Scruggs

Tristin Scruggs, 18, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his home in Dayton. He was a loving son, grandson, cousin and friend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 P.M. Friday, April 20, 2012 at St. Martha Catholic Church 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, TX 77365 Rev. Msgr. Chester L. Borski S.T.L. celebrant. A Rite of Committal will be in Bandera where he will be laid to rest next to his grandmother. Visitations will be from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday and 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Friday at the church.

Tristin attended Kingwood High School where he lettered in Track and Hurdles. He was the captain of the Yell Squad, loved Lacrosse, riding dirt bikes, four wheeling and music. Tristian played the violin, guitar and piano. Tristin also loved to go camping.

Tristin is survived by his father, Michael Scruugs; mother, Suzy Goad; grandmother, Reva Scruggs; and a host of other family and friends.

Rabata

Barbara A. Denby Rabata, 72, of Dayton, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and rosary services at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Barbara was born October 14, 1939 I Galveston, to parents; Orvil L. and Betty Cline Denby, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Dayton for the past 38 years. She was a graduate of the galena Park High School class of 1957, a retired secretary for Borden Milk after 12 years of employment, and a member and former church secretary of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. She also enjoyed playing Bunco and tending her flowers.

Mrs. Rabata was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 47 years: Anthony “Tony” Rabata of Dayton, brother: Donny “Don” Denby of Tomball, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dodd

Clinton Edward Dodd II, age 55, of Dayton, Texas, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

He was born January 06, 1957 in Conroe, Texas.

Survivors include his loving wife Caren Dodd; mother Mary Francis Anglin; father Clinton E. Dodd; daughter Rachel Dodd; sons Ryan Dodd and wife Brittany, Garrett Dodd; sister Kelly Jenkel Axton and husband Rick; grandchildren NOT YET, BUT SOON, NOT REAL SOON - BUT SOON; nephews Justin Dillard, Coleman Jenkel and Matthew Kerby; niece Hannan Jenkel; lifelong friends Dennis Washburn and Jim Long.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April, 18, 2012, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Bob White will preside over funeral services being held Thursday, April 19, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment at Cleveland Memorial cemetery.

Richardson

Edgar Lee Richardson, age 72, of Conroe, Texas, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his residence.

He was born January 25, 1940 in Liberty County, Texas to parents Walter Matthew Richardson Sr. and Ruth Marie (Losack) Richardson who preceded him in death along with his loving wife Eva Belle Richardson; son James Edward Richardson; brother Walter Richardson Sr. and wife, Ruth.

Survivors include his son Amos Ray Richardson and wife Louise; brother Walter M. Richardson Jr. and wife Kathy; sisters Lorene Burks, Joyce Lilly and husband Bill, Julie (Judy) Robinson and husband Dave; grandchild Brandon Lee Richardson; great-grandchildren Brianna LaNelle Richardson, Aiden Lee Richardson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other cherished family members and treasured friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Monty Odom will preside over funeral services being held Wednesday, April 18, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at Montague cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Carter

Robert Aubrey Carter, age 89, of Cleveland, Texas, died, Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his residence.

He was born January 6, 1923 in Liberty County, Texas to parents Virgil and Dora (Wright) Carter who preceded him in death along with his son Clyde Sweet; brother Wright Carter; sisters Edith Kirkham, Mary Alice Ray and Edna Sue Gassiott.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Clyta Jean Carter; sons Floyd Carter and wife Kathy, Bobby Carter and Charles Sweet; daughter Deborah Cunningham and husband Robert; brother Keith Carter and wife Chita; grandchildren Kenny Carter, Melissa Carter, Bethany Carter, Michael Carter, Tonny Carter, Troy Carter, Trey Sweet, Jake Sweet, Ben Sweet; great-grandchildren Lindsay Carter, Avery Haynes, Addi Haynes, Benny Sweet IV, and Bella Jean Sweet; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other cherished family membes and faithful friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Myron Stewart will preside over graveside services being held Wednesday, April 18, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.

Sliva

Dayton - Nada Grace Sliva, 63, of Dayton, died April 7, 2012 at her home in Dayton.

She was born on June 28, 1948 in Attleboro, MA the Daughter of the late Adna H. Mulliken and the late Grace H. Fuller.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Nada was a very caring woman who loved spending time with her family and especially loved her grandchildren even if “some of them have for legs”.

