Abshier

Whalen Abshier, 63 of Anahuac, Texas died on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, dad, paw paw, uncle, and friend.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahauc, Texas. Interment will follow in Abshier cemetery. A gathering of Whalen's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 28th at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac, Texas.

Whalen was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Ruby Abshier; brother, James Earl (Pudzo) Abshier. He worked for 24 years for Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He loved hunting, coaching baseball, farming, mowing grass and being in the garden.

Whalen is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ronda Smith Abshier; daughter, Hollie Hanks and husband, Coy; son, Heath Abshier and wife, Amanda; grandchildren, Conner and Channing Hanks, Isabella, Maddox and Bentley Abshier; nieces, Kaci Johnson, Kristen Moorman, Shannon and Brooke Smith; nephews, Jerrod and Zach Smith; and a host of other family and friends.

Falk

Floyd John Falk, 90, of Dayton died August 25, 2012 in Liberty, TX.

Floyd was born on May 13, 1922 in New Waverly, TX son of John and Veronica Falk. Floyd attended Dayton High School and graduated in 1940. He was a supervisor for Mills Bennett Oil before retiring with forty-two years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dayton.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Adam Falk, Lewis Falk, sisters; Flourine Suoboda, Francis Svoboda and Lucille Etheridge. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of forty-four years Rosa Lee Falk, daughter; Sandra Lee Campbell of Liberty, son; Ronnie Falk of New Waverly, step-son; Donald Sprayberry of Houston, step-daughter; Anita Symmank of Dayton, three grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Services for Floyd John Falk will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 2pm at First Baptist Church in Dayton with burial to follow at Palms Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 27, 2012 at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main, Dayton, TX from 5pm to 8pm.

Burch

Debra Thomas Burch, 59, of Dayton died on Friday, August 24, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. Interment will follow in Palms Memorial Park. A gathering of Debra's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, August 27th at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas

Mrs. Burch was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Bay Burch; father, Jackie Thomas; stepdaughter, Felicia Whittington. She was in home health and Liberty ISD for many years. She loved shopping, fishing, boating and spending time with her family.

Debra is survived by her daughter, Kim Armstrong and husband Wayne Wortham; son, Travis Williamson and wife, Brenda Satterwhite; mother, Roberta Thomas; sisters, Nancy Luanne Jorgenson and husband, Don, Cheryl Ann Thomas; brother, Anthony Thomas; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jesika, Kevin, Megan, Kelby, Travis II; stepchildren, Jimmy and Craig Burch; and a host of other family and friends.

Robinson

Christopher Thomas Robinson, 44, of Liberty, died on August 20, 2012, at St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Chris was born on March 15, 1968, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, music, playing his guitar and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Gary Robinson, his mother and father, Brenda and John Herring, two sons; Darrell Robinson, Brett Robinson, one granddaughter, Riley Johnson and many other relatives and friends.

Adkins

Jimmy Leon Adkins, who was known locally as “Fisherman Jim”, 72, of Dayton, Texas, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in Jasper, Texas.

Jim was born on October 16, 1939 in Hartshorn, Oklahoma to parents, Theodore and Iona Keeney Adkins. Jim loved to fish and spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Eddy Wayne Adkins and Jerry Pat Adkins and one sister, Mary Ann Adkins.

He is survived by two sons; Terry Leon Adkins and wife Shelley and Jerry Ishcomer and wife Nikki, three sisters; Rose Marie Vurilko, Phyllis Gaie McDonald, Wanda Faye Adkins, four brothers; Herbert Holly Adkins, Charlie Frank Adkins, Dalton Lefate Adkins, Oscar Theodore Adkins, six grandchildren; Terry Leon Adkins Jr., Alyssa Kay Adkins, Kylee Melinda Adkins, Hannah Ishcomer, Noah Ishcomer and Garrett Ishcomer and many other relatives and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral Service.

Abshier

Elmer Lloyd Abshier age 81 died in Magnolia with his loving family by his side.

