Regen

After being on loan from God for eighty-six years, God took his angel home to be with him and the love of her life Joseph B. Regen Jr. Preceding her was her Mother, Uvalde Mae Isham Coker Golden and Father C. T. Golden.

She leaves behind a Brother, Howell Coker, wife Ethel of Longview, Texas and two Sisters Emagene Jones of Liberty, Texas, and Martha McCanne of Beaumont, Texas.

In addition, she leaves behind her two loving Children. Her Son Jody B. Regen III, and her Daughter Nan Michelle Todd Gilmore and her husband B. R. (Gil) Gilmore. Dorris had Six grand daughters, Michele Gilmore Stahl and Husband Judson of Bastrop, TX, Jennifer Regen, Johanna Todd, Kristen Regen, Julianne Forse and husband Matt, Nancee Todd and Partner Kerry Jackson, all of Liberty, TX. Nine great grand children.

Dorris, was born in Greenville, Texas, moving to Liberty, Texas with her mother, father, sister and brother during the height of the depression. Mr. Golden sold pecans along the side of the road, near the bridge over the Trinity River. The family was living in a chicken coop, before opening Golden’s Grocery where, she went to work at the age of 5 and moving into the back of the store. Some of her fondest memories as a child were playing softball, climbing trees and just being an all around tom-boy in her youth. In 1945 Mr Golden seeing the major Grocery chains moving into Liberty, he closed the Grocery Store and opened Golden’s Furniture Showroom, Inc. where she worked from 1959, working six days a week. Her last day at the store was October 22 just 13 days before her death.

Dorris was living and working in Houston, Texas in 1952 where she met the man she was to marry Joe B. Regen at a USO party at the YWCA.

There Joe told his friend, see that girl, that’s the girl I’m going to marry.

Joe convinced Dorris to let him come to Liberty and meet her family just a few months later.

They were married within six months of meeting. Joe was in the Air Force and was from Nashville, TN.

They moved to Tennessee for a short time while he was still in the service and moved back to Liberty where Joe went to work for his father in law.

Later Joe and Dorris were to buy the furniture store from the other heirs, after the death of her mother and dad in 1982.

Dorris and her husband had a firm belief in the honesty of their customers and to this day, a great many of the customers of Golden’s remark, that Golden’s and she and Joe were the first to grant them credit. Dorris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberty, where she was married to Joe on October 30 1953. Shortly afterwards, she along with Joe moved to Dayton where they joined the First United Methodist Church of Dayton. They later moved back to Liberty and moved their membership to the First United Methodist Church of Liberty. Dorris loved to repeat to those she loved “I Love You, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck which she learned from her Husband Joe B. Regen, and every night she would tell those with her to “Sleep Tight and Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite”, which she learned from her Grand Father James Robert Isham. She never let a customer leave the store without telling them to be careful.

The family has everlasting gratitude to her long time Doctor in Houston, Dr. Barry Hyman and his assistant LVN Rene Hohman, who not only looked after her but also her Husband Joseph B. Regen Jr. The family wishes to acknowledge the work and help of her two care takers, Ruth Lambert and Tanisha Kay Brooks, as well as the nurses and staff of the Methodist Hospital in Baytown Texas, and all the employees of Golden’s Furniture Showroom, Inc. who worked so hard to make her life so much better.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Liberty, TX at 6PM on Sunday November 10th, 2013.

Officiating the service will be Rev. Lindsey Smith Jr, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church.

The family is pleased to announce that Rev. Hill Johnson, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Houston, Texas, will be a special guest speaker.

The family fondly remembers Dr. Robert (Robbie) Robinson and wife Jane, who because of illness willnot be able to attend.
