Humbird

Kirk Austin Humbird, age 79 years, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and steadfast friend died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 06, 2012.

Mr. Humbird was born August 25, 1933 in Rock Island, Texas to parents Lester Granvel and Millie Nora Humbird Sr. He married his loving wife Vera Bess Laverne Hues Traylor on October 20, 1972. He and his wife spent the first part of their marriage in Pasadena, Texas. He was employed by Hughes Tool as a machinist for many years before deciding to make a career change. He and his wife then moved to Shepherd, Texas where they have spent 29 years. As a Forest Fire Fighter and Technician and a job he dearly loved, he made the decision to retire in 1996. He found great joy in hunting, fishing, working cows, gardening and “42” dominoes. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years Vera Bess Laverne Hues Traylor Humbird; parents; sister Dorothy Grissom; brothers “PeeWee” Grissom, Lester Humbird Jr., Albert Lee Humbird, and Wilfrey Humbird; sons Danny Ray Humbird, Jerry Lyn Humbird; grandson Michael Austin Castilleja; and his great-grandson Malakai Christopher De’Wayne Holman.

He is survived by his children Kirk D. Humbird and wife Barbie of Crosby, Texas, Steve Humbird and wife Della of Livingston, Texas and Tonya Humbird Malnar of Lufkin, Texas; his step-children Champ Traylor and wife Linda of Pasadena, Texas, Joe Traylor and wife Cindy of Conroe, Texas, Robert Traylor of Magnolia, Texas, and Shirley Johnson and husband Don of Pasadena, Texas. He is also survived by one brother Jeff Humbird of Old River, Texas.

He will also be remembered by his twenty-three grandchildren Jessica Jordan, Timothy Malnar, Robert Humbird, Winston Humbird, Ginny Humbird Grubbs, Grace Humbird, Norma Humbird Kelley, Noah Finley, Misha Henry, Kisha Henry, Kimberly Humbird, Jerry Humbird, Stacy Humbird, Dan Humbird, Sheena Kay Humbird, Stephanie Humbird, Stephanie Brooks, Billy Jack Traylor, Champ Traylor Jr., Amber Spurling, Amy West, Shaun Castilleja, and Brian Johnson; twenty-three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and faithful friends beyond measure.

Please join the family for visitation being held Friday, November 09, 2012, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Pastor Charlie Lackey will preside over funeral services being held Saturday, November 10, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment following at Farley Chapel cemetery, Shepherd, Texas.

Pallbearers include Robert Humbird, Winston Humbird, Timothy Malnar, Billy Jack Traylor, Champ Traylor Jr., and Cole Brooks; honorary pallbearers include Shaun Castilleja and Brian Johnson.

Burkett

Harrel K. Burkett, age 87, a resident of Cleveland, Texas for most of his life, passed away Saturday, November 03, 2012. He was born April 03, 1925 in Orangefield, Texas to parents John M. Burkett and Betty McShan Burkett who preceded him in death along with his four brothers Herbert, Hulen, Hershal Ray, and Alvin.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys E. Burkett, four children, Harrel Dean Burkett and wife, Mary, Debra Cohen and husband, Larry, Brenda Kay Pruett and husband, John, Cindy Salsberry and husband, Brian; six grandchildren, Virginia Sheets, Jackie Phillips, Patty Schatz, Tiffany Buendell, John Matthew Redman, Nancy Lynn Gerhards; Nine Great-Grandchildren numerous other treasured family members and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bro. George Hayden will preside over funeral services being held at Pin Oak Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas with interment following at Morgan cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Justin Blake Allred 25, of El Campo Texas died Saturday November 03, 2012 in Lufkin, Texas. Justin was a Service Technician for Quality Lease in El Campo, Texas.

