Harris

Robert “Bobby” Dunn Harris, 91, of Dayton died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Harris was born January 3, 1922 in Bay City to parents Joseph Denton and Emma Helen Dunn Harris, moving to Dayton in 1924.

He attended Dayton schools and graduated from Dayton High School in 1938.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in 1942 from Texas A & M and served in the military with the Army engineers from 1942 to 1945.

After the war, Bobby returned to the family lumber business.

He and his brother, Joe diversified into construction and development, providing Liberty and Dayton with some of their notable residential, commercial areas, schools, and churches.

He was Mayor of Dayton from 1948-1950, and served on the City Council from 1950-52.

He was Director at Liberty County Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1959-1979, was a past president of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Board of Directors of the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. Bobby served 20 years in the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Chief for two years and on the Parish Board of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He also served on the Board of the Dayton Drainage District and on the audit and budget committee for the City of Dayton.

He was a Director at First Liberty National Bank from 1995-2007, served on the Magnolia Park cemetery Association, the Dayton Historical Society and was very instrumental in establishing and restoring the Dayton Old School Museum.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Harris was preceded in death by parents, son, Pat Harris and sister, Jean Tally. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara DiLollo Harris of Dayton; sons, Rob Harris of Waco, Larry Harris and wife Linda of Dayton, and Mike Harris and wife Wendy of Austin; daughter, Beth Harris of Livingston; grandchildren, Amy Tan and husband Victor, Matthew Harris and wife Stefanie, Laura Ressler and husband Richie, Leanne Strickland and husband Jason, Alan Valdmets-Harris, and Ben Valdmets-Harris; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Harris and wife Frances of Liberty; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Harris’ caregivers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dayton Historical Society and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Fuller

El Roy "Bubba" Fuller, Jr. 68, of Dayton, TX .died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

A graveside service will be held in Ryan cemetery, Tarkington, on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. A gathering of Bubba's family and friends will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 5:00 P. M.- 8:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Tx.

Bubba loved fishing, hunting, camping and trail riding. He also loved to BBQ. Bubba was a member of the American Legion Post #393 in Cleveland where he held the office of Sgt. of Arms at one time.

Bubba is preceded in death by his parents Joyce and El Roy Fuller, Sr.

Bubba is survived by his wife Lorraine, daughters; Lesa Andrew, and husband Mark, Susan Garrett, and husband Kevin, Sherry Smith, and Johnice Smith Evans, sister; Joy Self, grandchildren; Brittnee Andrew, Tyler Andrew, Chase Barras, Adrianna Garrett, Chris Bowers, Brandy Nifong, Stephanie Suttle, Sara Evans, Nine Great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mark Andrew, Kevin Garrett, Tyler Andrew, Chase Barras, Junior Zimmermann, Chris Bowers, and Honorary Pallbearers Larry Evans and Kent Suttle.

Wright

Vernon Arthur Wright, 75, of Dayton, Texas died Monday, June 3, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

Vernon was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Palms cemetery.

Vernon was a hard- working, outspoken, and well respected man in his community. He enjoyed riding horses and sports, especially baseball. He worked for over 50 years as a concrete finisher and known by most as the best.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and Arthur Wright; and his wife Johnnie Rodriguez Wright.

Vernon is survived by his son, Vernon Wright Jr., wife Patricia; daughters, Sibbie Joseph, Betty Turner and husband Rickey, Pearlie Wright, and Sarah Wright and husband Kenneth; brothers, Ellis Wright, and wife Helen, Anderson Wright, and wife Clara, Thomas Wright, and wife Mary, Francis Wright, and wife Virginia, James Wright, and wife Lisa; sisters, Alberta Royston, Lula Mae Sneed, and husband Marcus, Ethel B. Wright, Clara Mae Wright; grandchildren, Thomas Wright, Cedric Smith, Daryl Baldwin, Chantel Wright, Sasha Wright, Tyrone Turner, Robert Turner, Sam Hodges, Kanisha Richardson, Wa-Wa Baptiste, Terrence Baptiste, Michael Winters, William Joseph, Arron Turner, Lulu Turner; great-grandchildren, Santoria Presley, Jeremy Dean, Christian Dean, John Michael, William Joseph Jr., Jadon Richardson and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Wright, Ellis Wright, Anderson Wright, James Wright, Francis Wright, and Charles Green Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammy Brady, Alvin Brady, and James Sorrells.

