Herman

Mark Gregory Herman, age 61, of Navasota, TX died on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at St. Josephs Hospital in Bryan, TX.

He was born March 2, 1953 in Houston, TX to the late Carl and Glenna Herman. He loved the outdoor life and being the life of the party. He loved going on trail rides every year for the HLSR and loved his animals, especially his three dogs Charlie, Elle Mae, and Sugar.

He is survived by his brothers Tim and David Herman of Navasota, TX. Sisters Carla, Becky, Jenny, and Amy Herman of South Carolina. Son Matt Ashby and wife Carmen of Dayton, TX. Son Michael Ashby and wife Jordan of Dayton, TX. Grandchildren Sarah and Jenna Ashby of Dayton, TX. Grandchildren Adlie and Emerson of Dayton, TX. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Magnolia Funeral Home in Magnolia, TX.

McCutcheon

Sharlene Disney McCutcheon, age 71, of Clinton, Tennessee died on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

She was born February 13, 1943 in Clinton, Tennessee to the late Jason and Mary Hutton Disney. She loved Cades Cove in the Smokey Mountains, going to the Beach’s and Casino, reading novels and being with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Gloria Williams, brothers Steven Disney and Charles Hill.

She is survived by her husband John W. McCutcheon, of Dayton, Texas; daughters Angela McCutcheon and wife Carlie, of Houston, Texas and Lisa Wierzbicki and husband Bobby, of Houston, Texas; sisters Mary Lou Robbins, of Clinton, Tennessee, Sharon Martin, of Dayton, Texas and Jo Ann Hoffield, of Dayton, Texas; close friend Janet Elliot, of Clinton, Tennessee; cousins Clark and Carol Courtney, of Clinton, Tennessee and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas.

Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.

Sterling

Betty Rae Sherman Sterling of Dayton, Texas, died in Liberty, Texas, at the age of 88 on Tuesday, the 5th day of August, 2014.

She was born June 2, 1926, in Anahuac, Texas, to Normie and Mary Stephenson Sherman. After graduating from Anahuac High School in 1943, Betty entered John Sealy College of Nursing in Galveston in October and was in the first class of the WWII Cadet Nurse Corps. After graduating from the University of Texas School of Nursing, she worked in Houston as a private duty nurse. Hearing about the disaster in Texas City in April of 1947, and the request for volunteers, especially doctors and nurses, Betty volunteered and served under a Red Cross group, assisting the thousands that were injured. Betty graduated from the Commonwealth College of Science in 1964 and received her funeral director’s license in 1965.

Betty moved to Dayton in July of 1947 where she was the first RN at Dr. E. R. Richter’s newly opened Dayton Memorial Hospital, remaining employed until her marriage to James B. Sterling, Jr. in Orange, Texas, on January 31, 1948.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Dayton, where she served as a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher, and was a lifetime member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She and her husband, Jim, donated the Ophelia Dodd Sterling Memorial Pipe Organ when the new sanctuary was built. She enjoyed her membership in Lakata Club, Priscilla Club, Stitch and Chatter Club, the Libertad Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Franklin Hardin Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Betty was a former member and President of the Liberty County A & M Mothers’ Club, and a life member of the Texas-Ex Students’ Alumni Association. She and her husband gave multiple endowed scholarships to Texas A & M University and she was always the first one in the car to attend their football games.

Betty donated the first endowed scholarship to the University of Texas School of Nursing, and has served as an honorary member of the Advisory Council at the school until her death.

Betty played a significant role in her husband’s cattle ranching, raising registered Brahman cattle and registered Quarter Horses, Sterling Oil Company, Sterling Funeral Homes in Dayton and Anahuac, and the founding of Palms Memorial Park cemetery where the tradition of the Community Easter Sunrise Service and Community Memorial Day Service is still continuing. There wasn’t a more dedicated supporter for the “Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band” and, of course, “Jimmy Valentine’s Sterling Silver Band”.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James B. Sterling, Jr., her parents, Normie and Mary Stephenson Sherman, her brother, Hoyle Sherman, her sisters, Neva Yount, Esther Fourcade, Mary Fay Sherman and Lil Arterberry. She is survived by her son, James B. Sterling III and wife, Sandra, of Liberty, her son, Benjamin G. Sterling II and wife, Linda, of Austin; her grandchildren, Jennifer Sterling of Corte Madera, California; Philip Sterling and wife, Kalli, of Trophy Club, Mike Kittrell and wife, Marilyn, of Allen, Julie Pitre and husband, Ryan, of Liberty, Lisa Elzner and husband Rob of Austin, and Jason Harding of Austin; her great grandchildren, Alyssa and Trevor Sterling, Dalton and Kendall Pitre, Taylor and Morgan Kittrell, and Lindsay Elzner; her great, great grandchild, Mallery Pitre; her nieces, Mary Ann Stipe, Kathy Murphy, Jane Golleher, Debbie Little, Dana Clegg, Diane Flanagan, and Dixie Austin.

