John Paul Cross, age 66 of Liberty, died February 15, 2015 in Liberty, TX.

John Paul was born March 17, 1948 in Houston, TX, son of the late Grover and Edna Mae Steele Cross. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1966 and then attended college on a rodeo scholarship at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. John Paul team roped most of his rodeo life and was a charter member of the USTRC and the PRCA Retired Pro Rodeo Association. He worked as a car salesman for thirty-years and went to work for Waldrop Ford and then for BJ Ford in Liberty. John Paul won many sales and industrial awards during his tenure as a salesman. He will truly be missed by the community.

John Paul was preceded in death byhis parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife; Judi Cross of Liberty, sons; Mark Zumwalt and wife Kim of Crosby, Josh Cross and wife Candie of Batson, daughters; Leah Stevenson and husband Frankie of Liberty, Sarah Cross of Liberty, Hannah LaRive and husband Clint of Crosby, brother; David Cross and wife Jacquie of Lumberton, sister; Wanda Lagow of Dayton, grandchildren; Kolton and Maddie Zumwalt, Clark and Lucy Stevenson, Rio Cross, Cooper Woodruff, Tyler and Taylor LaRive.

Services for John Paul Cross will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2pm at North Main Baptist Church in Liberty with burial to follow at Fairlawn cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Main, Liberty, TX.

Taylor

Albert Leroy Taylor, 92, of Hardin, was called home on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Liberty Health Care Center.

He was born on July 30, 1922 in Village Mills, Texas to Albert and Queen Victoria Taylor.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Christine Berryhill Taylor, daughter Carla Regina Taylor and son Albert Leroy Taylor.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his daughters Linda Sue Pavliska and husband Albert, Debbie Alford and husband Rick and Trina Stroven and husband Jack; grandchildren James Fregia and wife Melissa, Marvie Curry and husband Phillip, Victor Garcia and wife Joann, Troy Mitchell, Jr., and wife BJ, James Crouthers and wife Regina, Cristina Wall and husband Justin, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Albert loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and he loved hog hunting, his hog dogs and his old horse Lighting.

A visitation with the family will on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, with Rev. Victor Garcia and Rev. James Crouthers officiating.

Interment will in Hardin cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas 77535.

Matthews

William Merritt (Billy) Matthews, Jr. 90, died Monday, February 16, 2015 surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 12, 1924 in Dayton, Texas to William Matthews and Ollie Bell Matthews. Billy moved his family to Monroe City at a young age and worked for the Humble Company until he became a full time Rice Farmer/Rancher. Billy was an avid hunter and fisherman and his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren are carrying on that love of the outdoors.

Billy served in the United States Navy during World War II. Billy loved his community and served in many ways. He was a member of the Anahuac Masonic Lodge No. 995 A.F. & A.M. for 48 years and served as Past Master, Anahuac Eastern Star No. 649 and Anahuac Lions Club and was presented with a lifetime membership. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac and loved his church family.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 65 years Lula Mae, daughter Arden Marie, brother James D. Matthews and sister Jeanie Lou Smith.

He is survived by his sons; William Merritt Matthews, III (Bill) and wife Nell, of Longview, Texas and Robert Louis Matthews (Bob) and wife Amber, of Humble, Texas; grandchildren Sandra Matthews, Matt Matthews, David Matthews, Susan Boudreaux, Amy Amman, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home 1201 S. Main St., in Anahuac.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac, 405 S. Magnolia Ave., in Anahuac with Pastor Gary Hillyard and Pastor Albert Billingsley officiating.

Graveside services will be under the Auspices of the Anahuac Masonic Lodge No. 995 A.F. & A.M. in Anahuac cemetery.

Pallbearers for Billy will be David Matthews, Matt Matthews, E.J. Manuel, Bryan Duplechain, Clint Fancher and Rick Cassell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ed Mack and George Turner.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Youth Program at the First Baptist Church of Anahuac, PO Box 456, Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Thibodeaux

Susan Elaine Thibodeaux, age 63 of Hardin, died at Liberty Healthcare Center on February 13, 2015.

