Whitener

Staci Leigh Whitener, 24, of Baytown, died at her residence on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Interment will be at a later date. A gathering of Staci's family and friends will be from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Staci was born in Houston. She attended Barbers Hill ISD.

Staci is survived by her parents, David and Julie Walker Whitener; daughter, Callysta Jade Bourque; son, Cohen David Bolton; uncles, Tim Walker, Dan Walker and their families; cousins, Karry and Neil Hess, Arlene and Randy Stroud, Tina and Bruce Flowers and their family; and a host of other family and friends.

Gilbert

Margaret Evelene Gilbert, age 87, died May 1, 2012 in Lumberton, TX.

Margaret was born in McKinney, Texas October 15, 1924 the daughter of the late Josh Henry Higgs and Minnie Bookout Higgs. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. A homemaker for the majority of her life she worked for a short time at Texas Instruments.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Earl Gilbert and her brothers J.V. Higgs and Ralph Higgs.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son Mitchell Coleman and wife Judy of Hardin, daughter Susan Bounds and husband Bo of Mauriceville, sister Rayce Hokes of New Boston, brother Dewie Higgs and wife Ruby, sister Faye Landgraf, brother J.H. Higgs and wife Jo, sister Kathlene McRae husband Orvis, and a sister Moja Raffaelli husband Joe all of Texarkana and a dear friend Sid Kinsey. In addition she leaves behind five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday May 3, 2012 from 5-8PM at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis Liberty, Texas. A graveside service will be held 10AM Friday at Cooke Memorial cemetery.

Marcontell

Esther Cordelia Barneycastle Marcontell, 94, of Thicket, died Monday April 30, 2012 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

A service of Celebration will be held Thursday May 3, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the West End Baptist Church of Saratoga, with Reverend Bill Campbell, and Reverend Bruce Crosby officiating; interment will follow at Hall cemetery in Thicket.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 5:00P.M until 9:00 P.M. also at the church.

Pallbearers are Homer Loftin, Herbert Shoats, Douglas Hughes, Darren Janczak, Harry Brown, Robert LaFrance, Claude Moore. Honorary pallbearer is Robert Graham.

A native and lifelong resident of Thicket she was a homemaker and a member of West End Baptist church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Alfred Marcontell, son, Larry Eugene Marcontell, sister, Alice Carroll Novie Youngman, brother Earl Barneycastle and Mack Barneycastle. Survivors are son, Curtis Harold Marcontell of Thicket; daughter, Rozelle Marcontell Wells of Thicket; brother, Malcolm Louie Barneycastle and wife Melinda of Houston; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren.

Swain

Erma “Joyce” Swain, 69, of Devers, died Sunday, April 29, 2012.

She was born August 1, 1942 to her parents Julian and Mittie Windham in Kilgore, TX. Then Her family moved to Daisetta while she was in high school. She loved going to the beach. She loved her many dogs. She was a great dancer. She enjoyed spending her time with her family and Mr. Wilson, she especially enjoyed spending her time with her granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Mittie Windham.

She is survived by her son, Jerry LeNormand and wife Kim of Batson; fiancé, Jerry Wilson; sisters, Bettie Rohdes of Kilgore, Nelda Barton and husband Fred of Hardin, Helen Windham of Hull, granddaughter, Erica LeNormand of Batson and great grandson, Caden Scott of Woodville.

Her family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A service of Remembrance is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday May 3, 2012 at Faith and Family Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Alexander, Francis McMillen, Jr., Tim McMillen, Scooter Taylor, Joel Wilson and BJ Quinn. Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Quinn and Billy Alexander.

Bal

Martinus “Martin” Leendert Bal, 67, of Point Blank, died Thursday, April 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Coldspring with burial following at the Center Hill cemetery in Point Blank. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, prior to services. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Coldspring.

Martin was born November 29, 1944 in the Netherlands, to parents; Pieter M. and Johanna C. Pronk Bal, immigrated from the Netherlands in June of 1981, and recently obtained his US citizenship. He was a retired chemist and enjoyed travel, the outdoors, boating, and tech gadgets.

