sold appliances.

He later owned McCann's Furniture in downtown Daisetta along with a car wash and coin operated laundry.

He extended his education at Lamar University and earned his real estate broker license.

He served his community in the Lions Club, Hull Rotary Club, as county Constable and mayor of Daisetta.

He and Mary had their second daughter, Marcie Ann and raised both girls in the Daisetta Methodist Church.

He and Mary traveled abroad and to many places of interest to them.

Harold retired at age 50 and began another venture of building rental houses.

He and Mary then took to the road and eventually were part of the Airstream family.

Many miles were covered and many friends were made.

They spent their summers in Colorado and later in Washington.

They last lived in Liberty, Texas. He and Mary became active members of the Hardin Methodist Church.

Anybody that knew Harold McCann has a story to tell. He loved to build things, deer hunt and fish which also became the roots of many stories, mostly true.

Harold enjoyed growing vegetables each year and shared his crop with many. Gardening was much like a competitive sport to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

His legend is carried on through his daughters, Mary Esther McCann Jr. of Lake Kiowa, Texas, and Marcie Ann McCann Alford and husband Rudy Alford of Hull. Granddaughter, Angie Alford of Houston. Grandson, Aaron Alford and wife Lauri of Auburn, Alabama. A sister, Betty McCann Wilson of Temple, Texas and a brother, Rev. Jerry McCann and wife Judy of Supply, North Carolina. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families. Harold was blessed to have a special group of caretakers at Fairy's Landing in Hull. They were his friends and family. He will be greatly missed and remembered by many.

A visitation time is set for Tuesday May 5, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Hardin United Methodist Church. and a celebration of his life will be Wednesday May 6, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. also at the Hardin United Methodist Church with Reverend Gideon Watson officiating with interment to follow at Guedry cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hardin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 134 Hardin, Texas, 77561 or to the Honor Flight Network, 300 E. Auburn Ave. Springfield, OH, 45505 a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. This group transports our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans - World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. There is no cost to the veteran and is a most memorable trip. Harold and Mary made this trip in 2013. It was a highlight of Harold's many experiences.

Chavez

Jose M. Chavez Sr. 69, of Anahuac died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at his home.

Jose is survived by his Sons: Jose A. Chavez and wife Alicia, David Chavez and wife Ana; daughters: Alicia Hernandez and husband Jacinto, Norma Mora and husband Carmelo; grandchildren: Eliberto M. Guerra, Angelita Mireles, Bianca Bland, Arturo Ruiz, Mario Ruiz, Jose Angel Chavez, Carlos Lara, Tiffany Chavez, Nina Chavez, Jorge L . Hernandez, Satiago Hernandez, Efrain Mora, Ramiro J. Mora, Barla Mora and Jessica L. Mora; Great Grandchildren: Jose Mora, Victor Castillo, Karla Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Diana Mireles, Mackenzie Mireles, Daniella Rodrigues, Alexis Myres and Damian Guerra.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Proctor’s Mortuary - Anahuac, Sunday, May 03, 2015 from 12Noon until 10 P.M. and Monday, May 04, 2015 from 11AM until 11 P.M..

Christian Mass will be 10AM, Tuesday, May 05, 2015 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, 2207 S. Main St, Anahuac, TX 77514. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Winnie Tx.
