Davy J. Hobson

Services for Davy J. Hobson, 68, of Grapeland will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Muse Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Caskey and Gary Luker officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Hobson died Monday in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 20, 1934 in Palestine to W.M. Hobson and Carmen Chasten Hobson.
Mr. Hobson was a graduate of Slocum High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University.

He taught school for 34 years and had been retired six years from teaching. He was ordained as a minister at the age of 17; held his first revival when he was 14 at the First Baptist Church of Wells; and pastored many churches throughout the years.

Mr. Hobson had resided in Anderson County for the last 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Martha “Mart” Ford Hobson of Grapeland; sons and daughters-in-law, Davy Dawayne Hobson and wife Sharon of Tyler, and Davy Rase and Leah Hobson of Grapeland; five grandchildren, Jessica Hobson, Dakota Hobson, Ladye Marie Hobson, Jayton Hobson and Jeron Hobson; brothers and spouses, the late Chass Hobson and wife Mae of Talco, Burl Hobson and wife Rita of Crockett, Don Hobson and wife Katy of Grapeland and Bill Hobson and wife Robbie of Grapeland; sisters and brothers-in-law Bill and Laverne Boon Schultz of Houston, Bo and Gayle Ford of Tyler, Coy Lynn and Peggy Ford of Pollok, Dub and Dian Steritt of Corpus Christi and Gary and Lisa Ford of Pollok; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Corbin, Nathan Dyess, Raymond Fletcher, Don Hutton, Steve Lane and Reid Smith.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the building of Muse Baptist Church, 2579 FM 228, Grapeland,  Texas 75844; or the Hospice of East  Texas, 4101 University Blvd., Tyler,  Texas 75701.

Betty Ann Mitchell

Services for Betty Ann Mitchell, 78, of Grand Saline will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bartley Funeral Home in Grand Saline with the Rev. Rodger Garbs officiating. Burial will follow at Haven of Memories in Canton.

Mrs. Mitchell died Sunday at a Palestine nursing home.

She was born May 30, 1924, in Ben Wheeler to Bertis and Lois Cole Adrian.

Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of Van High School. She lived in Grand Saline for more than 50 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Saline. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk. She was a member of Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class at the church and a longtime member of Athena Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack Mitchell, in 1972; and daughter, Amanda Ann Mitchell, in 1989.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her mother of Grand Saline; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael David Mitchell of Arlington, Va. and Dr. Joe and Brenda Mitchell of Palestine; brother, Jack Adrian of Flint; grandsons, Graham Mitchell of Austin and Paul Mitchell of Longview; and great-grandson, Logan Mitchell of Longview; and many other relatives and close relatives.
Pallbearers will be members of the Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

June E. Turner

Services for June E. Turner, 49, of Fairfield were at 10:30 a.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield with the Rev. Wayne Flowers officiating.
Graveside services were at 3 p.m. today at Pine Crest Cemetery in Troup.

Mrs. Turner died Sunday in Tyler.

Virginia Aline Moore

Services for Virginia Aline Moore, 86, of Palestine, and formerly of Irving, were at 10 a.m. today at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving with the Rev. Bill Hamilton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home of Irving.

Mrs. Moore died Saturday.

Virginia Lee Hilton

Services for Virginia Lee Hilton, 84, of Oakwood will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Funeral Home of Buffalo. Burial will follow at Oakwood City Cemetery.

Mrs. Hilton died Monday at her residence.

James Harold Baugh

Funeral arrangements for James Harold Baugh, 86, of DeSoto, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Baugh died Monday in DeSoto.

Florence Miller

Funeral arrangements for Florence Miller, 86, of Palestine are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Miller died Monday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

Henry Leon Miller

Services for Henry Leon Miller, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy G. Duncan, James L. Bass, C.C. Berry and Myron Waddle officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Miller died Nov. 20 after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Poynor to Henry Sr. and Martha  Johnson Miller.
Mr. Miller was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
As a teen, he worked in a local restaurant. He opened his own business more than 40 years ago. Miller’s Cafe was located at several sites in downtown Palestine. When he retired in the early ‘90s, the restaurant was located on West Reagan Street.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Marie Miller; one sister; and eight brothers.
Mr. Miller is survived by daughter, Sherrill Butler of DeSoto; son, Cedric W. Swanson of Amsterdam, Holland; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Janice Masters Poe

