DeRise

William Joseph DeRise, Jr., 77, died Sunday, January 4, 2015.

Joe was born July 28, 1937 in Beaumont, Texas to William Joseph DeRise, Sr. and Annie Mae DeRise. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954 and worked as a Tugboat Captain until his retirement in 2000. Joe was a fixture in the Oak Island community for more than 40 years.

Joe is survived by his sister Betty Baggett and husband A.T., of Beaumont, his Children, Charles Miller, of Henderson, Donnie DeRise and wife Bonnie, of Baytown, Billy DeRise and wife Tammy, of Anahuac, Terry DeRise and wife Kristy, of Nacogdoches, and Sue Reichert and husband Alex, of Okeechobee, Florida; including seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Oak Island Community Christian Fellowship on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. All friends are welcome.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Hughes

Dorothy Elizabeth Brecheen Hughes, 65, of Liberty, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with services concluding thereafter. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Dorothy was born February 18, 1949 in Baytown, to parents; Neville and Donie Burk Brecheen, a former resident of Houston and Dayton, she currently resided in Liberty. She was a graduate of Northshore High school, a homemaker, and was of the Assembly of God faith. She also enjoyed crafts, making jewelry, reading, and singing.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 44 years: Richard Hughes of Liberty, her children: Darryl Hughes of Dayton, Rachel Stiers and husband Bill of Liberty, and Mark Hughes and wife Jennifer of Dallas, parents: Neville and Donie Burk Brecheen of Livingston, two sisters, one brother, grandchildren: Tori, Cody, Tucker, Luke, Hunter, and Oliver, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Cox

Wanda Kachel Cox was born February 10, 1937 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Guy Albert and Corine Eunice Palmer Kachel.

She died on Friday, January 2, 2015 at her home in Anahuac, Texas. Wanda married Irvin Cox on January 19, 1985. They had a wonderful life together.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; two sons Richard Neil Bean and James Paul Bean; and two brothers Pete Kachel and Clifford Kachel.

She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years Irvin Cox, children Patty Clark and husband Daniel of Anahuac, Steve Cox and wife Ladona of Beaumont and Melissa and husband Lee Poskey of Katy; siblings Laverne Bondor, Cecil Kachel and wife Beth and Jerry Kachel and wife Heather. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Wanda enjoyed fishing, quilting, reading, gardening, and ceramics. There wasn’t anything she could not do when she put her mind to it. Wanda was a great mother, wife, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 10, 2014 at 10:00AM in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 South Main, in Anahuac.

Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Pallbearers for Wanda will be Dennis Dugat, Don R. Langford, Donnie Standley, Butch Bean, C. R. “Popeye” Oldham and Robert Barrow.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Mares

Sandra Dee Cates Mares had just made her fifty-fifth birthday when she left this earth.

She was found on December 14, 2014 at her new home in Hull, Texas. Sandra was born on October 28, 1959 in Houston, Texas to parents Mollie and William Cates and raised by Mollie and Dell Thomas. Sandra was a “Wild Child” who lived a crazy life full of ups and downs. Though at times she could make you want to pull out your hair… She had a very soft heart that flowed with love and forgiveness. She had a beautiful smile that could light up any room and a laugh so genuine that you could feel it in your heart. She was a master sandwich maker that would jump at the chance to make one of her masterpieces for either of her children. She was always a mama’s girl that rarely strayed far from home. She loved being a “Yia Yia” to her grandbabies and would light up whenever they entered the room. Sandra had recently rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and was looking forward to the newness that comes along with it. Well, her home is in Heaven now and in Heaven there will be no more downs! Only Joy unspeakable and full of
Glory! Oh, What a day… Oh, what a newness!

Sandra was preceded in death by her step-father Dell Thomas.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Brandon Rowell, her daughter Jennifer Villagrana and husband Adrian, mother Mollie Thomas, her father, William Austin Cates and his wife Barbara, brother Bill “Buddy” Cates and wife Linda, sister Deborah Clark and husband Keith, as well as her four grandchildren, Donavin, Mollie, Aiden, and Olivia. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 11AM Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Cornerstone Church in Liberty. Services are entrusted to Associate Pastor Del Mar Lee Coward.

McAdams

Paul McAdams 71, of Saratoga, Texas, died Friday, January 2, 2015 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

Paul was born and raised in Saratoga, with his ten brothers and sisters. He was a great athlete for the Saratoga, Gators.

