Katie Mary Norman Massey, age 95 of Liberty, died April 27, 2014 in Conroe, TX.

Katie had resided in Liberty since 1951. Born in West, TX on January 20, 1919, she was the daughter of Joe and Melissa Norman. She grew up in Conroe, TX and graduated from Conroe High School. Katie was married to Sam Massey for sixty-seven years and the mother of two children, Sam Massey Jr and Minnie Elizabeth Massey Davis. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty as well as a Sunday school teacher. Katie was Liberty’s first Welcome Wagon Hostess, an employee of Rosegivers and Colonial Flower shops, Grimes Furniture Store and was very active in the 4-H and Pilot Club of Liberty. She loved people and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Sam Massey, son; Sam Massey Jr, brothers; Urban and Joe Norman, sister; Birdie Ann Dukes. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter; Minnie Massey Davis and husband Clyde of Liberty, daughter-in-law; Linda Massey of Glen Rose, TX, grandchildren; Gregg Davis and wife Rebecca of Tyler, TX, Mary Breeden and husband Cal of Mt. Belview, TX, Jennifer Hettler and husband Art of Alvord, TX, John Massey and wife Cindy of Wimberley, TX, great-grandchildren; Erin, Courtney and Evan McNeil, Jacy Breeden, Sarah and Cash Davis, Guy and Molly Massey, sisters; Bonnie Dukes of Texarkana, AK, Billie Canon of Snyder and a host of nieces and nephews. Special friends were the staff and care-givers at Arborterrace, formerly Westminster House in Kingwood.

Services for Katie Mary Norman Massey will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Cooke cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be two hours prior to service from 9am to 11am at the funeral home.

Chambless

Minnie Viola Chambless 93, of Votaw, died on Saturday April 26, 2014 at her residence.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 11:00A.M. at The Votaw Worship Center of Votaw, with Reverend Woody Sonnier officiating. interment will follow at Menard Chapel cemetery in Segno, The family will receive friends on Monday April 28, 2014 at Votaw, Worship Center.

Born in Bryan, TX, on March 21, 1921 she had lived in Votaw, most of her adult life and was an homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband; William McKinley, her granddaughter; Brandy Chambless and numerous brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sons; Roy Gene Chambless of Votaw, Richard Chambless and wife Beverly of Big Thicket, James Chambless and wife Emily of Votaw, and Guary Chambless and wife Angie of Votaw. Daughters; Minnie Hazelwood and husband Elmo of Votaw, Ann Wright and husband John of Votaw, and Jessie Edge and husband Danny of Grapeland. Grandchildren; 24, Great Grandchildren; 51, Great Great Grandchildren; 8. Serving as pallbearers are Ernie Hazelwood, Ivan Carr, Eric Noack, Vic Stafford, Elmo Hazelwood, and Ronnie Rountree.

Alford

Margaret Marie Jackson Alford 59 of Saratoga, died on Friday April 25, 2014 at her residence.

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at The Roadside Memorial Baptist Church of Saratoga, with Jonathan Fowler, Reverend Nathan Hendrix and Deacon Wilson Ener officiating. Interment will follow at the Saratoga, City cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday April 28, 2014 beginning at 5:00 P.M. at Roadside Memorial Baptist Church.

Born in Kountze, on August 26, 1954 Margaret had lived in Saratoga, most of her life and was an homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Andrew Joseph "Shorty" Jackson Jr. and Lillie Mae Walker Jackson, husband; Raymond Frank Alford Sr. and daughter;

Survivors are her son; Jonathan Fowler and wife Janelle of Saratoga, adopted son; David Freeman of Saratoga. Sisters; Mary Etta Boney of Alexandria, LA, Carolyn Ann Langley of Hot Springs, AK, adopted sister; Linda Freeman of Saratoga, Adopted brother; John Wilson of Saratoga, aunt; Addie Votaw of Batson, and friend Dallas Bentley of Saratoga. Serving as pallbearers are Anthony Ener, Wilson Ener, Wyley Ener, Hudie Ener, Ray Fowler Jr. Travis Sangwin, David Freeman and Billy Jack Duvall. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Moody, J.T. Messer, and Cary Crabb.

Harrell

Doris Watson Harrell, 89, of New Iberia, Louisiana, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with services concluding thereafter. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil funeral Home in Dayton.