Elmer was born in Devers, Texas December 18, 1930 the son of the late Edmond Abshier and Sally Dowell Abshier. Elmer enjoyed wood working, fishing, and crabbing. Elmer was a great story teller and never met a stranger. He worked as a security guard until his retirement from Union Tank Car. He also worked as rice farmer and a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his wife Harriett Anna Abshier and numerous brothers and sisters.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Darlene Abshier, Lloyd Abshier, Ronald Abshier, Royce Abshier, sister-in-law Ruby Y. Wood, eleven grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held for Elmer 11AM Wednesday August 29, 2012 at Abshire cemetery, Devers, Texas.

Hall

Robert Lee Hall Jr, age 77, died August 24, 2012 in Houston, TX.

Robert was born on February 16, 1935 in Tulsa, OK, son of Robert Lee Hall Sr and Helen Sauerwein Hall. He loved hunting, offshore fishing and his guns. He was known to his gun dealer friends as “The Luger Man”. He was also a pilot and a tug boat operator. Robert retired as a project manager and was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and the Houston Gun Collectors Association.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister; Darlene Cumber. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of fifty-nine years; Donna Hall of Liberty, daughter; Vicki Doty of Porter, son; Jewell Hall of Sapulpa, OK, grandsons; Robert Lee Hall, John Doty, Jewell Hall Jr, Michael Doty and Robert Hall, granddaughter; Kristin Hall, five great-grandchildren and one brother; Donald Hall of Florida.

Services for Robert Lee Hall Jr will be Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 411 Milam in Liberty with burial to follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX with a rosary at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Angels in Action, care of Copperfield Church, 8350 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.

Chalfant

Florian Ruth Chalfant 90, of Hull, TX died Saturday August 25, 2012 at Magnolia Health Center of Liberty.

Service of remembrance will be held Monday August 27, 2012 at 4:00P.M at the First United Methodist church of Daisetta, with Reverend Gideon Watson and Reverend Kitty Key officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday August 26, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.at the First United Methodist Church in Daisetta.

A native of Ebernezer, Louisiana she had lived in Hull, Daisetta for most of her life where she was a Clerk for the Liberty County Tax Office. She was a Lifelong resident of Liberty County and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Daisetta. She loved to play In the bridge club where she played for about 50-60 years. She was active in birding club and charter member of the Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club. She was on the food committee for funerals at her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alton Nathan Stutes ans Cecile Kern Stutes. Husband James William Chalfant, Brother Terance E. Stutes. Mother-in-law Edna and Frank Foster Chalfant.

Survivors are Son; Frank Chalfant and wife Esther of Hull.Daughter Jimmie Shivers and husband Gregg of Hull. Grandchildren Shelli Ellerbe, Beth McBroom, Rebecca Forames, Cathey Fey, Thomas Chalfant, Sara Steelman. Great Great Grandchildren Benjamin & Christopher Ellerbe, Gabie, Natalie Forames, Brenna, Tyler, McBroom. Luke, Morgan Chalfant, Kenneth, Jacob Steelman. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Daisetta. Those honored to be Pallbearers are Thomas Chalfant, Kyle Steelman, Malcolm Nance, Steven Ellerbe, John Forames, Tim McBroom.

Vann

Ruth E. Vann, 69, of Cleveland, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Conroe Regional Hospital in Conroe.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Magnolia cemetery in Cleveland. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Ruth was born April 18, 1943 in Liberty County, to parents; Elbert E. and Ruby King Franklin, and has been a lifelong resident of the Cleveland area. She was a homemaker, member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking. She was also a member of the Golden Girls Club.

Mrs. Vann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Elmer, Glenn, Marvin, and Earl Franklin, and sister: Ruby Jean McCauley. She is survived by her husband: Joe F. Vann of Cleveland, sons: Danny L. Allen and wife Angela of Cleveland, Michael W. Allen of Cleveland, and Steven Allen and Jennifer of Cleveland, 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Darnell

Charles Darnell, 74, of Anahuac died on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at San Jacinto Methodist Rehab in Baytown. He was a loving husband, dad, pawpaw, brother and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Charles family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 24th at the funeral home.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Carl Darnell; brother, James Darnell; sister, Linda Boethel; granddaughter, Lauren Dearman. He was employed with Peninsula Marina as a Boat Captain for many years. He loved boats, coins, guns and his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife of 40 years, Becky Darnell; mother, Nina Darnell; daughters, Pam Toguchi and husband, Tim, Cindy Dearman and husband, Jason, Shanna Lyles and husband, Sam; grandchildren, Cameron, Bubba, Emily, Jhett; sisters, Bonnie Flores, Barbara Lowrence, Betty Mayes; brothers, Johnny Darnell, Carlton Darnell and a host of other family and friends.