Services for Janice Masters Poe, 53, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crockett Road Church of Christ with Dan Manuel, Ed Voss and Owen Perry officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Poe died Sunday afternoon at her residence.
She was born April 18, 1949, in Crockett to Hugh Stafford Masters and Sylvia Ollise Dickey Masters.
Mrs. Poe was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ. She was a beautician.
She was preceded in death by her father; and husband, Douglas C. Poe, in 1997.
Mrs. Poe is survived by her mother, of Palestine; daughters, Mistylee Poe of Austin and Holly Ann Powers of Leander; sister, Dianne Hare of Palestine; and brother, Larry Masters of Conroe.
Condolence calls will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Winnie L. Thompson

Services for Winnie L. Thompson, 85, of Rockport, and formerly of Palestine, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble.
Mrs. Thompson died Thursday in Rockport after a lengthy illness.
She was the daughter of the late Roy and Ollie Grasty.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of First Baptist Church of Humble. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Thompson; six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by son, James M. Thompson, M.D. of Rockport; daughter, Bobbie Walker of Rockport; sisters, Gussie Killion and Lois Eubanks, both of Palestine; brother, Lloyd Grasty of Montalba; and seven grandchildren.

Norma Munsinger

Funeral arrangements for Norma Munsinger, 57, of Palestine are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Munsinger died Sunday at her residence.

Clara Eugenia “Jeanne” Seldon  Johnson Keith

Services for Clara Eugenia “Jeanne” Seldon  Johnson Keith, 79, of Houston, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Funeral Home with the Rev. Don  White officiating. A private graveside service will follow in the Keechi Cemetery east of Buffalo.
Mrs. Keith died Saturday in League City.
She was born Dec. 4, 1922, to Grover and Lucille Selden Sr.
Mrs. Keith was reared in Palestine and graduated from Palestine High School. She has lived the past 60 years in Houston.
She was a resident of Harbourview Care Center in League City and a past member of Channelview United Methodist Church. She held various jobs but was primarily a homemaker.
Mrs. Keith was preceded in death by husbands, Ben  Johnson and Lester L. Keith; and brother, Grover Selden Jr.
She is survived by son, Ben B.  Johnson of Colleyville; daughter, Grace E. “Jeanie” Herring of Clear Lake; sisters, Joann Selden Cooke of Tyler and Colleen Selden of Bryan; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Wayne “Les” Hays

Services for Wayne “Les” Hays, 53, of Fairfield, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland with the Rev. Earl Tewold officiating. Interment will be at South Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Mr. Hays died Saturday in Fairfield.
He was born June 16, 1949, in Houston to Ernest D. Hays Jr. and Louise Lauritsen Hays.
Mr. Hays graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and the University of Houston. He was employed by Reliant Energy and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Teague. He also was a member of the Freestone County Soccer Association and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was involved with youth and his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Hays is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hays; son, Stephen E. Hays of Fairfield; and sister, Dee Foster of Seabrook.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Freestone County American Cancer Society Relay for Life, c/o P.O. Box 196, Fairfield,  Texas, 75840 or First United Methodist Church Youth Ministry, 420 Walnut, Teague,  Texas, 75860.

Charlie Walker

Services for Charlie Walker, 57, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Dunford officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker died Nov. 19 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 6, 1945, in Palestine to Charles Bernard and Minnie L. Moore Walker.
Mr. Walker graduated from A.M. Story High School in 1963. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. Most of that time was spent on the U.S.S. Midway in the Pacific. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked at Knox Glass Containers, Vernon Calhoun Packing Plant and UTI Drilling Company.
He was preceded in death by his father; son, Carlos Davidson; and stepfather, Robert Johnson.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Ida Walker; mother, Minnie Louise Johnson; sons, Charles Walker Jr. of California and Carl Walker of Dallas; daughter, Michelle Walker of Palestine; stepson, Charles Mims of Palestine; stepdaughter, Valorie Mims of Palestine; sister, Carla Victoria McMorris of California; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends and family members will serve as pallbearers.

James C. Hanks

Services for James C. Hanks, 74, of Purvis, Miss., will be at 10 a.m. today at Boone Cemetery in Lamar County, Miss. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore Funeral Home in Purvis, Miss.

Mr. Hanks died Tuesday at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss.

He was born in Palestine.

Mr. Hanks was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW and the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Reta Hanks of Purvis, Miss.; sons, Joe D. Hanks of Palestine; Jerry Hanks of Hattiesberg, Miss., and Tracy Hanks of Purvis; daughters, Sue Brewer of Palestine, Stephanie Hanks of Purvis, Miss., and Lari Hanks of Hattiesberg, Miss.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
