Landry

Rosa Lee Landry, age 74 of Liberty, died March 30, 2013 in Kingwood, TX.

Rosa Lee was born May 2, 1938 in Raywood, TX, daughter of the late William and Vernilla Wallace Gilfillian. She attended Hull-Daisetta High School where she graduated in 1956. In 1957 she married the love her life, Allen Landry. Rosa Lee worked for the District Clerk’s office and retired with twelve years of service. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church in Liberty. She loved to garden, plant flowers and enjoyed decorating and crafts. She mostly loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Rosa Lee was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Henry James Gilfillian, sisters; Bernice LeNormand, Betty Jo Shelburne and Juanita Smith. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband of fifty-six years; Allen Landry of Liberty, daughter; Kindra Hefner and husband Steve of Kingwood, son; Kim Landry and wife Lisa of College Station, TX, grandchildren; Cody Landry, Hayden Landry, Ashten Landry, Haley Hefner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Rosa Lee Landry will be Friday, April 5, 2013. The family will receive guest from 9am to 10am with the funeral service beginning at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with burial to follow at Cooke cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. No visitation is scheduled.

Price

Carol Ray Vanya Price 65 of Batson affectionately known as the Pie Lady died Sunday March 31, 2013 at Baptist Hospital of Beaumont.

Born in Liberty, Texas on April 23, 1947 to Ray Vanya and Gracie Wiggins she had lived in Batson, for most of her life and was a homemaker and cook and a member of The First Baptist Church of Batson. Carol was known as Pie Lady, Grandma, Granny, and Maw-Maw. She loved being around her family and cooking for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray Vanya and Gracie Wiggins, Brother Terrell Gene Vanya, sister-in-law Valda Vanya. Sister Nelda “ Coonie” Riley, Janice Marie Vanya and niece Susan Thornton.

Survivors are husband William Price Sr. of Batson, sons Jason Price and wife Heather of Thicket, William Price III and wife B.J. of Batson, James Shirley and wife Maria of Moss Hill, Mark Shirley and wife Scarlett of Moss Hill, William Price Jr. and wife Kim of Baytown, and David Price of Dallas. Daughter Charlotte Price Barker and husband Raymond of Moss Hill. Brother Raymond Vanya and wife Sue of Batson, sisters Freda LeNormand of Batson, Terry McOmber and husband Bob of Hardin, and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Grandchildren are Gracie, Monte, Kaylee, Stephanie, Katelyn, Lance, James, Evan, Preston, Garrett, Morgan, Jesse, Brittany, Faith, Candace, Josh, Austin, Adam, Kaylee, Wolfie, Ashley and D.J. Great-grandchildren; thirteen.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 11:00A.M. At New Life Assembly of God Church of Batson, with Reverend Tolbert Hudspeth and Reverend Bill Campbell officiating,

interment will follow at The Moss Hill cemetery in Moss Hill. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday April 2, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. Until 9:00 P.M. also at the church.

Serving as pallbearers are Bubba Guedry, Will Guedry, Bruce Lockart, Randel LeNormand, Lance LeNormand, Kevin Vanya, Jeff Wakefield, James Cantrell, Monte Price, Garrett Price, Morgan Price, Preston Price. Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Slankard, Erwin Watson, Byron Watson, Michael Watson, Dan Beasley, Cody McOmber and Wolfie Price

Duff

Billie J. Duff, 84, of Hardin died on Friday, March 29, 2013 at her residence. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Hardin Baptist Church under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery. A gathering of Billie's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 1st at the church.

Billie was born in Daisetta on October 28, 1928 to the late, G.C. and Ray Montingh. Billie was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, W.C. Duff; son-in-law, Donald Brantley; sister and brother-in-law, Marliene and Cameron Derrington.

Billie was a graduate of Hull-Daisetta High School and Sam Houston State in Huntsville. Billie taught in both LaPorte ISD and Hardin ISD for many years.

Billie is survived by her daughters, Diane Duff of Hardin, Brenda Brantley of Dayton; sons, Jerry Duff and wife, April of Hardin, Terry Duff of Hardin; six grandchildren, Jana Bowser and husband, Jacob of Dayton, Brandi Foster and husband, Gerald of Hardin, Jason Duff of Liberty, Hannah Duff, Kaitlyn Duff and Austen McNay all of Mississippi; four great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Melonson

Gladys Mae Melonson 76 of Ames, Tx., died March 27, 2013.