Paul was a track star as well as a football star. Coach couldn't wait to have Norman and Paul in the same backfield, and just knew they would be champions.

Paul and Norman chose to defend their country instead and headed to the military. Paul fell in love and married his high school sweetheart Florence Brown McAdams. Together they had three wonderful boys, Gene, James, and Dave. They Journeyed the world together living in Puerto Rico, Germany, Wyoming, and San Antonio, and eventually coming back home to Saratoga. The family lost Florence in 1980 to a sudden tragic accident. Paul then met Margaret a few years later and married , and settled at the old McAdams homestead where McAdams family was raised and to this day they reside. Paul loved the Lord, his family, community and his animals. He was famous for his beautiful garden, especially his tomatoes. Between Paul and his sister Kathy they made the best picante sauce in the state. Paul had lived in Saratoga, and was a retired truck driver with Yarbrough Materials of Sour Lake. He was a 14 year U.S. Air Force veteran who proudly served his country.

Paul was preceded in death by his first wife; Florence Brown McAdams, parents; George Walter McAdams and Quida McCarty, son; Gene Paul McAdams, brother; JohnMcAdams and sister; Rosemary Storey.

Paul was survived by his wife; Margaret Jenkins McAdams of Saratoga, sons; James McAdams and partner Tony Poto of Houston, David McAdams and wife Jodie of Mont Belvieu. Stepdaughter; Donna Cheshire of Saratoga, brothers; Norman McAdams of Hardin, and James Roy McAdams of Beaumont. Sisters; Marguerite Storey of Saratoga, Kathy Scott of Saratoga, Jenny Fontenot of Batson, Elaine Lowe of Saratoga, Ruth Scott of Sour Lake, and Sue Yarbrough of Dayton. Grandsons; Skylor Paul McAdams, Conner Lee Weidman and granddaughter Madison Mar'ee.

A service of remembrance will be held on Sunday January 4, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at West End Baptist Church of Saratoga with Reverend Bill Fabriguze officiating. Interment will follow at Felps cemetery in Thicket. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday January 3, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Timmy Storey, Stormy Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Walter Lowe, Ben Storey, Billy Scott, Chance Free, and Lucas Lowe.

Service of remembrance under the care of Faith & Family Funeral Services Inc. 40847 Hwy 105 E. Batson, Texas 77519.

Hebert

Constance Catherine Hebert, age 76 of Liberty, died December 31, 2014 in Houston, TX with her loving family by her side.

Connie was born in Houston on July 14, 1938, daughter of the late Louis and Anita Roper Fernandez. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Houston. Connie married the love of her life, John Hebert, on June 29, 1957.

They met in Love Park in Houston, TX. John fell in love with her beautiful eyes. They were high school sweethearts and never left each other’s side.

John and Connie lived in Houston, Alaska, Beaumont, Lufkin and then settled in Liberty in 1972. They then joined the Immaculate Conception Church in Liberty and have been faithful parishioners since. Connie was a member of the Roman Catholics, Altar Society and the Third Age Group. She was also a communion minister in the church. Connie loved playing solitaire, video poker and slots. She also loved the beach. She and John have enjoyed going to the beach for over fifty years. She adored her seven grandchildren and was a faithful attender of baseball, football games and dance recitals and whatever they were involved in. Connie enjoyed listening to family and friends and looked forward to talking on the telephone to them. She also had a close relationship with her three sisters and enjoyed getting together with them. She was a devoted mother, sister, wife, grandmother and friend. She was loved by so many and loved so many.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother; L.J. Fernandez. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of fifty-seven years; John Hebert Sr of Liberty, daughter; Donna Ramirez and husband Danny of Devers, sons; John Hebert Jr and wife Amy of Liberty, Stephen Hebert and wife Julie of Liberty, sisters; Rita Waters of Buda, TX, Jean Bondeson and husband Norman of New Braunfels, TX, Barbara Schroeder of Spring, TX, special family friend; Hiromi Muria and husband Toshi of Tokyo, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Connie’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Services for Connie Hebert will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 411 Milam, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at the church with the rosary to begin at 7pm.