He is survived by his Father; and stepmother Darien Wynn and Jennifer Allred of Lufkin, TX., Step Father; Jessie Mobley Sr. and mother; Frances Renee Jones Mobley of El Campo, TX. Brother; Travis Wade Allred of Lufkin, TX., Half Sister; Rachel Allred of Lufkin, TX., and Special Friend; Rowan Gibbons of Bastrop, TX. Step Grandfather; John Roy Mobley of Daisetta, TX., Maternal Grandparents John D. Jones, and Mildred Ann Jones both of Semmes, Alabama. Maternal Grandmother; LaVelle Allred of Humble, TX., A service of remembrance for Justin will be held Thursday November 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Jim Goins officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson, TX. The Family will be receiving friends Wednesday November 7, 2012 at Faith & Family from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Serving as Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Joe Smith, Jason Riley, Nick Catlin, Nicholas Gray, Jonathan Gray, Jerry Williamson, and Justin Berwick.

Starke

Robert Edward Starke 61 of Hull, Texas died Sunday November 4, 2012 in Hull, Texas.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday November 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith & Family funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Jeff Blizzard officiating, interment will follow at the Guedry cemetery in Batson. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday November 10, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

Robert was born in Eagle Lake, Texas on November 12, 1950 to Wallace Grady Starke and Anna Lee Pennington and had lived in Hull, and Daisetta, for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Anna Starke, brothers Fred Eugene Starke, William Carl Starke, Wallace Grady Starke Jr and one sister Loretta Sue Edwards. Survivors are Sisters Kathryn Ann Briggs and husband Randy of La Grange, Texas, Alice Fisher and husband Larry of Daisetta, Texas Celestine Fregia of Daisetta, Texas Cheryl Nelson and husband Frankie of Red Rock, Texas. 12 nieces and nephews, 27 Great nieces and nephews, and 22 Great Great nieces and nephews. Rios

Pedro Rios, 38, of Liberty, died Friday, November 2, 2012, at the L.B.J. Hospital in Houston. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty with burial following at the Liberty Catholic cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with rosary services at the funeral home on Monday.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Pedro was born August 30, 1974 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to parents; Pedro Rios Perales and Donasiana Huerta Rodriguez, a former resident of Georgia, and has resided in Liberty for the past year. He was self-employed carpenter by trade, member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and enjoyed bull riding, rodeos, barbecues, and music. Mr. Rios was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Francisco and Thomas Rios, and sister: Paula Rios. He is survived by his wife: Silvia Torres of Liberty, daughters: Lebinia and Yanet Rios of Liberty, sons: Juan P. and Edgardo Rios of Liberty, brothers: Odilon Rios of MX, Jose Jesus Rios of Waco, and Jose Luis Rios of Liberty, sisters: Sara Rios of Houston, Ana M. Rios of Ft. Worth, Ofelia Rios of Houston, Juana Rios, I of MX, Juana Rios, II of Mexico, and Concepcion Rios of MX, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Moye

Vera Mae Moye, age 87 of Liberty, passed away on November 12, 2012 in Baytown, TX. Vera was born march 18, 1925 in Manning, LA.

She was a housewife most of her life and enjoyed quilting, word puzzles and reading. She spent the last ten years of her life at Liberty Health Care Center and will be missed by all.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband; Thomas Moye, brothers; Willie Sims and Cecil Sims. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, sons; George Moye, James Moye, Sam Moye, daughters; Mary Thompson, Sheila Hutchins, Louise Martin, step-daughter; Judy Jones, twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Services for Vera Mae Moye will be Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis in Liberty. Graveside services will be at 3pm at Big Sandy cemetery in Big Sandy. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service.

Welch

Johnny Glenn Welch age 77, of Hardin, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side.

Johnny was born in Lantville, TX May 7, 1935 the son of the late Ben Douglas Welch and Lena Baggett Welch. He enjoyed fishing, BBQ, Bingo, and loved to be with his family. Johnny worked for over twenty-seven as an Oilfield Hand for Texas Workover. He last worked for American Rig Housing for five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as a son John Glenn Welch Jr. and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Welch.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-five years Maxine Welch of Hardin, sons Doug Welch of Potsville, Arkansas, Jerry Lee Welch of Hardin, daughter Sara Walden of Hardin, daughter-in-law Rhonda Welch of Hardin, and a sister Alline Baker of Lumberton. In addition he leaves ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Johnny will be held Monday November 5, 2012 from 5-8PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas. Funeral service will be held 10AM Tuesday November 6, 2012 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Hardin Chapel cemetery.