Mr. Bal was preceded in death by his father: Pieter Minukus Bal, mother: Johanna Cornelia Pronk Bal, and brother: Pieter Bal, Jr. He is survived by his wife: Joan Bal, son: Roland Bal and wife Angela, daughters: Lori Bass and husband Kevin, Susanne Balyemez and husband Mustafa, Dawn Thompson and husband Michael, and Robin Cairl and husband Ian, brother: Willem Bal, sisters: Maria “Rietje” Vink, grandchildren: Chad, William, John, Meghan, Collin, Jarah, Katelyn, Ashley, Zachary, Heather, Holly, Hannah, Emma, Sara, and Taylor, great-grandchild: Ryann, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Davis

Patsy Ann Brown Davis, 85, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 in Dayton.

She was born November 27, 1926, in Beaumont, to her late parents, Raymond Earl Brown and Lillian Margaret “Patty” Allen Brown.

She lived most of her life in Dayton where she was a member of the first United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendant for many years as well as serving on numerous church boards and committees.

Patsy was a charter member of the Lakata Club and a member of the Stitch and Chatter Club, Priscilla Club, Woman’s Club and various other boards and organizations in Dayton and Liberty County.

Mrs. Davis graduated from Dayton High School in 1943 and University of Texas, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1946. She began her teaching career in Dayton in 1946, took a leave in 1950 to raise her family and returned to the classroom in 1968 until her retirement in 1986. She retired with a total of 23 years of service and most of her tenure was spent as a 7th grade math teacher at Woodrow Wilson Junior High. In 2002, Patsy was chosen for the Dayton ISD Wall of Fame to honor her service to the Dayton School District.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Douglass Rice Davis II, who she married on June 16, 1950.

Survivors include her children, Douglass Davis of Dayton, Skeeter Davis and his wife Carolyn of Nacogdoches, Margaret Hairston and her husband Jay of League City and Susan Oubre and her husband Todd of Dayton; grandchildren, Kelli Davis, Ric Davis and his wife Michele, Dixie Hairston, Ryan Davis, Davis Hairston, Scott Davis and Matthew Oubre; great-grandchildren, Rice Davis and Jack Davis and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Mary Ann Jones, Mrs. Davis’ longtime caregiver, and all of the other wonderful women who helped with her care over the years.

Pallbearers will be Scott Sipes, Ric Davis, Davis Hairston, Scott Davis and Matthew Oubre. The sixth casket handle will be left un-manned in honor of her grandson, Ryan Davis, who cannot serve as pallbearer. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Bobby Harris, Joe Harris, Boyd Arnold, Ken Speck, Carl Pickett and Edward Pickett.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2012 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton with Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Burial will be at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton.

Bellard

Alijah Jace Bellard, infant son of Summer Bellard and Gary Patterson Jr, died on April 26, 2012 in Houston, TX.

Alijah was born on March 20, 2012 in Cleveland, TX, son of Summer Bellard and Gary Patterson Jr.

Alijah was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Bellard, great grandparents; L.C. and Mary McBride, Albert and Lucille Bellard, two great uncles and numerous cousins and other relatives. Alijah leaves behind to cherish his memory his parents, brother; Amaree Patterson, sisters; Alayiah, Tiana and Amya Patterson, maternal grandmother; Teresa Bellard, paternal grandparents; Gary Patterson Sr and Delilah Guidry and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives.

Graveside services for Alijah Jace Bellard will be Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 11am at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic cemetery.

Matthews

James David Matthews "Jimmie" of Anahuac, went to be with our Lord on April 27, 2012 at the Arboretum in Winnie.

Jimmie was born in Arp, Texas on May 28, 1932. He was a life-long resident of Anahuac, Texas and graduate of Anahuac High School. He attended Texas A&M University and Lamar University.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Anahuac. Interment will be in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Jimmie's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 30, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.M. and Ollie Belle Matthews, and is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Nelson Matthews, daughter Becky Evans and husband David, Patti Nauman and husband Lance, all of Anahuac; grandchildren Nicki Simpson and husband Roddy of Huntington, Texas, Meagan Evans of Tatum, Texas, Austin and Madelyne Nauman of Anahuac; Aunt Priscilla Gougler of College Station, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a large family of and a host of friends.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Anahuac, Past Master of Anahuac Lodge #995, Past Patron of Anahuac O.E.S. #649, member of the Anahuac ISD School Board and loyal supporter of the Anahuac schools.