She was a great outdoor enthusiast and would spend her free time Gardening and enjoying the nature she lived with.

She liked to listen to the birds sing and watch the bunnies play in her yard she wanted to adopt a puppy or a dog to spend her days with.

While she lived in Maine she enjoyed the Maine coast, Fort Williams State park, Moosehead and Sebago lake ME and the day trips taken with family and friends to the sites of New Hampshire hiking and picnicking in the White Mountains among many other special places. Nada was always looking for the next adventure or (“moose-hunt” as she liked to call them) to be had. But more than anything she loved her family and the friends that were just the same as family in her eyes. She lived for her family and loved them more than words.

Nada is survived by her eldest Daughter Maryrose Alvarado and her son in law Michael Therrien of Buxton, ME, her youngest Daughter Alicia Paschal and husband of Dayton, TX, her grandchildren Nathan, Patrick and Cleo also of Dayton TX, a Brother Martin Fuller of Weymouth, MA and two very special friends who were just like a brother and a sister to her for many years Judy Williams and Maurice Baron JR. both of TX who are part of her family. She is predeceased by both her parents Adna H. Mulliken and Grace H. Fuller as well as a sister Shelia of AZ. Nada will be missed by those who knew her and remembered by them for the great spirit she had and the loving way she could touch your heart, and they hope she is off having the best “MOOSEHUNT” ever.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Local arrangements were under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Goldman

Cathy Renee (McClure) Goldman, age 46, of Shepherd, Texas, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. (prior to service) at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Rev. James Holt will preside over funeral services being held Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 3:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment following at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland, Texas.

Cathy was born April 16, 1965 in Eugene, Oregon to parents James Revis McClure and Charlene Renee McClure. She was a homemaker and enjoyed decorating, shopping, and spending time on the phone with family and friends. Cathy’s love for her family was a deep and abiding one; and they loved her the same. She was a loving daughter, devoted wife, a tireless mother, grandmother, and steadfast friend. She will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

He is preceded in death by her precious granddaughter Abigail Marie Goldman. She will be remembered loving by her loving husband Donald Goldman; parents Revis and Charlene McClure; sons Dustin Goldman, Anthony Goldman; daughters Nicole Barrackman and husband Daniel, Cayla Fernandez and husband Jesse; brothers Allan McClure and wife Darla, Gary McClure and wife Carolyn; grandchildren Jesse, Hailee, Caylee, Danielle, and Kaitlin; nephews Michael, Levi, Spencer, David, and Drayton; nieces Brittany, Savanna and Reanna; numerous other cherished family members and faithful friends.

McNeely

Bessie Lee Arrant McNeely, 73, of Brookeland, previously of Arlington, died Friday April 13, 2012.

She was the office manager for Odom Interest. She was a member of Brookeland United Pentecostal Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Virginia Arrant.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles L. McNeely, Sr. of Brookeland; children, Dwayne Riley and wife Shirley of Blum, TX, Charles L. McNeely, Jr. and wife Silvia of Allen, OK, Jared Roberts of Brookeland, Jennie Scalfano and husband Tom of Orange, Tammy Roberts of Fort Worth, and Darla Bethel and husband David of Mineola; brothers, Earl Arrant of Orange, Henry Brown of Silsbee; sisters, Vennie Jones of Beaumont, Doris Shaver of Woodville, Sara Stark of Newton, Tabitha Stark of Vidor, Bonnie Self of Winnie, and Carla Cotty of Bon Weir; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday April 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Brookland United Pentecostal Church, officiated by Reverend Donald Barber, Reverend David Bethel, and Reverend Charles McNeely, Jr. Burial will follow at Lewis Chapel cemetery in Bleakwood, TX.

Arrangements are under the direction of Faith and Family Funeral Services, 40847 HWY 105 East, Batson, TX, 77519 (936) 262-2100 or (936) 336-2222.

Barrow

Etta Belle Stengler Barrow, of Hankamer went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Cedar Bayou Nursing Home in Baytown.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M.. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Etta's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the funeral home.

Etta was born August 11, 1920 in Hankamer to William Albritton and Mina Maud Hankamer. She graduated from Hankamer High School in 1937 and in the same year married , Wilborn Aaron Stengler in September. After Wilborn's death in 1968, she married Melvin Barrow in March 1975.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Barrow, daughter, Ronda Guyewski, grandson, Kevin Guyewski and granddaughter, Marlayna Johnson.