Williamson

Nelda Louise Sneed Williamson 67 of Vidor, Texas died Saturday August 18, 2012 at her residence.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday August 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Tabernacle Ministries with Pastor Carl Vickery officiating. Interment will follow at The cemetery in Mauriceville, Texas. The family will be receiving friends also on Thursday August 23, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. also at the church. Born in Vidor, Texas she had lived in Vidor most of her life and was an homemaker and was Pentecostal by faith. Nelda was preceded in death by her father Melvin Sneed.

She is survived by her mother Essie Mae Stanley of Vidor, son Clifford Wells of Vidor, daughters Mary Durham and husband Ernest of Orange, Sarah Watson and husband Richard of Vidor, Sophia Tullos and husband Danny of Vidor. Brothers Bobby Stanley, James Stanley, Billy Stanley all of Vidor. Sisters Johnnie Sue Day of Vidor, Abby Bland of Lumberton, Kathy Martin of Vidor, Rabenell Stanley of Vidor. Grandchildren; Ashley and Chelsae Durham of Orange, Crystal Watson of Vidor. Great grandchildren Christopher Breaux, Christian, Keith, Jacob Womack all of Vidor. Pallbearers are Ernest Durham, Danny Tullos, Joe Nanez, Tommy Goss, Keith Dugas, and Johnny Martin.

Velma Doris Cross 86 of Batson, TX died Thursday August 16 2012 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Service of remembrance will be held Sunday August 19, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Tolbert Hudspeth and Reverend Lonnie Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Guedry cemetery of Batson. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday August 18, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family.

Born in Honey Island, Texas on March 28, 1926 Velma had lived in Batson, most of her life before coming from Belton, TX where she had lived a few years. She had worked for Belton I.S.D. in food sevice and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Batson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hiram Shelton Cross, parents Claude Earl Singletary and Ella Jackson Singletary. Son Claude "Buddy" Ashley, brothers Floyd Singletary, Howard Earl Singletary. Sisters Nelma Chapman, Mildred "Curly" Murphy.

Those surviving her are sons Ricky Cross and wife Vickie of Batson, Cecil Tanner of Broaddus, daughters Judy Hanks of Liberty, Carolyn Lewis and husband Tommy of Huntington. Grandchildren: twelve and twenty-three great grandchildren. Those serving as pallbearers are Mark Marshall Jr, Montana Marshall, Michael Ashley, Kelton Lewis, Wade Spears, Aaron Bear. Honorary pallbearers are Gordon and Vera Rountree. Those wishing to make memorial contributions maybe made to the charity of their choice.

Prassenos

William H. Prassenos, age 58 of Anahuac died on August 9, 2012 in Anahuac.

Prassenos was born on May 5, 1954 in Jackson, Mississippi, son of Harry and Jean Prassenos.

Services for William Prassenos will be held in Moss Point, Mississippi under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main in Dayton, TX.

Dowdy

Harlee Ann-Renee Dowdy, 17 months of Dayton, died on August 14, 2012 in Dayton, TX.

Harlee was born in Baytown, TX on March 4, 2011, daughter of Christopher Dowdy and Trina Garcia. She was a bright and precious child and was loved by all of her family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main in Dayton at 6pm. Visitation will be held from 5pm – 7pm that same day.

Harlee was preceded in death by her great grandparents; Morris Dowdy and Cynthia Whalen. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her parents, Trina Garcia and her fiancé Joe Carmel and Christopher Dowdy and his fiancée Amber Jeane, sister; Havyn Dowdy of Baytown, paternal grandparents; Becky and Chris Thibodeaux of Dayton, Darrell and Becky Dowdy of Dayton, maternal grandparents; Tina and Sabino Valenzulea of Houston, Dennis Yohey of Ohio, God Parents; Christy Burge and Sherri Morris and numerous aunts and uncles.