Doris was born April 21, 1925 in Henderson, to parents; Elmer and Lola Bell Watson. Doris was a former resident of Kilgore, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of the Kilgore High School, member of the New Iberia Garden Club, the Altrusian Club of New Iberia, and volunteered for the American Cancer Society and as a Pink Lady for hospitals. She also enjoyed playing golf, sewing, gardening, making jewelry, and other crafts.

Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by her parents, husband: James Ray Harrell, grandson: Wade Cuccia, sister: Macy Minor, and brother: Jerry Watson. She is survived by her daughters: Pam Odom and husband Gary of Dayton and Pat Cole and Charles of Dallas, son: Jim Harrell and wife Rhonda of the Bahamas, grandchildren: Jeff LeBlanc, Megan Odom, Stephanie Wilken, Aaron Jones, Amy Callender, and Justin Harrell, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, in Doris’ name.

Pavliska

Rosemary Pavliska age 62 died Sunday April 27, 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Rosemary was born in Baytown, Texas August 17, 1951 the daughter of the late William Woodrow Costlow and Bonnie McKinney Costlow. Rosemary worked for over twenty years as the Kitchen Manager at San Jacinto Elementary School. She enjoyed cooking and being around her family, she always tried to make everyone happy. She was plain spoken, but loved nothing more than spending time with her grandbabies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Thomas Brown, brothers Wayne Costlow and Bobby Glenn Costlow, as well as a sister Amanda Lynn Costlow.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter LaVonda A. Norris and husband Daniel of Corpus Christi, son Kevin Wayne Brown and wife Regina of Devers, her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Spicer, Justin Norris, Jamie Norris, Christopher Brown, and K.C. Duff. In addition she leaves eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Funeral service for Rosemary will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday April 30, 2014 at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Guedry cemetery.

Foster

Carolyn Sue Knox Foster, 60 of Dayton died Friday, April 25, 2014 in Conroe, Texas after a brave fight with Cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with private interment services Thursday, at the Houston National cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Carolyn was born November 19, 1953 in Waxahachie, to parents; Franklin Victor and Earlene Parker Knox, a former resident of Lynchburg, and has resided in Dayton for the past 16 years. She was a graduate of Ball High School, received an Associate’s Degree from San Jacinto College, and retired from Jacobs Engineering. She proudly served in the US Navy Reserve as an engineer’s aide with the Sea Bee Battalion and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Carolyn also enjoyed training horses, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents: Franklin Victor and Earlene Parker Knox, daughter: Tammi Lynne Walker, and grandmother: Ruth Esther Davidson. She is survived by her husband of 34 years: Arlan Lee Foster of Dayton, children: Michael John Walker, Jr. and wife Neelie of Deer Park, Julie Anderson and husband Joe of California, Thomas Foster and wife Thrisa of Dayton, and Johnathon Quinton Walker of Dayton, sister: Vicki Chapman and husband Cordell of Crosby, brother: Gary Knox and wife Emily of Hamilton, eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of close friends. Carolyn was loved and will be missed.

Wesberry

Berta Louise Faulkner Wesberry, 80 of Baytown died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Ryan cemetery in Tarkington Prairie, Texas under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Louise or Grandmother as she was fondly called was born February 5, 1934 in Goose Creek, Texas to parents, Clarence P. Faulkner and Cora Louise Snell Faulkner. She was a 1952 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended MDTA Secretarial School graduating in the 60’s. She was a lifetime resident of Baytown where she worked as a secretary in the oilfield industry. Mrs. Wesberry liked to sew, crochet, knit and watch hummingbirds. She was a member of the Senior Circle in Cleveland and Red Hat Club in Missouri.

Mrs. Wesberry was preceded in death by father, Clarence P. Faulkner, mother, Cora Louise Snell Brady, and sister, Winifred Navarre. She is survived by daughters: Deborah Matyear and husband Bradley of Liberty, Sheila Mercer of Missouri, Tanya Bontemps and husband Charles of League City; sons: Tracy Golden and wife Lori of Austin, Cary Wesberry and wife Cari of the Dallas/Fort Worth area; grandchildren: Christopher and Matthew Golden, David and Phillip Ballenger, Bradlynn and Bryan Matyear, Cora and David Bontemps, Michael and Jason Mercer, Bradley and Emily Wesberry, great-grandchildren, Ayden Doss, Emmy Allyne Mercer, Ava Ballenger, Aeris Ballenger, Leah Mercer due to arrive in June and numerous other relatives and friends.