Crowder

James “Jim” May Crowder, 50, of Dayton died Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Bagdad, Iraq.

Jim was born April 9, 1963 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Lawrence Carl and Earline Claudia Beasley Crowder. He had attended West Monroe High School in Louisiana and lived in Longview before moving to Dayton where he has lived for the past 25 years. He had been involved in Dayton Youth Sports Association as a baseball coach. Jim was currently employed by K.B.R. International as property administrator. He proudly served in the US Army from 1980 until 1983 and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He loved to travel and be with his family. He will be remembered as a diehard New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers fan.

Services for Jim will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the First Baptist Church with Mr. Richard Stewart and Mr. Ren Gilmore officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Jim was preceded in death by parents Lawrence C. Crowder and Earline Harrell, and his brother William “Bill” Harbin Crowder. He is survived by his wife of 25 years: Mary Stewart Crowder of Dayton; his son: Zach Crowder of Kingwood; his daughter: Megan Crowder of Dayton; sisters: Mary Kate Young and husband Steve of Shreveport, LA and Sarah Diekmann and husband Tom of Jacksonville, FL; brother: Lawrence “Carl” Crowder, Jr. and wife Sandra of New Orleans, LA; parents-in-law: O.J. and Sonya Stewart of Dayton; sister-in-law: Leslie Henderson of Dayton; brother-in-law: Jeff Stewart and wife Laura of Liberty; special friends: Shane Bighorse and wife Kendra and Calie Thornton; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

And for those who desire, a scholarship fund for Megan Crowder has been established at the First Liberty National Bank.

Alford

Winfred T. “Wimpy” Alford, 83, of Hull, was born on July 19, 1929.

He was given the nickname “Wimpy” as a child and it became his name for life. After graduating from Hull-Daisetta in 1947, he attended El Dorado Jr. College in Kansas. As football captain, he crowned the homecoming queen, LaDonna Palmer, who became his wife in 1949. After moving back to the Hull-Daisetta area, Wimpy worked for Gulf States Utilities for 10 years. In 1964, he founded Alford L.P. Gas, working 45 years as a propane dealer until health concerns forced him to retired at the age of 80. Wimpy passed away on June 26, 2013 at Harbor Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tiney and Essie Alford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, LaDonna Alford of Hull; children, Rhonda Maxwell of Nederland, Rudy Alford and wife Marcie of Hull, Rita Rudolph and husband Mark of Huffman; grandchildren, Casey Maxwell and wife Heather of Nederland, Kristin Maxwell of Nederland, Angie Alford of Houston, Aaron Alford and wife Lauri of Lubbock, Kelsey Rudolph of Huffman, Bret Rudolph of Huffman; great grandchildren, Kaylee Greer of Nederland, Katelyn Maxwell of Nederland, Savannah Maxwell of Nederland and Owen Alford of Lubbock.

His family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services on Friday June 28, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2013 at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Brown

Don Albert Brown, 75, of Dayton died Tuesday, June 25, 2013.

Don was born August 20, 1937 in Dayton to parents, R. C. and Genevieve Stoesser Brown. He was a lifelong resident of Dayton, graduating from Dayton High School in 1955. Don then attended University of Houston where he was a college all-star and went on to be one of the original Houston Oilers. He farmed in Liberty County for many years with his brothers, Roger, Darrell, Bernie, and Gene. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Rice Growers, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the NFL Alumni. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, water sports, playing bridge, and scrabble. He most of all loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Service for Mr. Brown will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton with Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years: Nancy Carnahan Brown; his brothers, Roger Brown, Bernie Brown, and Darrell Brown. He is survived by his daughters: Bambi L. Brown of Houston, Donanne F. Dass and husband Craig of Humble; his sons: Randy C. Brown and wife Kameka of Dayton and Aaron D. Brown and wife Sherri of Crosby; grandchildren: Phoebe, Macey, Landon, Madison, Aaron and Alyssa; brother: Gene Brown and wife Mary of Dayton; sisters-in-law: Betty Brown of Dayton and Margie Brown formerly of Dayton; brother-in-laws: Steve Carnanan and wife Marla of Iowa and Joe Carnanhan of Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Herman

Mrs. Lena Broussard Herman, died June 22 2013 at Heritage Village Nursing, Dayton Texas.