Ramirez

Severiano Ramirez, 73, of Dayton, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Severiano was born February 21, 1941 in Edna, to parents; Francisco and Julianna Hernandez Ramirez, a former resident of Bay City, and has resided in Dayton for the past 36 years. He was retired truck driver and enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and especially spending time with his family.

Mr. Ramirez was preceded in death by his parents and son: J.F. “JR” Ramirez. He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Juanita Sanchez Ramirez of Dayton, daughters: Rhesa Perez of Bay City, Barbara Ramirez of Austin, Malinda Ramirez of Bay City, and Linda Ramirez of Bay City, sons: Severiano Ramirez, Jr. of Dallas, Bobby Ramirez of Bay City, and Daniel S. Ramirez of Atascocita, brothers: Frank Ramirez of Arkansas and Manuel Ramirez of Garland, sisters: Mary Zamora of Bay City, Mamie Tijerina of Bay City, and Isabelle Bermea of Bay City, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Grubbs

Jimmy B. “J.B.” Grubbs, 78, of Huffman, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Huffman Church with burial following at Huffman cemetery in Huffman. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jimmy was born March 1, 1936 in Wells, to parents; Jessie J. “J.J.” and Jeannette Holloway Grubbs, and has been a lifelong resident of Huffman. He was a graduate of the Wells High School class of 1954, a veteran of the US Army, a retired carpenter, and former employee of Huffman I.S.D. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Mr. Grubbs was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Mildred “Faye” Kirksey Grubbs, and brother: Curtis Grubbs. He is survived by his daughter: Venita Smith and husband Don of Huffman, son: Richard “Bo” Jenkins and wife Lisa of Shepherd, sisters: Lynn Davidson of Coldspring and Linda Turner of New Caney, grandchildren: Guy Smith, Curtis Jenkins, Tyson Smith, and Cody Jenkins, great-grandchildren: B.J. Smith, Bethany Smith, Ty Smith, Dixon Smith, Bella Smith, Victoria Cooper, Madalynn Jenkins, Emily Jenkins, with one on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Beverly

Victor Darye (Daryl) Beverly, 56, of Houston, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2014, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Victor was born December 12, 1958 in Houston, to parents; William J. and Betty Ann Green Beverly, and a lifelong resident of Houston. He was a graduate of Furr High School class of 1976, a Longshoreman by trade, and member of the International Longshoreman's Local #28 Union. He also enjoyed online shopping, football, and barbecuing. He will be remembered as generous, helpful, and caring for his family’s needs.

Mr. Beverly was preceded in death by his father: William John Beverly, grandparents: Wilford and Theresa Green, and aunts: Jane Simien and Joyce Windon. He is survived by his wife of 19 years: Sharon E. Gordon-Beverly, daughter: Essence Roshonda Beverly, son: Kendrian Victor Beverly, mother: Betty Ann Beverly, sisters: Jan Marie Fontenot and Jayne Ann Butler and husband Curtis, brother: John Terry Beverly and wife Kathy, uncle: Ervin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, in-laws, and friends.

Victor will be missed by all who knew him.

Briggs

Edna Briggs 85, of Sour Lake, Texas died on Monday December 29, 2014 in Sour Lake, surrounded by her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 11:00A.M. at Guedry cemetery in Batson. The family will be recieving on Friday January 2, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 9: 00 P.M. at the Chapel of Faith & Family Funeral Services 40847 Hwy 105E. Batson, TX. Edna was born May 31, 1929 in Saratoga, TX, to Ebbie Cotten and Glommy Mae Moore.

She had lived in Sour Lake, most of her life and was an homemaker.

Edna was preceded in death by parents, her husband Robert Kenneth Briggs, daughter; Cecelia Linscomb. Brothers; Brack Cotten, Lester Cotten, and Archie Cotten. Sisters; Nelda Hayes and Barbara Ryan. Survivors are sons; John Linscomb and wife Rose of Sour Lake, Rusty Linscomb and wife Mara of Warren. Daughters; Joyce Abernathy and husband Frank of Vidor, Mischell Erickson and husband Scott of McKinney, TX. Brothers; Joe Cotten and wife Annette of Saratoga, and J.C. Cotten of Saratoga. Grandchildren; twelve, great- grandchildren; sixteen, , and one great-great-grandchild. Serving as pallbearers are John Linscomb, Keith Linscomb, Rusty Linscomb, Byron Linscomb, Nick Copeland, Charles Lee, and William Holmes.