Susan was born February 21, 1951 in Liberty, TX, daughter of the late Joe and Gertrude McCullum Norris. She graduated from Liberty High School and then went on and received her degree from San Jacinto College in the nursing field. Susan was a nurse for a little over seventeen years. She loved her patients and was a free spirit individual. Susan loved spending time with her family especially around the holidays and enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports. She also loved to read and shop. She will be missed by all.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Clarence Norris, sister; Nancy Bonner and daughter-in-law; Lisa Mayes.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons; Brad Mayes and wife Amber of Liberty, Dan Mayes of Hardin, Drew Thibodeaux of Liberty, brothers; Joe Norris and wife Debbie of Huntsville, Aubrey Norris and wife Judy of Magnolia, James Norris and wife Barbara of Liberty, Robert Norris and wife Anna of Magnolia, Donnie Norris and wife Renee of Hardin, Marvin Norris and wife Renee of Hull, sister; Mary Chesson and husband Donald of Liberty, grandchildren; Sadie, Mikayla, Zoe and Ty Mayes, best friend; Linda Penley and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Susan Elaine Thibodeaux will be Monday, February 16, 2015 at 10am at Bethel Assembly of God Church, FM 563 in Liberty with Pastor Brandon Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Trahan

Oscar Ray Trahan, 62, of Ames, Texas died Thursday, February 12, 2015.

He was born in Liberty, Texas on August 19, 1952 to Darreal “Son” Trahan and Clementine “Teen” Goudeau-Trahan. He was educated in the Liberty ISD system.

Oscar was a faithful member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames, Texas and enjoyed making noteworthy contribution by working on the committee that hosted the annual Thanksgiving Zydeco Dance a well as playing an essential part at the historical OMM Ames Easter Rodeo to name a few. Oscar loved the Lord, had a personal relationship with Him, and was dedicated to serving others.

Oscar was raised with a very strong work ethic and enjoyed keeping himself busy. His occupational endeavors began in the 1960s while working as a race horse jockey for trainer A. Ramos. He attained many victories while racing horses at Crosby Downs. He was also accustomed to the golf course as he interacted with various players when he worked as a caddie at Magnolia Ridge Country Club. Oscar held an assortment of positions while employed there. He also enjoyed many years of service with Mrs. Wilda Carrier at Wickliff’s Convenience Store in Ames. Oscar ended his work career with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Cedar Bayou, Texas with approximately 36 years of service.

Oscar enjoyed a variety of hobbies including raising cattle, bailing hay, cooking his famous gumbo, and constructing on the farm. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing the yield with various friends and family. He took pleasure in working on various fundraisers in the community. Oscar possessed the spirit of stewardship and generosity and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Darreal and Clementine Trahan. He is survived by his wife Brenda St. Julian-Trahan; children, Terrence Trahan, Rodney Kelley, and LaDonna David; siblings, Jerry (Linda) of Ames, TX, Phillip (Jeoni) of Ames, TX, Joseph (Donetta) of Missouri City, TX, Regina (Ron) of San Diego, CA, and Mary (Charles) of Richmond, TX.

Wake Service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 101 Donatto St, Ames, TX. 77575. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Lie-In-State at 9:00 AM. Rosary at 10:00 AM, following Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Ayo Emmanuel Efodigbue, M.S.P., officiating. Interment will be in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic cemetery, Ames, Texas.

Wells Funeral Services at 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with final arrangements.

Eaton

Dr. Wentworth Guy Eaton, 80, of The Woodlands, died Thursday, February 12, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas; with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 15, 2015, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.

Wentworth was born April 10, 1934 in Dayton, to parents; Guy and Pomella Moran Eaton.

He was a graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1952, an athletic and academic scholarship lead him to the University of Texas, obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in 1956, and received his Doctorate from the University Of Texas Medical Branch Of Galveston in 1961. His internship was served at Memorial Hospital of Houston, resident with the University of Texas, Postgraduate School of Medicine Houston, John Sealy Hospital, St. Joseph, and chief resident with MD Anderson. He was drafted following college, served with the US Air Force during Vietnam, opened a private practice, and was on staff at Houston Northwest Medical Center, Memorial Downtown, Parkway, and Little York Hospitals. Dr. Eaton held membership in numerous organizations, founded two clinics, wrote many publications, lectured, and delivered numerous presentations to the medical community. He also enjoyed cooking, drawing, painting, making jewelry, and geology.