Born on January 13 1921 to Armond Broussard, and Corine Guilbeaus Broussard in Lafayette Louisiana. She lived in Raywood Texas, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked as a cook for 42 year at the Liberty Dayton Hospital. Preceded her in death, her parents, sisters; Leona Arceneaux, Germain Williams, Roy Broussard, Maydell Williams, Ethel Mallett, Evelyn Broussard, Viola Lambert, Mary Comeaux, Cruley Broussard, Josephine Broussard.

Mrs. Herman leaves behind to cherish her memories are her sons: Curtis Herman and wife Christine, Tommy Herman and wife Noria, daughters Bonnie Herman, and Linda Herman Redio. 14 Grandchildren, 23great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, June28th from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Wells Memorial Chapel. She will lie in state Saturday June 29th from 8:30am-10:00am. Rosary at 9:15am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raywood Texas. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am with Rev. Fr. George Okeahilam M.S.P., officiating. Interment at Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery Raywood Texas

Warren

Ada died June 18 2013.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Isabella Cook: her husband, Tim Warren, Sr.; an infant son; four brothers, Levi, Solomon, Frank, and Henry Cook; five sisters, Tiny Lewis, Ida Bolton, Annie Joiner, Mary Lee Dickerson and Ellen Brooks.

Leaving behind to cherish her memories are her two daughters: Beulah Barrett and Ada Mae Lawson; one son: Tim Warren, Jr. (Carolyn); one sister: Elizabeth Cook; four grandchildren: Kay, Samantha, Ronnie, and Tonya; six grandchildren: Sherwin, Hydeia, Omar, Ariana, Caleb and Jayden; one God-child: Claudette Barnett. Ada also raised Doris, Mary, Michael, Charles, David, Reginald, and Cedric as her own children. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be Friday, June28th from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Wells Memorial Chapel

She will lie in state Saturday June 29th 09:00am-10:00am, at Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church Liberty Texas. Service at 10:00 am with Pastor A.K. Thomas, officiating. Interment at Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty Texas

Ricks

Mr. Alfred Ricks, Sr. died at Kindred Hospital in Baytown, Texas, June 19, 2013.

Mr. Ricks is survived by four children, Alfred Ricks, Jr., Bobbie Zigler, Barbara Edwards, and Gene Ricks. 10 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, two God Children and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 28th 2:00pm-7:00pm at Wells Memorial Chapel 300 Alabama, Liberty Texas Funeral services will be held at St. James United Methodist Church in Anahuac, Texas on June 29, 2013. Viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. with services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Mary Shotlow will be officiating. Interment Wells Memorial cemetery, Liberty Texas

Gridley

Phylis E. Simmons Gridley, 47, of Dayton, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Liberty Church of Christ in Liberty. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Phylis was born March 6, 1966 in Houston, to parents; Mack P. and Helen M. Brannon Simmons, a former resident of Deer Park, and has resided in Dayton for the past year and a half. She was a graduate of the Deer Park High School class of 1984, a former cashier, and member of the Liberty Church of Christ. She also enjoyed photography and will be remembered as a happy and kind person to all.

Mrs. Gridley was preceded in death by her father: Mack P. Simmons, mother: Helen M. Brannon Simmons, and father-in-law: Albert W. Gridley, Sr. She is survived by her husband of 26 years: Albert W. Gridley, Jr. of Dayton, sister: Joan Carpenter Butler and husband Frank of Orange, brother: Paul W. Simmons of Houston, mother-in-law: Roberta Godby and husband Russell of Goodrich, sisters-in-law: Laurie Kirsch and husband Rudy of Dayton and Lisa Perryman and husband Bobby of Goodrich, brothers-in-law: Jake Gridley and wife Crystal of Pasadena and Benjamin Gridley and wife Cathy of Porter, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