In honor of Louise’s favorite charity, the family requests donations to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004 (www.stlabre.org) in lieu of flowers.

Francis

Dorothy Maxine Francis, age 81 of Conroe, died April 25, 2014 in Conroe with her loving family by her side.

Dorothy was born September 11, 1932 in Snyder, TX, daughter of the late Thomas and Connie Williams Rinehart. She graduated from Hermeigh High School. Dorothy worked for Pennzoil Corporation as a data processor for twenty plus years before retiring. She was a hard and dedicated worker and she loved reading and loved her grandchildren. Dorothy was voted the high school prom queen at Hermeigh High School by her peers. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Kenneth Rinehart and sister; May Belle Whitehead. She leaves behind to cherish her memory sons; Wes Francis, Keith Francis and wife Beth, daughter; Cynthia Rinehart and husband John, brother; Charles Rinehart and wife Nelda, sister; Margie Rinehart Blanton and grandchildren; Chris Jones, Chelsea Francis, Alena Francis and Steven Francis.

Graveside services for Dorothy Maxine Francis will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11am at Cooke cemetery, 1910 Lakeland, Liberty, TX. Services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX.

Lawson

Tommy Lawson, 82, of Dayton, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Memorial Hermann NE Hospital in Humble.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton with graveside at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with wake services at 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Tommy was born July 18, 1931 in Bloomington, IN, to parents; Glynn and Elizabeth Fausnaught Lawson, a former resident of Pasadena, and has resided in Dayton for the past 35 years. He was a retired machinist for KBR at the Champion Paper Mill, senior member of the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, and a former Pasadena firefighter. He also enjoyed fishing, wood working, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children: Lezza Lawson, wife: Estelle Lawson, sons: Ronnie and John Lawson, daughter: Donna Lawson, and sister: Terry Jones. He is survived by his wife of 11 years: Elaine Zalesak Lawson of Dayton, daughter: Anita Kopriva and husband Tom of Colorado, son: Steve Lawson and wife Tina of Pearland, stepsons: Glenn Webb and wife Kristine of Ft. Worth and Allen Sullender and wife Kristen of Bellaire, stepdaughter: Michele Lawton and husband Ronnie of Huffman, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department at P.O. Box 606, Dayton, TX 77535.

Moss

Julitta "Julie" Moss, 59, of Hardin, died Friday April 25, 2014, at her home with her loved ones by her side.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday April 28, 2014 at 10:00A.M. at New Life Assembly of God Church in Batson, with Reverend Bill Campbell officiating.

Interment will follow at Antioch cemetery in Buna. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 27, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. also at the church.

Julie was born on October 11, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Virgil Lee Ansley and Mary Loretta Insley. She had lived in Hardin, since 1978 and was an LVN and had worked in a variety of fields, hospitals, doctor's office and nursing homes where she helped to take care of others. She also taught the CNA class at Lee College. She was preceded in death by her husband George Moss, father; Virgil Lee Ansley and brother; Virgil Lee Ansley Jr. She is survived by her mother; Sue Ansley of Buna, sons; Richard Odom and wife Gena of Houston, Chad Turner and wife Crystal of Hardin. Daughters; Cindy Fregia and husband Joey of Hardin, Kimberly Moss and fiance' Mark of Hardin. Brothers; Greg Ansley and Tim Ansley both of Buna, and one sister; Cathy Carrell of Buna. Grandchildren; twelve.

Serving as pallbearers are Richard Odom, Nicholas Fregia, Kymbal Fregia, Curtis Swearingen, Eric Gallier, and Chris Kelley.

Buchanan

Betty Joyce Buchanan, age 86 of Liberty, died at her residence on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

Betty was born December 16, 1927 in Palacios, TX, daughter of the late Travis Bomer Luther and Nyna Elizabeth Best Luther. She attended Boling High School. Betty then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in history from Baylor University and then her masters in history from Lamar University. Betty had partially completed her PHD in history at Rice University before leaving at taking care of her loving husband, Bucky. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband; Bucky Buchanan. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son; Brian Buchanan and wife Jean of Sugarland, TX, daughter; Lynn Campos and husband Danny of Liberty, TX, sister; Jean Elizabeth Robinson of Liberty, TX, grandchildren; Logan Buchanan, Travis and Jason Cardwell and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements for a private burial have been made under the direction of Allison Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Betty’s name be made to the City of Liberty Library.

Lawson