Etta is survived by her daughter, Jeri Smith and husband, Robert of Arlington, Texas; son, Wayne Stengler and wife, Carolyn of Greer, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Pallbearers will be Steve Guyewski, Danny Thomas, Leroy Edmonds, Heath Stengler, Brandon Thomas, Ronny Smith, Derrek Edmonds, Roger Smith, and Christopher Thomas.

Gossett

James Paul Gossett of Huffman, Texas died on April 11th, 2012.

He is preceded in death by his four sisters Imogene Pemberton, Joyce Berry, Myrtle McIntire and Gladys Wheeler. Step-daughter and son-in-law Charles and Cecelia Reddick, and son-in-law Karl Knight.

James was born May 18, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. After retiring Waukesha Pierce Industries, he was active in the volunteer work with the Humble Senior Activity Center, May Community Center in Huffman, Texas, RSVP, Humble 55+ and Deerbrook Chapter of AARP. . He was a member of Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas.

James had a vibrant personality and never met a stranger. He was always anxious to freeheartedly help in any situation. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

James is survived by his loving wife, Dannie of Huffman, Texas, daughter Patricia Humphries and husband Winston of Fort Worth, Texas. Step-daughters Harlana Knight of Pasadena, Texas and Sabrina Moore of Leander, Texas. One sister, Dorothy Wartell of Fort Worth, Texas. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Gossett will be held at 2pm on April 21st, 2012 at Grace Community Baptist Church, 8073 Fm 1960, (936) 258-4547, in Dayton, Texas with Pastor Wayne Harden officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations be made to the church in his name.

Cone

Wendell “Scott” Cone, 50, of Dayton, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Conroe.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with visitation with family and friends following services.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel in Ft. Worth.

Scott was born February 22, 1962 in Ft. Worth, to parents; Joe and Ann Sewell Cone, a former resident of Lake Worth, and has resided in Dayton for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of the Lake Worth High School class of 1980, a former operator and emergency response team member of DOW Chemical of LaPorte, and attended the First Baptist Church of Dayton. He also enjoyed working out, hunting, and cooking.

Mr. Cone was preceded in death by his father: Joe Cone. He is survived by his son: Brent Cone and wife Brittany of Dayton, daughter: Madison Cone of Dayton, granddaughter on the way: Audrey Cone, mother: Ann Sewell Cone of Lake Worth, brothers: Steve Cone of Argyle, Stan Cone of Magnolia, and Shawn Cone of Ft. Worth, mother of his children: Celida Cone of Dayton, his special pet: Champ, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Brantley

Laveda Mae Bowen Brantley, 77, of Dayton, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with burial following at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Laveda was born February 7, 1935 in Dyess, AR, to parents; Walter M. and Veo Cadle Bowen, a former resident of Liberty and has resided in Dayton for the past 35 years. She was a retired cashier for Wal-Mart of Liberty after 18 years of employment, a former employee of the Houston Chronicle, Grocer’s Supply, and Sammy’s Steakhouse, member and participant at the Dayton Senior Citizen’s Center, and enjoyed ceramics, aquariums, birds, and especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Brantley was preceded in death by her parents, father of her children: Charles R. Brantley, son: Donald Lee Brantley, husband: Bobbie Rae Conway, and brothers: Edward and Leroy Bowen. She is survived by her daughter: Ladonna Spurgeon and husband Buster, Jr. of Dayton, son: Dale Brantley and wife Candy of Liberty, sister: Racheal Bowen of Dayton, brother: Leon Bowen of Dayton, grandchildren: Leslie Rolirad, Jana Bowser, Tara Davis, Adrian Meche, and Sabrina Whitehead, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Killen

Robert Earl Killen, 51, of Dayton, died April 12, 2012 in Houston after an extended illness.

He was born September 5, 1960 in North Bend, Oregon to parents Henry Walton Killen and Barbara Briggs Killen. Robert had lived in the Dayton area for the past ten years after moving from Alabama.

Mr. Killen is survived by daughter: Angela Hasenbein and husband Timothy of Haleyville, Alabama; son: Daniel Killen and wife Stephanie of Haleyville, Alabama; grandchildren: William Elkins and Reagan Hasenbein of Alabama; father: Henry Killen and wife Rita of Dayton and mother: Barbara Briggs of California.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home and no services are scheduled at this time.