He loved God, his family and his country. He was a rice farmer before retirement, part owner of E & M Greenhouses, Inc. and owner of Bayside Imports. He was known for his love of hunting ducks, geese and deer along with fishing on the Trinity River. He enjoyed frying fish for family, church and school gatherings.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to the Anahuac ISD Foundation at P.O. Box 638, Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Fuson

Maxine Haskins Fuson of Anahuac, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Maxine's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac.

Maxine was born July 2, 1928, in Tyler, Texas, to William Hayward and Addie Isabel Cagle Haskins. She graduated from Tyler High School and shortly thereafter met her future husband, Chuck Fuson, at a skating rink in Arp, Texas. Maxine and Chuck married on January 1, 1947, and "skated" happily together for 65 years. Maxine was the Postmaster in Hankamer, Texas, for 26 years before retiring in 1988. She spent the remaining years of her life continuing her lifelong hobby of sewing, as well as traveling with her husband and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren!

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, Danny Fuson.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Chuck, of Anahuac; sister, Melba Erck and husband, Charles of Midland; sister, JoAnn Snyder and husband, Roger of Ohio; brother, Bill Haskins and wife, Judy of Ohio; son, Larry Fuson and wife, Kathleen of Plano; daughter, Kathy Hurt of Michigan; son, Jimmy Fuson and wife, Robin of Colorado; daughter, Holly Crocker and husband, Craig of Katy; daughter, Nancy Whitley and husband, Worth of Colorado; fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jared Fuson, Josh Fuson, Judge Fuson, Taylor Fuson, Casey Crocker, Michael Crocker, and Travis Whitley.

Honorary Pallbearers are John Fuson, Jake Fuson, and Adam Hurt.

Halfin

Jack Jarvis Halfin (10/2/1925 - 4/23/2012) served his country, his family, and his community during his 86 year long life.

He was a Navy Medic in stationed in Okinawa during WWII where he was a recipient of a Bronze Star. In 1947 he married , Lena B. Sonnier, his wife of nearly 65. They moved to Liberty, Texas in 1950 where Jack was a partner in Jack’s Refrigeration for nearly 40 years and was a lifetime member of the VFW where he served as a Post and District Commander and was awarded recognition as a All-State Post Commander. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. In 2007, Jack and Lena moved to Magnolia, TX to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. Jack was an avid bowler and was in a bowling league up until his passing.

Not one who could sit around idle Jack was known as a hard worker and always had projects in progress. He enjoyed humor and loved telling jokes. He had a great sense of fairness and honesty. He loved his family, his country, and is now at home with the Lord whom he loved.

He is preceded in death by his father Godcheaux Stapp Halfin, his mother Alma Carlquist Halfin, and his sister Doris Norman all of Victoria, TX. He is survived by his wife Lena Halfin of Magnolia, TX., his brother George S. Halfin and wife Tres of Anahuac, TX. and his children Barry L. Halfin and wife Jan of Houston, TX, and Tim J. Halfin and wife Lynne of Magnolia, TX., grandchildren Layne Halfin, Zach Halfin, Tony Halfin, Michael Halfin, Sarah Halfin, and great-grand son Jacob Halfin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Magnolia, Texas. Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Guedry

Nancy Lynne Guedry, 64, of Houston, TX, died Wednesday April 18, 2012 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont.

A native of Beaumont, she had lived in Houston, for most of her life and was retired as a Legal Secretary for Vincent & Elkins Law Firm in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Smith Guedry and Lillie Mae Johnson. Survivors are her brothers George Calvin Guedry and wife Bobbie of Lumberton, Mike Guedry and wife Becky of Lumberton, sister Brenda Ruth Dosser of Russellville Arkansas. Nieces are Sherri Lynne Dosser Streety, Shawn Marie Guedry Orr, Kally Jolene Guedry Brown. Nephews John Warner Guedry, David Parker Dosser, John Dustin Guedry, Joseph Thomas Guedry and James Cody Guedry. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday April 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the graveside at Guedry cemetery in Batson, with Reverend John Guedry and Reverend David Dosser officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday April 20, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Faith & Family Chapel. Pallbearers are Joseph Guedry, Dustin Guedry, Cody Guedry, Garrett Guedry, Kaden Brown, Koltin Brown. Honorary Pallbearers are Ryan & Aaron Dosser, Zachary Streety.