A visitation with the family will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 5 – 7 in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main, Dayton, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church of Dayton, 106 South Cleveland, Dayton, with interment to follow in Palms Memorial Park cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Liberty County A & M Club, P. O. Box 50, Liberty, Texas 77575; the Betty Sherman Sterling Nursing Scholarship at the UTMB School of Nursing, 301 University Boulevard, Galveston, Texas 77555-1132, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Coaliron

Frankie “Todd” Coaliron, 65, died Sunday, August 3, 2014.

A longtime resident of Dayton, Todd was born October 28, 1948 in Paris, Texas to parents Myrtle Mildred and John Calvin Coaliron. He was a hard worker, one of the best log cutters in his profession. He was of small stature but he could pack a big chainsaw all day. He earned the name TC for Top Cat. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life Barbara Ellen.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland with Sister Betty Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood cemetery in Humble. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara Ellen Coaliron, brothers, Leonard Lee Coaliron and Verlon James Coaliron, sister, Bernice Hawkins, nephews, Donald Ray Coaliron and Donald “Duck” Hawkins. Survivors include his son, Todd Wayne Coaliron; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Charles Edward and Dorothy Coaliron of Dayton, Donnie Ray and Barbara Coaliron of Houston, and Clayton Edward and Lisa Coaliron of Spendora; sisters, Judy Ann Headlee of Carmi, IL, Barbara Ann Coaliron of Carmi, IL; his much loved dog, Rusty; many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Wetherill

June M. Wetherill, 75, of Anahuac, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died Friday, August 1, 2014 surrounded by her family.

She was born June 3, 1939 in North Adams, Massachusetts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas W. Wetherill, father Albert Jennings, mother Irene Tussey and brothers Jimmy Jennings, Rolland Starke and David Starke.

June is survived by her daughters: Melinda Rhame and husband Joe, Robin Prejean and husband Orrie, Julie Crawley and Leslie Driggers and husband Vince; sister: Pamela Moreland; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A visitation with the family will be on Monday, August 4, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main St., in Anahuac. Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Anahuac, with Pastor Albert Billingsley and Pastor Gary Hillyard officiating.

Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Pallbearers for June Wetherill will be Vince Driggers, Joe Rhame, Jr., Trey Prejean, Jeremie Crawley, Joshua Prejean and Logan Rhame. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Rhame and Orrie Prejean.

Funeral services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac, Texas.

McCann

Ervin Theodore McCann, 75, of Willis, TX, died Friday August 1, 2014.

He was the oldest of 18 children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a hard worker, working as a chef in Beaumont, manager of an apartment complex in League City, district manager for Churches Fried Chicken, and oilfield worker. He was a good husband and a good father. He was a member of the Pentecostal Faith.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jannel Baucam McCann.

He is survived by his children, Debra Frazier and husband Keith of Willis and Terry McCann and wife Jessica of Liberty; grandchildren, Keith Frazier, Aaron Frazier, Texas McCann and Landon McCann; great grandchildren, Alyssa Frazier, Abby Frazier, A.J. Frazier, D.J. Frazier and Emma Frazier; siblings, Robert McCann, Julia White and June McCann and numerous other family members.

His family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services Monday August 4, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A services of remembrance will be 2:00 p.m. Monday August 4, 2014 at Faith and Family Funeral Services, officiated by Reverend Jamie Blume. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery in Hardin. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Frazier, Aaron Frazier, Blake Taylor and Shawn Frazier.

Manbeck

Martha Louise Manbeck 86, of Hull, died on Monday July 28, 2014 at her residence.

A service of remembrance will be held on Sunday August 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M.at Dayspring Church 2005 Edgewood Drive Liberty, with Pastor Andy Glenn officiating. Interment will follow at Crystal Springs cemetery of Crystal Springs Arkansas. A gathering of family and friends will also be on Sunday August 3, 2014 beginning at 1:30 P.M. until time of service at the church.

A native of Hot Springs Arkansas, she had lived in Hull since 1969 and was an homemaker and a faithful member of the Dayspring church of Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Manbeck, parents; James and Nellie Rebecca Echols sisters; Dorothy Echols, Lois Elnor Crane, Ruby Tywater Dagel, and Florine Wilson. Brothers Elmer Jack Echols, Calvin Bluford Echols, Ernest Alvan Echols, Edward Ellsworth Echols, and John Henry Echols.

She is survived by her sons; Walter E. Boone of Hampton, Virginia, Calvin Manbeck of Huffman. Daughters; Mary Wofford of Hull, Ima Jean Mamerow of Cypress, TX, and Nelda Dinsmore of Channelview. Sisters are Betty Jean Echols Morrow and husband Jerry of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Nora Alline Echols Robert and husband Ernest also of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Grandchildren ten, and numerous great grandchildren. For those wanting to make memorial contributions maybe made to Pastor Andy Glenn at the Dayspring Church 189 CR 2314 Dayton, Texas, 77535.

Nancy Mae Gants, 72, resident of Liberty, Texas departed this life, Saturday, July 26, 2014.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, August 02, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah Witness, 3620 Highway 90 in Liberty, Texas

Edmonds

Kevin Marquis Edmonds 29 of Liberty, died on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at Memorial Hermann Hospital of Houston.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Pentecostal Tabernacle in Liberty, with Reverend Sue Hendricks and Reverend Jamie Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Monroe/Fregia cemetery in Liberty. The family will be receiving friends on Friday August 1, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Chapel.

