Smart

Sarah Mae Smart age 83 died Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Liberty Health Care with her beloved family by her side.

Sarah was born in January 8, 1930 in Cow Island, Texas the daughter of the late Lewis Nicholas Bailey and Zula Mae Arceneaux Bailey. Sarah was a homemaker but also attained her beautician’s license. She would volunteer her time at Liberty Health Care to cut the hair of the residents. She enjoyed sewing and traveling and always took care of everyone in her family. She also was an active member of her church Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, E.J. Smart Jr., granddaughter Wendy Kay Watts, and a daughter-in-law Sue Smart.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son; James L. Smart and wife Rosemary, daughters; Pam DeBerry and husband Martin; Kathy Cannon and husband James, grandchildren; Reggie Threlkeld and wife Kristi, LeDonna Claflin and husband Dave, Lexie Mouton and husband Stephen, Carissa Drake and husband Rod, Jason Cannon and wife Misti, and Angela Brown and husband Joe. In addition she leaves twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral service will be held 2PM Friday December 20, 2013 at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 4146 FM 563 Liberty, with Pastor Branden Williams to officiate along with Rev. Bob Lawrence, Rev. Harvey Drake, and Rev.Darrell Brown. Visitation for Sarah will be held one hour prior to the service with burial to be held in Fairlawn Memorial cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Reggie Threlkeld, Jason Cannon, Rod Drake, Joe Brown, Stephen Mouton, and Dave Claflin. Her great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Smith

Rodney Earl Smith, 71, of Dayton died Monday, December 16, 2013 in Baytown, Texas.

He was born May 1, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents E. L. and Artie Maxine Neel Smith. He has lived in this area for over 33 years after moving from Fort Worth. Mr. Smith was retired from Brown and Root where he worked as a pipefitter. He was a collector and enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and gardening.

Service for Mr. Smith will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave McClennan officiating.

Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 48 years Martha Jane Pate Smith, his brother David Smith, and his sister Betty Branson.

He is survived by his daughters: Sherrie Lynn Mayfield and husband Randal of Dayton and Sabra Dawn Farmer and husband Michael of Mont Belvieu; his son: Rodney Scott Smith; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Cindy Cloud, Carmen Mann, Kim Smith, and Pam Strother; his brother: Neel Smith, also numerous other relatives and friends.

Trahan

Doris Mae Trahan departed this life Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Liberty, Texas.

Doris Mae Randolph Trahan was born December 16, 1942 to Joe and Evelena Randolph in Liberty, County.

She confessed Christ at an early age and became President of the Usher board.

She later met and married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Trahan, Sr. To this union four children were born; Dennis, Kenneth, Jr., Pamela, and Tina.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents, Joe and Evelena, 4 brothers; Kenneth Ray, Joseph, Robert and Henry. 3 sisters; Velma, Elaine, and Willie Mae. She was also preceded in death by 1 grandchild, Holly.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband of 53 years, Kenneth, Sr., children; Dennis, Kenneth, Jr., Pamela (Jeffery), and Tina. Brother; Artis Shaw (Lois), Sisters; Maxine, Beverly, and Earlene(Clayton), 8 grandchildren; Cedric, Xavier, Sabrina, Robert, Shenana, Jordan, Tiffany, Scotty and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Wells Funeral Service Chapel at 300 Alabama Street in Liberty, Texas .

Funeral services are Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Visitation will begin at 09:00 AM, she will lie in state from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Services will begin at 11:00 AM at Trinity Valley MBC at 801 Sam Houston Street in Liberty, Texas with Pastor Marvin Etheridge officiating.

Interment will be at Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty, Texas .

Wells Funeral Service has been entrusted with the final arrangements.

Almond

James Kenneth Almond, 84, of The Woodlands, TX died at home Saturday morning, December 14, 2013 surrounded by his wife and four children.