She was born March 16, 1937 to the union of Melton and Bernice Cormier of Liberty, Texas. She attended Our Mother of Mercy Cathloic School and West Liberty Training where she graduated in 1956. Gladys went on to attend and graduate from Waddell Beauty College in 1956 and Lee College in 1995. In 1968 she was united with the love of her life Lomas J. Melonson, Sr., and to the union of 45 years two children were born.

Gladys was a member of the Rodeo Association where she devoted 50 years of service. She was the Moon Glo Club President, Co-Owner with her sisters Bernadine and Mary L of the “Sisters 3”. In 1990 she was awarded hairstylist of the year.

Gladys was a lover of horses and nature in general, she loved sewing and tailoring men suits. Her favorite line when she really liked someone or something was, “Now that’s the Lick!” Gladys was loyal to her family and friends. She loved to cook and consistently fed anybody off the street, her house was an open door to all, anyone who saw the back door open knew they were welcome and would get a hot meal for the day.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Melton and Bernice Cormier.

She leave to cherish her memories Husband: Lomas J. Melonson, Sr.; Children: Connie Bradford Adams and Lomas J. Melonson, Jr. (Paula); Grandchildren: Cameron Hicks, Jerry Arline, Jr., Aretha Jones, Yolanda Arline, Darryl Arline, Roderick Arline, LaTonya, Tia Melonson, Ashley Williams (Maurice), Marissa Melonson, L.J. Melonson III (Wife), Eric Arline, and Keith Arline; Great-Grandchildren: Guerrin Green, Maurice, Jr. and Kennedy Jones; Siblings: Bernadine Green (William), Mary “Tiny” Lavidene (Melvin), Schedrick Cormier (Irma) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Apr. 02, 2013 at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, Ames, TX. The Rosary will begin at 9AM and the Funeral Mass will begin at 10AM. Inurnment will be in Our Mother of Mercy cemetery following the Mass.

Services are being handled by Proctor’s Mortuary, , 518 Miller St. Anahuac, TX, 77514.

Reynolds

Linton Lewis Reynolds, Jr., 71, of Dayton, died Thursday March 28, 2013.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years. After his service, he was a Merchant Marine for 45 years. He loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a great husband, dad, step-dad, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Glover Reynolds of Dayton; son, Cameron Reynolds of Cleveland; step-sons, Jordan May of Humble and Jason Bullock of St. Louis; Step-daughter, Margeratte Dunn and husband Michael of Diboll; brother, Wayne Reynolds of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughters, Chiann Basham and Reanna Dunn of Diboll; numerous other family members and friends.

His family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services Chapel Monday April 1, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until noon. A graveside service is scheduled for Monday April 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Guedry cemetery in Batson, officiated by Reverend Bill Campbell.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Faith and Family Funeral Services, 40847 HWY 105 E., Batson, TX, 77519, (936) 262-2100 or (936) 336-2222.

Bass

Katheryn E. Thompson Bass, 93, of Dayton, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Grandview Memorial Park in Pasadena with burial following thereafter. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Katheryn was born January 17, 1920 in Glenville, WV, to parents; John and Rhoda M. Cottrill Thompson, a former resident of Pasadena, and has resided in Dayton for the past 15 years. She was a graduate of the Morgantown High School, attended Junior College, and was a member of the Old River Assembly of God Church. During her occupation as a salesperson, she was employed by Safeway, Sakowitz, and Weingarten’s. She also enjoyed spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren, her flowers, shopping, and helping others.

Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by her father: John Thompson, mother: Rhoda Mae Cottrill Thompson, sister: Helen Bay, and brothers: John, Charles, and Verlie Thompson. She is survived by her daughter: Deborah Smith and husband George T. of Dayton, granddaughter: Misty K. Robinson and husband Dustin of Dayton, grandson: George P. Smith and wife Kimberly of Dayton, great-grandchildren: Kayla D. and Hallie E. Robinson, and Ryan T. and Madison N. Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Abshier

Troy Edward Abshier, 80, of Onalaska died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Abshier cemetery in Hankamer. A gathering of Troy's family and friends will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Madie Abshier; and brother, Marvin Abshier. Troy loved to fish, woodworking, and always had a garden.

Troy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita Breaux Abshier; sons, David Troy Abshier and wife Tammy, Brian Edward Abshier, and wife Kathy, daughters; Sherri Villarreal, and husband John, and Lisa K. Arnold; sister, Lillian Carson, and husband Chuck; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Arnold, Ron Arnold, Tyler Stanley, Josh Abshier, James Satterwhite, and Jescelyn Villarreal.