Kevin was born February 13, 1985 to Clarence Edmonds and Alma Day Lucas in Liberty and was a lifelong residence. He had worked for Dragon Products of Liberty, and was a pump builder.

He was preceded in death by his daughter; Mackenize Edmonds, grandmothers; Ruby Edmonds and Margaret Alonzo Lucas. Grandparents; Alice and Georgetta Day and step mother-in-law; Patricia Ann Edmonds.

Survivors are father; Clarence Edmonds of Liberty, mother; Alma Day Lucas and husband Gary of Liberty, wife; Kelly Welch Edmonds of Liberty, sons; Hunter Edmonds and Remington Edmonds of Liberty, daughters; Dixie Edmonds and Daisy Edmonds of Liberty. Brothers; Robert Edmonds and wife Amanda of Liberty, William Edmonds of Liberty, sisters; Christy Smith and husband Wyatt of Montgomery. TX, and Jessica Edmonds of Liberty. Grandfather; Clarence E. Edmonds of Liberty, mother-in-law; Tammy Welch and friend Chris Sparks of Liberty, father-in-law; Billy Welch of Liberty, and brother-in-law; Billy E. Welch of Liberty. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Edmonds, Clarence Edmonds, David Edmonds, Kevin Smith, Josh Perri, Wayne "Snoopy" Tebo. Snyder

Charles Clinton “Si” Snyder, 99, of Liberty, TX died Monday, July 28, 2014, at his home in Liberty, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the church. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Charles was born August 24, 1914 in Saint Joseph County, IN, to parents; James H. and Margaret Wolf Snyder. He and his wife, Elnora Cooper Snyder resided in Osceola, IN from their marriage in1936 thru 1983. Mr. Snyder worked at the CTS Corporation, in Elkhart, IN as a draftsman. He designed electronic components and had 15 patents as a result of his efforts. He enjoyed carpentry (he built their house), gardening, fishing, camping and travel. They drove and camped throughout the United States and visited all states, with the exception of Washington and Oregon. In 1979, he and his wife retired and started wintering in southern Texas, and by 1983 they sold their Indiana home and moved to Alamo, Texas. They lived there until they moved to Liberty, Texas in 1997. Mr. Snyder is a Past Grand Master of Mishawaka and Osceola Chapters of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Masons for 64 years and served in various offices and different committees.

Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years: Elnora Cooper Snyder; parents: James and Margaret Snyder; sisters: Evelyn Rumsey and Helen Ward; daughter-in-law: Doris Snyder; and grandsons: Mark, Brian, and Mike Snyder. He is survived by brother: James H. Snyder, Jr. and wife Nancy of Mishawaka, IN; sons: Charles C. “Chuck” Snyder, Jr. of Liberty, TX, Richard D. Snyder and wife Ann of Friendswood, TX, and Edward L. Snyder and wife Lisane of New Columbia, PA; and twelve grandchildren: Sally Caffee of Acworth, GA; Scott Snyder of Lubbock, TX; Richard Snyder, Jr of Dayton, OH; Angela Griffith of Pearland, TX; Jennifer Grove of Williamsburg, VA; Julie Buffington of Friendswood, TX; Charles Snyder of Stamford, CT; Alan Snyder of Philadelphia, PA; Jennifer McCarty of Liberty, TX; Donna Joiner of Liberty, TX; Kenny Simmons of Liberty, TX; and Tommy Simmons of Lubbock, TX; He is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren, 23 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to: Mishawaka Masonic Lodge #130, 1810 West Avenue, Mishawaka, IN 46545 -or- to: First Methodist Church, 539 Main Street, Liberty, TX 77575.

Gary

Preston Lynn Gary age 65 of Liberty, died Monday July 28, 2014.

Preston was born February 11, 1949 the son of the late Aldas Gary and Jean Lebert Gary. Preston worked for over forty-five years at Ryder Leasing as a diesel mechanic. While there he was elected to the Safety Hall of Fame. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching westerns, and listening to country music. He especially enjoyed his time with his family; he was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts as well as the Girl Scouts.

Preston leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of forty-six years Dorothy “Jean” Herrington Gary, daughters Dawn Robinson and Kitty Bales and her husband Brad, a son Brandon Aldas Gary and wife Michelle, brother Arbey Gary, sisters Shirley Diehl and Elverine Daigle. In addition he leaves his grandchildren; Darrell Robinson wife Katheryn; Brett Robinson wife Maggie, Shari Gary husband Jose Aguilar, Tara Bales, Courtney Russell, Alexis Hegdahl husband Austin, Seth Bales and Madison Gary, Great-grandchildren; Khristin Johnston, Jonathan Fregia, Colby Fregia, Riley Johnston, Noah Owens, Christopher Robinson, and Blake Hegdahl, his great-great grandchildren; Maddox Coward, Carson Wagstaff, and Jaxon Johnston. Preston also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation services have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