Harris

Hillry Dwayne Harris age 70 of Daisetta, passed away November 1, 2012 in Conroe. He was born November 7, 1941 the son of the late Leonard O. Harris and Hilda Pruett Harris. Dwayne was a self employed mechanic for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Joe L. Harris and a sister Bobbie Jeanette Puckett. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a sister Freda Hawk and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation services are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas.

Wright

Mary A. Nugent Wright, 67, of Mt. Belvieu, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at a later date. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, prior to services. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Mary was born January 2, 1945 in Liberty, to parents; R. D. and Juanita Taylor Nugent, a former resident of N. Carolina, and has resided in the Mt. Belvieu area for the past 45 years. She was a homemaker, graduate of the Hull-Daisetta High School, enjoyed reading, visiting, canning, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. As sweet as they come. She genuinely cared about people. She loved her family with every ounce of her heart. A Great Christian woman who loved the Lord. Many suffered through the loss of her husband, her first born son, her twin brothers, her baby brother, her mother and step-father, and her.

Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 48 years: Ronald Gene Wright, son: Ronnie Dale Wright, grandson: Tommy “T” Stover, brothers: Ronnie, Donnie, and Randy Nugent, and step-father: L. E. Nugent. She is survived by her daughter: Rhonda Stover and husband Tommy of Mt. Belvieu, son: James Wright and wife Crystal of Mt. Belvieu, sister: Pam Smart of Liberty, brother: Charles Nugent of Daisetta, grandchildren: Cody, Abby, Caleb, Brandon, Lauren, and Danielle, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preston

Royce Preston Jr., age 91 of Houston, died October 10, 2012 in Houston.

Royce was born October 27, 1920 in China, TX, son of Royce Preston Sr. and Maude Price Preston. He attended Anahuac High School and was in the construction business by building houses.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents, sons; Michael Preston, James Preston and Jerry Preston and one daughter; Sheila Preston. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife; Evelyn Preston of Houston, sons; Gary Preston and wife Darla of Crosby, Terry Preston of Crosby, Daryl Preston of Houston, daughter; Beverly Grimes of Channelview, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

Services for Royce Preston Jr. will be Friday, October 12, 2012 at 2pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. Visitation will be from 12pm to 2pm that same day. Burial will follow at Anahuac cemetery in Anahuac, TX.

Ricks

Mr. Theodore Roosevelt Ricks was born May 31, 1914 to the late Roy Ricks, Sr., and Ethelyn Burton Ricks in Liberty, Texas.

He was the 5th of eight children: Annabess, Asalee, Roy Jr., Alfred, Earl, E. B. and Thelma.

Mr. Ricks first met Alice Gaskin in church on Easter Sunday 1932. They were married five years later on Christmas Eve 1937. They have two daughters: Ethelyn L. Ricks and Patricia Reed.

In 1924, the Ricks family moved to Oyster Bayou and worked on the Schultz rice farm. He attended school in Double Bayou. In 1934, Mr. Ricks joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he worked in forestry and road construction. Also in 1934, Mr. Ricks moved to Anahuac to live and worked for a sawmill company. He volunteered for the United States Navy in 1942 during World War II where he was ranked as a 1st Class Angleman. After an honorable discharge to the reserves, Mr. Ricks was called back to service in 1950 during the Korean War while working in the oil fields of Humble Oil. He went back in the service as an Electronic technician 2nd class.

During the 1940’s, Mr. Ricks went to barber school at Tyler Barber College and worked in someone’s shop in Anahuac for about 6 months before working for Humble Oil.

Upon completion of his military duty in 1958, Mr. Ricks began working for Humble Oil Company (now Exxon/Mobil) as a janitor in 1962. He retired in 1980 as a gas plant operator. He later worked and retired from Sears in San Jacinto Mall.

In the Community, Mr. Ricks was elected the first black city councilman in 1974. He served until he decided to not seek re-election in 2010. Also in 2010, Mr. Ricks received the Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award. His other community responsibilities included being a member of the American Legion Post, the Eastern Star, the Space Center ExxonMobil Retiree Club, and Masons. Mr. Ricks volunteered at the Mid Chambers Christian Caring Center. Exxon often donated money for the hours Mr. Ricks volunteered at the Caring Center. He also volunteered with the Anahuac Independent School District, once served as Grand Marshall of the Gator Fest Parade and has a Bridge named in his honor in the city of Anahuac.