McReynolds

Calvin S. McReynolds, 89, of Devers died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his residence. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March, 28, 2013 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow in Ryan cemetery in Tarkington. A gathering of Calvin’s family and friends will be from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Calvin was preceded in death by Freddie Elizabeth Mc Reynolds; daughter, Linda M. Garcia; sister, Lucille Modica; grandson, Sydney Mc Reynolds. Calvin loved wood working, mechanics and attending Hardin United Pentecostal Church. Calvin also served his country during World War II.

Calvin is survived by his daughter, Patricia Williams and husband, Alfrod; sons, Joe Mc Reynolds and wife, Erin, James Mc Reynolds and wife, Theresa; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; special friend, Oma Fore; and a host of other family and friends.

Jones

Marshall Alvin Jones, 65, of Dayton died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Concord cemetery in Rye, Texas. A gathering of Marshall’s family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents James and Ruby Jones; brother, Danny Jones. He loved fishing, drawing and puzzles.

Marshall is survived by his sisters, Stella Ewing, Vonna Aviles and husband, Ramon; companion, Cindy Brewer; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Matt Votaw, Josh Votaw, Sarah Baxter, Troy Gibson, Troy Gibson, II, and Mitchell Coleman.

Morris

Bishop Dallas Morris Sr. 70, of Harmony passed from this life on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Tyler, Texas with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, daddy, Paw Paw, great Paw Paw, brother and friend.

A celebration of Dallas’s life was held at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, March 19, 2012 in the Sanctuary of Mount Pleasant Church of God of Prophecy, 121 East White Street, Mount Pleasant, Texas under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. A gathering of Dallas’s family and friends will be from 4:00 to 6:30 PM on Tuesday at the church. A celebration of Dallas’s life was also held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March, 22, 2013 in the chapel of Heck Funeral Home in Milton, WV. Interment will follow in Morris Family cemetery in Pinch, WV.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Olive Shin Morris; sister, Mary Morris Foster; brother, Garland “Potch” Morris. Dallas served as pastor for forty eight years in the Church of God of Prophecy in Ohio, West Virginia and Texas. He loved raising his cattle, deer hunting, attending children’s, and grandchildren’s sporting events. Dallas loved preaching and winning the lost to Christ.

Dallas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Kay Morris; daughters, Regina Morris Raiborn and husband, Rev. Joe, Rita Morris Martin and husband, Rev. Russell; sons, Dallas Morris Jr. and wife, Rebecca, Kenneth Morris, Darrin Morris and wife, Tabatha; eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Rome Morris, and wife, Juanita, Howard Morris and wife, Jeannie, Delbert “Bub” Morris and wife, Brenda, Bishop Ronald “Babe” Morris and wife, Connie; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers in Texas will be grandsons, Rusty, Boo, Darryl, Brian, Dustin, Colton, Dylan and Eric. Honorary Pallbearers are Bishop James Logan, Curtis Swearingen, Rev. Eddie Bradshaw, Rev. Freddie Turner, Don Wyatt, and Bishop Wesley Vandever. Pallbearers in West Virginia will be Dallas Morris Jr., Kenneth Morris, Darrin Morris, Rev. Russell Martin, Rev. Joe Raiborn, and Darryl Edge.

Crow

Lawrence Wayne Crow 87 of Liberty, Texas died Monday March 25, 2013 at his residence in Liberty.

A native of Quay, Oklahoma he had lived in Liberty for over 20 years and was a Lineman for Cooper Electric and a U.S. WWII Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Crow and Nellie Shafer, brother Warren Crow, and sister Catherine Frazier. Son Lawrence Crow Jr and Richard Crow.

Lawrence enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and loving his dogs his 2 puppies Tiny, and Jr and his cat Queenie.

He is survived by his sons Ronnie Crow and wife Gloria of Jolly Mills, Missouri Bobby Crow and wife Linda of DeRidder, Arkansas, daughter Sue Mick and husband John of Liberty. Sisters Ruth Brewer and Helen Turner both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Numerous Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, and Great - Great grandchildren and a host of friends.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday March 29, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church of Liberty with Reverend Robert Pitts and Bobby Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn cemetery in Liberty. The family will be receiving friends also on Friday March 29, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Mick, Angel Welch, Donald Mick, George Mick, Chris Crow, George Smith, David Mick, and Tammy Mick. Honorary pallbearers are Chad Crow, John Mick Jr, Justin Miller, Michael Mick, and Roger Mick.