Dr. Eaton was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Wendy Gayle Eaton, and sister: Doris Mae Schwalm. He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Barbara Brooks Eaton of The Woodlands, daughters: Adrienne Eaton of Houston, Lauryl Johnson of The Woodlands, Angela Eaton of The Woodlands, and Shantel Walker and husband Jay of The Woodlands, sons: Wentworth G. Eaton, II and wife Anna Marie of Sugarland, Derek Eaton of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mike McCoy of Athens, grandchildren: Jennifer Jines, Joshua Johnson, Collin Eaton, Tyler Eaton, Caroline Eaton, Zachary Eaton, Cash Walker, Shane Walker, and Anna-Liisa Moss, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Berotte

Christian Berotte of Houston Texas died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in Houston, Texas.

Visitation is Monday, February 16, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4600 Reed Road Houston, Texas. He will lie in state from 08:30 am - 10:00 am, with the Rosary at 9:15 am, with funeral mass to follow at 10:00 am with Father Michael K Saah-Buckman officiating.

Interment will be in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic cemetery in Ames, Texas.

Wells Funeral Services at 300 Alabama Street, Liberty, Texas has been entrusted with final arrangements.

Snider

Joe Earl Snider 76, of Sour Lake, Texas died on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas - Beaumont.

A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel, with interment to follow at Pine Ridge cemetery in Sour Lake, Texas. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, February 12, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

A native of Newton, Texas, he had lived in Sour Lake, most of his life and was an heavy equipment operator with Yarbrough Construction Company of Sour Lake, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Boothe Snider and Lena Opal Broussard. Brother, John Snider and sister, Rosantha Stevens. Survivors are daughters, Jo Ann Snider Holmes of Westlake, Louisiana, Shirley Jo McAdams of Beaumont, Texas, and Trinda Gale Snider of Silsbee, Texas. Sisters, are Patsy Kelley and husband Bobby of Sour Lake, Texas, Juanita Mullins of Sour Lake, Texas, and Jan Snider of Sour Lake, Texas. There are also numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of good friends.

Shaw

Ronald Shaw age 71, of Pasadena, Texas, formerly of Batson, Texas, died on Monday, February 9, 2015 in Pasadena, Texas.

Ronald " Ron" grew up in the country in Batson, Texas, in the heart of Big Thicket of East Texas. He was the youngest of five kids. He started singing in church and as a kid always dreamed of being a country singer.

After graduating from Hull-Daisetta High School, He joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. He was aboard the USS Forrestal CVA59 aircraft carrier. On July 29, 1967, the USS Forrestal had an explosion and we lost approximately 155 men and fought the fire for four days.

At the age of 21, he married his wife Marcie. He put his singing career on hold to help raise his family. Ron worked as a carpenter and truck driver for 20 years.

Ron's hobbies included fishing, hunting, and relaxing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed pickin' the guitar, listening to music, and BBQ's. At age of 45 Ron decided it was time to pursue his career as a country singer! he learned to play the guitar and write songs. He started out as a solo act, singing with background tapes.

Ron formed a band with his son Jim who was his first drummer. He considered himself a singer and entertainer . Ron believed if you truly loved what you do, it would show on stage and would radiate out to the crowd. Ron's love was his music until the day he left us. He had always hoped that people would enjoy the songs that he put together.

He had lived in Pasadena, Texas 44 years and was a member of The South Main Baptist Church, and The American Legion Hall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Quincy Shaw and Georgia Narcissus Eason. Sister, Marie Dodd and brothers, Alton Shaw and Clayton Shaw. He is survived by his wife, Marcie Shaw of Pasadena, Texas, sons, Jim " James" Shaw and wife Melinda of Coldspring, Texas, Chris Shaw and wife Linda of Batson, Texas. Daughter, Vicki Shaw of Pasadena, Texas.

Brothers, John Arthur Shaw and wife Lavella of Kansas City, Kansas, sister-in-law Catherine Shaw of Hull, Texas. Grandchildren, are Shawn Shaw of Willis, Texas, Austin McCown of College Station, Texas, and Blake McCown of Kingwood, Texas.

Great-grandchildren, are Chaleigh Cameron of Deer Park, Texas and Cylie Cameron also of Deer Park, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving and caring friends.

Ronald Elbert Shaw service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Batson Prairie Baptist Church, 11713 Batson, Prairie Rd. Batson, Texas, 77519. Interment with military honors will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson, Texas. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Niday' Fairmont Funeral Home 6777 Fairmont Parkway Pasadena, Texas, 77507.