Kenneth was born January 25, 1929 in Port Arthur, TX to parents James M. and Dorothy D. Batson Almond. Kenneth served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He received his bachelor’s degree and Masters in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Following, he dedicated over thirty six years to coaching football and education administration. Twenty of those years were spent at Dayton Independent School District before retiring.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62years: Nell Ross Almond of The Woodlands; his daughters: Paula Almond of Atascocita, Pamela Almond Haynie and husband John of Hardin, and Patricia Almond Dolezal and husband Eddie of Porter; his son: Kenneth Ross Almond and wife Terrie of Montgomery; his grandchildren: Bradley LaFour and wife Mindy, Luke Doebele and wife Jennie, Stephen Bexley, Sarah Nell Puffer, and Daniel Ross Almond; his great-grandchildren: Addyson Claire LaFour, and Kohen Shaw Doebele; his sister Noreen Almond Nunez of Dallas; niece: Laurie Nunez Phillips and husband Wade.

A coach, teacher, mentor, father and grandfather Kenneth dedicated his life to the advancement of other’s lives. He lived by his faith, and believed actions spoke louder than words. For those who knew and loved Kenneth, these words do not fully encompass the many roles he filled and the impression he has left in all our hearts. Rather, his legacy is left in the way in which we live our lives today. Anyone wishing to remember Mr. Almond can do so by contributing to the scholarship fund made in his honor. Checks can be made payable to the Kenneth Almond Scholarship Fund at Dayton Independent School District and mailed to P.O. Box 248 Dayton, TX 77535.

Per request of Kenneth, there will be no public service. Rather, Kenneth’s words were “I don’t want anyone to miss a ball game, a golf game or an opportunity to spend time with their family to come to my funeral.” There will be a private family ceremony on Mount Franklin in El Paso, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.

Riley

Frances V. Luster Riley, 88, of Alvin, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Frances was born May 17, 1925 in Dallas, to parents; Marvin and Emma Maxwell Luster, a former resident of New Mexico, and has resided in Alvin for the past 25 years. She was a retired beautician and member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, reading, and gardening.

Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her father: Marvin Luster, mother: Emma Maxwell Luster, husband: Wilferd D. “Man” Riley, daughter: Sandra Randazzo, son-in-law: Gary Holley, two sisters, and six brothers. She is survived by her daughter: Linda Holley of Alvin, brother: Marvin Luster of OK, sister: Mary Kate Pickens of OK, grandchildren: Michael Caudill, E. D. “Dee” Caudill, Scott Pierce, and David Pierce, 14 great-grandchildren, 16 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Clark

Ronald Earl Clark, 76, of Liberty, died at his home Saturday December 14, 2013.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marines at the age of 17. After serving for 14 years there, he then joined the Navy where he did four tours of duty in Vietnam. All together, he spent 21 years serving his country. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, where he was very active in Bible study. He was a member of the V.F.W. He retired from Groendyke Trucking Company. He was a wonderful husband, father, step-father and grandpa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Joyce Clark of Liberty; children, Ronnie Stewart Clark of GA, Rusty Clark of GA, Riley Clark of GA, Darrell Clark of GA, Rona Ann Clark of TN and Renee Clark of LA; step-children, Cynthia Ann Ouzts of LA and David Carter and wife Barbara of Devers; brother, Richard Clark and wife Iwanda of Raywood; sister, Janet Mangum of Sour Lake; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta on Tuesday December 17, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A service of remembrance is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 17, 2013 at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, officiated by Reverend Leslie Gaines and Reverend Rick Edwards. Interment will follow at Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty.

Serving as pallbearers are, Cotton Harrison, J.D. Ouzts, Bubba Taylor, Roy Baucum, Frank Baucum and Vorice Baucum. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Sullivan, David Carter, Ed Carter and Charles Moore.

Rayburn

R. G. “Jerry” Rayburn, 78, of Kenefick, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Jerry was born June 28, 1935 in Barbers Hill, to parents; William B. and Mamie D. Bass Rayburn, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Kenefick for the past 58 years. He was a retired boilermaker, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and going to the casino.