Mr. Ricks was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church which he helped to organize in 1934 and later became an ordained deacon.

Mr. Ricks’ hobbies included ham radio, short wave radio, reading, playing solitaire, and photography.

Mr. Theodore Ricks is survived by his brother, Alfred Ricks Sr., two daughters, Ethelyn Ricks Blackmon and Patricia Reed; four grandchildren: Alice “Liesel” (Gerald) Lewis, Mikhael Roy (Kristi) Ricks, Grady and Frederick Dillard; 11 great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Elona Lewis, Kiera Ricks, Montana, Kayla, Emma and Grady Dillard III, Jayda, Frederick, Kameron and Syncere; Godsons: Bert William Whittington III and Anthony Jackson; “special daughter”, Martha Jane Richardson Baldwin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Visitation will begin at 11AM until funeral 1PM at First Baptist Church 1110 Hamilton St. Anahuac. Interment will be in Wells Memorial cemetery.

Vann

Dorothy Elizabeth Vann, age 80, of Cleveland, Texas, died Tuesday, October 09, 2012 in Conroe, Texas.

She was born in Huntsville, Texas on December 01, 1931 to parents Lee and Nuda Ellisor-Risner who preceded her in death along with her husband Loyd Riley Vann, brothers Robert Lee Risner, Archie Risner and Bobby Joe Risner; sister Anna “Wee Baby” Morgan.

She is survived by her daughter Norma Wisdom; sons Riley Vann and wife Debbie Vann, Randy Vann and wife Kim Vann; grandchildren Eric Wisdom, Melissa Horn, Jennifer Clifton, Tiffany Nye, Chris Vann, Jonathon Vann; great-grandchildren Darby Hare, Colby Horn, Brianne Horn, Tyler Wisdom, Dawson Wisdom, Kirston Goodwin, Gaven Markovich, Kensley Nye, Trinton Cantrel, Johnny Ray Clifton, and Derek Clifton; sister Maxcine Smith; brother, Alton Ray Risner; numerous other cherished family members and friends beyond measure.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2012, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas, with interment at Magnolia cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Volkert

Roy C. Volkert, 85, formerly of Liberty died Saturday, October 6, 2012, in Seguin.

Funeral services to be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with burial following at the Cooke Memorial cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the funeral home.

Roy was born July 22, 1927 at the family farm home in Ganado, TX, to parents: Willie and Laura Christ Volkert. He was a former resident of Liberty for 33 years and at the time of his death had lived in Seguin for the past 2 1/2 years. He love the Lord, was a member of New Life Christian Center and through the years served his church as a deacon and board member. Roy was an avid gardener and took great joy working in his garden and riding his classic Farmall tractor. He served his country in the Army Corp of Engineers from 1945 to 1948 and retired from Texaco in 1986.

Mr. Volkert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Margaret, two great-grandchildren: Jonas Roy Turner and Reagan Faith Turner, brothers: Willie, Horrest, Carl and Richard and sister: Dorothy. He is survived by daughter: LuLu Paschall and husband Terry of Denver, CO, son: Ken Volkert and wife Marilyn of Seguin, daughter: Nell Hamlett and husband Lester of Baytown, grandchildren: Kristee Paschall (Greg Johnson) Donavon Paschall (Mandy), Darren Paschall, Stephanie Guajardo (Robert), Angelyn Turner (Shelby), Alison Blanscet (Chilton), and Lauren Fox, great-grandchildren: Miles, Eli and Amelia Paschall Johnson, Nora, Leah and Anna Paschall, Victoria Guajardo, Noah Turner and Jade and Ella Blanscet, brother: Forrest Volkert (Maxine), sisters: Elfredia Geistman and Joyce Holland and sisters-in-law: Cynthia Volkert, Audeen Volkert and Janie Volkert, along with brother-in-law: R. N. Smart (Sue) and sisters-in-law: Sarah Smart, Audrey Smart and Katie Smart, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