Mr. Rayburn was preceded in death by his father: William B. Rayburn, mother: Mammie D. Bass Rayburn, son: Craig Rayburn, granddaughter: Machelle Rayburn, and brother: William Rayburn. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Pearline Beard Rayburn of Kenefick, sons: Robert Rayburn and wife Rhonda of Kenefick and Marshall Rayburn of Kenefick, daughter: Susan Kelly and husband Mark of Beaumont, brother: Carl Rayburn of MS, sisters: Mary Shannon of Hull, Margaret Measles of Madisonville, Lola Malberry of Hardin, and Carol Hudspeth of MS, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Addington

John Aaron Addington, infant son of Chad and Belinda Addington of Dayton, died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Texas Women’s Hospital in Houston.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the Linney cemetery in Dayton. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

John Aaron is survived by his parents: Chad and Belinda Addington of Dayton, brother: Chad Aaron “C.J.” Addington, Jr. of Dayton, grandparents: Fain and Gene Addington of Dayton and Irene and Manuel Silvestre of Dayton, great-grandparents: Francisco Lerma, Sr. of San Antonio, Josefa Silvestre of San Antonio, and Mildred Price of Dayton, and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

Locke

Maurice Lee Locke age 82, died Friday December 13, 2013 at Liberty Healthcare.

Maurice was born in Liberty, November 24, 1931 the son of the late Lee Locke and Maude Olive Johnston Locke. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and went on to attend the University of Houston. Maurice served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Military Policeman. While in the service he became the captain of the pistol team. He was the owner and operator for over forty years of the Locke Insurance Agency. After the sale of his business he became involved in real estate, eventually leaving all to care for his late wife Maxine. He also was a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason and past president of the Liberty Rotary Club. In addition he was appointed by the governor of Texas to be president of the Trinity River Authority. Maurice enjoyed fishing, traveling, and playing his guitar, but most of all, he cherished his four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine Locke, and a brother D.H. “Buddy” Locke. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter Debra Locke-Branum, son Ronald Locke, daughter Traci Aalund and her husband Michael; In addition he leaves behind four grandchildren Alexandra Aalund, Jason Locke, Danielle Aalund and Richard Branum.

Visitation for Maurice will be held Monday December 16, 2013 from 5-7PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 10AM Tuesday December 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Liberty with burial to follow in City cemetery.

McGee

Jeanette McGee, 84, of Liberty Texas, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 8:30 AM to 10 AM, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, in Ames, Texas. The Rosary will be at 10 AM. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 11 a.m., officiated by Father George Okeahialam, MSP.

Burial will follow at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic cemetery in Ames, Texas under the direction of Community Chapel Funeral Home.

She is survived by two sisters, Frances Thibodeaux, Madge Harrison and brother, Sylvester Wickliff . Daughters Patricia Tuttle and husband Bill, Laverne Spencer and husband Robert and son, Louis McGee, Jr. Grandchildren Eric, Aaron, Kimberly, Detria, Robert Louis and Bethany. Great-grandchildren, Brianna, Eric, Jr., Warren, Jaaron, Deborah and Aadyn. Jeanette will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dunn

Karen Ann Carter Dunn, 66, a resident of Anahuac, Texas for 29 years, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Bayside Community Hospital.

Karen was born in Baytown, Texas on May 10, 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents Wheeler Carter and Effie McDaniel Carter.

Karen loved to read, she enjoyed her arts and crafts, cooking, playing games, playing slot machines and most of all she loved her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac.

She is survived by her son: Robert “Bo” Dunn and wife Lara of Anahuac; daughters: LaRhonda DeFusto and husband Joey of Anahuac and Teresa Dunn and husband Rick Kemp of Monmouth Beach, NJ; sister: Sue Ellen Herndon and husband Truman of Old River; grandchildren: Wick Webber and wife Krista, Brianna Dunn Brown and husband Brandon, Alexis Dunn, Robert Carter Dunn, Madison Dunn and Joshua DeFusto; great grandchildren: Mavrick, Maddox, Hayden and Adyson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, in Anahuac, with Pastor Gary Hillyard officiating.

Humphries

Robert Earl Humphries, 73, of Dayton, Texas, died Monday, December 9, 2013 at his home. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

Robert was an iron worker for 30 years, enjoyed fishing, football, and boxing. He love playing jokes on his children.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; Eleanor and Dee Humphries, and his wife Alma.

Robert is survived by his children; Timothy Humphries and Lea, daughters; Vicki Lynn Jones, and Wayne, Karen Norwood, husband Dale, grandchildren; Chelsea, Brandy, Jessika, Timothy Jr., Zachery, Tara, great grandchildren; Bethanie, Alexis, Logan, Garrett, Lala, Amy, Kairi, Adrianna, sisters; Kathryn Spivey, Hazel Trent, many neices and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Cremation services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.
